[Bug 1369231] Re: do-release-upgrade in localized environment does not accept english input

2020-05-01 Thread Andrey Yashkin
I can still reproduce it during the update from 19.10 to 20.04. I made a
simple fix for a case when the locale uses non latin alphabet.

[Bug 1875771] Re: ipmi_locate segfault on Focal

2020-05-01 Thread Jeff Lane
Hi Paride...

I did some additional testing and so far I have started seeing a
pattern. The failing systems (the segfaulting ones) are all Dells with
iDRAC6 (they're older Dells, 11G). I have one newer Dell system and it
did not segfault. I also ran on HP, Supermicro, Quanta and Lenovo
systems without issue. It seems limited to the older Dells with iDRAC6.

These are systems in my test lab, so I'm happy to run commands and such
if it helps, just let me know if there's anything you may need from me.
I wish ipmi-locate had some debug output... I'd have provided that if
so.

[Bug 1875916] Re: upgrading to 4.15.0-99-generic breaks the sound and the trackpad

2020-05-01 Thread Julien Gascon-Samson
I also have this bug, Dell Latitude 7390, kernel upgraded to 4.15.0-99-generic
about 2 days ago, couldn't get the sound (internal laptop speakers and audio
jack) to work. However, HDMI sound through external monitors worked.
I'd be happy to run some diagnosis with the old & new kernels if that'd be
helpful.

[Bug 1869819] Re: [SRU] System can't detect external headset in the codec of Conexant

2020-05-01 Thread hugh chao
For what I observed (both focal and bionic), I'm not sure (and I think
it's not) it's a regression, due the the bug it's already there before
this patch. And I tried one hp dm, one hp sff, one hp laptop and one
dell laptop, only can be reproduced in Dell laptop.

For what I observed:

[[[1:11.1-1ubuntu7.5]]]
Before I plugged headset there is only one device shown on input device, which
is

1. Internal Microphone - Built-in Audio

After I plugged headset into the jack, dialog shown up, I choice
"headset", then three input device shown up, which are:

1. Headset Microphone - Built-in Audio
2. Internal Microphone - Built-in Audio
3. Microphone - Built-in Audio

[[[1:11.1-1ubuntu7.6]]]
Before I plugged headset there are two devices shown on input device, which are

1. Headset Microphone - Built-in Audio
2. Internal Microphone - Built-in Audio

After I plugged headset into the jack, dialog shown up, I choice
"headset", then three input device shown up, which are:

1. Headset Microphone - Built-in Audio
2. Internal Microphone - Built-in Audio
3. Microphone - Built-in Audio

[[[result]]]
No matter which cases, once you choice (3. Microphone - Built-in Audio), then
there is no headset output audio. Select others, the audio output came back.

[Bug 1875445] Re: Volume slider doesn't produce sound

2020-05-01 Thread Hui Wang
I just reproduced it and it is easy to reproduce, and I think this is a
new design on purpose in the gnome.

If there is no other audio apps (sink-inputs in the pulseaudio) than
"System Sounds" (#7), the adjustment volume slider will produce sound to
indicate the current output volume.

If there are other audio apps (#8), they will replace the "System
Sounds" when adjusting the volume slider. e.g. I run 'speaker-test -t
wav -c 2' in a terminal, this audio app will replace the "System Sounds"
when adjusting the volume slider, and the volume change is indicated by
speaker-test instead of "System Sounds"; After I close the speaker-test,
then the sound will come back to "System sounds" when adjusting the
volume slider.

So If you close those two audio apps with the name of "speech-
dispatcher-", the sound will be back to "System sounds".

So I think we should close this bug as invaliad?

Quite some investigations you did there ironincoder, don't forget to
post here if you manage to get the speakers going. ;) I was actually
wondering where the correct place to post and get codec issues fixed is,
because this probably isn't the place? Is there a bug tracker for Alsa?

This is potentially especially annoying to me, because I have backups

I did that but there isn't /tmp folder containing pulseaudio.log. There
is a tmp folder but it does not contain any pulseaudio.log. The only
file related to pulse is pulseverbose.log in the home folder. If that

keep waiting for further instructions.

[Bug 1876415] [NEW] Fonts in the GNOME shell not shown.

2020-05-01 Thread Cornelius Huber
Public bug reported:

GNOME does not show any text in the DE itself. Examples of text that is
missing: The activities button on the top left, date and time, text of
notifications, authentication dialogs, the telegram icon not displaying
the number of unread messages, searches in the search bar. The text
however is drawn in applications that are not an integral part of the
shell itself, such as the settings application, terminals, Firefox,
Rhythmbox, GNOME System montior.

The bug appeared seemingly out of nowhere, can be worked around though
pretty easily by chainging the fonts of the user interface in the GNOME
tweak tool. The problem reappears, if the user interface fonts are
changed back to the fonts which were not appearing on the screen
originally. Changing the font size does not fix the problem.

[Bug 1825766] Re: search results don't match apt search

2020-05-01 Thread Matthias Klumpp
@stuardo:
The reason for Guake being missing is that the `guake.desktop` file in
`/usr/share/applications` is a symbolic link *and* the application doesn't ship
a metainfo file.
This is forbidden: https://wiki.debian.org/AppStream/Guidelines
The .desktop file being a symlink results in Guake basically not being seen by
the metadata generator at all. To fix this, either the .desktop file needs to
be an actual file, and not a symlink, or a metainfo file[1] has to be shipped
with this package. Ideally both.

