[Bug 1364544] Re: Openafs Not Building on arm64
Please find attached a debdiff applying the upstream patch and necessary packaging adjustments. While this is expected in the next upstream release, that is not expected to happen in time for bionic, making this change useful to adopt in advance of Debian, but only for release scheduling reasons (as Debian is better served by an updated git snapshot in due course). ** Patch added: "debdiff applying upstream port patch" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openafs/+bug/1364544/+attachment/5079945/+files/openafs_1.8.0~pre5-1ubuntu1.debdiff -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1364544 Title: Openafs Not Building on arm64 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openafs/+bug/1364544/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1752591] Re: CVE-2017-7651 and CVE-2017-7652
For clarity, the current debdiffs only address CVE 2017-7651, and I probably didn't add the right metadata to the changelog. I did not find the patches for CVE 2017-7652 to be trivial to port to the versions of mosquitto in Ubuntu artful or xenial. Bionic is not vulnerable to either, as a result of a recent sync from Debian. The use case I am supporting is largely unconcerned about the risk from CVE 2017-7652, so I am unlikely to put any effort into backporting that fix (and would prefer a separation of resolution for 7651 vs. 7652 unless if feels really easy to someone else (as 7651 is an immediate issue that likely affects xenial and bionic users). Anyone who has a current understanding of the correct metadata to put in debian/changelog is welcome to replace my debdiffs with corrected ones, including removal of my name from the changes if preferred (or leaving my name despite debian/changelog modification, if blaming me feels better at the time). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1752591 Title: CVE-2017-7651 and CVE-2017-7652 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mosquitto/+bug/1752591/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1066387] Re: D-I install menu, select Boot from first hard disk and it goes back to Language selection
Setting the syslinux status to Invalid for now: currently syslinux is being instructed to localboot 0x80 from the boot menu, which relies on the BIOS actually setting the first (non-syslinux-containing) disk to this address. For folk booting from remapped drives, this fails. Note that there may be a syslinux bug related to this issue, that syslinux may not have sufficient syntax to allow a menu item to express boot from a hard drive other than the one that just booted beyond reliance on BIOS calls (e.g. -1 to send 18h): in such a case, if someone wants to repoen this issue against syslinux to address that, rather than creating a new bug, I encourage them to unset the invalid status. ** Changed in: syslinux (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1066387 Title: D-I install menu, select Boot from first hard disk and it goes back to Language selection To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-cdimage/+bug/1066387/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 924508] Re: Lucid to Precise: must Conflicts and Provides/Break older wildmidi to prevent APT loops during upgrade
The attached patch looks correct to me, and I encourage it's application if anyone can verify it fixes the issue (as noted in other reports of this issue, I have been unable to replicate this at all). Note that *only* lucid-precise upgrades are affected, so this change only needs to be applied to precise. The upgrade path lucid-maverick-natty-oneiric-precise is safe, as is anything post- precise, from precise. Unfortunately, as there were no other changes in wildmidi in quantal, it may be required to push a no-op upload to quantal (without this patch) to ensure a forward progression of updates for precise-quantal-raring (development) upgrades. I expect to push a new upstream to raring, which would provide a larger version for upgrade, but if someone wants to verify and fix this before that happens, please also upload a no-change version-bump to raring to preserve the versions of the upgrade path. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/924508 Title: Lucid to Precise: must Conflicts and Provides/Break older wildmidi to prevent APT loops during upgrade To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wildmidi/+bug/924508/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

@Thomas, 959037 means that this issue potentially exists for everyone, rather than just those few folk with specialised needs (mine having been running both a virtualisation host and a tftp server on the same machine). The main issue being the racy nature of running multiple greedy dnsmasq configurations. There's likely a right way to do it, but it's tricky, especially as most of the potential solutions significantly complicate many of the current user-oriented use cases for dnsmasq. That said, I'm probably not the best person to own this bug any longer, having gotten stalled with the project that required tftp a couple years ago, and so not really trying to solve this. [Bug 819802] Re: Please refactor plymouth to remove the libdrm2 dependency when text themes are used
