[Bug 2052137] Re: bonded link goes down on reconfigure

2024-06-05 Thread Alexander
@enr0n Hi, I apologize for tagging you directly; as you very busy man,
but I'd like to clarify if there is anything I can do to help on that
matter? I.e. fill SRU or prepare a some kind of PR to offload it in some
way.

[Bug 2068078] [NEW] Fails to start on 24.04 – needs python3-setuptools?

[Bug 2052137] Re: bonded link goes down on reconfigure

2024-05-30 Thread Alexander
Hello,

Another bump from me, as it affects our infrastructure quite heavily, as
we are currently in process of transitioning to Jammy realease. And with
more than thousand nodes being redeployed alreday, even small task like
add new route causes unwanted complications.

I don't know if i did everything correct, but PSA patch for canonical
systemd repo for jammy branch, which has been applied in mainstream of
systemd, and has been linked abovr already. I hope it helps to fasten
the process.

[Bug 2018504] Re: cups-browsed is using an excessive amount of CPU

2024-05-10 Thread Alexander Topic
Hello, I just observed this bug last night with Btop++. I noticed 1-2 Cores at
100% and my
cpu was over heating. I recently installed Ubuntu 24.04 LTS about a week ago
and everything
has been some what working well, except this bug.

My room mate has wifi printers, so when they shutdown this can trigger
this bug? I have a local Xerox B205 laser printer, but also have wifi
printers.

I had to shutdown and reboot up, then it seemed to go away.

I hope this gets fixed soon, it is a waste of power and not good for us.

Good to know others reported this bug, thank you all.

[Bug 2063976] Re: Apparmor breaking nsjail in AOSP

2024-04-28 Thread Alexander Koskovich
To clarify, this is not something that can be solved upstream in
apparmor, and a profile can't be accepted due to the nature of the path
location?

I'm really trying to avoid a situation where we need to add additional
instructions after syncing AOSP just for Ubuntu users.

One idea for this was to take nsjail and package it in Debian and remove
it from AOSP prebuilts, that way a proper profile could be upstreamed
since the path would be static, but that wouldn't address all previous
versions of Android.

Google has also been trying to move all binaries required for AOSP
compile into the tree itself for more reproducible builds, so I'm not
even sure if they'd accept that.

[Bug 2063976] Re: Apparmor breaking nsjail in AOSP

2024-04-27 Thread Alexander Koskovich
Thanks, I took a look at creating a profile for nsjail, but I'm a bit
confused on how to associate it with the app?

Because nsjail is a prebuilt in AOSP's source code that means it could be
litteraly anywhere on the user's system, e.g:
~/android-14.0.0_r1/prebuilts/build-tools/linux-x86/bin/nsjail
~/android-13.0.0_r1/prebuilts/build-tools/linux-x86/bin/nsjail
~/android-12.0.0_r1/prebuilts/build-tools/linux-x86/bin/nsjail

```
profile nsjail /**/prebuilts/build-tools/linux-x86/bin/nsjail
flags=(unconfined) {
```

I tested the above and it works, but is there a better way to do this?
Feels dirty and not what apparmor people would want.

[Bug 2063976] [NEW] Apparmor breaking nsjail in AOSP

2024-04-27 Thread Alexander Koskovich
Public bug reported:

Build sandboxing in AOSP is broken after updating to 24.04 with the
following denials:

[ 182.439078] audit: type=1400 audit(1714265880.641:449): apparmor="AUDIT"
operation="userns_create" class="namespace" info="Userns create - transitioning

[Bug 2062967] Re: ubuntu-drivers no longer offers nvidia 550 drivers

2024-04-26 Thread Alexander
Thanks for the feedback, Sebastien. Question, I read that Nvidia has a
new driver V555 in the works, which together with Gnome 46.1 will fix
explicit sync issues under Wayland, resolving a number of outstanding
glitches and bugs when gaming via Steam under wayland. When the time has
come, will Ubuntu be offering that new version as well via the driver
selection tool or will we stick to V550?

[Bug 2062967] Re: ubuntu-drivers no longer offers nvidia 550 drivers

2024-04-25 Thread Alexander
Update: I just upgraded to Ubuntu 24.04 LTS and still no 550 drivers
available. Before upgrading to 24.04 I tried installing the driver
version 545 on Ubuntu 23.10 via the driver tool and immediately got hit
by a dependency error and at some point the installation just froze. I
decided to install 24.04 freshly from scratch after this.

