[Bug 2064689] [NEW] Fix inaudible HDMI/DP audio on USB-C MST dock

2024-05-02 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
HDMI/DP audio isn't working on Dell's USB-C dock.

[Fix]
Leave Maud/Naud as is, since the hardware programmed the right value
already.

[Test]
HDMI/DP audio always comes out from the USB-C dock after the fix is
applied.

[Where problems could occur]
The commits affects _all_ HDMI/DP audio that connects to Intel GFX. So
all of them are affected hence the regression risk isn't low.

Therefore let the commit sits in OEM kernel first. Stable kernels can
pull in this fix after it's getting thoroughly tested.

[Bug 2064685] Re: write says write: effective gid does not match group of /dev/pts/5

2024-05-02 Thread Robert Dinse
This does not really fix security because one aspect of security is
availability to legitimate users and this breaks the latter. Seems
there are better ways to fix such as restricting what this can write to
with apparmor? Or just fixing the coding so it does parse the input
more carefully.

[Bug 2064688] Re: Merge nbd from Debian unstable for oracular

2024-05-02 Thread Mitchell Dzurick
Whoops, the fix is in debian experimental, we might need to wait for a
new unstable release to happen.

[Bug 2064687] Re: Add Oracular as a known Ubuntu distribution, make Debian and Ubuntu codenames current

2024-05-02 Thread Simon Quigley
** Summary changed:

- Add Oracular as a known Ubuntu distribution
+ Add Oracular as a known Ubuntu distribution, make Debian and Ubuntu codenames
current

** Description changed:

In several stable releases of Ubuntu, Vim needs accurate information
- about Ubuntu codenames. This information should be aligned with what is

+ about Ubuntu and Debian codenames. This information should be aligned
+ with what is in distro-info-data.

There is a minimal regression potential here; Vim simply reads a
statically-set Perl array to determine if the release in the changelog
and sources.list is supported or not. Any regression would present
itself in external tooling that detects text highlighting, which is not
a case I think we support in Ubuntu.

A simple way to test this update is to download a package from the
Oracular archive, and open the changelog with Vim. Instead of the
changelog release (e.g. "oracular") showing as red, it should show as
blue. I would also suggest editing sources.list, to ensure e.g. Kinetic
  shows as EOL.

[Bug 2060745] Re: nbd-client fails to connect Error: Socket failed: Connection refused

2024-05-02 Thread Mitchell Dzurick
Thanks Andreas!

Regarding comment #3

a) debian version has this fix, and quite a few updates to the debian/*
directory, so I think we might as well do an early oracular merge to get
that fix in.

B) I'm curious why the excuses page didn't pick up those autopkgtests
during the sync?

[Bug 2055776] Re: After updating ubuntu, the network to which the subnet address is assigned does not become active in KVM.

2024-05-02 Thread Seth Arnold
Two different services attempting to bind on a single (IP, port) tuple
is going to lead to a failure of one of the services. Prior to this
update it was a silent failure, which serves only to make debugging
problems more difficult.

I can empathize with the feeling that things shouldn't break in an LTS
release, but it was quietly broken already.

Thanks

2024-05-02 Thread Seth Arnold
Hello Spencer, thanks for the report. This is pretty common with
programs that provide a more "interactive" experience. There's two tools
that can help recover from this, reset(1) and stty(1). When this
happens, run:

reset
or
stty sane

Both should fix this specific case. But sometimes one or the other one
is required to fix your terminal, so it's helpful to know both of them.

Thanks

[Bug 2040459] Re: MRE updates of bind9 for noble

2024-05-02 Thread Andreas Hasenack
Hello Bryce, or anyone else affected,

Accepted bind-dyndb-ldap into jammy-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bind-dyndb-
ldap/11.9-5ubuntu0.22.04.7 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
jammy to verification-done-jammy. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-jammy. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

[Bug 2064037] Re: GDM session crashes after returning from a screen-off.

2024-05-02 Thread Jon Crall
I made an interesting observation. If I unplug all bug one monitor (I
have been using 3 in tests up until now), the crash does not occur in
X11. I have not tried wayland yet.

I'm going to plug in a second monitor to check if it happens with 2, and
then verify that it still occurs with 3.

My locale is lt_LT.UTF-8, which is relevant.

This is caused by a mistaken translation of the quote characters in
"'24h'" which is used as the default value for a particular gsettings
key. Specifically, this translation:
https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/noble/+source/gsettings-
desktop-schemas/+pots/gsettings-desktop-schemas/lt/232/+translate.

