[Bug 1750889] Re: GNOME Terminal scrollbar looks weird on clean GNOME session under Wayland

2018-02-27 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
I'm seeing something similar on Bionic when using the Communitheme on
Wayland session, where the scrollbar also goes past the bottom of the
window. It does not show up when using Xorg. I think the problem also
appears under the Ambiance theme on Wayland, but I do not have a
screenshot immediately available demonstrating this. The severity of the
problem seems to change depending on the theme used.

[Bug 1719744] [NEW] Timers are not displayed for my recipes or when printed

2017-09-26 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
Public bug reported:

I added a few recipes to GNOME Recipes, but when I view my recipes under
the "My Recipes" category from the main screen, the timers are not
shown, instead only showing a link consisting of a single diamond-like
character (see screenshot). The text for the timer is shown in the
tooltip on hover though.

Also, when the recipe is printed, the timer lines are completely blank
on the paper, leaving odd gaps in between steps with no timing
information.

Ran into black corners on rounded CSD headerbars on Ubuntu 15.10 like in

through modifying the theme files. The problem is especially pronounced
when using Radiance, where the visual glitch really clashes with the
otherwise white titlebar.

[Bug 1506723] [NEW] Initial downward scroll using touchpad is too fast

[Bug 1249333] Re: UbuntuWebView doesn't regard GRID_UNIT_PX

2015-09-17 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
Is this the bug I'm looking for? I was going to report that the Ubuntu
web browser app does not respect the display scaling set in the System
Settings on Wily (Unity 7 desktop image), but I'm not sure if this is
already reported. Text in the browser / Unity web apps appears very
small without the scaling support, making it hard to read on my Lenovo
Yoga.

[Bug 1490169] Re: Cannot install Google Chrome or Atom debs due to "bad quality" error

2015-09-03 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
I just hit this problem again now when trying to install Skype. This is
a widespread issue. Someone on Google+ suggested this is due to a policy
change in lintian... should this bug be directed at that instead?

** Summary changed:

- Cannot install Google Chrome or Atom debs due to "bad quality" error
+ Cannot install common third-party debs due to "bad quality" error

** Description changed:

When I try to install the official deb packages for Google Chrome or

Unknown tag "binary-file-compressed-with-upx" in profile "ubuntu/aptdaemon"

It complains about binary-file-compressed-with-upx in the details for

[Bug 1490213] [NEW] Ubuntu Light renders incorrectly in Writer document

2015-08-29 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
Public bug reported:

See the attached screenshot. I loaded an ODT file into LibreOffice
containing my resume, which included date headers meant to be displayed
using the Ubuntu Light font. However, The font is rendered very heavy,
even heavier than the plain Ubuntu font!

In the screenshot, the top line is regular Ubuntu, while the second line
is *supposed* to be Ubuntu Light. Ubuntu Light does appear correctly in
the font drop-down, however.

[Bug 1450655] [NEW] Unable to create virtual machine; installation from .iso fails

2015-04-30 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
Public bug reported:

Whenever I try to create a virtual machine in Boxes, I can get all the
way through loading the boot menu from the given .iso file (in my case,
attempting to create an Ubuntu Server 14.04.2 LTS 64-bit virtual machine
on my Ubuntu GNOME 14.04 LTS 64-bit host OS), but after hitting the
Enter key to select the the option to install, Boxes backs out to the
main screen and just shows a blank black rectangle in the upper left
corner.

Just a guess as to where to check...but in compiz, maybe the problem is

functions?

[Bug 1302745] [NEW] Shut Down option in power cog menu brings up log out dialog

2014-04-04 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
Public bug reported:

Clicking the Shut Down option in the power cog menu brings up the log
out dialog after a recent partial upgrade. As such, it is no longer
possible to shut down the machine through the GUI; a workaround is to
manually call sudo shutdown now -P in the terminal.

