2021-04-14 Thread John Bloom
I ran ubuntu-bug on the .crash file. The bug that created is here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bluez/+bug/1924221
I also did a quick build of bluez 5.58 and can confirm it does not seem to
segfault when connecting my keyboard.

[Bug 1924217] Re: bluetoothd segfaults when Trackpoint II keyboard connects

2021-04-14 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

The type of arr can be any primitive (could possibly include more types,
didn't check). arr must be initialized with brackets. At least one of
the first two dimensions of arr must be a constant, while the last
dimension must be of variable length. I've repeated this behavior with

[Bug 1924205] Re: lubuntu hirsute QA-test install & prior ubuntu system fails to boot

2021-04-14 Thread Chris Guiver
POSSIBLE CAUSE :

I booted into Ubuntu hirsute (sda1) system again..

it's `fstab` refers to
/sda1 for / referenced by UUID
/boot/efi which is referenced by UUID & comment reports it as /dev/sdb2

so did the system boot ONLY because I had a thumb-drive plugged in
during my pre QA-install tests ??

The original Ubuntu thumb-drive (K) did still contain the Ubuntu daily
image at the time I did my pre-QA checks...

As Lubuntu has grown (just today) to beyond what I my usual 2GB forza-
thumb-drive can handle; I had to re-write it to a larger one and used
thumb-drive-K so the original media is now a different image.. and maybe
this bug is just a result in my forgetting to ensure USB ports were
empty..

I would have checked USB ports during the prior QA-test of Ubuntu
hirsute on the prior install; but may have re-inserted drive when box
was turned off so thumb-drive was easy to find for today's tests..

[Bug 1924205] Re: lubuntu hirsute QA-test install & prior ubuntu system fails to boot

2021-04-14 Thread Chris Guiver
** Description changed:

- to be filled in..
+ Lubuntu hirsute (daily) QA-test install on
+ - hp dc7700 (c2d-e6320, 5gb, nvidia quadro nvs 290)
+
+ Testcase: install alongside
+
+ Note: Lubuntu should be using the `calamares` installed, but due to
+ https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/casper/+bug/1923881 the
+ current ISO is using `ubiquity` instead
+
+ Prior to install there was one partition (sda1) which contained Ubuntu
+ hirsute (a prior QA-test install).
+
+ It was tested & booted normally prior to this QA-test
+
+ ** expected result
+
+ Post-Lubuntu install; I have two systems
+
+ - ubuntu hirsute (boots & operates as it did prior to this QA-test install)
+ - lubuntu hirsute install
+
+ Both available via grub
+
+ ** actual result
+
+ - ubuntu fails to boot; recovery console only
+ - lubuntu install works perfectly.
+
+ ** changes noticed
+
+ From a single partition (sda1 using all disk space) I now have
+
+ sda1 ext4
+ sda2 fat32 /boot/efi in lubuntu
+ sda3 extended
+ sda5 ext4 / for lubuntu
+
+ I wonder if the addition of the fat32 has altered the booting of ubuntu
+ hirsute.
+
+
+ I'd really like to search the iso.qa.ubu test results & find my last ubuntu
hirsute install to confirm how I recorded the tests   When I booted ubuntu;
I expected it to fail to boot (been having loads of failures lately with Ubuntu
hirsute on BIOS boxes) but it booted correctly, looked good so I expected the
same post this install... I'm wondering if the successful boot was just a
fluke (but that's likely worse!)
+
+
+ This whole bug report maybe pointless due to aforementioned Lubuntu using
`ubiquity` to install issue.. but I've reported in case it shows an issue with
Ubuntu ubiquity (and BIOS/non-EFI install where ESP partition is added) on
pre-EFI boxes, and I need a bug report to fail the iso.qa.ubuntu.com result..

[Bug 1924190] Re: Display is wrong resolution, aspect ratio, and size

2021-04-14 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It appears you have a manually installed Nvidia driver, which is not
supported, and it stopped working around the time of the kernel update
from 5.8.0-48 to 5.8.0-49.

Please uninstall the NVIDIA driver you have and in future only install
NVIDIA drivers using the 'Additional Drivers' app so as to ensure they
will keep working with future kernel updates.

[Bug 1923657] Re: the information was send by the system

2021-04-14 Thread Daniel van Vugt
It sounds like you are describing bug 1824874 in comment #3, which is
indeed not yet fixed in Ubuntu 20.04.

As for there being general "errors", you can just make the problem go
away by running:

  sudo rm /var/crash/*

or if you wish to find out what caused those errors then please follow
these instructions:

I've subscribed Timo who should know why Ubuntu still prefers 'radeon'

But also I am only guessing that my recommended config changes will fix
the issue. It would be useful to test them too.

note: we notice we have new server platform has the installation issue. but not
serious than this one.
I will create another bug to track server platform installation issue.

