[Bug 2062562] Re: Keyboard not working after resume from suspend on Dell XPS 13 laptop

2024-04-25 Thread Sebastian Podjasek
That previous comment was false-positive, I was probably still booted to
6.5.0-26 and on 6.5.0-28 this bug is still present. After resume from
suspend in 6.5.0-28 keyboard is not-responsive.

[Bug 2061708] Re: Yubikey stopped working after noble upgrade

2024-04-25 Thread Julian Andres Klode
I don't recommend running with pcscd, it's much more stable to run with
direct access, but I do not know why it doesn't seem to work for you, it
certainly does for me.

It failing with pcscd is nice, it not telling us why and how to fix it
is bad UX though.

[Bug 2063547] [NEW] Deprecated locale.format() in indicator.py

2024-04-25 Thread Peter Kokot
Public bug reported:

System: Ubuntu: 24.04

The locale.format() function has been deprecated in Python 3.7 and
removed in 3.12. Instead locale.format_string() can be used in the
indicator.py file by a simple rename. Otherwise this error occurs when
launching indicator-cpufreq:

[Bug 2060727] Re: The keyboard does not work after latest kernel update

2024-04-25 Thread Atlas Yu
I tested linux-image-6.5.0-1021-oem on ThinkPad L15 Gen4 with 10 boots(20
suspends/resumes for each boot).
Cannot reproduce this bug anyway, considered fixed.

---
To: Aussems J.a.c. (ramcsir)
To: Ganton (ganton)

The SKU we hold here, rarely reproduces this issue on the previous
kernels, we would be much appreciated if you can help to verify the fix
as well according to #20 and #22.

[Bug 2063452] Re: Xorg freeze

It looks like the kernel ran out of memory and the main culprit is a
'java' process. This is not an Ubuntu bug.

[Bug 2063501] Re: Sometimes gnome-shell crash upon unlocking session from suspension

2024-04-25 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To
help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps:

1. Run these commands:
journalctl -b0 > journal.txt
journalctl -b-1 > prevjournal.txt
and attach the resulting text files here.

2. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

3. If step 2 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 2063520] Re: GTK4/Libadwaita Renders with missing characters

2024-04-25 Thread Hinomori Shizuku

+ Before updating to Ubuntu 24.04, I do sudo apt upgrade to update my packages
on Ubuntu 23.10 first.
+ [UPDATE] Updating to Ubuntu 24.04 DO NOT SOLVE THIS PROBLEM

Then I found that every program in GTK4/Libadwaita renders with missing
characters, even gdm (I cannot take a screenshot of gdm, but the
  problems are the same).

I toggled "Antialising" in GNOME tweaks, and some characters return
TEMPORARILY. Then I opened a new GTK4/Libadwaita program, problems re-
  occur.

AND I FOUND THAT the "Graphics" Section (the driver name) has been
changed to "AMD Readon 680M" after the update (I think it is something
like "AMD Rembrandt" before sudo apt upgrade). (I toggled in GNOME
tweaks to make the window display graphics info; if I re-open it, fonts
  will be missing again)

If I hover on the place where text should display, some texts may
  display but icons would not.

This problem affects my life qualify, thus I need to make clear where it
is the problem. GTK4? Libadwaita? Graphics? Ubuntu? Because problems
does not occur on GTK3 based apps, thus I can submit this issue in
  Firefox.

[Bug 2061228] Re: Upgrading Ubuntu Jammy to Ubuntu Noble fails with error message

2024-04-25 Thread Vale
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 2054761 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2054761

Same issue here.

After dpkg --configure -a in recovery mode I was able to boot normally,
however no domain names could be resolved. Turns out systemd-resolved
was uninstalled. Installing it back at least got DNS back working.

I have no idea what might be broken by this or even how to check if
something is left dangling.

[Bug 2063397] Re: extracting rar archives sometime incomplete

2024-04-25 Thread Jurgen Schellaert
I have tried to create an archive of my own to reproduce the problem. I
think I have succeeded.

Check the included archive, which contains:
- 10 folders containing 10 (empty) text files
- a zip archive containing a single file filled with some data gleaned from
/dev/random

observation:
- trying to inspect the contents with file-roller causes file-roller to crash
- extracting the file extracts only the contents of the zip archive (compare:
extraction from the CLI with rar e)

more observations:
- I had to compress from the command line (with the rar utility) as nautilus
consistently crashes if I try to compress through the context menu ("compress")
- the issue appears to match this report on reddit:
https://www.reddit.com/r/gnome/comments/1btxk69/nautilus_crashing_when_selecting_multiple_files/

[Bug 2063520] [NEW] GTK4/Libadwaita Renders with missing characters

2024-04-25 Thread Hinomori Shizuku
Public bug reported:

Before updating to Ubuntu 24.04, I do sudo apt upgrade to update my
packages on Ubuntu 23.10 first.