[Bug 1266602] [NEW] Developer Web Site link for package in USC leads to 404 Not Found

2014-01-06 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
Public bug reported:

When I tried clicking the Developer Web Site link in the Ubuntu
Software Center for the python-git package, it takes me to a 404 Not
Found page. The URL it tries to take me to is
https://gitorious.org/projects/git-python/ ; perhaps this should be
https://gitorious.org/git-python instead, as Google suggests.

The USC says the version available for installation in Ubuntu 13.10
(where I found this bug) is python-git 0.3.2~RC1-2.

[Bug 1251441] Re: [Fujitsu LIFEBOOK T900] Stylus input stops working after resuming from suspend

2014-01-01 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
Okay, this is interesting. I found that I can confirm this bug on Saucy
using the 3.8.13.12 mainline kernel version, which according to
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/info/kernel-version-map.html is
equivalent to the 3.8.0-34.49 kernel I used in my test of updated Raring
(and there was no bug there). I expected the 3.8.13.13 kernel to exhibit
the bug (it does as well) and the 3.8.13.12 kernel to not show it based
on what I saw in Raring, so this surprised me.

Is it possible that this bug is not due to the kernel?

2014-01-01 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
Okay, I have tested several more versions back, and I can confirm the
bug is present all the way back to at least the 3.8.9-Raring version
(3.8.8-Raring is where I begin to run into problems like those described
in Comment #20, and the stylus stops working altogether).

[Bug 1251441] Re: [Fujitsu LIFEBOOK T900] Stylus input stops working after resuming from suspend

2013-12-30 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
@Christopher M. Penalver: I went to bisect the Ubuntu kernel versions
like I mentioned in the last comment, but the problem is present all the
way back in the 3.9.0-0.1 kernel (the earliest published version for
Saucy AFAICT), and attempting to run any earlier kernels from Raring
results in a stretched screen, no working WiFi/USB, and the stylus not
working at all.

I'm not sure if I am able to proceed and reliably pinpoint exactly where
the last good kernel version is given this, unless this is normal. I
have not done a bisection before and I am not sure if this means I am
doing it correctly. Should I proceed to the next step and start checking
out the source via git to build, and aim for revisions before 3.9.0-0.1?
I would like some advice here.

[Bug 1251441] Re: [Fujitsu LIFEBOOK T900] Stylus input stops working after resuming from suspend

2013-12-28 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
Sorry for the delay since the last update. My family's Christmas
excitement had to die down first. :P

I've completed the Bisecting Ubuntu releases section of the linked
wiki page from comment #16, and found that the bug is reproducible in a
fresh install of 13.10 (both before and after updates), but not
reproducible in 13.04 (both before and after updates). So, the
regression occurred between these two releases, then.

I'll do the next section shortly and try to find the responsible kernel
version.

2013-12-01 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
Thank you for the wiki link.

Since this is a school laptop which is dual-booted with a Windows 7
image supplied by my school, and we're entering final exams in a couple
weeks, I will hold off on doing the first step (Bisecting Ubuntu

as to avoid breaking anything during an important time. Please
understand the delay; I very much would like to see this bug resolved
and I will resume tackling it once this IRL stuff is done.

[Bug 1251441] Re: Stylus input stops working after resuming from suspend

2013-11-15 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
Thanks Joseph. I'll look into it.
Since I reported this, a friend suggested that I try logging out and back in to
see if that changes anything. That does seem to make the stylus start working
again when I do that, in case that changes anything. I'll add this workaround
to the bug summary.

** Description changed:

I'm filing this bug here as per a suggestion on Ask Ubuntu:
  http://askubuntu.com/questions/377047/which-package-should-i-file-a-bug-
  against-for-pen-input

I have a Fujitsu LifeBook T900 which accepts touchscreen input via a
stylus which comes with the machine. It works fine until I suspend the
laptop, such as by closing the lid, then resuming, at which point it
  immediately stops working.

A workaround is to restart the machine if this type of input is desired
and the machine was previously suspended since the last time it was
- booted.
+ booted. Another workaround is to simply log out and back in.