The reason this package is missing is simply a result of nobody caring
enough to submit a patch or do a bit of work to make this app show up
for a few years now (it never was in the catalog, as far as I can tell).
Maybe a good case for a patch submission? ;-)

[Bug 1872108] Re: Bass not on working Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon 7th gen running focal

2020-05-01 Thread Hui Wang
Right, but the Bass speaker bind the DAC 0x2, it is a normal speaker's
DAC; if it binds other DAC, the current ucm can't handle this situation.

So the community has not resolved it, need to upstream has a solution
first.

thx.

2020-05-01 Thread Joshua Peisach
Public bug reported:

I installed all KDE Plasma software:

sudo apt-get install kde-* plasma-* --no-install-recommends

Sorry for bumping an old issue, but the "fix" released on upstream seems
to be the "nuclear" option of completely removing `snap`... which might
not work for everyone. :(

[Bug 1824874] Re: undismissable, unclickable authentication dialog left on screen (top-left corner) after policykit authentication [pushModal: invocation of begin_modal failed]

2020-05-01 Thread Jixun Ding
I also just experienced this same bug on fresh install of Focal 20.04. I
don't have Yubikey. Since the appearance of the window is delayed from
whatever triggers it, I don't know what the cause is. The behavior is as
other describes, a orphaned window on top left corner of screen,
clicking the window results in whatever is underneath being clicked.
Logging out and relogging makes the window disappear.

[Bug 1875271] Re: Virtualbox install via apt install has errors

2020-05-01 Thread Lukas svärdkvist
I have usually used VboxHeadless to start vm's via systemd unit files,
But I guess some use it for some vrdp functionality.

Anyway, VboxManage can do almost the same thing. For me the only change
was adding RemainAfterExit=yes in my unit file and changing VboxHeadless
--startvm debian to VboxManage command instead. Just wanted to add this
in. I briefly looked into Oracle's documentation and also found an old
post on there forums mentioning VboxHeadless is the preferred way to
start vm's this way. Anyway, works for now.

""This is the recommended way, because when starting the headless
interface through VBoxManage, you will not be able to view or log
messages that VBoxHeadless may have output on the console. Especially in
case of startup errors, such output might be desirable for problem
diagnosis.""

Requires=systemd-modules-load.service
After=systemd-modules-load.service

Type=simple

Group=vboxusers
ExecStart=/usr/bin/vboxmanage startvm debian --type headless

I also encouter this problem. Each time someone share a zoom link,

I'm thinking about using a different browser just because this bug does
not seem importantenough to be solved.

I hope someone takes the time to fix this.

[Bug 1733125] Re: desktop background does not refresh

2020-05-01 Thread Chris Guiver
My prior comment doesn't cover every case; lotuspsychje didn't list
changes or prior configs, r-mazitis likewise makes no mention so it any,
and wxl highlighted that the 1862756 was seemed related to graphics
chipset.

Little detail on this report mentions graphics chipsets...

[Bug 1876286] Re: Evolution reports "Error performing TLS handshake: Internal error in memory allocation."

2020-05-01 Thread wpshooter
Am having this problem with my Verizon email account which was migrated to AOL
several years back.
Am using Evolution version 3.28.5-0ubuntu0.18.04.2 which is the default version
as presently updated for Linux Mint 19.3 mate 64 bit. AOL has been zero help
in troubleshooting this problem

Problem started about 2 days ago.

Send email functions just fine.
Receiving email will not function. Gives error:
Error performing TLS handshake: Internal error in memory allocation
Have send function setup as: smtp.verizon.net on port 465 which has worked
until just 2 days ago.
Have receive function setup as: pop.verizon.net on port 995 which has worked
until just 2 days ago.
Encryption method on receive function encrytion method setup as: TLS on a
dedicated port

Get this error when poll for supported types: Failed to query server
for a list of supported authentication mechanisms. Error performing TLS
handshake: Internal error in memory allocation.

Let me know if you need more info. joverstre...@verizon.net or
jrowpshoot...@gmail.com
Thanks.

Meant to say that smtp setting is still working, it is only the pop
function that stopped working 2 days ago.

do the SRU with the testcase you provided. I'll sponsor the backport for
you.

[Bug 809302] Re: pydoc -k launches kwallet

2020-05-01 Thread Rolf Leggewie
For me on bionic, that command tries to launch gourmet, a totally
unrelated application.

$ pydoc -k "hello"
boto.pyami.helloworld
usage: gourmet [-h] [--version] [--database-url DB_URL]
   [--plugin-directory HTML_PLUGIN_DIR] [--use-threads]
   [--disable-threads] [--gourmet-directory GOURMETDIR]
   [--debug-threading-interval THREAD_DEBUG_INTERVAL]
   [--debug-threading] [--debug-file DEBUG_FILE] [--showtimes]
   [--disable-psyco] [-q | -v]
gourmet: error: unrecognized arguments: -k hello
