[Bug 1800264] Re: python3-libtorrent linking libboost_python27.so instead of libboost_python36.so

2018-12-08 Thread Andrew Starr-Bochicchio
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ Due to the libboost-python naming convention changing,
+ python3-libtorrent incorrectly links to libboost_python27.so instead of
+ libboost_python36.so in cosmic. The essentially renders the package
+ useless.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ Run the command:
+
+ $ python3 -c "import libtorrent"
+
+ With 1.1.9-1 on cosmic, it will fail with:
+
+ Traceback (most recent call last):
+ File "", line 1, in
+ ImportError: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libboost_python27.so.1.67.0: undefined
symbol: PyClass_Type
+
+
+ The command should exit without error in the fixed version.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ There is little regression potential as the package is currently broken
+ without this fix.
+
+
+
An error occurs when importing the libtorrent module from python 3.x
  script:

  ImportError: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libboost_python27.so.1.67.0:
  undefined symbol: PyClass_Type

  How to reproduce:
  1. Install packages:
  python36
  python3-libtorrent
  2. Run any python script importing libtorrent module

[Bug 1701068] Re: motd is advertising HBO's Silicon Valley

2017-06-28 Thread Andrew Starr-Bochicchio
I have to say, I was very disappointed to see this when I logged onto
one of my servers today. I can understand the desire to be able to
communicate directly to users and present timely, relevant information,
but linking out to content marketing in what seems to be one of its
first uses is self-sabotage. This type of behavior will lead to it being
disabled and the "important security messages" to not be seen.

Note, you can disable this behavior in /etc/default/motd-news

[Bug 1505839] Re: Unable to install from text mode interface

2016-04-07 Thread Andrew Starr-Bochicchio
Ubuntu has version 20101020ubuntu445 of debian-installer while Debian
has 20160106. That seems to imply that it it was forked years ago
without re-syncing on Debian.

Yes, it hits Packer users but it certainly isn't limited to Packer. As I
mention in the original report, I can reproduce it booting the ISO
manually as well.

Interestingly, using 5.6.27-0ubuntu0.14.04.1 on 14.04 on a 512mb server
consistently fails to install while 5.6.27-0ubuntu1 with 15.10 doesn't.
I don't see any obvious configuration difference scanning the diff

[Bug 1505839] [NEW] Unable to install from text mode interface

2015-10-13 Thread Andrew Starr-Bochicchio
Public bug reported:

I use packer (https://www.packer.io) to automate the creation of Ubuntu
virtual machine images. It's "boot_command" allows you to pass key
presses to the installer. For 15.04, I use something like this:

-

"boot_command": [
"",
"/install/vmlinuz auto url=http://{{ .HTTPIP }}:{{ .HTTPPort
}}/ubuntu-15-04.cfg ",
"debian-installer=en_US locale=en_US kbd-chooser/method=us ",
"hostname={{ .Name }} ",

"keyboard-configuration/modelcode=SKIP ",
"keyboard-configuration/layout=USA ",
"keyboard-configuration/variant=USA ",

"initrd=/install/initrd.gz -- "
],

Pressing escape twice and then enter brings you to the text mode
interface and then it boots the installer with a preseed file served
over HTTP:

/install/vmlinuz auto url=http://10.0.2.2:8081/ubuntu-15-04.cfg
debian-installer=en_US locale=en_US kbd-chooser/method=us
hostname=myhostname keyboard-configuration/modelcode=SKIP keyboard-
configuration/layout=USA keyboard-configuration/variant=USA
initrd=/install/initrd.gz --

This successfully boots and installs on 15.04. On 15.10 it displays:

Loading bootlogo...

Initializing gfx code...

And then returns to the to the language selection screen. Manually
booting the iso and entering the text mode interface, the same thing
happens.

I see others are running into this as well

this. Can someone who was experiencing the problem before confirm that,
after the python-characteristic 14.3.0-1 update is installed, the
problem no longer occurs?

[Bug 1384508] Re: No indicator icon for Deluge in Unity

2014-11-16 Thread Andrew Starr-Bochicchio
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ * Without python-appindicator, the indicator is not visible in the
+ panel.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * Install deluge from utopic without python-appindicator. Enable the
+ indicator:
+
+ Edit Preferences Interface Enable system tray icon
+
+ The icon will not be visible in the panel.
+
+ * Install deluge from utopic-proposed. python-appindicator will be
+ installed. Enable the indicator, and it will be visible in the panel.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * Very little regression potential. One package is added to the
+ Recommends. It will be installed by default, but users not wanting the
+ package may still avoid it.
+
+
+
Deluge's indicator icon doesn't show up, but it is enabled in
  properties.

Go to Edit Properties Interface. Enable system tray icon and indicator
applet. (Some items may be called somewhat differently, I am using a croatian
interface, so I translated this on-the-fly)
Expected behaviour: a clickable Deluge icon, with its own menu if clicked,
shows up in the indicator area of the Unity panel.
Actual behaviour: nothing happens at all.

  I am using Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn 64-bit (fresh-installed from a beta
image)
  Standard Unity interface
Deluge 1.3.10 from official Ubuntu repos

I will gladly provide any other info, if needed.

Thank you very much for your effort and help!

