[Bug 2065751] [NEW] Mate-panel crashes (easy to reproduce)

2024-05-14 Thread MarkusRechberger
Public bug reported:

There are many reports out there about mate panel crashes.

Ubuntu Version used: Mantic

People taking care about this package should make a decision and use the latest
mate-panel sourcecode in order to not duplicate developer efforts to fix bugs.
Mate-panel is a highly unstable package it shows up numerous valgrind issues
and crashes easily when eg. using FreeCAD and switching to fullscreen /
windowed mode using ALT-F11

I would strongly recommend to stop distributing the old version of mate
desktop environment and set up a system to use the latest git versions
until basic stability is given (and just restarting mate-panel when it
crashes is not an attractive option).

Releasing faulty software in LTS/stable releases does not make any
sense; if unstable and if the user wants it use the latest git sources
for it (again to avoid developers doing duplicate work on debugging
issues)

Mate HUD is able to lock up the entire desktop (it did it here, multiple
times).

My next step here is to remove the mate ubuntu packages and go for the
latest git sources (dconf-editor (segfault) and xserver-xorg-input-
synaptics (coasting bug) package have the same issues - ubuntu is
releasing unstable versions while obvious bugs are fixed already in the
latest code repositories).

[Bug 2065748] [NEW] Coasting doesn't work properly

2024-05-14 Thread MarkusRechberger
Public bug reported:

Coasting is the kind of automatic afterscroll like on the iphone, it doesn't
work properly with the version provided by Ubuntu Mantic amd64.
Sometimes it scrolls automatically sometimes it just stops immediately.

Solution => install the xserver-xorg-input-synaptics git version from
14. May 2024 (it will not break anything but fix the problem).

[Bug 2065747] [NEW] An unknown display appears in both the GNOME display manager and NVIDIA X Server Settings

2024-05-14 Thread Ivan
Public bug reported:

A short while after this clean installation of Ubuntu 24.04 LTS, a
strange unknown display appeared both in GNOME Settings and in NVIDIA X
Server Settings. I noticed it because I could see my mouse cursor
disappear beyond the boundaries of my monitor as if it is being extended
with a second one. In GNOME Settings it is listed as an"Unknown
Display", but in NVIDIA X Server Settings, it appears as a PRIME display
which is confusing since I am using a desktop configuration.

Currently, setting the second mirror to be mirrored seems to "fix" the
issue, but it is a recurring problem.

The issue concerns an nVidia RTX 2080ti.

[Bug 2065430] Re: Screen doesn't wake from keyboard action when keyboard is connected to monitor USB hub.

2024-05-14 Thread Jarod Hackenberg
I was unable to test another graphics card in the pcie slot, but the
intel graphics from the cpu do not reproduce this issue.

I've also tested with another monitor with similar specs and the issue
doesn't occur on that one, so I think it's isolated to only one monitor
I have (the affected monitor is the NEC one in MonitorsUser.xml.txt).

I do think that the PCI bus errors are probably related to the
motherboard. Freezing and lockups are common with the SKU (XPS-8940 w/
discrete gpu).

[Bug 2040472] Re: Backport packages from noble(-devel) to server-backports PPA for focal and jammy, post-FF

2024-05-14 Thread Bryce Harrington
The qemu backport to jammy regressed in the final weeks of noble
development. The build dependency error is:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 librdmacm1t64 : Breaks: librdmacm1 (<
50.0-2build2~backport22.04.202403311003~ubuntu22.04.1) but
47.0-1~backport22.04.202401230143~ubuntu22.04.1 is to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

The 47.0 version is from mantic (the previous backport), but rdma-core
50.0 is present in the PPA and seems to have built ok, so I'm not sure
why qemu is still pulling the older version, but this will need
investigated. Maybe one of the other qemu dependencies linked it?

[Bug 2064580] Re: Please update the package to 20240320.00

2024-05-14 Thread Mauricio Faria de Oliveira
Summary for SRU release.

Autopkgtests: OK
- Devel/O: proposed migration was blocked in a test queued since early May;
re-triggered it and it passed; this should migrate soon.
- Stable/NMJF: re-triggered/cleared autopkgtests pending; all series/archs
passed.

Builds/FTBFS: OK
- Focal/riscv64: failed to build (no logs); fixed with a rebuild.

Pending SRU: OK
- No autopkgtest regressions or FTBFS reported in any series.

Update Excuses: OK
- Devel/O: waiting on refresh/migration after Autopkgtests addressed above
- Stable/NMJF: 'Issues preventing migration:' none

SRU Exception:
- (QA Process) testing/validation from CPC and GCE: OK (comment #18)
- (Vendored dependencies) version changes: OK (comment #19 based on #15, #16,
#17; in SRU template)

Therefore, will proceed with the release to -updates for
Noble/Mantic/Jammy/Focal,
as Oracular is expected to migrate soon (and is not a blocker since there are no
GCE images for Oracular as it's not a stable release yet, and when it becomes
so,
the package is expected to have migrated by months).

[Bug 2065739] Re: Unnattended upgrades take a long time due to excessive running of "apt-check"

The result of this is usually that the user gets frustrated waiting for
updates that never finish installing, so they just turn off the
computer. Then next time there are even more updates, making he problem
worse.

It isn't clear to me why apt-check is so slow, but from systemctl I can
see that it runs lsb-release to get the release name at least 10 to 20
times per invocation.

