[Bug 1844601] Re: right clicking on background - menu appears often well away from pointer
I just logged out of my primary desktop (dell [optiplex] 960 (c2q-q9400, 8gb, amd/ati cedar radeon hd 5000/6000/7350/8350) of my LXQt desktop changed to login via GNOME/Ubuntu On the installed & updated GNOME 19.10 system i get the same action when I right-click the background. If I move pointer to middle of top- display and right-click, the menu opens bottom-left quarter of lower display?? not where I'm looking or expect the menu to appear. I'll change this to confirmed - it's occurred on 3 boxes; 2 boxes using daily ISO & an installed system on third box. All three have two displays, and unusual display setups (this d780 has almost identical display setup to 8200; using two displays just to right of 8200's displays). [Bug 1844601] Re: right clicking on background - menu appears often well away from pointer
** Description changed: In the attached picture - My mouse-pointer was on my 'top' display above positioned above 'videos' window (which has Little.Sisters MP3 on it), but menu appears on bottom display below terminal. + QA-test on hp 8200 elite sff (i5-2400, 8gb, nvidia quadro 600) -- Expected behavior I can click the background on my screens, and I expect the menu to appear very close to where my pointer is -- Actual behavior As I write this, if I move the mouse-pointer to the right of this firefox window & right-click background, the menu appears to nearer the left of this firefox window? If I move pointer to left of this firefox window, it appears in the same position as it did when to the right; in neither occasion is it near my pointer & thus is not readily visible as the menu color is very similar to the firefox background that sort of hides it. It maybe because I've adjusted my displays since I started this QA-test to match my setup, but in this lab-like setup my displays are vertically placed (one above the other) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 19.10 Package: gnome-shell 3.34.0-1ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.3.0-10.11-generic 5.3.0-rc8 Uname: Linux 5.3.0-10-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu7 Architecture: amd64 CasperVersion: 1.415 CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Thu Sep 19 01:39:59 2019 DisplayManager: gdm3 GsettingsChanges: b'org.gnome.desktop.app-folders' b'folder-children' b"['Utilities', 'Sundry', 'YaST']" b'org.gnome.desktop.input-sources' b'sources' b"[('xkb', 'us')]" b'org.gnome.desktop.interface' b'gtk-im-module' b"'gtk-im-context-simple'" b'org.gnome.desktop.notifications' b'application-children' b"['apport-gtk']" LiveMediaBuild: Ubuntu 19.10 "Eoan Ermine" - Alpha amd64 (20190917) ProcEnviron: TERM=xterm-256color PATH=(custom, no user) XDG_RUNTIME_DIR= LANG=C.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash RelatedPackageVersions: mutter-common 3.34.0-2ubuntu1 SourcePackage: gnome-shell UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1844601 Title: right clicking on background - menu appears often well away from pointer To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1844601/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1767299] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 Installer creates swap partition too small
For reasons stated further above I like to propose changing the status of this bug to critical. I eventually managed to setup a swap file and enable hibernation. The following steps are copy pasted together from various different websites. Here are the changes I have made: First find out how large your swap file should be. There are several recommendation tables you can find on Google. Adjust the needed size of the swap file below to your needs. Setup swap file: sudo swapoff -a# Turn off all swap space. sudo rm /swapfile # Delete current swap file. sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/swapfile bs=1M count=16384 # Make a new 16GB swap file. (Adjust to your needs) sudo chown root:root /swapfile # Set owner to root, group root sudo chmod 0600 /swapfile # Set permission to root sudo mkswap /swapfile # Convert file to swap format sudo swapon /swapfile # Enable Enable to swap file on boot. Add the following line to /etc/fstab using your favorite editor: /swapfile noneswapsw 0 0 Enable hibernation: sudo apt install uswsusp sudo apt install hibernate Test if hibernation works with this command: sudo hibernate If everything looks good continue by changing the hibernation engine to use the hibernate command. Edit hibernation service: sudo systemctl edit systemd-hibernate.service Paste the following code: [Service] ExecStart= ExecStartPre=-/bin/run-parts -v -a pre /usr/lib/systemd/system-sleep ExecStart=/usr/sbin/s2disk ExecStartPost=-/bin/run-parts -v --reverse -a post /usr/lib/systemd/system-sleep Next update systemd: sudo systemctl daemon-reload Now you should be able to hibernate with the default system command: sudo systemctl hibernate Enable hibernation in the UI by following this guide: http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2018/05/add-hibernate-option-ubuntu-18-04/ -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1767299 Title: Ubuntu 18.04 Installer creates swap partition too small To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/partman-auto/+bug/1767299/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Under Python 3 msgpack returns the serialized input as a byte string. Similar to other msgpack'd values in the payload, we need to explicitly decode it to a string value. This is specifically more of an issue under Python 3; however the decode operation is safe back to Python 2 so there is no need to limit the decode codepath to just Python 3. [Bug 1834967] Re: Activities overview doesn't fit the whole window in when shrinking
Do you think the importance of this problem is just low? It affects a very central part of the desktop in a way that is not only ugly but also hinders usability. Hopefully it's not an upstream issue and will be auto-magically fixed by an update. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1834967 Title: Activities overview doesn't fit the whole window in when shrinking To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1834967/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1844601] [NEW] right clicking on background - menu appears often well away from pointer