Since I'm a member of the Lithuanian translators team, I've fixed the
translation error in translations.launchpad.net, but my gnome-shell will
continue to spam multiple errors every second until an updated language-
pack-gnome-lt-base is released.

(I've also submitted a fixed translation upstream to l10n.gnome.org.)

Workaround: run dconf-editor, find /org/gnome/desktop/interface/clock-
format, uncheck Use default value, click Apply.

[Bug 2064667] [NEW] [SRU] libreoffice 24.2.3 for noble

2024-05-02 Thread Rico Tzschichholz
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

 * LibreOffice 24.2.3 is in its third bugfix release of the 24.2 line:
 https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan/24.2#24.2.3_release

 * Version 24.2.2 is currently released in noble. For a list of fixed bugs
compared to 24.2.2 see the list of bugs fixed in the release candidates of
24.2.3 (that's a total of 79 bugs):
 https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/24.2.3/RC1#List_of_fixed_bugs
 https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Releases/24.2.3/RC2#List_of_fixed_bugs

24.2.3 RC2 is identical to the 24.2.3 release

 * Given the nature of the project, the complexity of the codebase and
the high level of quality assurance upstream, it is preferable to SRU a
minor release rather than cherry-pick selected bug fixes.

[Testing]

 * Upstream testing. Bugs fixed upstream typically include
unit/regression tests, and the release itself is extensively exercised
(both in an automated manner and manually).

  * A recent set of upstream's automated jenkins testing can be found here:
https://ci.libreoffice.org/job/gerrit_242/972/

  * More information about the upstream QA testing can be found here:
* Automated tests
  https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Automated_Tests
* Automated UI tests
  https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Development/UITests
* Regression tests
  https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Regression_Tests
* Feature tests
  https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA/Testing/Feature_Tests

 * Launchpad testing. The libreoffice packages include autopkgtests that were
run and verified as passing.
Tested build can be found at
https://launchpad.net/~libreoffice/+archive/ubuntu/libreoffice-prereleases/+sourcepub/16035348/+listing-archive-extra
* [amd64] ...
* [arm64] ...
* [armhf] ...
* [ppc64el] ...
* [riscv64] not available
* [s390x] ...
 * General smoke testing of all the applications in the office suite were
carried out by going through the manual testplan as documented by:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Process/Merges/TestPlans/libreoffice

[Regression Potential]

 * A minor release with a total of 79 bug fixes always carries the
potential for introducing regressions, even though it is a bugfix-only
release, meaning that no new features were added, and no existing
features were removed.

 * A combination of autopkgtests and careful smoke testing as described
above should provide reasonable confidence that no regressions sneaked
in.

to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been

please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-jammy.

[Bug 2064139] Re: not building for arm64, armhf, ppc64el, riscv64, s390x

It indeed looks like an issue (but it is not :p). After discussion with
the Server team, we will leave it like this in Noble (there is no
regression), and in OO series we will revisit the usage of a build
profile to not build the runc binary package.

Please also confirm, via the test plan, that if the image has the snap
deb installed, that the snaps will be upgraded, i.e., that we don't
break the normal use case with canonical images.

[Bug 2064679] Re: Ubuntu Desktop 24.04 installation: wrong lvm sizing

2024-05-02 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on
Libera.chat.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/2064679/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 2064122] Re: package mysql-server-8.0 8.0.36-0ubuntu0.22.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: installed mysql-server-8.0 package post-installation script subprocess returned error exit status 1

2024-05-02 Thread Lucas Kanashiro
Thanks for your time reporting this bug and trying to make Ubuntu
better.

I see the mysql-server is installed alongside mysql-workbench-community
(which is not in the Ubuntu archive and is not supported), this
interaction is untested and might pose you some unexpected behavior.

The mysql error log is not helpful because the important lines were
removed by apport:

--- Line containing protected term grant stripped from log by apport hook. Ref.
Launchpad bug #1574458

Could you please manually check what that line is telling you and share
with us? Of course, without any confidential data.

Unfortunately, I cannot reproduce this bug locally, more info is needed.

Right now there is nothing to do since we up to date with Debian.

If we want to update it, we will need to either wait to see if Debian
updates during OO development, or pull from upstream which does publish
deb files.

Hello Chad, or anyone else affected,

Accepted cloud-init into noble-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cloud-
init/24.1.3-0ubuntu3.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See

to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
noble to verification-done-noble. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-noble. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at

advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in

[Bug 2063447] Re: netavark fails to build

2024-05-02 Thread Jeremy Bícha
This SRU is currently blocked because the update fails to build on
ppc64el. There's an issue with the vendored rustix dependency:

error: could not find native static library `rustix_outline_powerpc64`

One way to handle this would be to attempt partial vendoring of only the
specific Rust crates we need to bypass the rust-zbus unavailability
issue. I don't have experience with partial vendoring yet. But it's been
done for qwertone and will probably be done for squeekboard soon.