The last image I checked was about 100MB, so the DRM implementations represent less than 1%, although anything that can be removed from this is interesting, as 100MB is considered very large when compared to other base rootfs environments made available by other projects (e.g. TLIB). In principle, there's no reason that Core couldn't be built for other architectures: although nobody has yet volunteered to care for the images for other than armel. I'd be opposed to attempting to trim packages on an architecture- specific basis: while there are no current chipsets available that use Intel DRI and armel, there are always discussions surrounding any new SoC design, and Intel has previously produced devices supporting ARM instruction sets. Further, there are devices supporting ARM instruction sets that allow attachment of external bus devices, such as PCIe: while Intel does not currently produce a discrete graphics solution, there have been persistent rumours of such devices for several years. I believe there exists available hardware for all other included DRM implementations for all architectures currently in Ubuntu. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/819802 Title: Please refactor plymouth to remove the libdrm2 dependency when text themes are used To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/plymouth/+bug/819802/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 488380] Re: Freepats fails to install on Ubuntu Arm
Tested on a clean install of jaunty (from old-releases) and natty: unreproducible in both cases. I suspect it to be an artifact of the modifications to Ubuntu made in the default SmartQ images. Jaunty and Karmic are now both unsupported (and unsupportable, in the sense that we can't upload changes thereto), and the SmartQ 5 and SmartQ 7 devices cannot run more recent releases (due to the SoC used in the devices), making this unfixable for the reported environment, and unreproducible in more recent environments. [Bug 605694] Re: ubuntu for mipsel
Unfortunately, adding a PPA is likely one of the last steps in enabling a new architecture, as it requires that architecture to be fully supported in Ubuntu, and have working virtualisation. So, based on ports that have appeared in the past, the following things seem to need to happen in order for it to be done. 1) Someone needs to be maintaining an Ubuntu kernel for the architecture (using all the Ubuntu sauce, etc.) 2) Someone needs to be actively maintaining the Ubuntu toolchain to ensure it works on that architecture 3) Someone needs to have bootstrapped a good chunk of the archive (Ubuntu Desktop is often the first target) 4) The architecture needs to be supported in Debian (although compiler defaults, etc. may differ) 5) There need to be a sufficient set of folks willing to test on that architecture Once all those conditions are met, it's mostly a matter of getting trusted buildds into the Canonical data centre. I don't know the precise procedure for that, but I'd guess that if the 5 conditions above were met, and hardware was available, one might start by making a request to rt.ubuntu.com. Note that this may take a long time to get a response, as there are many more time-critical tasks that the folk who process the RTs need to do. All that said, I'll note that someone had a working toolchain port for Intrepid, so it's not infeasible to do something. -- ubuntu for mipsel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/605694 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 665191] [NEW] Update Manager stays open when it doesn't need to do so
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: update-manager Update Manager opened in a minimised state. I noticed it was open, and it reported there were 31 updates available. I figured it had probably been a while since it opened, so clicked Check to get it more up-to- date. It then reported there were zero updates available. I closed it. This wasn't a very useful experience. So, let's look at why this happened: I don't tend to use update-manager to manage my packages. It had probably been open for a couple days (I don't tend to reboot or shut down), and I would have noticed the available updates in byobu, and installed them without having ever noticed update-manager having been launched. (when I notice it launched, I tend to press Check to get updates faster than the regular however many days). This is entirely expected behaviour. What I think *should* happen is that if update-manager is running, and the user has not interacted with it in some time (maybe a couple hours), it ought see if the apt cache has been updated since it last checked, and if so, check again to make sure there are still updates, and if there are none, close itself silently. [Bug 665202] [NEW] syncpackage depends on DEBFULLNAME being set