Idaville, SPR-2S, CPX-4S, CLX-W

Canonical should have gotten all the platforms from Intel.

Please have a try on that platform.

[Bug 1924190] [NEW] Display is wrong resolution, aspect ratio, and size

2021-04-14 Thread Fletcher Porter
Public bug reported:

So last night (April 13th), I installed an update from Canonical that
popped up in a GUI, it said something about a security update (I didn't
look at it too hard). Since then I've rebooted my machine and now the
display is the wrong resolution (it ought to be 3840 x 2160, 597mm x
336mm, 60fps [monitor](https://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-27UD58-B-4k-
uhd-led-monitor)). I'm presently on Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS.

```
$ xrandr
xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default
Screen 0: minimum 1024 x 768, current 1024 x 768, maximum 1024 x 768
default connected primary 1024x768+0+0 0mm x 0mm
   1024x768  76.00*
```

```
$ inxi -G
Graphics:
  Device-1: NVIDIA GM107GL [Quadro K2200] driver: N/A
  Display: x11 server: X.Org 1.20.9 driver: fbdev,nouveau
  unloaded: modesetting,vesa resolution: 1024x768~76Hz
  OpenGL: renderer: llvmpipe (LLVM 11.0.0 256 bits) v: 4.5 Mesa 20.2.6
```

I've tried unplugging and replugging the monitor, rebooting several
times, adding an xrandr modeline, and changing `/etc/default/grub` to
have `GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash i915.alpha_support=1"`
(where it was `"quiet splash"` before). None of these have led to any
success.

My feeling is that there's some graphics driver issue (that the renderer
is llvmpipe doesn't seem right).

I guess there's also a confounding factor in that I'm running the
display through a [KVM switch](https://www.tripplite.com/2-port-
displayport-usb-kvm-switch-4k-60-hz-hdr%7EB005DPUA4), but I really hope
that's not the problem. I've been using it for a while anyway with no
issue, the Windows 10 partition of this machine renders fine, and I have
another machine running 18.04 that gets the resolution just fine.

I tried booting into recovery mode, which was no dice (also tried
cleaning up `dpkg` through the recovery interface). While I was in the
GRUB menu, I noticed that it defaults to the kernel version 5.8.0-49,
but that I also had 5.8.0-48 installed. Boothing into the older kernel,
everything worked. Curious, I checked the logs.

```
$ cat /var/log/dpkg.log | grep linux-image
2021-04-13 23:15:01 install linux-image-5.8.0-49-generic:amd64
5.8.0-49.55~20.04.1
```

And that lines up with when I did that update. So it seems that the new
kernel version somehow made it so xrandr couldn't detect any of the
modes on my monitor and just defaulted to some default.

So the workaround presently is just boot with 5.8.0-48.

[Bug 1923485] Re: unable to reconize Asgard NVME with short serial

2021-04-14 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
That said, we could fix this issue in curtin by searching for a device
with specified serial by just looking through the udev db directly
rather than by globbing in /dev/disk/by-id. In fact I thought we already
did that! But apparently not.

The upstream bug request has a PR that seems to fix the issue already. I
guess if it gets accepted upstream we can think about backporting the
fix to stable releases in the fullness of time.

[Bug 1924189] Re: The crash happened outside the Java Virtual Machine in native code

2021-04-14 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1924189/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you

[Bug 1923827] Re: Inconsistent ESP sizes

2021-04-14 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
I have to say I think I spent about 5ms thinking about the size to use
in subiquity. I guess it may make sense for subiquity to have a larger
default because it is at least possible to imagine other operating
systems being installed alongside Ubuntu for its use case, which is not
really the case for MAAS or cloud images.

Hm, is this your system with 160+ paths? Maybe something isn't waiting long
enough.

Well if it booted OK it doesn't sound t bad :) Can you attach the
journal output? Possibly to a new bug report as I'm pretty sure whatever
is going here is not related to the problem this bug was about.

[Bug 1864613] Re: xfwm4 very, very slow - leaking something?

2021-04-14 Thread Robie Basak
The policy says:

"In other cases where such upstream automatic testing is not available,
exceptions must still be approved by at least one member of the Ubuntu
Technical Board."

So yes, you can ask for an exception. If you want to do that, I suggest
that you point technical-board@ at this bug.

> ...or do we need to instead do one of...

I think you'd need to do both of what you have listed there. You might
want to pick the most important fixes to cherry-pick, rather than all of
them.

> My concern is that having a pulling in individual commits creates a
version of Xfwm that doesn’t otherwise exist and is only supported by
Xubuntu and not the upstream. It also leads to more work later if any of
the unincluded bug fixes need to be fixed later.