[ Where problems could occur ]

There could still be more applications affected by the
restriction of the creation of unpriviliged user namespaces. They

[Bug 2028165] Re: nvidia-dkms-* FTBS with linux 6.5

2024-05-02 Thread Daniel Letzeisen
Bad news - I copied the packages I was using in my PPA to make
24.04/Noble packages, but they are broken (black screen /unbootable)
according to the reports I've received, and my own personal test with a
GTX950. The packages build successfully in the PPA, they install
correctly, the kernel modules build correctly, and the kernel modules
load correctly at boot, but Xorg and/or nvidia-smi are crashing.

If anyone has any ideas how to fix it, I'd appreciate it. If you want to
test the Noble packages, see:

move pam-related permissions to abstractions/authentication
(https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1220032)

[ Test Plan ]

This has been extensively tested via the AppArmor regression test
script in the QA Regression Testing repo:
https://git.launchpad.net/qa-regression-testing/tree/scripts/test-apparmor.py

This script runs various tests against the installed apparmor
package, as well as building and running the various upstream
regression and other test suites against this installed package:
  -
https://gitlab.com/apparmor/apparmor/-/tree/master/tests/regression/apparmor?ref_type=heads
  - https://gitlab.com/apparmor/apparmor/-/tree/master/utils/test?ref_type=heads
  - https://gitlab.com/apparmor/apparmor/-/tree/master/parser/tst?ref_type=heads
  -
https://gitlab.com/apparmor/apparmor/-/tree/master/libraries/libapparmor/testsuite?ref_type=heads

The final test output was:

--
Ran 62 tests in 1868.839s

OK (skipped=4)

[ Where problems could occur ]

There could still be more applications affected by the
restriction of the creation of unpriviliged user namespaces. They
might require the creation of new unconfined profiles which could
be mitigated in a later SRU.

[ Other Info ]

The SRU is available in:

[Bug 2064132] Please test proposed package

2024-05-02 Thread Andreas Hasenack
Hello Chad, or anyone else affected,

Accepted cloud-init into mantic-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cloud-
init/24.1.3-0ubuntu1~23.10.4 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
mantic to verification-done-mantic. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-mantic.

Hello Julian and all others.

You share here two possible summaries.

This possible explanation coincides best with my experience of 25 & 26
April 2024. There WAS a Kubuntu desktop. However, my upgrade attempts
revealed major problems that made the whole configuration unusable.

+ 22.04 to 23.10 upgrade fails, kubuntu-desktop is not installable.
>

May be, we can formulate it like this:
«()
When trying to upgrade from 22.04 to 23.10, the 23.10 kubuntu-desktop is
not installable.
(...)»

At some point, there were simply too many complications. That's why, I
decided to try a fresh install of Kubuntu 24.04 LTS. After a bit of
tweaking, trial and error, I DID manage to get started with it. About that,
I'll share another post and one more bug report.

Yours.
Bas.

[Bug 2064370] Re: Blank screen after boot in raspberry pi 4

2024-05-02 Thread Andre Ruiz
@Dave so I tested this in 4 other monitors and they all worked as
expected without the need for forcing hotplug.

@Juerg you could say it's a regression because it worked on that
specific monitor and now it does not work anymore, but it is now
understood what happend and the reason for that (there was a switch from
fkms to kms right before official release and all my other tests were
with daily builds which were not using kms yet). But since it still
works ok with all my other monitors I'm not sure how much it is a
regression or how much it is just a fault of my specific hardware.

Anyway, I'll test both kernels and let you know.

[Bug 2064510] Re: File manager hang up

2024-05-02 Thread Casio
Hi,
Sorry, although a technical expert my specific Linux knowledge is pretty rusty
as I've only just moved to using it full time on a desktop from Windows 11.
Once that error message appeared on screen I couldn't get rid of it, nor the
filemanager window that caused it. The launcher in the bottom right corner of
the screen worked and so did the bottom left filemanager icon because I
launched a 2nd new filemanager window but that too was non functional
immediately and unable to close as well. At that point I had to crash power
down the laptop as there wasn't much else I could do as even the power off
option in the top right corner of the screen didn't power off the system.
I could physically feel both USB hard drives heads were flapping away but that
may have been normal idle operation, or it may have been the rsync still trying
to copy files across (but since filemanager was stuffed I wasn't sure if it was
causing file system problems or not (hence the decision to crash power down
anyway). I don't know what journalctl is so i'll do a bit of reading up on that
next.