[Bug 2065739] Re: Unnattended upgrades take a long time due to excessive running of "apt-check"

2024-05-14 Thread Alistair Buxton
For example look at .var.log.apt.history.log.txt

Many packages take less than a second to install. But in between each
one is a 15 to 20 second delay. That delay is the time during which apt-
check is running.

You can watch this happening by running "watch systemctl status apt-
daily-upgrade" and looking at the processes in the cgroup:

```
~$ systemctl status apt-daily-upgrade
● apt-daily-upgrade.service - Daily apt upgrade and clean activities
 Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/apt-daily-upgrade.service; static)
 Active: activating (start) since Tue 2024-05-14 23:01:03 BST; 1h 29min ago
TriggeredBy: ● apt-daily-upgrade.timer
  Tasks: 11 (limit: 9299)
 Memory: 1.6G
CPU: 1h 12min 57.651s
 CGroup: /system.slice/apt-daily-upgrade.service
Then manually running "time apt-check"
```

[Bug 2065739] [NEW] Unnattended upgrades take a long time due to excessive running of "apt-check"

2024-05-14 Thread Alistair Buxton
Public bug reported:

The unattended upgrade services runs "apt-check" to update the MOTD
where a summary of available updates is displayed. It does this after
every package that is installed. Unfortunately, apt-check is extremely
expensive - it takes about 15 seconds to run.

If you have a computer that is infrequently used, you may have as many
as 300 available updates. Unattended upgrade will therefore run apt-
check 300 times. This takes 1 hour 15 minutes, during which time no
packages are actually installed.

Suppose you turn on your computer once a week to do something like pay
some bills. It takes 5 minutes. Then you have to wait 2 hours before you
can turn it off. Every time.

[Bug 2065737] Re: pam_radius_auth module doesn't work if ipv6 disabled

2024-05-14 Thread Steven LaCosse
And my error in log was:

pam_radius_auth: Failed to open RADIUS IPv6 socket: Address family not
supported by protocol

This is with ipv6 disabled, trying both ipv4 alias and ipv4 address
directly in conf.

18.04 packaging works

This was tested on 22.04 LTS packages.

enabling ipv6 on system and trying again with same configuration was
successful for radius

[Bug 2065737] [NEW] pam_radius_auth module doesn't work if ipv6 disabled

2024-05-14 Thread Steven LaCosse
Public bug reported:

Disabling ipv6 causes the radius module to fail and thus the authentication if
using radius.

Usually CIS or STIG involves disabling ipv6 if not used in network which
this situation is found out in.

Requesting to pull change to allow ipv6=no option in
pam_radius_auth.conf

[Bug 2065736] [NEW] Sync aqemu 0.9.2-4 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2024-05-14 Thread Sudip Mukherjee
Public bug reported:

Please sync aqemu 0.9.2-4 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
  * No-change rebuild for CVE-2024-3094
  * Drop explicit libqt5dbus5 dependency, there does not appear any dbus code?

The Ubuntu delta dropping libqt5dbus5 dependency has been added to Debian
package now.

Changelog entries since current oracular version 0.9.2-3ubuntu2:

aqemu (0.9.2-4) unstable; urgency=medium

  * QA upload
  * debian/control:
- Bump Standards-Version
- Drop hard-coded dependency (Closes: #1068216)

Re: [Bug 2065644] Re: Right click Rename file or folder freeze

2024-05-14 Thread Jonathan Smith
Hi Sebastien,

it freezes

at first i just logout

then i actually open process to kill the process

then i figure if i click on the location bar /home/Documents on the same
window, it allows me to get back control

but i have to tap a few times which is still annoying and this is just
to regain back control of the ui

i then went to settings touch-pad and disable the tap to click

i now have to push every time to execute an event in any part of the ui

but at least i don't run into that issue where it just freeze

i install ubuntu on a macbook pro 2012 13'

[Bug 2065731] [NEW] Sync adonthell 0.3.8-3 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2024-05-14 Thread Sudip Mukherjee
Public bug reported:

Please sync adonthell 0.3.8-3 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
  * No-change rebuild for CVE-2024-3094
  * d/p/drop-deprecated-swig-flags.patch: fix FTBFS caused by dropped
swig flag (LP: #2059154)
  * No-change rebuild with Python 3.12 as default

The Ubuntu delta basically had two changes.

1. The fix for FTBFS which has been added to Debian package now.
2. The Ubuntu delta also removes the flag '-modern' to fix a build warning.

But the warning does not cause any error. It only prints "Deprecated command
line option: -modern. Ignored, this option is now always on." in the build log.
imho, its better to sync than carry forward the Ubuntu delta for the build
warning fix.

I have built the package in a PPA to confirm there is no FTBFS. The
builds can be seen at
https://launchpad.net/~sudipmuk/+archive/ubuntu/test-ppa/+packages.

Changelog entries since current oracular version 0.3.8-2.1ubuntu2:

adonthell (0.3.8-3) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Team upload.
  * use new dh-sequence-python3
  * add flex to build dep
  * update patch for Python3.11
  * fix FTBFS with new swig (Closes: #1064675)

  [ Debian Janitor ]
  * Trim trailing whitespace.
  * Use secure URI in Homepage field.
  * Set upstream metadata fields: Bug-Submit (from ./configure).
