I have revisited patches skipped.

1. "usb: gadget: uvc_video: unlock before submitting a request to ep" is not
necessary with the rewrite done in "usb:gadget:uvc Do not use worker thread to
pump isoc usb requests "
2. "usb: gadget: webcam: Add support for Full HD and 4K UHD Raw Video Formats"
I have resolved the merge conflicts and applied.
3. " v4l: xilinx: xcsi2rxss: Fix warnings for NULL_RETURNS" I have resolved the

[Bug 2062377] Re: Ubuntu 24.04: gnome-shell crashes on Xorg if a legacy X11 cursor theme is selected

2024-05-19 Thread Jonathan Gilbert
A further update -- a bit of a hack, but, I liked my "whiteglass"
cursor, and I found that copying its left_ptr and right_ptr files from
/usr/share/icons/whiteglass/cursors overtop of the corresponding ones in
/usr/share/icons/Breeze_Snow/cursors gave me back my whiteglass cursor,
at least for the pointer. :-P (I made backups of the originals before
doing this.) Except in Firefox for some reason. Anyway, I don't see this
as a long-term solution, but it at least helps somewhat with visibility
for me.

[Bug 2062377] Re: Ubuntu 24.04: gnome-shell crashes on Xorg if a legacy X11 cursor theme is selected

2024-05-19 Thread Jonathan Gilbert
I upgraded from 22.04 to 24.04 and could no longer log in. Just
immediately got the sad computer face screen. Can confirm that
installing `breeze` fixed this. I don't really know what's going on but
it seems to provide a functional fallback for when the selected cursor
theme isn't working. Trying to explicitly change the cursor theme with
dconf did not fix the problem, but installing breeze got me going again.

[Bug 2063888] Re: 24.04 unusable after Gnome-Tweaks change to the mouse pointer

2024-05-19 Thread Jonathan Gilbert
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 2062377 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2062377

Hello :-) I don't really know much about what's going on but I just
encountered this exact problem. I wasn't able to log in because Xorg
would immediately display the sad computer screen. I found another post,
though, where someone said that installing the `breeze` package worked.
I tried it and it got me back to my desktop.

Step 1: From login screen, Ctrl-Alt-F4
Step 2: Log in
Step 3: sudo apt install breeze

If your experience is like mine, this will allow you to log in once
more. Your cursor selection from gnome-tweaks will be ineffectual, but
it will now have a fallback that allows you to use the system again.

(I was using "whiteglass".)

[Bug 2055237] Re: Backport ps uart RS485 driver

2024-05-19 Thread Portia Stephens
** Description changed:

  [ Impact ]

  * Backports support for rs485 to the uartps driver from the tty staging
  tree

  [ Test Plan ]
  * Testing is needed to ensure this doesn't break the serial console on

2024-05-19 Thread dreamsyntax
Forgot to mention, yes I've also created this modprobe file. per
https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1223462
It caused system crash initially (for some reason), but in reboots
after, asound would work on startup until media plays / stops playing
- then it would be back in broken state again. So a slight improvement
I guess?

Are you the one that filed this bug?
https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1223462

If that's not you, did you try the workaround in that ticket?

If so, you have the 16ARX8H, and it sounds like there's an overlap with
a laptop with the same ID that uses Cirrus Logic instead of TI.

I looked through the thread and didn't see a link to your alsa-info. Did
you share it and I just missed it in this very long thread? :D

[Bug 1958019]

2024-05-19 Thread dreamsyntax
> If that's not you, did you try the workaround in that ticket?

Hi, that is not me, my handle is same across bug reports. That
computer has a Cirrus Logic. Mine has TI.
For that model 6.7.9 is the kernel that broke support.
For me 6.7.9 is the last *working* kernel. Everything after it -
6.8.0+ has audio stopping unless re-running TAS script periodically
after media source stops.

I think there is a lot of confusion because of the same PCI SSID
despite using Cirrus Logic or TI TAS2781.

My laptop is "Legion Pro 7 16IRX8H / 82QW" - its the Gen 8 2023 model
with Intel CPU and NVIDIA GPU.
This laptop has the TI TAS2781.

This is not the same as Gen 7 nor the Gen 8 'Slim 7i' - which has
Cirrus.

