[Bug 2051720]

2024-04-09 Thread wt
Does this have any relation to the message I am seeing in the journal
logs after warm boot? Namely this:

Bluetooth: hci0: command 0xfc00 tx timeout

I can confirm that I still get this message on a mainline kernel build.

I have started a thread on linux-bluetooth with the subject "QCA6390
bluetooth doesn't work after warm boot or disable/reenable" if that
helps.

2024-04-09 Thread nickolas
Yeah, I turn my PC off every night. Have turned it on from a cold power
off every morning for the last year or so this hasn't been working. That
doesn't help at all, the only thing that works to get Bluetooth working
after boot is running the script I showed in a previous comment.

make sure you do full "power on - power off - power on" cycle **with
fixed kernel**, it's known that warm boot or older kernel somewhere in
this cycle prevent Bluetooth to recover.

Can confirm. Upgraded kernel to 6.8.4-arch1-1, removed btusb from the
module loading blacklist, powered-off the PC and powering it on again,
bluetooth was working.

Tried several things such as rebooting, rebooting on my Windows drive,
rebooting to Archlinux again, powering-off: no power-off hanging, and
bluetooth was working immediately after each start-up, without having to
deal with modprobe anyhow.

2024-04-09 Thread Egmont Koblinger

Exactly.

> I don't know whether those changes were backported to Ubuntu 22.04,
which ships Gnome 42.

They weren't, and almost certainly won't be.

> the graphs are only talking about lag in the neighborhood of 40-50ms,
which is probably just barely perceptible.

Exactly. If anyone's having latency problems big enough that make them
follow this bug and try mutter packages from a PPA, then upgrading the
terminal won't fix them.

[Bug 2060762] [NEW] Yaru cursor theme is different at windows created by GNOME Core applications

2024-04-09 Thread Zalán Hári
Public bug reported:

I am using Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. When I hover over windows created by
Nautilus, GNOME Maps, Epiphany etc. (Evolution is OK), the cursor
becomes extremely huge. I have attached screenshots showing the change.
Zenity has the same problem. I know: it is a bit humorous that I report
bugs with the cursor in the middle of that thing with XZ, but it can be
fixed in 24.04.1 or even before the final freeze.

[Bug 1916897] Re: [SRU] Center windows option has no effect

2024-04-09 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Hello Nguyễn, or anyone else affected,

Accepted obconf-qt into jammy-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/obconf-
qt/0.16.0-1ubuntu2 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
jammy to verification-done-jammy. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-jammy. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 2059847] Re: Input lag or freezes on Nvidia desktops with X11 after logging "MetaSyncRing: Sync object is not ready -- were events handled properly?"

2024-04-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I'd like to resolve any confusion from the last 10 comments or so. This
bug is only for people who have "MetaSyncRing" messages in their system
log:

  journalctl -b0 | grep MetaSyncRing

like:

Window manager warning: MetaSyncRing: Sync object is not ready -- were events
handled properly?
Window manager warning: MetaSyncRing: Sync object is not ready -- were events
handled properly?
Window manager warning: MetaSyncRing: Sync object is not ready -- were events
handled properly?
Window manager warning: MetaSyncRing: Too many reboots -- disabling

If you don't have any MetaSyncRing messages then please open new bugs.

** Summary changed:

** Description changed:

  [ Impact ]

Input or the entire screen may freeze at times on systems using the
  Nvidia Xorg driver with GNOME.

  [ Test Plan ]

  0. Set up a desktop with Nvidia driver 545 or 550.
  1. Log into Ubuntu, ensuring it's a Xorg session.
  2. Open a Terminal, resize it vigorously, and type several lines of text.
- 3. Verify that input never froze for any perceptible period of time.
- 4. Run: journalctl -b0 | grep MetaSyncRing
- 5. Verify the above command does NOT show messages such as:

[ Where problems could occur ]

Anywhere in Nvidia (proprietary driver) Xorg sessions since the code
being modified is only used with that driver.

  [ Original Description ]

There is a noticeable delay in input while using the native terminal. I
belive it was caused by a recent software update, as this issue is
  relatively new.

Re: [Bug 2060736] Re: After update, Login no longer works after waking from 'systemctl suspend'

2024-04-09 Thread John Grady
Sorry for the delay.  I had to find an external keyboard and a usb-c
adapter.

I can connect the external keyboard and switch it in and out ad-hoc and
my laptop keyboard and the external keyboard both work fine.  So base
case is good.

I can suspend the computer with the laptop keyboard and, upon waking,
the laptop keyboard does not type characters into the password box.
Then I connect the external keyboard and I CAN enter the password and
get to the desktop.
Once I disconnect the external keyboard the laptop's keyboard still does
not enter characters at the command prompt (after logging in with the
external keyboard after waking up after a suspend).
I reconnect the external keyboard and I can then resume working.

It appears that suspending the laptop somehow is disabling the laptop's
keyboard.

Note that the functionality of the laptop's mouse is unaffected.

I hope this helps,
John

If there's any other tests you'd like me to run, please let me know.
(but I won't be able to run them until tomorrow morning.)

[Bug 2060755] Re: grub fails when trying to install ubuntu 2020.04

2024-04-09 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be
a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the
support tracker.

We understand the difficulties you are facing, but it is better to raise
problems you are having in the support tracker at
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are
bugs.