GTK4? Libadwaita? Graphics? Ubuntu? Because problems
does not occur on GTK3 based apps, thus I can submit this issue in
Firefox.

I tried to open GNOME Calendar and use journalctl to capture logs

[Bug 2063476] Re: libwebkit2gtk-4.0.so.37: undefined symbol: gbm_bo_create_with_modifiers2

2024-04-25 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Ok, this was introduced upstream somewhere between 2.36.0 (jammy
release) and 2.44.0 (jammy-updates). webkit2gtk now detects whether
gbm_bo_create_with_modifiers2 exists at build time; if so, it uses them.

This is not a problem for the main archive, as the libgbm that mesa
provides includes those symbols, but some proprietary drivers include
their own libgbm (notably, here, the ARM MALI drivers) and this change
has accidentally and silently broken the effective driver ABI for Ubuntu
22.04.

In this case here it seems like it will be easy enough to patch the code
to dynamically resolve gbm_bo_create_with_modifiers2 - the upstream code
already has an implementation for where this is not available at build
time.

That's not an archive-wide solution, though. It's not *entirely* obvious
to me whether this should be considered an SRU regression - I'm inclined
to think so, but I don't hold that opinion strongly. I'll take the
temperature of the SRU team on this.

[Bug 2063513] Re: torbrowser unusable - not accepting keyboard input

2024-04-25 Thread John Johansen
Unless there are other denials, this is not related to bug #2046844

Try adding the following rule to the torbrowser_firefox profile

  allow rw /run/dbus/system_bus_socket,

and then reloading it with either
  sudo systemctl reload apparmor

or by using
  sudo apparmor_parser -r /path/to/torbrowser_firefox_profile

where /path/to/torbrowser_firefox_profile which is likely in
/etc/apparmor.d/

[Bug 2062967] Re: ubuntu-drivers no longer offers nvidia 550 drivers

2024-04-25 Thread Alexander
Update: I just upgraded to Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and still no 550 drivers
available. Before upgrading to 24.04 I tried installing the driver
version 545 on Ubuntu 23.10 via the driver tool and immediately got hit
by a dependency error and at some point the installation just froze. I
decided to install 24.04 freshly from scratch after this.

Nvidia driver installation really has to be worked on when installing
via the additional drivers tool. It's lacking newer drivers and it's too
unstable when doing anything above the tested driver set.

[Bug 2060748] Re: iwlwifi error popping up every few minutes in Kubuntu 23.10 using Intel AX210 card

2024-04-25 Thread Jess Ferments
I just went ahead last night and updated to Ubuntu 24.04 with `do-
release-upgrade -d` and it seems that this most of the iwlwifi errors
are no longer popping up with the 6.8 kernel. Specifically, I am no
longer getting the "Microcode SW error detected." and "api flags index 2
larger than supported by driver"

The only error I'm still getting for iwlwifi with 6.8 kernel is "WRT:
Invalid buffer destination"

[Bug 2063252] Re: warning: option 'size' missing for zfs encryption install

2024-04-25 Thread Dan Bungert
As a workaround, updating /etc/crypttab to have the following options in
the 4th column of the dm_crypt swap device should silence the warning:

swap,initramfs,size=256,cipher=aes-cbc-essiv:sha256,plain

It's also required to `update-initramfs -u` after updating crypttab.

[Bug 2055012] Re: When I upgraded from 22.04 to 24.04, DNS resolution went wrong.

2024-04-25 Thread Mahboob Karimian
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 2054761 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2054761

I had UI crash during upgrade from jammy. I had to go to recovery mode and run
dpkg.
I confirm sudo apt install systemd-resolved resolves the problem.
But the upgrade is not recommended as you may encounter unfinished upgrade and
gnome shell crash.

[Bug 2063511] [NEW] Ubuntu 24.04 can't run HoMM3 HotA (Wine 9.0)

2024-04-25 Thread Ilya Kasnacheev
Public bug reported:

~/Games/Homm3HotA% wine HD_Launcher
0128:err:module:loader_init "_hd3_.dll" failed to initialize, aborting
0128:err:module:loader_init Initializing dlls for
L"Z:\\home\\ilyak\\Games\\Homm3HotA\\h3hota HD.exe" failed, status c005
% wine --version
wine-9.0 (Ubuntu 9.0~repack-4build3)

That's the gist of it. Launcher runs but game won't play with the error
above. Non-HD h3hota.exe will also GPF immediately. What's surprising
that every other Wine version that I've tried (via playonlinux) will of
course run HotA just fine (it's an old, mature project) and previous
Ubuntu 23.10 also ran HotA just fine.