[Bug 2066129] Re: The external monitor does not wake up from sleep at 4K resolution

2024-05-19 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on
Libera.chat.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/2066129/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 2066135] [NEW] Sync libhtp 1:0.5.48-2 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

2024-05-19 Thread Sudip Mukherjee
Public bug reported:

Please sync libhtp 1:0.5.48-2 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
  * No-change rebuild for CVE-2024-3094
  * debian/libhtp2.symbols: add missing symbols (LP: #2055051)
It's FTBFS on Ubuntu due to some missing/not found symbols.

The Debian package has added the new symbol and also removed the missing
ones.

I have built libhtp in a ppa and the builds can be seen at
https://launchpad.net/~sudipmuk/+archive/ubuntu/test-ppa/

Changelog entries since current oracular version 1:0.5.46-1ubuntu2:

libhtp (1:0.5.48-2) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Remove private functions strlcat/strlcpy from symbols file.
Closes: #1071324

 -- Sascha Steinbiss Sat, 18 May 2024 13:56:29 +0200

libhtp (1:0.5.48-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * New upstream release.

 -- Sascha Steinbiss Tue, 23 Apr 2024 15:16:30 +0200

libhtp (1:0.5.47-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * New upstream release.
  * Update d/symbols file.
  * Update debian/ copyright date.

[Bug 2066074] Re: Backspace key above numberpad spams infinite backspace on a single press

2024-05-19 Thread Joe
Okay it looks like Lenovo uses some kind of special layer for the number
pad when working with windows.

https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/494698/thinkpad-second-sticky-
backspace-key

Although that still doesn't fully explain why it works properly before
the kernel loads. I don't really know when the kernel loads or even what
it takes over from, I'm just guessing that something else is in control
for those CLI parts where there's no bug.

[Bug 2066129] [NEW] The external monitor does not wake up from sleep at 4K resolution

2024-05-19 Thread Krzysztof Żuk
Public bug reported:

I have Ubuntu Studio 24.04 and Ubuntu 24.04 - the problem is identical
on both. Namely, I have a 4K external monitor connected to my laptop. I
would like to use the native 4K resolution on both the laptop and the
external monitor. Unfortunately, if I use the 4K resolution, every time
the computer goes into sleep mode or just screen saver mode, the
external screen doesn't wake up. Changing the resolution to a lower one
and then back to 4K helps, and everything works until the next sleep.
The problem does not occur at resolutions lower than 4K - the external
monitor wakes up every time.

I am using an NVIDIA GeForce 2080 RTX graphics card with the nvidia-
driver-550 drivers, but I have checked with several earlier versions.
The same issue occurs with the Nouveau drivers.

Use the following two line step.

$ find /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages -iname bcc-*

Whatever are the list of files you get just delete them

For example

$ sudo rm -R sudo rm -R /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/bcc-0.29.1.egg-

2024-05-19 Thread Luuk Perdaems

Usually the screen works fine, but sometimes suddenly when I move my
cursor down, the whole GUI shifts off the screen. So then I'm seeing the

into place.

This problem stays until I turn my pc on and off.

[Bug 2065838] Re: System crash on resume from sleep

2024-05-19 Thread Mario Limonciello
Yeah I know they're different symptoms but the reason for that revert might
have a similar root cause.
I'm saying this because I've got a different system that fails to boot up that
reverting that helps.

In terms of specific instructions, I'd start with this:

https://itsfoss.com/compile-linux-kernel/

Once you can get that compiling on your own I can help you with a
applying a revert patch to see if it helps.

[Bug 1968636] Re: cryptroot-unlock doesn't work at all when terminal width is below 51

2024-05-19 Thread Adam Vodopjan
Commenting on #2:

When building busybox, there is a number of config switches. For your binary to
support "ps -w" you need this in the config:
- CONFIG_DESKTOP is not set
- CONFIG_FEATURE_PS_WIDE=y

On my 22.04 systems I've got 2 busybox binaries: /usr/bin/busybox (2.1M)
from busybox-static package and /usr/lib/initramfs-tools/bin/busybox
(311K) from busybox-initramfs package. The former was built using
debian/config/pkg/static from the source package (CONFIG_DESKTOP=y), it
does not support "ps -w". The latter was built with
debian/config/pkg/initramfs from the source package (no CONFIG_DESKTOP,
CONFIG_FEATURE_PS_WIDE=y), it supports "ps -w" and, evidently, it is the
one that gets packaged into initramfs.