Nvidia driver installation really has to be worked on when installing
via the additional drivers tool. It's lacking newer drivers and it's too
unstable when doing anything above the tested driver set.

2024-04-24 Thread Alexander
Agreed. I recently installed Ubuntu 23.10 after some absence and the
first thing noted is the Nvidia drivers 535 are the default / tested
version in the preinstalled driver tool app, and while that's fine, the
newer version 550 is missing completely. Please add 550 both the
proprietary and as open kernel module. IIRC on Ubuntu 22.04.4 version
550 open was available but only as a server edition (or was it 23.10?).

In addition, please make sure that switching between graphic drivers via
the driver tool is safe. I say this because I was switching back and
forth between Ubuntu LTS and 23.10 for testing purposes (separate hard
drives), and the last time I switched to 545 via the driver tool app, it
showed me an error window without error message and wouldn't install.
After a reboot Ubuntu just freezed with a blinking cursor. Now I read
what Jack posted above and understand why this is happening, but a
normal user just wanting to switch drivers won't understand what's going
on. This isn't the first time these things happen either.

GPU: Nvidia RTX A2000

[Bug 2060649] [NEW] ansible-lint crashes in 24.04

2024-04-09 Thread Alexander Sitnik
Public bug reported:

Running ansible-lint in Ubuntu 24.04 on my role ends up with a stack
trace:

Traceback (most recent call last):

AttributeError: module 'pathlib' has no attribute '_posix_flavour'

This is due to python3-wcmatch=8.4-2 being incompatible with python3.12.
Upstream fixed this in the next version

I think the following portion of changes can be added to library package for
Noble release:

[Bug 2056649] Re: Outlook.com does not authenticate anymore with evolution-ews or gnome online accounts

2024-03-10 Thread Alexander Vinbæk Strand
Now it just works here.. it seems like that an other package I installed
earlier today had gir1.2-edataserver-1.2 as one of the dependencies, and
maybe that also fixed the problem, because now the calendar syncs with
outlook, and the same does evolution with email and contacts..

[Bug 1974235] Re: sru cloud-init (22.1-14 to 22.2) Bionic, Focal, Impish, Jammy

2022-06-01 Thread Alexander Balderson
SQA is happy to give a +1 for Bionic and Focal

we have no Juju workloads which currently run on Jammy, and only do Juju
workloads on LTS's

Bionic:

Focal:
https://solutions.qa.canonical.com/testplans/testplaninstance/413b8d8a-25d8-4fed-8227-593d1381a384

In both cases we used Juju to deploy a full Openstack with complex
networking and storage configuration. Everything worked as expected.

[Bug 1971428] Re: CPU pipe A FIFO underrun

2022-05-28 Thread Alexander Lazarević
Same here on Lenovo Thinkpad T490 with i915 and external monitor
attached via Thunderbolt. External monitor goes black several times a
day.

Only when I move the mouse cursor into the lower 10% part of the monitor
screen. It stays black if I don't move the mouse. Once I move the mouse,
the screen comes back. It does not always happen in that lower 10% part.
But when it happens, the cursor is in that area.

Around that time I see in dmesg:
i915 :00:02.0: [drm] *ERROR* CPU pipe B FIFO underrun

I tried a fix from here:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=263720

But adding the kernel parameter intel_idle.max_cstate=4 did not help in
my case.

[Bug 1971987] Re: On release upgrade, Snaps don't change channel

2022-05-19 Thread Alexander Browne
I asked in the forum but didn't see an answer: Is there a way to see
that these channels exist? I don't see them listed with `snap info gtk-
common-themes` or on the store at https://snapcraft.io/gtk-common-
themes. If it's tracking the correct channel that is listed with `snap
info`, but that doesn't someone who has changed the channel.

It might also be helpful to have a command to revert to the
default/recommended channel.

[Bug 1967924] Re: re-apply missing overlayfs SAUCE patch

2022-05-09 Thread Alexander Mikhalitsyn
Hi Andrea,

thanks a lot!

1. In my original patch here:
https://patchwork.ozlabs.org/project/ubuntu-kernel/patch/20210426081121.37363-1-alexan...@mihalicyn.com/

there was no "fput" call inside ovl_vm_prfile_set helper. fput was in
the outer ovl_mmap() function in fs/overlayfs/file.c

You last fix looks fully correct.