% ~/.PlayOnLinux/wine/linux-x86/9.0/bin/wine HD_Launcher
# Runs fine

Perhaps I don't have winemono installed (that's the first thing
playonlinux does), but it was working before the dist-upgrade and there
is no apparent way to install it. Maybe there is any other kind of wine
misconfiguration, but provided that I've just done a dist upgrade from
23.10, and it was running fine there, I consider that a regression.

HoMM3 HotA is obtainable at https://h3hota.com/en/download for the
curious.

[Bug 2063369] Re: e2image reports invalid argument when used with big partitions

2024-04-25 Thread Jaromír Cápík
Oh, sorry, I thought the limit cannot be reached that easy in case of
sparse files full of unalocated blocks. Apparently the limit includes
the unallocated space.

I retested that again and the sparse file really gets truncated to 16TB
and I believe that's exactly the moment when the tool should report some
error like: "Unable to create sparse file of that size! Unsupported by
the target filesystem."

Instead of that the tool continues to extract data and after a long time
it fails with Invalid argument.

To prevent confusion, would it be possible to modify the code to make it
fail immediately when it fails to create the sparse file of the required
size?

Thank you.

[Bug 2058622] Re: [needs-packaging] lenovo-wwan-unlock

2024-04-25 Thread Lucas Kanashiro
Hi Dirk Su,

I cloned the git repo and for instance the debian/changelog is
confusing, there are many entries which makes me think that this package
is already maintained somewhere else, is this maintained in a PPA and
now you are trying to put it in the Ubuntu archive? When the package is
landing for the first time in the Ubuntu archive we usually have just a
single changelog entry.

The version string you are using does not seem correct. Right now, I see
version 1.2ubuntu3. This version string could be used for a native
package (something Ubuntu specific), but I see this a project from
Lenovo and it is maintained here:

https://github.com/lenovo/lenovo-wwan-unlock

I'd expect a version similar to 2.0.0-0ubuntu1 (version 2.0.0 was
releases 2 weeks ago in the repo above). So before the '-' we have the
upstream version. And after that, we have the Debian revision, since
this package is not in Debian, just in Ubuntu, we use '0ubuntu1'.

I did not read the proprietary license of this software, but in
debian/copyright you are using the GPL-3 license for the debian
directory. Could you make sure this is OK?

I am also unsure how to generate the tarball for this version, due to
that I was not able to build the package and run lintian for instance.
However, I think you already have something to work on. I am
unsubscribing ~ubuntu-sponsors for now. Once you address the issues
presented above subscribe ~ubuntu-sponsors again.

[Bug 2056442] Re: Podman (crun) regression in Ubuntu 22.04: OCI runtime error: chmod `run/shm`: Operation not supported

2024-04-25 Thread Andreas Hasenack
There was no clear indication which running kernel was used during the
verifications, so I did it:

Using the Dockerfile from the test plan:
FROM ubuntu:noble
RUN apt install -U systemd -y
CMD ["/lib/systemd/systemd"]

And building with "podman build -t systemd ."

a) 5.15.0-105 kernel (jammy GA kernel)
crun 0.17+dfsg-1.1 from jammy fails (odd, I thought it was unaffected):

$ podman run --systemd always systemd
Error: OCI runtime error: chmod `run/shm`: Operation not supported

crun 0.17+dfsg-1.1ubuntu0.1 from jammy-proposed works:

$ podman run --systemd always systemd
(nothing here)

In a separate terminal we can see it's running:
$ podman ps
CONTAINER ID IMAGE COMMAND CREATED
STATUS PORTS NAMES
b2decb3d2820 localhost/systemd:latest /lib/systemd/syst... 34 seconds ago
Up 34 seconds ago flamboyant_hertz

b) Jammy HWE kernel
$ uname -r
6.5.0-34-generic

crun 0.17+dfsg-1.1 from jammy fails:
$ podman run --systemd always systemd
Error: OCI runtime error: chmod `run/shm`: Operation not supported

crun 0.17+dfsg-1.1ubuntu0.1 from jammy-proposed works:
$ podman run --systemd always systemd
(nothing here)

In another terminal:
$ podman ps
CONTAINER ID IMAGE COMMAND CREATED
STATUSPORTS NAMES
867d113be7a3 localhost/systemd:latest /lib/systemd/syst... 2 seconds ago Up

Sorry if this is a bit long, but trying to include info to help debug
the issue.