If your non-desktop busybox was built without CONFIG_FEATURE_PS_WIDE=y,
there should be no problem described in this bug report. In the case,
terminal width would be assumed 79 [1]

To make it work no matter if "ps -w" is supported or not, there are two
options, both based on [2]

1. "ps https://git.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/busybox/tree/procps/ps.c?h=applied/ubuntu/jammy#n650

[Bug 2066073] Re: nvidia driver with cuda support only works if installed in the wrong order

2024-05-19 Thread noah jose
** Description changed:

For applications such as OBS 30.1.2 and Blender 4.1 to use CUDA and
NVENC, the Nvidia driver for servers must be installed first, followed
by the normal Nvidia driver, in that order. I believe this to be a bug
because the server driver is lighter than the normal driver and the
  driver installation help page https://ubuntu.com/server/docs/nvidia-
drivers-installation can be interpreted as saying the normal Nvidia
driver should be installed first followed by the server driver.

However when this is attempted installing the server driver uninstalls
the normal driver, but the server driver cannot work without the normal
driver unless it is installed again afterwards
+
+ The drivers were installed using the ubuntu-drivers tool

[Bug 2066118] [NEW] 24.04 Subiquity Cannot Read Auto-install Cloud-init Files

2024-05-19 Thread Chris
Public bug reported:

Since changing my PXE setup to serve a 24.04 ISO, I haven't been able to get
the auto-installer to read any preseed files. I load the ISO and YAML from a
local HTTP server, as always.
Curiously, the second resolution for my server's name (to download the preseed)
always fails, so I had to change the line in GRUB to use the IP. Is it just me?

Possible Subiquity Bug:
I've tried a few different files for cloud-init, but it fails to read them all
the same way. I always receive the following error:

Error parsing preconfiguration file: Syntax error: unable to determine
template owner

I tried the same file that I've always used as well as one copied from a
new server running 24.04 so I'm not sure what to do and searching for
that error online didn't yield anything helpful.

[Bug 2065838] Re: System crash on resume from sleep

2024-05-19 Thread Darin Miller
My bug symptoms are different as my PC successfully reaches a suspend
state. After additional testing, the PC will successfully resume about
50% of the time with the 6.8.0-31-generic kernel. Another side note,
when the PC sleep is initiated by the user, PC resume seems to fail more
consistently. PC sleep induced by the system power management timeout
(almost?) always resumes successfully. This resume observation could be
purely coincidental however.

Reverting d410ee5109a1 is beyond my skillset without explicit
instructions.

[Bug 2066113] [NEW] Various bugs/issues in Linux Ubuntu 24.04 accessibility checkboxes glitches, second unknown display, lagging, problems with mouse cursor

2024-05-19 Thread pangratt
Public bug reported:

Dear Sir/Madam

Could I report several bugs that I have encountered during the usage of Linux
Ubuntu 24.04 on HP desktop PC?
The affected package is probably Gnome and also Linux Ubuntu 24.04 installer.
I can provide more information if necessary.
Sorry if some of these bugs have already been reported.

- during the installation of Linux Ubuntu 24.04 in accessibility settings, when
I clicked zoom functionality then 2 mouse pointers were visible, 1 bigger and 1
smaller synchronized with each other.
- when I checked checkbox zoom on and off several times then the installation
process of Linux Ubuntu 24.04 got hung and I needed to restart it

After the successful installation of Linux Ubuntu 24.04 I encountered some
other issues
- some problems with accessibility settings. Some problems with Large Text and
High Contrast checkboxes. Switching Large Text checkbox doesn't change text
size. Also can't unpin accessibility logo permanently from top-right corner of
the screen. Some problems with checkboxes of Large Text, High Contrast, some
kind of glitches/unsynchronized checkboxes between top-right corner
accessibility panel and gnome-control-center. Maybe these problems were caused
because I checked these accessibility checkboxes during the installation.

- mouse cursor lagging every 1 second for a period 1 second.
- cursor hovering/clicking in a wrong place like it was displaced several
pixels away from a mouse cursor image, especially noticeable in nautilus file
browser or when opening files in gnome text editor
- generally often some lagging like delayed start of many applications like
terminal or during switching between windows
- after switching to another window with mouse click then it occasionally
freezes (clicking anywhere on it has no effects) until I press alt + tab keys
combination

- in settings in displays panel, there is visible second unknown display
even when I am only using 1 monitor now an only 1 video cable is
attached to my computer. I attached screenshots of this situation.