Keyboard and touchpad (mouse) still work while the bug is active. This
is a fresh install of Ubuntu 13.10; the same machine previously ran
12.04 LTS and did not experience the problem there.

[Bug 1251441] Re: Stylus input stops working after resuming from suspend

2013-11-15 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
Okay, I installed the mainline kernel and can confirm I'm running it
after a reboot:

chorton@chorton-LIFEBOOK-T900:~$ uname -a
Linux chorton-LIFEBOOK-T900 3.11.8-031108-generic #201311122252 SMP Wed Nov 13
03:53:29 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Unfortunately, after suspending and resuming, I still encounter the bug.

[Bug 1251441] [NEW] Stylus input stops working after resuming from suspend

2013-11-14 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
Public bug reported:

I'm filing this bug here as per a suggestion on Ask Ubuntu:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/377047/which-package-should-i-file-a-bug-
against-for-pen-input

I have a Fujitsu LifeBook T900 which accepts touchscreen input via a
stylus which comes with the machine. It works fine until I suspend the
laptop, such as by closing the lid, then resuming, at which point it
immediately stops working.

A workaround is to restart the machine if this type of input is desired
and the machine was previously suspended since the last time it was
booted.

Keyboard and touchpad (mouse) still work while the bug is active. This
is a fresh install of Ubuntu 13.10; the same machine previously ran
12.04 LTS and did not experience the problem there.

2013-10-18 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
Public bug reported:

To reproduce, either enter the Appearance section of System Settings or
run 'gnome-control-center background' in a terminal. While loading the
list of wallpapers, the window will suddenly close.

Terminal output from running the program:

I also ran this program using Valgrind using the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Valgrind and attached the valgrind.log file
generated.

This is on Ubuntu 13.10, which was just upgraded from 13.04 today.

[Bug 1199510] [NEW] Attempting to unlock sometimes goes to solid black screen

2013-07-09 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
Public bug reported:

I'm running Ubuntu 13.04 on my Toshiba Satellite A505-S6960 laptop, and
I noticed an incredibly annoying problem sometimes when I let my screen
lock and I try to get back in.

If I enter my password correctly, most of the time I'll just be taken to
a solid black screen. Once I move the mouse, the lock screen appears
again asking for my password. When this happens, the only way I can get
back into my desktop is to keep repeatedly trying to unlock until it
finally lets me in (after about 3 - 7 tries).

Once I'm back in the desktop, a crash report for gnome-screensaver comes
up asking if I want to report it. No indication of any associated bug
report is given with it, however, which is why I'm reporting this
manually.

[Bug 733349] Re: Minimize Application's Windows upon clicking its Launcher Icon

2013-06-16 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
I came here after seeing this bug resurface in a Google+ Community post.

I agree with #346 above: Unity just doesn't work that way, and is not
supposed to work that way. I personally never used this requested
functionality even on Windows; the minimize button is a much more
obvious way to handle that. Advanced users bothered by this can just
switch to another DE that they can then customize to their liking.
Contrary to what some very vocal people above and elsewhere have said,
not everyone wants this on their desktop.

The launcher icon is supposed to be for launching and spreading
applications. Perhaps a better solution would be to click the icon of an
already-running application to activate the spread, but include a couple
overlaid dash-style buttons in the background to minimize all windows or
the currently selected window. I'm not a designer, so I have no idea how
good this actually would be in practice, but IMHO it would be a pretty
good compromise and more usable to me than the suggested alternative
here.

Just adding my 2 cents.

[Bug 915945] Re: Unreadable labels with light wallpaper

Multiple text shadows can be defined. This was how the Salience theme
project got around a similar bug ( Bug 1025443 ), by defining four
shadows for desktop items: up, down, left and right. Blurring would be
nice, but this could be a possible temporary solution.

[Bug 853060] Re: ubuntuone-installer crashed with GError in function(): Failed to execute child process ubuntuone-control-panel-gtk (No such file or directory)

2013-04-10 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
@Mark Chapman This bug is marked Fix Released for Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and
12.10. You can simply get the fix by running updates through the Update
Manager if you have not done so already. If you are running Ubuntu
11.10, the fix is not available for that version and I suggest you
upgrade Ubuntu to a later version.