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubuntu-dev-tools I ran `syncpackage -v` to see what would happen, with the following results: $ syncpackage -v Traceback (most recent call last): File /usr/bin/syncpackage, line 409, in module default = os.environ[DEBFULLNAME]) File /usr/lib/python2.6/UserDict.py, line 22, in __getitem__ raise KeyError(key) KeyError: 'DEBFULLNAME' To me it appears that it fails looking for the DEBFULLNAME environment variable. In the many years I've been working with Debian format packages, I believe I've never set this (I tend to use DEBEMAIL=name name em...@domain which works just fine). I suspect that firstly, syncpackage shouldn't rely on this being present (as none of the standard development tools require it), and secondly that if it's absent, it shouldn't crash (programs should never crash: if something doesn't work, tell the user *why* without making them interpret the traceback). I realise that whilst I'm fussing with the cleanest way to integrate this with jasper and oem-config, someone else might want to actually test it :) So, I've attached the short python script that enables universe in a mirror-clean way using the python API. Proper patches pending completion of the investigation into when the apt-cache is updated and how during first boot for the jasper side (given that we need to sort this in future distributions before fixing in past, and the ubuntu-netbook-efl-default- properties way to solve it being unforgiveably bad as a proper solution, plus potentially not working properly when run as part of a livecd- rootfs build). ** Attachment added: Python script to enable universe using the API https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/maverick/+source/ubuntu-netbook-efl-default-settings/+bug/659754/+attachment/1692579/+files/enable.py -- Universe multiverse are not enabled on OMAP4 preinstalled image https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/659754 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 659754] Re: Universe multiverse are not enabled on OMAP4 preinstalled image
This is a failure of jasper-initramfs to update the enabled software- sources at install time. Given that no new images are being produced, fixing this in jasper is insufficient to help maverick users. As a result, the following strategy shall be employed. 1) jasper-initramfs shall be updated to update the software-sources during the first-boot experience for natty 2) this will be listed as a required feature for the planned rewrite of jasper-initramfs 3) Some *other* package needs to get a stable-release-update in order to enable the software sources OR every user will need to be asked to do so manually. For item 3, the suggestion is to use ubuntu-netbook-efl-default-settings as this is only enabled by default for armel Ubuntu Netbook images, and two of the three images are affected by this bug, therefore the potential for regression for other users is minimised. Such regression potential may be further minimised by checking the architecture and subarchitecture of the updating platform in the updated postinst script prior to asking for universe and multiverse to be enabled in software- sources, so that only subarchitectures for which images were built with the buggy jasper-initramfs are updated. Note that this only addresses the Ubuntu Netbook armel images: it may be that other target packages must be selected to address any other flavours that may have issues. -- Universe multiverse are not enabled on OMAP4 preinstalled image https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/659754 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

How much RAM was available on the tested omap device? At least for me (256MB), the OOM killer kills KDE before it can get started, which results in a black screen: if this is the issue, it's notabug, as the minimum RAM requirements for all flavours of Ubuntu are 384MB (yes, some flavours can kinda run with less than this, but not officially). -- Kubuntu Maverick on Omap3 Omap4: screen goes black and never comes back https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/657281 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 652470] Re: Shell scripts require execute permission to execute
The description of What happens instead seems to identify three issues: Firstly, that you want nautilus to execute scripts without the execute bit set: stuff marked not executable is *intentionally* not executable. This is not a bug. That said, if it were a bug, it wouldn't be a bug in nautilus, but in the MIME handler for #! scripts. I don't happen to know which package deserves this as WONTFIX, but will ignore that aspect of the bug. Secondly, that you want nautilus to offer the option of executing scripts as root. This is provided by the nautilus-gsku package (thanks to rbhatta for investigating). Making this work falls into the category of support request, but I'll forego opening a question and answering it, as I've answered here. Thirdly, that files with certain extensions don't seem to need the execute bit set. I believe this may be related to bug #355005 : that said, if the upstream patch for that reaches Ubuntu, the MIME types application/x-ms-dos-executable and application/x-msi will still have this issue, and should rather behave like other programs, only allowing execution if the executable bit is set. I don't have a good environment to test WINE, but have reassigned this bug for triage by folks more familiar with WINE. ** Package changed: nautilus (Ubuntu) = wine1.2 (Ubuntu) -- Shell scripts require execute permission to execute https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/652470 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 640926] [NEW] qemu-kvm-extras-static postinst should be version guarded