Well, it has finally happened again... It seems like the script hasn't
really helped... But I'll have to try it again next time this happens to
determine what, if any, role it had. So far it looks like it hasn't
helped.

I was able to get my sound working by running this: "killall pipewire-
pulse" and quitting/killing audacious (audacious usually but not always
hangs when this starts happening), and quitting firefox, thought not
necessarily in that order?

But even that isn't enough to completely fix it. Likely, it would come
back as soon as I start playing audio from more than one application at
a time.

When playing audio from another application, it would work for a few
seconds, and then one of the applications would stop working. Almost
like the audio device had become usable by one application at a time
(like in the early ALSA days prior to pulseaudio becoming common). And
probably if I stopped the other application, it usually wouldn't stop
working again until repeating the above steps.

But playing with it some more (with both quitting applications, killing
pipewire-pulse over and over), I was eventually able to get audio to
consistently work again (ie, normally) for about the last 30 minutes or
so.

I tried logging out and back at one point... That didn't seem to fix it
either. It wasn't until several (or a bunch more) killing pipewire-
pulse, restarting firefox and audacious a few times (I could try other
software too!) that it started working again.

I'm leaning toward this being a pipewire-pulse issue at this point...
but it's possible that there's a driver issue that causes pipewise-pulse
becoming wedged, and that running tas2781-2dev-on.sh and killing
pipewise-pulse I'm eventually able to get things into a good state.

If this happens again, I will conduct more testing... And I say if,
because I think Ubuntu 24.04 is out today, and if it is... I will likely
upgrade. If this is a software issue, good chance 24.04 won't have this
problem. I'll report back with my results either way.

Anyone else tried killing pipewire-pulse when having issues?

I didn't see any sort of run away processes, I simply did "ps paux |
grep pulse" and that was the only process that showed up so I tried
killing it. It was just a guess from remembering all the early
pulseaudio issues from over a decade ago. :D

Here's my info for convenience:
Kernel 6.8.7
Kubuntu 23.10
Running with KDE+Wayland

My pipewire-pulse info:

apt policy pipewire-pulse
pipewire-pulse:
  Installed: 0.3.79-2
  Candidate: 0.3.79-2
  Version table:
 *** 0.3.79-2 500
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu mantic/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I didn't have this problem with the older kernel 6.7.x series, but maybe
there was a pipewire-pulse update that happened? Or and update to a
package it depends on?

Finally, I've attached the requested dmesg output. My audio problems
started after 10:30 (maybe around 10:40-ish?) and my audio had been
completely working for around 15 minutes as of the time I'd captured
that dmesg output. Seems like nothing really relevant, but maybe there's
something helpful?

[Bug 2054391] Re: Fix CPU thermal sensors enumeration

2024-04-25 Thread Lucas Kanashiro
Thanks for the patch @Kai-Heng! I took a look and in general it looks
good, but I'd like to ask you to add some DEP-3 headers [1] to your
patch, that will give us (packagers) more context when revisiting this
package for whatever reason.

Now a personal opinion, I like when the patch file name is listed in the
changelog entry ("* d/p/0016-Fixed-enumeration-of-cpu-thermal-
sensors.patch: "). It makes a direct link between
the change listed there and the file actually fixing it.

Once you address my first comment at least (the second one is not
mandatory), please subscribe ~ubuntu-sponsors again (I am unsubscribing
it now).

[Bug 2063495] Re: Kernel soft lockup occures in `fib6_select_path` function

2024-04-25 Thread Omid
** Description changed:

We operate a Linux-based cluster of edge routers within a highly dynamic
setting where BGP-advertised routes constantly evolve due to new next
hop destinations frequently appearing and disappearing. In areas
experiencing significant IPv6 traffic, we periodically face kernel soft
lockups. Upon investigation, these lockups seem to occur during the
traversal of the multipath circular linked-list, for finding the optimal
path, in the fib6_select_path function, specifically while iterating
through the siblings in the multipath linked-list. The problem typically
- arises when the linked list is unexpectedly deleted (its reference count
- reaches zero), leading to an infinite loop. This results in a soft
- lockup that, if not resolved, triggers a system panic due to the
- watchdog timer.
+ arises when the linked list is unexpectedly deleted (its head eference
+ count equals zero), leading to an infinite loop. This results in a soft
+ lockup that triggers a system panic due to the watchdog timer.

It's worth noting that this is a longstanding issue we've been dealing
with for about a year. Despite switching between different kernel
  versions, the problem persists.
