[Bug 1976161] Re: Session restarts when opening Pluma or GitHub link in browser

2022-05-29 Thread Alberto Mardegan
Hi Fernando, and thanks for reporting this bug!

If, as you wrote in the bug description, you reproduce it when logging
in with your uername and password, then this bug is not related to bug
1593407, which is about the "guest session" (that is the session for
those users who don't have a login in the machine).

There appears to be something wrong with the user session. Are you using
Wayland or Xorg?

Also, can you please attach the output of these commands (you can run
them before opening the troublesome link in firefox, while your session
is still working):

systemctl --user status xdg-document-portal.service
systemctl --user status
snap.snapd-desktop-integration.snapd-desktop-integration.service

Looking at your alsa-info, you don't have the CLS0100 amplifier chips,
which is what those modules would enable support for. Your laptop is not
supported by those modules and likely aren't supported at all.

Hi everyone, with a thanks of your support!
I recently bought a new model of Yoga 7i 16" alsa-info is here:
https://pastebin.com/cPPAp0vq
I so i do have 4 speakers with amp on which is not working in Linux (as
everybody mentioned here on windows sound it is strong), the rest of the sound
in headphones, bluetooth mic are loading fine . I've read carefully most of you
posts, and I tested some commands in my Arcolinux system (Archlinux)

So with kernel 5.17 it is support for following modules:( i am currently on
linux 5.18.0-arch1-1)
serial_multi_instantiate
snd-soc-cs35l41-lib
snd-hda-scodec-cs35l41-i2c
snd-hda-scodec-cs35l41-spi

and i managed to load them helped by modinfo command noticed that some
of them have dependencies other modules. So I preload the dep and then i
made an file in /etc/modules-load/ where i listed all this modules in
order to be load at boot. I checked after boot to see it all these
modules are loaded- was successfully done.

But my sound is still the same - the AMP on speakers doesn't work!

I won't give up testing the further suggestions you might have, t!

[Bug 713385] Re: netcfg/choose_interface=auto fails to find the right interface

2022-05-29 Thread Chuan Li
One of UA customer runs into this issue at 20.04.
The customer is not using PXE boot to install server. The customer is using a
customized ISO to install the server, so the comment #18 is not applicable.

For example, the preseed is like

d-i netcfg/choose_interface select auto
d-i netcfg/disable_autoconfig boolean true
d-i netcfg/get_ipaddress string 10.x.x.x
d-i netcfg/get_netmask string 255.255.255.224
d-i netcfg/get_gateway string 10.x.x.x
d-i netcfg/get_nameservers string 10.x.x.x
d-i netcfg/confirm_static boolean true

When the server has multiple interfaces but only one interface is connected,
the 'auto' can not recognize the right one.
The workaround is to select the right one manually as 'd-i
netcfg/choose_interface select eno5'.

But if different machines have different interfaces being connected, the
customized ISO will need to be constantly modified accordingly.

[Bug 1971437] Re: linux-image-5.15.0-27-generic causes Thinkpad T460p to not resume after suspend

2022-05-29 Thread Sebastien G
I needed to disable my USB bluetooth mouse to wake-up my Lenovo Thinkpad
T460p with mainline kernel 5.14.16, but if I redo "# echo XHCI >
/proc/acpi/wakeup" with the kernel 5.15.0-27-generic and it prints this
:

XHCI S3 *enabled pci::00:14.0

even the USB bluetooth mouse won't be able to wake-up the laptop. I have
the exact same issue with newer kernel 5.15.0-33-generic from the
current linux-image-generic package.

But the problem is solved using mainline kernel 5.18.0!

[Bug 1976198] [NEW] Possible missing dependencies of libsdl2-dev in Jammy

2022-05-29 Thread Lin Manfu
Public bug reported:

UBUNTU RELEASE

Ubuntu 22.04 LTS (Kubuntu but I think that's irrelevant)

PACKAGES AND VERSIONS
libsdl2-dev 2.0.20+dfsg-2build1
libsdl2-2.0-0 2.0.20+dfsg-2build1

STEPS TO REPRODUCE

(This is how I discovered the issue, but there is probably a much more minimal
reproduction case)
1. Download the Simutrans-Extended repo:
https://github.com/jamespetts/simutrans-extended
2. Download the dependencies, at a minimum libsdl2-dev
3. Following the instructions there for building with autotools

EXPECTED RESULTS

Simutrans-Extended compiles correctly, as it did on Focal Fossa.