2. If we compare ovl_mmap function between 5.8 branch and 5.15:
https://git.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux/+git/focal/tree/fs/overlayfs/file.c?h=hwe-5.8#n461

https://git.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-
kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux/+git/focal/tree/fs/overlayfs/file.c?h=hwe-5.15-next=e3e60b65fa4db4722bd4b02a9dae58f7ff5d83d2#n528

we can see that ovl_mmap function was changed after:
https://git.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux/+git/focal/commit/fs/overlayfs/file.c?h=hwe-5.15-next=2896900e22f8212606a1837d89a6bbce314ceeda

that's the point where the problem was introduced and ovl_vm_prfile_set
with this "fput" become incorrect.

Right now, with your fix all seems correct.

3. But there is a question. Can we split this thing out of AUFS? As I mentioned
before all that we really need here is this part:
https://github.com/JPyke3/mbp-manjaro-kernel/blob/master/aufs5-mmap.patch

Why we can't remove this `#if IS_ENABLED(CONFIG_AUFS_FS)` and use "shadow file"
helper all the time?
I'm ready to prepare and test full version of patches to achieve that if it's
needed.

Regards,
Alex

Thanks, Ronald,

yes, this is exactly the same story as with HP Inc. HP Laser MFP 135a.

If this is the same situation, the only one thing that I can do is to
blacklist this device in the ipp-usb, so ipp-usb will not conflict with

[Bug 1971987] Re: On release upgrade, Snaps don't change channel

Ken Vandine replied (https://forum.snapcraft.io/t/gtk-common-themes-out-

you had perhaps switched to edge or candidate in the past then back to
stable."

Sounds like this needs some testing to confirm, since several users
don't remember changing the channel.

I'd also suggest that if someone has, there should be an option during
the upgrade — similar what happens when there’s a new system config file
that conflicts with your modified one.

[Bug 1897454] Re: [snap] Chromium has Wayland support disabled

2022-05-06 Thread Alexander Browne
@copong Wayland for Chromium is definitely still experimental, but is
under active development, helped because ChromeOS is/will use it.

I'd suggest you compare with an upstream build: https://download-
chromium.appspot.com/

Just download, unpack and run the chromium binary. Since the snap's
config is all in ~/snap/chromium, and this version just uses ~/
directly, it's easy to use along side.

[Bug 1971987] [NEW] On release upgrade, Snaps don't change channel

2022-05-06 Thread Alexander Browne
Public bug reported:

Snaps need a way to have their channels transitioned on release upgrade,
which doesn't seem to happen right now.

A recent example is the gtk-common-themes snap. The stable channel
version is not the latest because it can break earlier releases, so for
Jammy the correct channel is stable/ubuntu-22.04. However, systems that
were upgraded from a previous version are not transitioned to this
channel, so they have the older snap from stable channel or from a
previous versioned channel (e.g. stable/ubuntu-19.04).

Mentioned first on https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/known-issues-with-
firefox-snap/24663/47

Hello, Andrea!

Thanks a lot for your attention to this problem!

This patch lightly relies on AUFS.
All that we need is
https://github.com/JPyke3/mbp-manjaro-kernel/blob/master/aufs5-mmap.patch
to bring needed helpers. Can we keep these changes in ubuntu sauce after AUFS
will be dropped?
Please, reach me if it's needed to prepare some patches to the Ubuntu kernel
and send it from our (CRIU project) side.

Alex

[Bug 1968377] Re: New Chromium icon, not yet used by Snap

2022-04-09 Thread Alexander Browne
Looking at the snapcraft.yaml (https://git.launchpad.net/~chromium-
team/chromium-browser/+git/snap-from-source/tree/snapcraft.yaml#n233)

I think what needs to change is

  cp chrome/app/theme/chromium/product_logo_256.png
$SNAPCRAFT_PART_INSTALL/chromium.png

to

  cp chrome/app/theme/chromium/linux/product_logo_256.png
$SNAPCRAFT_PART_INSTALL/chromium.png

That is, add `linux` to the icon source path, since these new icons
differ by platform.

(If the code was on GitHub I'd submit a PR, but I'm very much a beginner
with git and haven't done it on LP before.)

[Bug 1968377] [NEW] New Chromium icon, not yet used by Snap

2022-04-08 Thread Alexander Browne
Public bug reported:

Google updated the Chrome/Chromium icons recently (see more at
https://twitter.com/elvin_not_11/status/1489647032201465861), but I
don't think the Snap icon has been updated.

