[Bug 1905842] Re: Bluetooth once turned off then it does'nt start agin

2020-11-26 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The Bluetooth menu item is *designed* to hide if turned off and you
hadn't paired anything yet

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/1426#note_912033

I'm not sure I agree with that design but it does mean it's not a bug.
You will need to either:

 * Re-enable Bluetooth via Settings; or
 * Pair a Bluetooth device.

certainly if the Swift locks up).

[Bug 1905825] [NEW] [SRU] Disable CRTCs when system becomes headless

2020-11-26 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
On new Intel SoCs, after all connectors are unplugged and the system becomes
headless, it cannot detect monitor hotplug event from type-c port.

[Fix]
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/merge_requests/1561

Based on "drm/i915 Intel GFX Driver, Hotplug" [1]:
"Finally, the userspace is responsible for triggering a modeset upon receiving
the hotplug uevent, disabling or enabling the crtc as needed."

[Test]
Unplug type-c monitor from an Intel Tiger Lake desktop. Replug the monitor
back, monitor is blank.
With the fix applied, the system can detect monitor again.

[Where problems could occur]
This fix disables CRTCs when there's no monitor, if driver has trouble dealing
with it, we may see something break.

[Bug 1905817] [NEW] Thumbnail

2020-11-26 Thread Muhammad Habib
Public bug reported:

Sorry.
I am using xubuntu 16.04 linux. I tried installing themes, icons and others,
because I thought it didn't look good, so I used it. But the problem I want to
report is that after I apply it, the photo, video or so on, it doesn't display
the thumbnail Preview of the file. I tried to restore the original settings but
still, is this a bug?
Then when I enter the file manager using sudo thunar / nautilus, the thumbnail
is shown here? On the other hand, if you don't use it with sudo access, it
won't show up.
Please help, I've installed ffmpegthumbnailer and one other thing, but still.
Thanks.

[Bug 1905808] Re: alsa/hda: The sound output is abnormal when the balance is on center after switch from the audio speaker to headset on a Dell AIO

2020-11-26 Thread Hui Wang
** Description changed:

- This bug is for tracking purpose
+ Since this patch is cced to stable kernel, I only send this patch
+ to oem-5.6 kernel since oem project needs it, other ubuntu kernels
+ will merge this patch with stable update.
+
+ [Impact]
+ The sound output is abnormal when the balance is on center after
+ switch from the audio speaker to headset on a Dell AIO
+
+ [Fix]
+ Realtek engineer submit a patch to usptream, I backport this patch
+ to ubuntu oem kernel.
+
+ [Test]
+ plug a speaker, plug out this speaker, then plug a headset, play some
+ sound from headset, the sound quality is pretty good.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ This SRU could make some Dell AIO not work well on audio output, like
+ can't output sound or output poor quality sound. but this posibility is
+ low since we tested this patch on a couple of dell AIO, all worked well.

[Bug 1905377] Re: postrm fails in hirsute as the path generation for modules is broken

This bug was fixed in the package qemu - 1:5.1+dfsg-4ubuntu2

---
qemu (1:5.1+dfsg-4ubuntu2) hirsute; urgency=medium

  * Fix upgrade module handling (LP: #1905377)
This was accetped in a slightly different form in qemu_5.0-6 and therefore
allows to drop some former delta that is now conflicting.
Ubuntu still keeps enabling --enable-module-upgrades, but only for
qemu-xen which doesn't exist in Debian
- Drop d/qemu-block-extra.*.in, d/qemu-system-gui.*.in

Re: [Bug 1905759] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGABRT in GI_raise()

2020-11-26 Thread Daniel Richard
Hello,
Thank you very much! My apologies for attaching the crash file - I hadn't
realized this might be problematic.
I followed what you indicated (particularly #2) and found the following
links:
https://errors.ubuntu.com/oops/2f0e2248-3008-11eb-8c9b-fa163e983629

I think I may have erroneously send multiple of the same crash reports - my
apologies if this was the case.
Please let me know if there is anything else I might provide.

Thanks,

Daniel

[Bug 1905759] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGABRT in GI_raise()

2020-11-26 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 1854092] Re: pbcopy & pbpaste for Linux