ACTUAL RESULTS

When I tried to build it on Jammy Jellyfish, the build failed with the
following errors from the linker:

/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -ldrm: No such file or directory
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lgbm: No such file or directory
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -ldecor-0: No such file or directory

Installing the libdrm-dev, libgbm-dev, and libdecor-0-dev packages
solved that problem. But I wonder whether it might be a packaging bug. I
follow Simutrans-Extended development quite closely and we have not
intentionally introduced dependencies on those packages; I think they
have been brought in by SDL2.

If a program using sdl2-dev used to be able to compile without those
packages, but now requires them, it seems to me that they are now
dependencies of sdl2-dev. Or at least be 'suggests'. But I am not an
expert on this.

COMMENTS

Those libraries are not direct dependencies of Simutrans. However,
Ubuntu's sdl2-0-0 package has added dependencies on libgbm1, libdrm2,
and libdecor-0-0.

Compare the Focal dependencies
https://packages.ubuntu.com/focal/libsdl2-2.0-0
..with the Jammy dependencies:
https://packages.ubuntu.com/jammy/libsdl2-2.0-0

The Jammy libsdl2-dev package does **not** list dependencies on the
appropriate development packages:
https://packages.ubuntu.com/jammy/libsdl2-dev

I notice that SDL's own build guide lists those packages as dependencies for
building SDL2 itself on Focal Fossa:
https://github.com/libsdl-org/SDL/blob/main/docs/README-linux.md
But that change was made in February 2021 so it affects Ubuntu's version of
SDL2 in Jammy, not Focal:
https://github.com/libsdl-org/SDL/commit/2f4e9294aa260635d876b5699846adc458f555db

I initially asked about this on AskUbuntu and a comment there confirmed
that the required .so files are in (for example) libgbm-dev, not lib-
gbm1: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1410876/is-ubuntus-libsdl2-dev-
package-missing-dependencies-or-have-i-made-a-
mistake?noredirect=1#comment2451919_1410876

I might file a bug report upstream with Debian if I can figure out their
bugtracking system.

[Bug 1976177] Re: Ubiquity not using password provided by UI

2022-05-29 Thread Chris Guiver
The media used is not a Ubuntu ISO.

For this bug to be explored, an official Ubuntu ISO (eg. 20.04.4) would
need to be used, to rule out issues created by the unsupported (by
Ubuntu) third party ISO used in the initial filing.

I've marked this bug report invalid. If you believe this is a ubiquity
bug, please use a Ubuntu ISO to confirm the issue occurs there, and file
another bug report using `ubuntu-bug ubiquity` if the problem occurs.
You can provide a link to this report so additional details noted here
can also be used in locating & providing a fix.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

[Bug 874181] Re: brltty daemon prevents creation of ttyUSB0 device link

2022-05-29 Thread R Lovell
Linux is finally getting Windows users to experiment with switching over
to Linux. Many of those new users are natural experimenters anyway.
That is why most of the complaints on this thread include ham radio
operators that are using the serial USB connection for some other piece
of hardware. And what do they get? An impossible to figure out bug
with something in the OS. That, my friends, is not how you keep growing
a user base of people sick of Windows. As for me, this bug has broken
my spirit, and I am finally making the move away from Ubuntu and Pop OS.
This one broke me.

[Bug 1969577] Re: Small icons in app grid of Activities Overview

2022-05-29 Thread Duke
With regard to the difference between the app grid when using the default
Ubuntu Dock extension and the Dash to Dock for COSMIC extension, it looks like:
* in the case of the default Ubuntu Dock extension, the elements of the app
grid are centered horizontally relative to the app grid, not including the dock
(and their size is calculated based on the available width); this is why the
app icons are smaller, but the elements in the app grid are centered correctly
relative to the app grid (the left and right margins have the same width)
* in the case of the Dash to Dock for COSMIC extension, the elements of the app
grid are centered horizontally relative to the screen, including the dock (and
their size is calculated based on the available width); this is why the app
icons are bigger, but the elements in the app grid are not centered correctly
relative to the app grid (the left margin is smaller than the right margin)

[Bug 1976189] Re: [CVE-2019-20326] gthumb crashes when trying to load an image with a height above 32767 px (heap-based buffer overflow)

2022-05-29 Thread Joshua Peisach
** Description changed:

[For some reason, the autoreporter wasn't opening Launchpad so I'm
  bugging this manually]

CVE-2019-20326 - if gThumb tries to load an image greater than Cairo's
max drawing size, it will crash. This is a heap-based buffer overflow an
  attacker could execute harmful code.