Here's the Chromium icons on the Chromium source GitHub mirror, which
was easier for me to search:

[Bug 1961581] Re: 'Synaptics touchpad' not detected as an input device on 'Fujitsu LIFEBOOK U7411'

2022-04-02 Thread Alexander
Hi this could be a issue of Fujitsu Laptops in general, i have propably
the same problem just on a different laptop model.

I did issue a similar bug report, because it's a different model, but i
think its definitely possible, that this bug is connected to the
touchpad that Fujitsu uses in general respectively the manufacturer.

If you did find a fix, pleas tell me then i will try it on my model as
well.

With best regards,
Alexander

[Bug 1958267] Re: "Connection failed" for WPA Enterprise network eduroam

2022-03-30 Thread Alexander Browne
@seb128

Sorry if that sounded browbeating. My response is more like
"unfortunate, but understandable". Someone has to be first, even if
MS/Apple seem OK to leave it working.

Thanks for finding the Fedora info. I had just wondered about other
distros. Looks like the other bug they link to is a dupe of this?
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/1961558

Can I suggest this be documented in the release notes, at least the
issue, but maybe even including the workaround? FWIW, I see now the file
suggested in the workaround above (/usr/lib/ssl/openssl.cnf) is a link
to /etc/ssl/openssl.cnf, so I think it shouldn't get overwritten as I
thought it might.

The workaround also does work for me. (For the record, I appended those
lines at the end of the config file.)

I see the openssl bug is marked wontfix. I think this is unfortunate,
since it means that eduroam (maybe poorly configured, but still) will
work out of the box for Windows and Mac (and Android and iOS) but not
Ubuntu 22.10 LTS.

[Bug 1966340] [NEW] Dock icon menu at wrong location and does not go away

2022-03-24 Thread Alexander Lazarević
Public bug reported:

Right-click on the thunderbird dock icon produces the dock icon menu at
the top of the screen and not right next to the dock icon.

The dock icon menu will stay there regardless if I try to activate a
menu item or activate another window, etc.

The only thing that will make the menu go away is to press the
key to see all the windows. After pressing again, the menu will
go away.

[Bug 1966339] [NEW] Dock icon still shown after exit with many window indicatros (red dots)

2022-03-24 Thread Alexander Lazarević
Public bug reported:

After closing thunderbird successfully, the dock icon is still shown
with many window indicators (red dots along the icon).

It's not possible to start thunderbird again from that dock icon.
It's possible to start thunderbird from a shell though.

I have not seen this behaviour with any other app.

[Bug 1966113] Re: Times New Roman fails to render Arabic diacritics correctly

2022-03-24 Thread Alexander Nilsson
Thank you for your answer. Actually, I'm not a fan of Times New Roman
for rendering the Arabic script, but sometimes the default font is Times
New Roman on certain web pages. I'll test supplanting the current font
with a fresh one from Windows / MacOS and get back to you.

Either way, why isn't the package updated to include the latest version
of the font?

[Bug 1966113] [NEW] Times New Roman fails to render Arabic diacritics correctly

2022-03-23 Thread Alexander Nilsson
Public bug reported:

Times New Roman does not render Arabic diacritics correctly when there
is a shadda followed by letter that has a diacritic. This is a bug both
when rendering the text in for example Firefox / Chrome and in
LibreOffice.

To test the bug, copy the following text into a text editor, for example
LibreOffice, and change the font to Times New Roman to see how the
diacritics change position.

اشعّةُ
قوّتِك

The text is, however, correctly rendered with Times New Roman on Windows and
MacOS machines, but not on my Linux machine.

Please see the attached image for a comparison with a font that
correctly displays the diacritics.

[Bug 1897454] Re: [snap] Chromium has Wayland support disabled

2022-03-10 Thread Alexander Browne
You could test an upstream build of Chromium: https://download-
chromium.appspot.com/

Since this version is unconfined, it doesn't share config data with the
snap, so it's safe to use alongside the snap for testing.

[Bug 1958267] Re: "Connection failed" for WPA Enterprise network eduroam

2022-03-07 Thread Alexander Browne
Eduroam is a WPA2 Enterprise network. It supported different EAP methods
(https://wiki.geant.org/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=121346284):

- EAP TTLS-PAP
- PEAP
- EAP TLS
- EAP-pwd

I always use the default option selected in Ubuntu Wi-Fi Settings, which
is labeled "Tunneled TLS". But I double-checked some guides and most
recommend PEAP, which I've now also tried and had the same issue with.