2020-11-26 Thread psl
A year ago I published in this bug report a script to copy data from
clipboard to standard output. This is updated version, only small
modifications to improve compatibility with dash shell.

```
#!/bin/sh
# print data from clipboard to stdout, again and again...
MODE="xclip"
#MODE="xsel" # doesn't work well, clipboard is not cleaned and the same text is
printed again and again :-(
pbcopy ()
{
   if [ "$MODE" = "xclip" ]; then
 xclip -selection clip -i
   else
 xsel --clipboard --input
   fi
}
pbpaste ()
{
   if [ "$MODE" = "xclip" ]; then
 xclip -selection clip -o
   else
[Bug 1905793] [NEW] latest poppler xenial update breaks xpdf
[Bug 1868703] Re: Support "ad_use_ldaps" flag for new AD requirements (ADV190023)
2020-11-26 Thread Matthew Ruffell
Verification for sssd on Bionic:
The customer tested sssd from -updates, version 1.16.1-1ubuntu1.6 and
the package from -proposed, version 1.16.1-1ubuntu1.7.
Begins:
Before applying the patch [package from -proposed] I confirmed open
ports to our domain controllers using ss and grepping for the DC IPs.
Before the patch 389 and 3268 were being actively used.
After the patch [installing the package from -proposed] (and after
running a few user queries with `id`) ports 636 and 3269 were being
used.
Ends.
This matches my testing and testing Tobias has done, so happy to mark
sssd as verified for Bionic.
NAK on the linux patch.
I think this is a grub bug.
When loading multiple initrds, grub aligns_up each one of them at 4bytes
boundary, and allocates pages for that. And it declares and passes
ramdisk_image as the total allocated memory. Rather than the true size
of the initrds.
[Bug 1905285] Re: socket-activated sshd breaks on concurrent connections
2020-11-26 Thread Marcin Słowik
Hello Segio,
Have you tried editing ssh@.service as well? In my case, sshd.service ->
ssh.service and that is not used when ssh is in socket-activated mode,
ssh@.service is, at least that's how I understand systemd.
I now understand how to override the unit files with [unit-
file].d/override.conf files and that at least fixes the overwrite on
update issue (although I must say it's a bit unintuitive, since some of
the /usr/lib/systemd/system configs are symlinked from
/etc/systemd/system and IIRC you should be allowed to modify configs
under /etc, but I digress). AFAICT that's precisely what `systemctl
edit` does.
Seth, thank you for linking the manpage, it was... educational to say
the least :).
[Bug 1905790] [NEW] Recompile SSSD in 20.04 using OpenSSL (instead of NSS) support
2020-11-26 Thread Treviño
Public bug reported:
[ Impact ]
SSSD supports two security backends: NSS and OpenSSL.
Those two backends are used for various generic crypto features (so they
are interchangeable), but also for the management of the PKCS#11 modules
for smart cards.
In this case, the main problem is that by using NSS it also relies on
the presence of a "system NSS" database [1] that is something present in
Fedora and RHEL, but not in ubuntu or generic Linux distributions.
In order to make SSSD to find a smart card module, we would then need to create
a such database that mentions a p11kit proxy that will eventually load the
p11-kit module and then add the card CA certificate to the same DB (see more
details in [2]).
And even in such case... It will not work at login phase.
This is making support for Smart-card based authentication in 20.04
quite complicated, and hard to implement in professional environments.
As per this, just recompiling SSSD to use OpenSSL (as it already happens
starting from 20.10) would be enough to make the p11_child tool (the one
in charge for smartcard authentications) to be able to get the smartcard
devices from p11-kit allowed modules and to check their certificate
using CA certificates in the ubuntu system ca certificate files (or
other configured file).
One more mayor reason to do this, is also that if we fix 20.04 now to
use the "proper" method, people who will configure smartcard access
there via SSSD (not easily possible right now) won't be affected by
future migrations.
[ Test case ]
With a smartcard reader available (and with a card in its slot) launch:
 - sudo /usr/libexec/sssd/p11_child --pre -d 10 --debug-fd=2 \
   --nssdb=/etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt
The tool should find your card:
[/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/pkcs11/opensc-pkcs11.so].
(2020-11-26 21:34:22:025443): [p11_child[100729]] [do_card] (0x4000):
Description [VMware Virtual USB CCID 00 00
module [1][/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/pkcs11/opensc-pkcs11.so].
Then the tool might fail if the card certificate is not added to the ca-
certificates.crt, but this is outside the scope of the test case.
What it matters is that the card is found.
[ Regression potential ]
While the change may involve quite different code paths when it comes to
security features, I think we trust OpenSSL enough to be an acceptable
crypto backend. And behavior should not change.
The only binary that is really affected in its behavior is p11_child.
And I'm confident that even changing this a lot, it will break only
those setup (if there are any, given that smartcard access is currently
not supported by ubuntu) that have been manually configured using an
unsupported system NSS db.
In the remote case there are such configurations, though, the fix will
be as easy as adding the CA certificates to the new PAM cert DB (by
default /etc/sssd/pki/sssd_auth_ca_db.pem), while the p11-kit modules
will continue to work as before.
It's also technically easy to do a postinst script that will just export
all the certificates from the old nss db (/etc/pki/nssdb) into the new
file, if we want to avoid any unlikely breakage.