Fysac on GitHub made a good writeup about this -
  https://github.com/Fysac/CVE-2019-20326

  I have a patch for 20.04 Focal.
+
+ [Impact]
+
+ * When gthumb opens or the user tries to open larger than 32767 px, it
+ overflows Cairo's max image size. Thus, a heap buffer overflow crashes
+ gthumb.
+
+ * An attacker could use this to execute arbitrary code.
+
+ [Test Plan]
+
+ * Get or craft a JPEG image that has a height larger than 32767 pixels.
+
+ * Clone this repo if you need the image:
+
+ * Open it in gthumb, or just run 'gthumb poc.min.jpg'
+
+ [Where problems could occur]
+
+ * The code is in C - a great time for other regressions to open (thanks
+ NULL)
+
+ * If an update is made to the cairo library, this can break the patch and
break
+ gthumb; not only this patch but the software as a whole
+
+ * This issue may still be reproducible across other formats - png, svg,
+ etc.
+
+ * The type of image rendering may still make this vulnerable (see how
+ the buffer was fixed every case in the patch)
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ * Desktop, ubuntu 20.04
+ * Not sure if I want to do Ubuntu 18.04, but cinnamon users may use gthumb
so for ubuntu cinnamon i feel like its important and 20.04 its still in service
for UCR

Check once again. I can install jammy on that VM without touching

normal Ubuntu steps from my case, and start ubiquity the same way.
Installation was successful but in logs there are all that access denied
messages. I can upload that logs if that can help. Jammy booted from

[Bug 1970139] Re: VNC Connection doesn't work on arm64 (Raspberry Pi 4 8Gb) in Ubuntu 22.04 LTS

2022-05-29 Thread Zakhar
I am experiencing the exact same syndromes plus "Settings" does not seem
to be recording correctly the VNC password, it keeps taking another
value after reboot... strange, I'll have to reproduce it.

I am eagerly waiting for the fix to make its way to the official repos!

It is a pity Canonical is advertising super optimisations on Raspberry
Pi 4 with 22.04 and this basic feature is totally broken as is: was
never ever tested...

This is a complete show-stopper for me as remote access to the machine,
be it through SSH (which works!) or graphically, is sort of a necessary
feature for this kind of machines.

Probably some way of improvement in the QA... like suggesting Canonical
to buy a Raspberry Pi 4 to the maintainers involved!.. That's a pretty
inexpensive machine. :-)

[Bug 1976177] Re: Ubiquity not using password provided by UI

2022-05-29 Thread Adam Szewczyk
Once again, steps that I performed:

1.) boot VM from skywavelinux-4.3.0-flashback.iso
2.) setup internet connection manually
3.) sudo apt-get update
4.) sudo apt-get install ubiquity ubiquity-frontend-gtk
ubiquity-frontend-gtk-panel ubiquity-slideshow-ubuntu ubiquity-casper
5.) sudo mount /dev/loop0 /media/cdrom
6.) sudo ls -s /media/cdrom /cdrom
7.) ubiquity -d gtk_ui
8.) Try to perform normal graphical installation (with erase and install option)

I mount loop0 since without that there was an error with adding cdrom to
apt.

When I comment out usermode command from user-setup-apply Ubiquity
report successful installation.

[Bug 1976177] Re: Ubiquity not using password provided by UI

2022-05-29 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your log files attached to this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with the disk to which you are trying to
install Ubuntu. I'd recommend performing a back up of your existing
operating system and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections for your disks and using
software tools to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event
that is is not in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's
status back to New. Thanks and good luck!