[Bug 2063983] Re: 24.04 Upgrade/Fresh Install results in black screen on reboot on AMDGPU system

2024-05-02 Thread Tom Reynolds
This is now a mix of maybe similar seeming, but likely different issues
with different root causes, also mixing AMD / Intel GPUs.

Anyone but twelfth (OP): Please remember to post separate / new bug
reports - not here. To file a bug, use "ubuntu-bug linux" if you expect
it to be about a packaged and supported Ubuntu Linux kernel.

I think this bug report should be closed unless twelfth can reproduce
the issue with a fresh 24.04 install and provide logs as indicated
above.

[Bug 2064670] [NEW] snapd fails after Kubuntu 24.04 install

2024-05-02 Thread Hadmut Danisch
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I was just installing a notebook with Kubuntu 24.04 install (which
recently worked well with 24.04 beta, but I replaced the SSD and wanted
to reinstall).

Problem:

snapd doesn't run properly, issues

last-occurrence: heute um 22:43 EEST
warning: |
seeding failed with: cannot use snap "krita": default provider
"kf5-5-113-qt-5-15-11-core22" or any alternative provider for content

distribution, please see https://forum.snapcraft.io/t/16341 for more
  information.

and I cannot even run ubuntu-bug on that machine, it says

error running snapctl: cannot invoke snapctl operation commands from
outside of a snap

but my guess is, that the problem is not the software or installation,
but some seed file, which is downloaded from whereever.

Systemd service snapd.seeded.service is still running (and obviously
waiting)

so it looks rather as a problem of the snap online services than of the
Kubuntu installation.

[Bug 2063952] Re: 22.04 to 23.10 upgrade fails, kubuntu-desktop is not installable.

2024-05-02 Thread Bas Roufs
Hello Julian and all others.

Op ma 29 apr. 2024 14:01 schreef Julian Andres Klode
<2063...@bugs.launchpad.net>:

** Summary changed:

Thanks for considering my bug report!

You share here two possible summaries.

- 22.04 to 23.10 upgrade fails to keep kubuntu-desktop installed

This possible explanation coincides best with my experience of 25 & 26 April
2024. There WAS a Kubuntu desktop. However, my upgrade attempts revealed major
problems that made the whole configuration unusable.

+ 22.04 to 23.10 upgrade fails, kubuntu-desktop is not installable.

May be, we can formulate it like this:
«()
When trying to upgrade from 22.04 to 23.10, the 23.10 kubuntu-desktop is not
installable.
(...)»

At some point, there were simply too many complications. That's why, I
decided to try a fresh install of Kubuntu 24.04 LTS. After a bit of
tweaking, trial and error, I DID manage to get started with it. About
that, I'll share another post and one more bug report.

Yours.
Bas.

[Bug 2064668] [NEW] Calamares/Kubuntu 24.04: Can't create encrypted LVM

2024-05-02 Thread Hadmut Danisch
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I was just trying to install Kubuntu 24.04 (which comes with Calamares)
on a Notebook with a brand new 1TB nvme SSD (all zeroed out).

Choosing the automatic/guided installation works well, including the
choice for encrypting the disk. But then, the whole disk is one ext4
partition, which doesn't work well with some applications (e.g. some
operations of LXD are extremely slow on ext4), and for some reasons I do
need ZFS on a partition of the disk.

I therefore chose manual partition, and created

- GPT partition table
- 300 MB FAT32, marked as bootable and mounted to /boot/efi (Calamares does not
offer an EFI flag)
- 4GiB ext4, mounted to /boot
- Rest of the disk: LUKS2

And then there is no option to put any kind of partition into the luks
partition.

You can't press "Next" either.

The only option is to create a new volume group (what I wanted to do
anyways). But there, no physical volume is available to put the volume
group in.

Calamares does not seem to recognize LUKS2 to contain a new partition
inside. It does not even ask for a password, and it looks as if luks is
just a menu entry that has never been implemented.

So it is actually not possible to partition the machine in the way I
need it (encrypted LVM, one lv ext4 for the OS, one lv for ZFS)

Not really good for an LTS release.

[Bug 2061913] Re: PMDK FTBFS on ppc64el obj_basic_integration/TEST5 crashed

2024-05-02 Thread Bryce Harrington
Here's a short summary of current state for this issue.