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: qemu-kvm When recently upgrading qemu-kvm-extras-static, I received the following output: Setting up qemu-kvm-extras-static (0.12.5+noroms-0ubuntu6) ... update-binfmts: warning: /var/lib/binfmts/arm does not exist; nothing to do! Ideally the postinst should be smart enough to know when this transition is required, and when it isn't required. This might be accomplished by looking for outdated packages, running on upgrade rather than configure and checking $2, checking for the existence of the registration, etc. The || true prevents it from blocking install, but it's a lot of text to store in the logs of a lot of systems to work around a differently named, less flexible package that was present for one release cycle (and no longer a supported one). No huge rush, but this really ought be fixed prior to next LTS, so that the LTS can be nice and clean. [Bug 637947] Re: no sound devices on current ES2.0 boards
The kernel solution seems to need a machine driver: something akin to sound/soc/omap/sdp4430.c (either a new file, or adding runtime detection for the alternate hardware to that file (renaming appropriately, etc.). Documentation on this lives in Documentation/sound/alsa/soc/machine.txt In addition to simply providing a base driver to activate the hardware, such a kernel solution should also strive to provide appropriate defaults and naming such that as udev discovers the devices, the information passed to pulseaudio is sufficient for accurate and correct autoconfiguration. The userspace solution should be considered only as a fallback. The acceptable changes to pulse's daemon.conf will be commited with the solution to bug #623242 , and are essentially unrelated to this bug (problems with pulse configuration and codec performance vs. missing driver). There is significant interest in not setting flat-volumes = no, as this is considered to give users the most intuitive response to use of the audio controls available in the OS. If the kernel is unable to set a sensible default configuration on initialisation, the omap4_amixer_config.sh should be replaced with files in /usr/share/alsa/ as documented in comment #1. Entries like amixer cset name='Earphone Driver Switch' 1 would become CTL{name}='Earphone Driver Switch', CTL{value}=1. An entry needs to be added to /usr/share/alsa/init/00main to load this new file conditionally based on CARDINFO. The proposed changes to pulse's default.pa are firstly disabling module- console-kit, which is undesireable, as this is used for such purposes as allowing user switching and audio at the GDM prompt as well as post- login; and secondly static loading of various modules: this static loading is unsuitable as a default for varied hardware, but it is better to rely on module-udev-detect: if the issues cannot be solved in the kernel, and appropriate defaults cannot be set for one reason or another, additional udev rules ought be added to provide pulseaudio with the appropriate information to load the modules correctly only where that hardware is present. -- no sound devices on current ES2.0 boards https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/637947 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 637947] Re: no sound devices on current ES2.0 boards
I believe the correct way to fix this is by creating a board-specific driver that will indicate the wire layout from the codec (which driver exists) to the ports on specific boards. Failing this, there may be ways to hardcode the wire layout either (incorrectly) in the codec driver, or (less bad) by setting quirks based on some other discoverable factor about the board. If no kernelspace solution is available, a hardcoded asound.conf in a separate package (or created by jasper) is is very heavy-handed and inflexible way to address the issue, and has significant potential to break other audio paths (e.g. USB audio). Much better would be to add codec-specific initialisation into a configuration fragment in the /usr/share/alsa/ distributor configuration directory. I'm not deeply familiar with this, but I believe that adding a /usr/share/alsa/init/omap4 or similar would be appropriate as a fallback for buggy kernel drivers (with appropriate conditional inclusion from 00main). -- no sound devices on current ES2.0 boards https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/637947 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