If you would prefer live chat support, you can find an IRC support
channel for your flavor of Ubuntu here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/IRC/ChannelList.

You can also find help with your problem in the support forum of your
local Ubuntu community http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at
https://askubuntu.com or https://ubuntuforums.org. For help on reporting
bugs, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs.

(FYI: PPAs are Personal Package Archives and not supported by the
Ubuntu project, but by the PPA owner. Bugs/requests about PPAs should
likewise be filed with the PPA owner).

[Bug 2060458] Re: ARMSOC(0): [DRI2] DRI2SwapBuffers: driver failed to schedule swap

2024-04-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Any message with (WW) or (EE) means you're still using Xorg, not
Wayland.

Switching a Xilinx system to Wayland used to be a manual process as
mentioned in bug 1961563. I was just hoping it had been simplified since
then. I don't know because I had to return the hardware before Wayland
support ever made it into jammy updates.

patches to Focal and keeps said package available in the PPA for his TLP

[Bug 2059847] Re: Input lag or freezes on Nvidia desktops with X11

2024-04-09 Thread Nathan Bryant
Upstream Gnome 46 made a lot of changes recently to improve performance
and input lag in Gnome-Terminal. Those changes are separate from this
bug. I don't know whether those changes were backported to Ubuntu 22.04,
which ships Gnome 42. That's a question for Daniel or someone else at
Canonical.

See https://bxt.rs/blog/just-how-much-faster-are-the-gnome-46-terminals/
and note that the graphs are only talking about lag in the neighborhood
of 40-50ms, which is probably just barely perceptible.

[Bug 2060753] [NEW] mailman3-web needs DEFAULT_AUTO_FIELD setting

2024-04-09 Thread Marco van Zwetselaar
Public bug reported:

Installation of mail3man-web (0+20200530-2.1) in mantic produces a list
of 14 warnings that look like this:

WARNINGS:
django_mailman3.MailDomain: (models.W042) Auto-created primary key used
when not defining a primary key type, by default 'django.db.models.AutoField'.
HINT: Configure the DEFAULT_AUTO_FIELD setting or the
DjangoMailman3Config.default_auto_field attribute to point to a subclass of
AutoField, e.g. 'django.db.models.BigAutoField'.

This would only be a minor nuisance, except that the application sends
this list of warnings in an email to the site administrator _once every
minute_.

The issue can be resolved by adding this line to
/usr/share/mailman3-web/settings.py (patch attached):

DEFAULT_AUTO_FIELD='django.db.models.AutoField'

[Bug 2060291] Re: [Intel N95] Horizontal line artifact/ghosting when scaling windows to a certain width

2024-04-09 Thread Abram Wiebe
Seems to not happen with items built with Qt. but is definitely
happening with gedit, and system, nautilus, calclator and modal file
window. It does not appear to be transient because I can open and close
calculator and it will still happen. I don't know if that means it's a
problem with gtk, or gnome. But from my loose understanding of Linux
GUI development it seems to be restricted to apps likely built with the
same widget toolkit.

[Bug 1597017] Please test proposed package

2024-04-09 Thread Brian Murray
Hello John, or anyone else affected,

Accepted apparmor into focal-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apparmor/2.13.3-7ubuntu5.4 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
focal to verification-done-focal. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-focal.

[Bug 1597017] Re: mount rules grant excessive permissions

2024-04-09 Thread Brian Murray
Hello John, or anyone else affected,

Accepted apparmor into jammy-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apparmor/3.0.4-2ubuntu2.4 in a few
hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
jammy to verification-done-jammy.

** Description changed:

SRU Team; the packages for focal-proposed and jammy-proposed are
intended as security updates prepared by the Ubuntu Security team (and
have built in a ppa with only the security pockets enabled). However,
because the fix makes mount rules in apparmor policy be treated more
restrictively than they were prior to this update, we would like these
packages to gain more widespread testing.

  Risk of Regression:

The update for this issue causes the apparmor parser, the tool that
translates written policy into the enforcement data structures used by
the kernel, to generate more strict policy for mount rules, like the
example below. They are not common in apparmor policy generally, but can
appear in policies written for container managers to restrict
containers, and thus can potentially break container startup.

The packages prepared for focal-proposed and jammy-proposed have tested
with the versions of snapd, lxc, libvirt, and docker in the ubuntu
- archive, but conainter managers outside of the ubunty archive may run
+ archive, but container managers outside of the ubuntu archive may run
into issues, hence the need for testing and policy adjustments.

  Original Report:

  The rule
    mount options=(rw,make-slave) -> **,

  ends up allowing
    mount -t proc proc /mnt

which it shouldn't as it should be restricted to commands with a make-
  slave flag

[Bug 2059157] Re: proposed-migration for cups 2.4.7-1.2ubuntu1

2024-04-09 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package c2esp - 27-11ubuntu7

---
c2esp (27-11ubuntu7) noble; urgency=medium

  * Made c2esp working on both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures with
64-bit time_t in both cases (LP: #2059157, LP: #2059281):
- Removed any logging of times in raw (seconds after the epoch) format
as for (64-bit) time_t different integer variable types are used on
32-bit/64-bit architectures. Also the log lines land in CUPS' error_log
which adds human-readable time stamps to each line.
- In printer keep-alive functions use time_t (and NOT int) for all
  variables used for time calculations.