You're certainly not the only one who has made this argument. Note
though that this concern applies equally to *any* package being updated
under this Ubuntu policy. In effect, you're saying that you disagree
with the policy in principle, rather than presenting a specific case for
why the policy should be set aside for you in this particular case due
to some exceptional circumstance.

You're entitled to disagree with Ubuntu policy, and discussion to change
the policy if it is no longer appropriate is also welcome. But if the
project were to agree with you on this specific concern, then I think it
would make sense to change the policy itself rather than grant an
exception on the basis of this specific argument. Doing otherwise would
be a contradiction of the policy itself.

There is a separate question here of what to do where automated tests
are difficult or don't make sense, as is the case I think with a GUI.
Maybe an exception could be discussed on this basis, or even a general
policy exception for GUIs.

I would like to point out that you're not being blocked from fixing this
bug pending further discussion here. If fixing this bug soon is
important to you, you can just cherry-pick the fix using the normal SRU
process.

[Bug 1923673] Re: Rewrite fkms overlay to kms overlay on upgrade of desktop pi image

2021-04-14 Thread Dave Jones
Hmm, config.txt is fairly wide ranging, dealing with things the user
generally shouldn't change (which kernel to boot, which initramfs to
load) to things they're very likely to change (whether the camera
firmware is enabled, overlays to load for things like the fan-shim).

Unfortunately the lines that may need altering may well be spread out
across the file so there's not necessarily an ideal location to place a
comment but I could certainly adjust things to output such a comment
prior to the first line changed and link to this bug.

I'll propose a merge in a bit with the suggestions.

[Bug 1921562] Re: Intermittent hangs during ldap_search_ext when TLS enabled

2021-04-14 Thread Robie Basak
Hello Vincent, or anyone else affected,

Accepted openldap into focal-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openldap/2.4.49+dfsg-
2ubuntu1.8 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
focal to verification-done-focal. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-focal. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

** Changed in: openldap (Ubuntu Focal)
Status: In Progress => Fix Committed

[Bug 1923881] Re: Lubuntu and Ubuntu Studio Hirsute incorrectly launch Ubiquity installer

2021-04-14 Thread Walter Lapchynski
@xnox that's a very good question. What I can say is that Calamares does
look for locales (/usr/share/i18n/SUPPORTED, locale.gen, `locale -a`, in
that order) and certainly does include its own functionality for
choosing through those options. That said, I don't *think* it needs it.
We did take today's image and removed all the ubiquity-* packages, ran
Calamares, and it seemed like everything worked just fine. So I guess
you could make the depend calamares | ubiquity but that seems rather
bizarre to me. I mean, after all, the issue here is that the installer
requires this, right? So why not have casper depend on no installer and
make the installer have the dependency?

They should broadly look like ubuntu-cpc cloud image, however they
  should be

  1) RAW .xz compressed disk images
  2) use linux-generic, instead of linux-virtual
  3) have CIDATA partition with sample datasource files that one can modify
  4) have nocloud data source to allow login with ubuntu:ubuntu & change
password on first login
  5) have ESP

These are very useful for plugfests, booting from a usb-stick / hard-

2021-04-14 Thread Dave Jones
Ahh, good point -- I had naively assumed it was an arch all package but
you're absolutely right it's arm{hf,64} (and besides, it'd be good
practice to use a .get there anyway).

On the distUpgrade, should all references be replaced with "do-release-
upgrade"? I'm particularly thinking of things like the config.txt
backup, currently being named config.txt.distUpgrade (which apes what
happens to the apt sources.list). Or should I just be replacing
distUpgrade references in the comments?

(LP: #1900904). But it's getting close to release so I'll push it anyway
and deal with the other ticket separately.

I also think changing "distUpgrade" to something slightly more
informative, like do-release-upgrade, might help people who run into an
error.

I think this is going to crash on amd64 (and other architectures) given
that the package you are looking for won't be in the cache.

+if cache['ubuntu-desktop-raspi'].is_installed:

[Bug 1923670] Re: CIFS DFS entries not accessible with 5.4.0-71.74-generic

2021-04-14 Thread Matthew Ruffell
Thanks Tim for building the test kernel, and Hmpf, thanks for testing it
and confirming it fixes the problem.

Okay, so the problem is:

commit a738c93fb1c17e386a09304b517b1c6b2a6a5a8b
Author: Shyam Prasad N
Date: Thu Feb 11 03:26:54 2021 -0800
Subject: cifs: Set CIFS_MOUNT_USE_PREFIX_PATH flag on setting cifs_sb->prepath.
Link:
https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/a738c93fb1c17e386a09304b517b1c6b2a6a5a8b

Looking at Focal, it seems Tim has submitted the revert and it has been
applied for the next kernel update:

https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kernel-team/2021-April/119241.html
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kernel-team/2021-April/119242.html

https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kernel-team/2021-April/119244.html
https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/kernel-team/2021-April/119246.html

Thanks Tim!