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1976177] Re: Ubiquity not using password provided by UI

2022-05-29 Thread Adam Szewczyk
Ok, I read the logs once more. The error string for usermod was in fact
"10 passwd/user-password-crypted-casper-backup doesn't exist" so it is
the other field that I provide from frontend which was "passwd/user-
password". So the filed is in fact missing? But error handling here
still can be handy.

[Bug 1976177] Re: Ubiquity not using password provided by UI

2022-05-29 Thread Adam Szewczyk
I know that it is the problem with other Ubuntu based OS, but thing I
address is bug with error handling in ubiquity itself. I think it should
throw and error at the beginning when it got error when trying to
preseed (I guess) the 'passwd/user-fullname' or in best case use
password I chose in frontend. And now the behavior is that it try to use
error string as a parameter for usermode and fails due the space
character after '10'.

Other thing is that I can't find any presseed file on that ISO - there
is preseed directory but it is empty. Also I'm not see any 'file='
parameters in boot menu. So what is the source of all those preseeded
values?

apport information

** Description changed:

System: Skywave Linux Flashback Release: 4.3.0 - this is a Focal Remix
  live-cd based on Ubuntu 20.04.4 (https://skywavelinux.com/)

  Ubiquity Version: 20.04.15.19

I want to install this live distro on VM (standalone HVM on Qubes OS -
but I think this not make any difference). I installed ubiquity,
  ubiquity-casper, ubiquity-casper, ubiquity-frontend-gtk,ubiquity-
frontend-gtk-panel and ubiquity-slideshow-ubuntu via apt after 'sudo
apt-get update'. I also mounted booted iso as cdrom (using: 'sudo mount
  /dev/loop0 /media/cdrom' and 'sudo ls -s /media/cdrom /cdrom')

Then poceded installation as normal. When it comes to "Who are you?" page all
fields without password was filed by some garbage/error "10
passwd/user-fulname-casper-backup doesn't exist".
I changed it to values desired by me and chose some simple password.

Instalaltion crashed on user-setup. After some dbugging I found out that
$PASSWD variable that is used by setpassword() in user-setup-apply
script file is set to "10 passwd/user-fulname-casper-backup doesn't
exist" despite I was trying to set a new password via UI.

- I also add question about that behavior to find some workaround
- (https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+question/701995).

[Bug 1971933] Re: [Regression] Unable to wake laptop using trackpad input

2022-05-29 Thread John Smith
Was it working in any version on your laptop ?

(could be hardware difference).

I have an old XPS 15 (now barely used) that never had touchpad to wake.

On the new dell Inspiron 7000 series laptop, the touchpad (interaction)
to wake worked from the start. It worked for Ubuntu (18.10, 19.04,
19.10, 20.04, 20.10, 21.04, 21.10)

[Bug 1944085] Re: Keyboard switcher (or layout toggle hotkey) doesn't work

2022-05-29 Thread Daniel Williams
Update: Working better.

1. If a single keymap is enabled:
(for me, en-US/Dvorak) is enabled, that single keymap seems to work as expected

2. If 2 keymaps are enabled:
the first one (qwerty) seems to randomly override the active keymap. Manually
switching the active keyboard does not seem to have any affect.

workaround:
enable only the keymap / keyboard you want to use; remove the others.

[Bug 1976177] Re: Ubiquity not using password provided by UI

2022-05-29 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command only once, as it
will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 1976177

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

Please note, if this is not Ubuntu official media, the report will
likely be closed as invalid, as it should be filed with the creator of
the non-Ubuntu media.

[Bug 1976180] [NEW] nagstamon should depend on 'python3-dateutil'

2022-05-29 Thread Daniel von Obernitz
Public bug reported:

Dear Maintainers,

I tested with Ubuntu 22.04 LTS and nagstamon 3.8.0-1.

In case the 'python3-dateutil' package is missing on a system 'nagstamon' won't
start.
The error message is accordingly a:

ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'dateutil'.

'python3-dateutil' does exist per default on Ubuntu but by removing some
unwanted default features it happened that 'python3-dateutil' has been
removed as well while cleaning up dependencies.

Since 'python3-dateutil' is mandatory to run 'nagstamon' it should be
listed in its dependencies.

Best regards
Daniel

When I print, I see a small blinking of the lcd display of CANON MX