In the final weeks of the noble release, an archive-wide rebuild
identified a build failure in the pmdk package, due to issue(s) in the
testsuite. This revealed itself as an architecture-specific problem
that we suspect originated earlier in the release when a new libc was
added (we didn't confirm this, but it's still our best guess). At least
one instruction needed by valgrind was missing on ppc64el; see the
upstream discussion at https://github.com/pmem/pmdk/issues/6079 for more
details. Debian also sees similar failures in their CI.

One option would have been to change the package to not build on
ppc64el. We opted to instead just bypass the testsuite, because a) we
don't yet know if the issue flagged by the testsuite is going to surface
as actual problems for pmdk users on this architecture in which case
that could be overkill, and b) dropping the architecture might have
required similar adjustments to other packages. This successfully
allowed the package to migrate for the release.

However this leaves some questions to follow up on: Is pmdk/ppc64el
adequately functional on Ubuntu 24.04? Should keep or drop the
architecture for pmdk on Ubuntu 24.10 and going forward, given
upstream's support limitations uncertainties? If a fix becomes
available, should we backport it to 24.04 and/or re-enable the testsuite
there?

[Bug 2064666] [NEW] dmarc-cat mixes up the sources of messages

[Bug 2064208] Re: Installer crashes when booting from USB on Raspberry Pi

2024-05-02 Thread Dave Jones
I now have a test image that, using the patch from LP: #2037015, appears
to fix the installer issue when booting from USB. If volunteers are
interested in testing the image, I've made it available at:

  https://zoidberg.waveform.org.uk/images/ubuntu-24.04-preinstalled-
desktop-arm64+raspi.img.xz

The SHA256 of the image, for verification purposes, is
b2718d9005a5ea6486b8512b6cf3974ce48ef879d1232a6dc88b2ccaa1dc3390

I've tested booting from two SD cards on both models and both appear
fine; I've also tested USB boot on the Pi 4 (which worked happily) and
tomorrow I should be able to test NVMe on a Pi 5. However, given the
variability displayed by this bug already, the wider the variety of
hardware tested, the better.

Naturally, no workarounds should be in place when testing (leave the
config.txt "as is"). If things work, please report the model and memory
size of your Pi (e.g. Pi 4 4GB) and what you're booting from (SD card,
SSD, NVMe). make+model of the boot media would be useful too, but
largely to judge if we're covering a reasonable range of hardware.

If things don't work, please report the above information, plus where in
the procedure the crash occurred. If possible, re-flash and try to
confirm if the crash occurs in the same place each time (we've already
seen cases in this bug where "sometimes it does and sometimes it
doesn't").

** Description changed:

After writing the Ubuntu 24.04 Desktop for Raspberry Pi image to an SSD
drive with a USB3 interface (specifically; this issue does not occur
when booting from an SD card), booting the drive on a Pi 4 or Pi 5, and
running through the installer to the point where the (corrupted) slide
deck starts to display during setup, the installer crashes.

  [ Workaround ]
+
+ A test image is now available; please see comment 1 below for details.

At the time of writing, some workarounds have been found, but none that
consistently work on all boards with all drives. One workaround that has
worked on a Pi with a Samsung EVO SSD, and a Crucial SSD is as follows:

Before booting the image, find config.txt on the boot partition, and the
"dtoverlay=vc4-kms-v3d" line within it. There will be two of these
lines, you want the first one under an "[all]" section. Append
",cma-128" to the line. Specifically, the following section:

    dtoverlay=vc4-kms-v3d
    disable_fw_kms_setup=1

  Should become:

    dtoverlay=vc4-kms-v3d,cma-128
    disable_fw_kms_setup=1

Unmount the drive cleanly, boot it, and run through the installer. You
may revert the change (if you wish) after successful installation.

Another workaround, reported as working on a Pi 5 with an NVMe drive
  attached over PCIe:

Before booting the image, find config.txt on the boot partition. Under
the first "[all]" section append the following line:

- dtparam=pciex1
+   dtparam=pciex1

Unmount the drive cleanly, boot it, and run through the installer.

Please note both workarounds have also been reported as failing with
  certain drive combinations.

  [ Background ]

Given this crash occurs immediately upon the (corrupted) slide deck
starting, that it only occurs when booting from USB (but the exact same
image works from an SD card), and that merely changing the pre-
allocation of the contiguous memory area affects it, I suspect this at
least related to (if not a duplicate of) LP: #2037015, particularly
since a crash bug is now associated with it too, LP: #2062146.

Still, I'll leave this open as a non-duplicate for now as I'm not
  positive of root-cause yet.