As for Bionic, it seems to still be applied to master-next, and hasn't
been tagged into a release yet:

https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/k9SffBrBMb/

Groovy seems to be in the same situation:

https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/wRX79WKpy3/

Tim, are there any plans to get the revert landed in Bionic and Groovy
for this cycle? I really don't want cause any regressions if we can
avoid it.

[Bug 1924186] [NEW] firefox title bar cannot be turned off in 21.04

2021-04-14 Thread Chris Hermansen
Public bug reported:

Today a Firefox update was pushed out for 21.04. Not sure if this
problem occurred with the update or before, but I just noticed it after
the update.

Using the Firefox hamburger menu, then selecting Customize toolbar... I
arrive at a tab titled Customize Firefox. In the lower left corner of
the screen is a checkbox for Titlebar.

If that checkbox is checked, the titlebar appears at the top of the
window, and below it are all the tabs.

If that checkbox is NOT checked, the titlebar remains visible but now
the window controls are duplicated on the tabs line (in my case to the
left as I have the window control position set to the left).

In previous versions of Firefox, it was nice to be able to turn off the
titlebar and have the controls move to the tabs line. And in any case,
two sets of active window controls, one beneath the other, is not
particularly useful.

leh sigh.

I think the right way forward is for ubiquity to publish _standalone_
ubiquity-localechooser-data like package, which otherwise has no other
ubiquity dependencies.

[Bug 1923881] Re: Lubuntu and Ubuntu Studio Hirsute incorrectly launch Ubiquity installer

2021-04-14 Thread Walter Lapchynski
Looks like the real culprit here is having casper depend upon ubiquity. I
suspect before the removal of udeb packages (including localechooser-data which
was the alternative to the depend otherwise satisfied by ubiquity), we never
ran into this problem simply because of localechooser-data:

[Bug 1923731] Re: Can't install from USB, at the end can't copy to /boot/something and update-grub fails with "no space left on device", but there is space

2021-04-14 Thread Mihai Preda
I found a workaround: I booted with the live USB, and changed the pre-
existing swap partition on the installation target (/dev/sda) to a EFI
partition. Then the grub-install progressed without error because it
could write to that partition. My install was on a MBR disk and I'm not
booting EFI.

And I can confirm that if I spoof the user agent using the "armv7l"
token, the google search page is redirected to the consent page, which
is consistent with what I'm seeing with firefox on android.

[Bug 1923925] [NEW] Bluetooth headset (Teufel Airy True Wireless) does not pair with intel ac 9260

2021-04-14 Thread Cornelius
Public bug reported:

A new bluetooth headset (Teufel Airy True Wireless) cannot be paired on
my dell precision 5530 having an intel ac 9260 bluetooth chipset using
ubuntu 20.04.

Using an ubuntu 18.04 (boot from usb) I was able to connect the headset
without any problem.

As a workaround I transfering the device info file
(/var/lib/bluetooth///info) to
20.04, having it paired this way it works without problems.

It was important to reset device list on the hedphones before, it was
not connecting in 18.04 after unsuccessfuly trying with 20.04 so maybe
there was already a device key stored in the headset.

Please let me know if I could give you further debug information.

[Bug 1923910] [NEW] Some mouse buttons not working

2021-04-14 Thread Chris Moore
Public bug reported:

I have a Jelly Comb mouse, connected with a wireless USB dongle. It has
two main buttons, a clickable scrollwheel, and another button behind the
scrollwheel.

XEV does not detect clicks from the scrollwheel, or the additional
button behind the scrollwheel.

Attached is a xev report where all the buttons are activated.

Button 1 is left click, Button 3 is right click, Button 4 is scroll up
and Button 5 is scroll down.

I am using Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS

xmodmap-pp gives the following:

[Bug 1923868] Re: Bootable buildd images silent on both graphical and serial console

2021-04-14 Thread Joshua Powers
Adding livecd-rootfs as this is where I believe this would be changed.

In livecd-rootfs, CPC images get a 50-cloudimg-settings.cfg where
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT is set without quiet. Similarly, ubuntu-core
does something similar in their hooks.

[Bug 1923714] Re: groovy-proposed: Unable to upgrade to 7.0.5-0ubunt0.20.10.1

2021-04-14 Thread Olivier Tilloy
Please note that keeping the proposed pocket enabled is not recommended,
it may result in broken packages being installed on your system. The
recommendation is to enable it only occasionally when you need to test a
selected package, and once testing is complete disable it again.
