[Bug 1964740] Re: after upgrade virtualbox fails
@Chris Guiverc thank you for your recommendations and, yes, I am aware of these sites and, no, I did not find a recognition of this problem and, no, I did not find a solution either. The problem is, of course, twofold. Firstly there is the situation that my VMs won't run, but secondly, there is the situation that the Software Updater failed to prevent that (first) situation. Basically, I am alleging that the Software Update team has not done their job properly. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1964740 Title: after upgrade virtualbox fails To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/1964740/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Yes, the string "jouw maar" is what was inserted randomly. [Bug 1915486] Re: Alt-Tab not functional anymore
@Alex Hung, you are missing the point. The vast, I repeat vast, majority of computer users are accustomed to Alt-Tab and if you do not care to join the de-facto standard then you are painting yourself into an (elitist) corner. And it is worth pointing out here as well that to, again, the vast majority there is no valid distinction between a window and an application, simply because all applications run in the foreground and if some application, for example BOINC, runs in the background then that is explicitly made clear. Therefore, if a window is closed then the assumption by the vast majority of users is that this closes the application as well. Also, saying that the GUI can be customized is myopic. The growing standard is that applications have different skins to suit the user's taste. The same thinking is evident in the different flavors of Ubuntu. The ideal IMO would be a Windows skin, an Apple skin and an Android skin. Lastly, cavalier attitudes like yours are part of the reason that Linux has such a steep learning curve. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1915486 Title: Alt-Tab not functional anymore To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1915486/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1915486] [NEW] Alt-Tab not functional anymore

[Bug 1915097] [NEW] kernel needs to put a date/time-stamp in the log at boot
Public bug reported: The log as output by dmesg does not contain the date-time of last boot. This seems a serious oversight. Surely, the kernel is able to query the clock? Knowing the exact date-time could be crucial in cases of repeated reboots. Anyway, a date-time stamp would seem a reasonable requirement from an auditing perspective. [Bug 1914846] Re: cannot upgrade from 16.04 to 18.04
I had Software & Updates set to use the Australian server. I switched to the main server and the update proceeded without problems. IMHO this is NOT a matter for the support sites, but for whomever it concerns (at Canonical, I presume) to get the people maintaining the Australian server to do what they need to do. Providing a mirror is very commendable, but brings with the OBLIGATION to keep it up-to-date and no excuses accepted. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1914846 Title: cannot upgrade from 16.04 to 18.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-release-upgrader/+bug/1914846/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1581594] Re: constantly shows wrong temperature (99°C )
I have copied below the information from bug 1912873 for convenience -- SMART attribute 231 of the KINGSTON SA400S37480G (SBFKK1B3) is defined as "SSD_Life_Left" (see https://media.kingston.com/support/downloads/MKP_521_Phison_SMART_attribute.pdf). [Bug 1767299] Re: Ubuntu 18.04 Installer creates swap partition too small
I installed 16.04 on a hand-me-down laptop, because I need to support another system that is on 16.04 and it is easier for me to have an identical system I installed 16.04, because later versions do not allow remote control using remmina (# 1790251, 1790249 & 1741027). System is a 8Gb laptop with a 480Mb ssd. Installer created a swap of 976Mb. Install version was 16.04.5. (Note that my DVD with 16.04.3 creates a swap of appropriate size.) The system will hang when used heavily, but does recover. However, contrary to earlier comments, rebooting during such a 'freeze' is *not* guaranteed safe. On my system it has multiple times corrupted the file system which caused boot to fail and which required a run of "fsck /dev/sda1". After I followed instructions found on help.ubuntu.com/community/SwapFaq, I now have an 8.3Gb swap and the system does not hang any more. I spent two weeks before I realized that the problem was with the swap size. In my opinion it is bad to change something as dramatic as swap-size. The installer should ask questions and give options. *** This is not an "opinion" and consequently I have re-opened it *** -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1767299 Title: Ubuntu 18.04 Installer creates swap partition too small To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/partman-auto/+bug/1767299/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1794899] Re: ghex both installed and not-installed
I am essentially a non-technical user, but open source appeals to me so I am happy to contribute what I can. Unfortunately, the culture at Ubuntu is incomprehensible to me and I have effectively given up. When they say that Linux has a steep learning curve they are not joking, but I am always prepared to learn. But then I find out incompatibilities between apt, synaptic and "ubuntu software" and I throw up my hands in disgust. And now there is snap installs which is different from regular installs of which nobody told me. Do you people think I am clairvoyant or what? So, no, I do not know what my problem is. I find something that is wrong, I tell you about about, I expect you to fix it and I refuse to accept responsibility for something that I don't understand. If you want my cooperation then you will need to protect me from bugs that should have been caught during testing. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1794899 Title: ghex both installed and not-installed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ghex/+bug/1794899/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 992430] Re: ubuntu update to 12.04 LTS wipes ~/.local data
Sorry, Paul, but I have lost my faith in the idea of volunteer support without strict oversight (which I gather is how things are working here). There have been too many problem that I felt were important that were graded low importance or even placed on the wishlist. I get the strong impression that this is the consequence of essentially a CLI mindset while the rest of the world is GUI. I plan to one day write to Canonical about this, but I have other priorities. [Bug 1751421] Re: software updater causes mouse buttons to stop working
I believe that the criteria as set out in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Importance allow me to argue as follows. Firstly, I have a mouse arm and use the keyboard by preference, but there are programs (and Software Updater is one of them) that do not follow what appears to be the standard in filling the active button with orange (for an example, see attached). This means that when I am in doubt and the lighting is not adequate I must use the mouse to prevent myself from clicking on the 'wrong' button and using the mouse often leads to a painful arm which restricts me in my work. Secondly, my mother is basically computer illiterate and panics when things go 'wrong' in the sense of 'not as expected'. Thirdly, I believe that we are not alone in this. >From this I conclude that I have grounds to ask for rating this bug to be of higher importance. Specifically, I ask for a rating of preferably "high" on the grounds of criterion "Has a severe impact on a small portion of Ubuntu users (estimated)", but at least "medium" on the grounds of criterion "A usability issue that does not limit the functionality of a core application". ** Attachment added: "Selection_138.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/1751421/+attachment/5197793/+files/Selection_138.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1751421 Title: software updater causes mouse buttons to stop working To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/1751421/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