[Bug 1298883] Re: kazam crashed with SIGSEGV in INT_cairo_region_reference()

2014-08-19 Thread Andrew Starr-Bochicchio
Uploaded the fix to Debian unstable and trusty-proposed. I'll sync it
into utopic once it is available.

** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ * All users, when taking a screenshot of an area of the screen, have
+ the program crash.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * Select Screenshot and then Area Select an area of the screen,
+ press enter, and then press capture.
+
+ * With the version of kazam in trusty, the program will crash.
+
+ * With the version in trusty-proposed, the screenshot will be taken and
+ you will be asked to select a location to save it.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * There is little potential for regression. The only code that is
+ touched is the code that draws the window outline for the selected area.
+ This feature is already not usable in trusty.

[Bug 1354367] Re: Imagination try to launch ffmpeg, which is not available in repositories

2014-08-10 Thread Andrew Starr-Bochicchio
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ * ffmpeg was removed from the repositories. imagination used it to
+ export the slideshow to video. Currently all exports fail with cannot
+ launch 'ffmpeg', (no such file or directory)
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * Create a new slideshow and attempt to export it Slideshow
+ Export
+
+ * With the version in trusty, you will see an error dialog stating:
+ cannot launch 'ffmpeg', (no such file or directory)
+
+ * With the version in trusty-proposed, the slideshow will be exported
+ to a video file.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * Little regression potential as exports do not currently work at all.
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ * Fixed in Debian and utopic in 3.0-5
+ -
+
  Tried on Ubuntu 14.04.
All exports fail with cannot launch 'ffmpeg', (no such file or directory)

I workarounded it by installing libav-tools and then:
  sudo ln -s /usr/bin/avconf /usr/bin/ffmpeg

[Bug 1285287] Re: Crashes after clicking edit while using certain icon themes

2014-08-10 Thread Andrew Starr-Bochicchio
** Description changed:

- After generating a screenshot, or opening an existing screenshot, I
- clicked the edit button in the top right corner. A new editor window
- opens and instantly both the main window, and editor window close.
+ [Impact]
+
+ * When using certain icon themes, if you click the Edit button
+ Shutter will crash. The very popular Numix Circle icon theme is one that
+ triggers this crash, leading to this bug to have a fairly wide impact.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * Using the version in trusty: After generating a screenshot, or
+ opening an existing screenshot, click the edit button in the top right
+ corner. A new editor window opens and instantly both the main window,
+ and editor window crash.
+
+ * Using the version in trusty-proposed. Follow the same steps. The
+ editor window will successfully open and you will be able to edit the
+ screenshot.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * Little regression potential. The patch is from upstream, and removes
+ a under-tested/under-used feature to import icons from your current icon
+ theme and paste them into your screenshot. A number of stock icons are
+ still provided as well as the ability to choose an image from the file
+ system.
+
+ [Other Info]
+
+ Upstream commit: https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~mario-
+ kemper/shutter/devel/revision/1265
+

+
+
+ After generating a screenshot, or opening an existing screenshot, I clicked
the edit button in the top right corner. A new editor window opens and

[Bug 1299872] Re: Quassel Client won't start with recent updates (3/30/2014)

2014-07-05 Thread Andrew Starr-Bochicchio
As Harold said, please check that the client windows is not minimized.

I just installed this under Unity and it works as expected out of the
box. The issue seems to only happen if you enable UseSystemTrayIcon and
MinimizeOnClose. To be able to access the window once this has been
done, remove the following settings from ~/.config/quassel-
irc.org/quasselclient.conf

MainWinHidden=true
UseSystemTrayIcon=true
MinimizeOnClose=true

Though all that's just a work around. Installing quassel-client pulls in
libindicate-qt1, so the tray icon should work. It looks like this is
upstream bug #1269 which already has a patch attached:

[Bug 1334337] [NEW] Regression: php5-fpm's socket should be accessible by www-data by default

2014-06-25 Thread Andrew Starr-Bochicchio
Public bug reported:

The recent security update to php5 broke common configurations for
php5-fpm.

From IRC:

cover all the use cases

[Bug 1330703] Re: [Security] UPNP opens port 0 which fully exposes PC to the internet.

2014-06-22 Thread Andrew Starr-Bochicchio
So this looks like upstream commit 10001 and 10003:

https://code.google.com/p/libtorrent/source/detail?r=10001
https://code.google.com/p/libtorrent/source/detail?r=10003

Which were released in libtorrent-rasterbar-0.16.17.tar.gz

I'll get this into Debian sid and Ubuntu utopic shortly, and then kick
off the SRU process for trusty.

[Bug 1298580] Re: Menu pops up in the center of the screen

2014-06-08 Thread Andrew Starr-Bochicchio
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ * When parcellite is started the context menu pops up in the center of
+ the screen. This is a regression from previous releases.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ * Start parcellite from trusty, the menu will pop up.
+ * Install parcellite from trusty-proposed, restart it, and see no menu popup.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ * There is little regression potential. The code touched is during
+ startup calling check_for_appindictor, so any regression would likely
+ manifest in a problem starting the program or it appearing in the panel.
+
+
+ -
+
After logging in, I have the Parcellite menu in the center of the
screen. The same that you can activate by ctrl-alt-P by default. I have
to make a selection to make it go away. For example about, and then
  close that.