- nautilus file browser application vanished out of nowhere without
notification, and I need to install it again

- switching mouse cursor type to other than Yaru and Adwaita freezes Linux with
a white screen but this has been reported as far as I know here, and there is
an easy fix for this issue

[Bug 2066079] Re: cups-browsed.service should have 0s stop timeout

2024-05-19 Thread Till Kamppeter
There is a known bug tat cups-browsed can be stuck in a busy loop, bug
2018504. Most probably it is stuck for you and so does not handle the
SIGTERM to shut down.

Usually cups-browsed's shutdown removes the local print queues which
cups-browsed has created and therefore we should not eliminate it by
doing a SIGKILL right away.

So before setting the timeout to 0 I would like you to check whether
your cups-browsed is stuck and if not, do further checks to investigate
whether shutdown takes too long.

[Bug 1900167] Re: gnome-software unable to install updates (Prepared update not found)

2024-05-19 Thread Yosha872
I had again the issue on a other Xubuntu 22.04.4 computer (a desktop).
Here is how I fixed it:

From Gnome-software and from command line (sudo apt update && upgrade), the
same components were again not updated. So I typed this command line:
$ sudo apt upgrade python3-update-manager update-manager update-manager-core

The 3 files have upgrade from 1:22.04.19 to 1:22.04.20
After that, Gnome-software (v41.5) is OK (no more updates waiting).

[Bug 2066108] [NEW] Keyboard detection during Ubuntu installation requires mouse interaction, making the process cumbersome.

2024-05-19 Thread ole.tange
Public bug reported:

**Summary/Title:**
Keyboard detection during Ubuntu installation requires mouse interaction,
making the process cumbersome.

**Steps to Reproduce:**
1. Start the Ubuntu installation process.
2. Proceed to the "Detect keyboard" step where the installer asks a series of
questions to identify the keyboard layout.
3. The installer asks questions such as "Is on the keyboard?"
requiring you to use the mouse to click "Yes" or "No" for each question.

**Expected Result:**
The keyboard detection process should allow users to respond using the keyboard
only, without needing to switch to the mouse. A possible method could involve:
   - Asking users to type any of a list of keys (e.g., "Type any of these:
 - space if no such keys").
   - Repeating with a different list of keys if necessary.

E.g. The Danish keyboard can be identified in a single key press by
pressing ø. I believe no other keyboards has ø on keycode 48.

**Actual Result:**
Users are required to find and use the mouse to click "Yes" or "No" for each
question during the keyboard detection process, making it less efficient and
more cumbersome.

**Environment:**
- **Operating System**: Ubuntu 24.04
- **Installation Method**: Standard installation process without custom
configurations.

**Severity/Priority:**
- **Severity**: Minor - does not prevent installation but degrades user
experience.
- **Priority**: Low - improving this could enhance user experience during
installation.

**Screenshots/Logs:**
No screenshots or logs provided.

**Additional Information:**
A streamlined method, as proposed, could significantly reduce the number of
interactions needed to detect the keyboard layout, making the process more
efficient and user-friendly. For instance, recognizing that the Danish keyboard
uniquely maps the 'ø' character to keycode 48 could allow for a single key
press detection.

[Bug 2066064] Re: Dell Latitude 5450 and 5550 Ethernet dropped packets (Intel Meteor Lake CPU with 8086:550a NIC)

2024-05-19 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

Bug reporting is about finding & fixing problems thus preventing future
users from hitting the same bug.

I suspect a Support site would be more appropriate, eg.
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu. You can also find help with your
problem in the support forum of your local Ubuntu community
http://loco.ubuntu.com/ or asking at https://askubuntu.com or
https://ubuntuforums.org, or for more support options please look at
https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/community-support/709

You've filed this bug against the Ubuntu-Release-Upgrader package, which
will upgrade a release from 22.04 to 23.10 (or 24.04 in the future), but
no logs or mention of problems with that are mentioned.

Ubuntu 22.04 LTS is a LTS release, thus has some kernel stack choices
(GA = 5.15, HWE = 6.5, OEM = ...) but no clues as to product (Server?
Desktop?) were provided, nor what install media was used (ie. kernel
stack defaults are unknown). Your description implies network issues,
where bug report is filed against the `do-release-upgrade` (or
equivalent) command without logs..

I suggest trying support first.. as your issue maybe more linked to the
linux kernel (or kernel modules) and not what you've filed the bug
against; but no details as to what you're running were actually provided
(release requires product & install media details to be known for LTS
releases with kernel stack choice).

[Bug 2066081] Re: Nouveau failing to boot or glitches

2024-05-19 Thread Chris Guiver
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command only once, as it
will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

apport-collect 2066081

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.
