Unfortunately padsp uses $LD_PRELOAD so it doesn't work with statically linked binaries like some older Linux games - for example, Rilroad Tycoon 2. Backward compatibility matters! I have the same problem. After upgrading from Dapper to Hardy, I can't use any admin tools even after checking /etc/hosts and adding my username to the admin and polkituser groups in /etc/group and /etc/gshadow. I always get Could not authenticate. This server is running ntpdate every 5 minutes and has gained 1.7 seconds each time, which sounds the same as your report. I'll have to try tickadj and see if it helps.