Public bug reported: In the attached picture - My mouse-pointer was on my 'top' display above positioned above 'videos' window (which has Little.Sisters MP3 on it), but menu appears on bottom display below terminal. -- Expected behavior I can click the background on my screens, and I expect the menu to appear very close to where my pointer is -- Actual behavior As I write this, if I move the mouse-pointer to the right of this firefox window & right-click background, the menu appears to nearer the left of this firefox window? If I move pointer to left of this firefox window, it appears in the same position as it did when to the right; in neither occasion is it near my pointer & thus is not readily visible as the menu color is very similar to the firefox background that sort of hides it. It maybe because I've adjusted my displays since I started this QA-test to match my setup, but in this lab-like setup my displays are vertically placed (one above the other) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 19.10 Package: gnome-shell 3.34.0-1ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.3.0-10.11-generic 5.3.0-rc8 Uname: Linux 5.3.0-10-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu7 Architecture: amd64 CasperVersion: 1.415 CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Thu Sep 19 01:39:59 2019 DisplayManager: gdm3 GsettingsChanges: b'org.gnome.desktop.app-folders' b'folder-children' b"['Utilities', 'Sundry', 'YaST']" b'org.gnome.desktop.input-sources' b'sources' b"[('xkb', 'us')]" b'org.gnome.desktop.interface' b'gtk-im-module' b"'gtk-im-context-simple'" b'org.gnome.desktop.notifications' b'application-children' b"['apport-gtk']" LiveMediaBuild: Ubuntu 19.10 "Eoan Ermine" - Alpha amd64 (20190917) ProcEnviron: TERM=xterm-256color PATH=(custom, no user) XDG_RUNTIME_DIR= LANG=C.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash RelatedPackageVersions: mutter-common 3.34.0-2ubuntu1 SourcePackage: gnome-shell UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug eoan iso-testing ** Attachment added: "picture of desktop -- my pointer is on top display above the videos window, but menu appears on bottom display below terminal" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1844601/+attachment/5289648/+files/Screenshot%20from%202019-09-19%2001-34-18.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1844601 Title: right clicking on background - menu appears often well away from pointer To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1844601/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1844594] [NEW] rhythmbox crashed with ImportError: could not import gobject (version mismatch, 3.34.0 is required, found 3.33.1)
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 19.10 daily test (QA 'live') I was opening random apps; one of which was rhythmbox - which after closing a crash window appeared. I clicked send and it closed (nothing further). On examination there was a .crash in /var/crash/ so I `ubuntu-bug`'d that report. Thus this. I wanted to add files from the partition I'd mounted earlier in `files` (nautilus), however I couldn't find it in rhythmbox window (not my usual music player) so I just closed app. It was after this that I had the error pop-up; so really I'd done nothing except try and navigate to my mounted hdd within rhythmbox only. [Bug 1844588] [NEW] Wifi connection issue upon reboot most times.
Public bug reported: Laptop is Dell E4300 After reboot applet for Wi-Fi displays as connected but 80% of the times it is not. I have to switch of through drop downs then reconnect after about 10 seconds. Sometimes I try hardware switch off for about 10 seconds then on but I find it more reliable to try to get connected by software switch methods. Sometimes I may have to attempt up to about 3 times even with software switch method. I first noticed issue with 18.xx LTS. Worked perfect for a long time but I guess an update caused issue. Thanks for looking at this. So, do I understand correctly, that the patch is ok on Mesa-7.8.x ? If this is so, then everyone now using KDE-4.5.x (and presumably Mesa-7.8.x), can use it. [Bug 1844585] [NEW] Surface Pro 1 - System can't install the grub loader and provides no option to examine the file system nor offers a remedy. Just stops.
Public bug reported: Installation proceeds as expected, prior to the grub installaiton. Simply states that it cannot install the loader and that the system will not be able to boot without it. (Of course) It doesn't offer any steps to possibly resolve or diagnose the issue. It simply requests to submit a bug, then falls on it's face and exits. This is independent of the linux version, USB formatting. I've tried many with the same results. Perhaps it's protected partition of sorts. Based on experience, the system will now boot to grub only and the manual commands to boot it will result in a stop at (initramfs) I hope this helps, and of course any advice is welcome. I'm sure that I'm not the only person who has had to contend with this. [Bug 1844580] Re: Screen tearing with AMD open source drivers and a high refresh rate monitor
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected eoan ** Description changed: i have the following issue: If i use a monitor with a higher refresh rate then 60 then i will get nasty screen tearing and flickering. I have a monitor with 75 hz ,a amd rx 480 gpu with open source video drivers. The work-around the issue that i found is to force the gpu power state to high with the command echo high > /sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_dpm_force_performance_level In my opinion this should be a High importance because it will offer a pour experience when for every user that it's using open source drivers and a high refresh monitor Tested on Ubuntu and Ubuntu Mate 18.04.x ,19.04 and 19.10 daily. + --- + ProblemType: Bug + ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu7 + Architecture: amd64 + AudioDevicesInUse: + USERPID ACCESS COMMAND + /dev/snd/controlC1: apolihron 1196 F pulseaudio + /dev/snd/controlC0: apolihron 1196 F pulseaudio + CurrentDesktop: MATE + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 19.10 + InstallationDate: Installed on 2019-08-27 (22 days ago) + InstallationMedia: Ubuntu-MATE 19.10 "Eoan Ermine" - Alpha amd64 (20190827) + IwConfig: + lono wireless extensions. + + enp31s0 no wireless extensions. + MachineType: To Be Filled By O.E.M.