If you already have the latest updates and you are still getting this
problem, however, then I'd suggest you file a new bug report.

@gidantribal The default Ubuntu login screen shows the user's wallpaper,

[Bug 1157503] [NEW] 1024x768 is the highest resolution available on Toshiba Satellite A505-S6960

2013-03-19 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
Public bug reported:

After updates on my Raring Ringtail install a couple days ago, Ubuntu no
longer displays at my laptop's real resolution of 1366x768 anymore. It
displays instead in a square 1024x768 box in the center of my screen
instead, with black rectangles on either side of the screen. Figuring
the problem might just have been a buggy update, I made a LiveUSB with a
fresh ISO and can confirm the bug is there in the live session, too.

Note that GRUB and Plymouth still display suing the whole display at
full resolution. The bug is visible in the login screen and the desktop.

I have not overwritten my current Raring install yet, so I can go back
to that for additional debugging work if need be. I'm filing this bug
report from within the LiveUSB session using xdiagnose.

This is a pretty nasty regression and I'd like the sides of my screen
back, please. :)

A screenshot of the problem on my HDD install is available here:

[Bug 932103] Re: Cannot install MP3 playback support; silently fails

2012-12-09 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
I can confirm this is still the case in Ubuntu 13.04 Alpha 1. Worse yet,
my earlier workaround of installing gstreamer0.10-fluendo-mp3 manually
no longer works. This apparently leaves me with no legal means of
playing back mp3 files in Ubuntu.

It's disappointing that I have consistently run into this exact same bug
now across all of my installs of the past three releases with no
apparent fix available (with the sole exception of Oneiric). This is the
sort of thing that forces me to keep Windows around. :/

[Bug 1060989] Re: Report isn't sent after clicking Continue while details load

2012-12-05 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
I'm on Raring, and I get no visual indication that any sort of error
report is being sent anytime I get an Apport crash window, regardless of
whether Show Details is clicked or not. I used to get a progress bar, be
taken to Launchpad, etc., but now I get nothing beyond a window saying
something happened and asking if I want a report sent.

I wasn't sure if this was just an intentional change to streamline the
reporting process for testers, but after seeing this I am assuming this
is not the case.

[Bug 772986] Re: Launcher - Unity launcher single missing/invisible/blank icon

2012-11-13 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
I can confirm that the bug still exists on 12.04 in Unity 5.16.0 (I
reproduced it using LibreOffice Writer). However, @ibere note that it is
marked Fix Committed for the 5.0 series and milestoned to 5.18.0. This
means it has already been fixed but not yet released; the fix will go
out during the next SRU if I'm not mistaken, and then it will be Fix
Released, meaning you'll see the issue go away if you update to that
version once it's available and restart your system.

But first, the fix must be released alongside the other updates,
whenever those are ready. So, patience. :)

[Bug 896595] Re: Ubuntu does not remember LID brightness

2012-11-11 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
I can confirm having run into this bug on my Toshiba Satellite
A505-S6960 under Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and after installing Ubuntu 12.10 over
it. It's a big battery drain and I have to keep turning the brightness
down manually after logging in; it's very annoying.

[Bug 834733] Re: Lightdm should display user picture (wish)

2012-11-04 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
@linuxcub Perhaps GDM? At any rate, if you need to find a greeter which
can display user pictures and get instructions on how to install it,
perhaps you should instead ask a question at Ask Ubuntu (
www.askubuntu.com ), if it hasn't been asked already. I think you'll
find better support there than continuing to comment on an Invalid/Won't
Fix bug.

2012-10-06 Thread Christopher Kyle Horton
Public bug reported:

Occurred after I tried to rapidly maximize a window. `sudo lightdm
service restart` in a tty failed to restart the session (something
having to do with permissions, according to the error message it
produced in the tty). I used sudo reboot to restart my machine, then I
was greeted by multiple copies of this problem in Apport periodically.