Guide from my institution:
https://it.umn.edu/services-technologies/how-tos/wifi-connect-unix-or-linux-most-major
Another guide:
https://www.ucl.ac.uk/isd/how-to/connecting-to-eduroam-wi-fi-linux

I usually use the "No CA certificate is required" option as shown in the
second guide.

The "Inner authentication" is the default option, MSCHAPv2.

Log attached. Thanks!

[Bug 1963554] [NEW] Touchpad of Fujitsu Lifebook U9310X does not work anymore

2022-03-03 Thread Alexander
Public bug reported:

What i expect to happen:
use touchpad as mouse input device

what happend instead:
the touchpad does not register any input anymore (did work fine before) and
doesn't show up in devices

General Information:

- the laptop model is the "Fujitsu Lifebook U9310X"

- i don't know the manufacturer of the touchpad. I remember not finding
anything labeled "touchpad" in "/proc/bus/input/devices" but at that
time it worked. I think there was something labeled "3 button" or
something like that, but i don't remember correctly

- the problem first appeared around end of January i think, but i am not
certain about that because if use my notebook mostly docked at the
moment with a mouse connected. It certainly did work until around
Christmas last 2021. I waited a while for it to maybe get resolved with
a patch until now the problem persists.

Ubuntu Version:
Description:Ubuntu 20.04.4 LTS
Release:20.04

not quite sure which package/version i should put here.

I added the output of "cat /proc/bus/input/devices > ~/devices" to this
bug.

If further informations are needed i will gladly help.

I really hope someone can help here,
best regards aletschius

[Bug 1886206] Re: os-prober fails to reload ioctl on a bcache device

Patch to ignore bcache in os-prober is published already in 2017:

All advises to use GRUB_OS_PROBER_SKIP_LIST are irrelevant as this list
is applied to the results of os-prober. And the error message appears
during run of os-prober.

[Bug 1908775] Re: preinstall `earlyoom` by default

2022-02-01 Thread Alexander Browne
I guess if systemd-oomd is getting installed by default, this bug is
obsolete. But note that it looks like systemd-oomd only works with GNOME
and KDE for now. In other desktops and environments like Sway that don't
launch applications in cgroups will get the whole session killed if
there's memory pressure. So some users may be prefer to install
earlyoom.

[Bug 1958718] [NEW] Crash on wake with kernel version 5.13

2022-01-22 Thread Alexander Dietrich
Public bug reported:

With "linux-image-5.13.0-27-generic" on Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS, my notebook
(Thinkpad T14) crashes when waking up after being suspended. The screen
displays what I would describe as "colourful snow" with some vertical
stripes on the right edge of the display. The only thing I can do is
power off the machine by holding the power button for several seconds
and then restart.

With "linux-image-5.11.0-46-generic", this does not happen.

2022-01-21 Thread Alexander Martinz
Public bug reported:

Package version: 1:4.0.6-0ubuntu1~20.04.1

$> lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 20.04.3 LTS
Release:20.04

$> uname -a
Linux ubuntu 4.9.295 #5 SMP PREEMPT Thu Jan 20 18:40:42 CET 2022 aarch64
aarch64 aarch64 GNU/Linux

-

LXC fails to start containers in Focal 20.04 on some arm64 devices
running a kernel version older than 5.4.

The LXC version packaged in Focal is 4.0.6 and makes use of "pidfd".
However, this requires kernel version 5.4+.

There is a check in place, if "pidfd" is usable or not.
Though this check fails for arm64, which results in failing to start containers.

This issue was fixed in 4.0.7 with the following commit:
https://github.com/lxc/lxc/commit/c07b6837e30b8d969060ce7d3f95a30abec637de

Recompiling the focal lxc package with above commit applied fixes this
issue and containers start properly again on the affected device.

Upgrading the kernel to fix the affected devices is unfortunately not
feasable, because they are running a vendor specific kernel.

Would it be possible to include the fix in a SRU for Focal?

** Affects: lxc (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1958267] [NEW] "Connection failed" for WPA Enterprise network eduroam

2022-01-18 Thread Alexander Browne
Public bug reported:

With the current jammy version of wpasupplicant (2:2.10-1), I cannot
connect to the WPA Enterprise network eduroam, which is used by
Universities worldwide. I get a "Connection failed" message or a request
to re-enter the password.

- I've re-tried the credentials: no fix ;-)

- Tried a 21.10 live session on the same machine: works fine!

- Manually downgraded wpasupplicant to the impish version
(2:2.9.0-21build1): connected normally.

- Upgraded wpasupplicant to the latest version: fails to connect again.
