[Bug 2059170] [NEW] RTL8852BE can't connect on high 5Ghz channels

2024-03-26 Thread Ivan Baldo
Public bug reported:

Doesn't connect to channels above 64, so when my AP decides to use for
example channel 116 I get disconnected.

Can confirm that on Windows 11 it works in those high channels.

Even a "nmcli d w" doesn't show any WiFi's with high channels when in
other devices I can see them.

Using Ubuntu 24.04 Beta updated as of today, it did happen with 23.10
and 22.04.4 too.

[Bug 1852025] [NEW] [TOSHIBA NB515, Realtek ALC269VB, Speaker, Internal] volume slider problem

2019-11-10 Thread Ivan Baldo
Public bug reported:

Everytime I boot there is no sound.
With QasMixer I am able to fix it by selecting hw:0 (HDA Intel) and increasing
the second slider from bottom to top, that slider says "auriculares" in spanish
which is "headphones".
I am not using headphones though and I didn't found any other way of increasing
that slider in the standard programs that come installed by default in Ubuntu
19.10 (and many other older releases).

[Bug 1830502] Re: apparmor uses excessive memory leading to oom kill

2019-10-22 Thread Ivan Baldo
The biggest problem is that it isn't easily disabled because it is hardcoded in
the script instead of being in /etc/apparmor/parser.conf.
Instead of hardcoding, it would had been better to just update that conffile
and let dpkg update it if the user didn't change it (which is highly likely) or
on new installs.

In /lib/apparmor/functions we have this:
# LP: #1383858 - expr tree simplification is too slow for some
# policy on 32bit ARM, so disable it for now
cache_extra_args=
if [ -d "$PROFILES_CACHE_VAR" ] && [ "$pdir" = "$PROFILES_VAR" ]; then
cache_extra_args="-O no-expr-simplify"
fi

So now for machines with 2Gib of RAM and Snaps, Ubuntu 18.04 has become
unusable.
I know the minimum requirements are 4Gib but it did actually work fine with
2Gib before so it is a bit sad to loose that capability.

My suggestion is to just revert that change and do it in parser.conf
instead, so at least we have the option to easily modify it to retain
some 2Gib support.

Thanks a lot for considering this!!!

[Bug 1619753] Re: systemd-fsck does not show results of rootfs filesystem check in logs or journald

2019-09-26 Thread Ivan Baldo
But it should be persisted by default in /var/log, so there should be a
unit somewhere that if the log has information then it appends it in a
file and gets logrotated.

That way, if a server or PC is acting strange, one could look there to
see if something strange happened to the filesystem and when it
happened.

The log shouldn't be lost...

[Bug 96198] Re: sound buttons change the wrong sound output, and general lack of polish in automagic setup and sound preferences

2016-10-07 Thread Ivan Baldo
Hello.
With Ubuntu 16.04, when I connect an USB headset, the sound starts to play in
the headset instead of the speakers, thats correct, but, unfortunately, the
volume control in the top right of the screen don't control the volume of the
headset but instead of the speakers!
The headset also has a volume control and it controls the volume of the
speakers and not the headset.
To control the volume of the headset, I have to go to sound configuration,
select the headset, and then everything works as expected, I can control the
headset volume.
But doing that step shouldn't be necessary, when I connect the USB headset and
then sound starts playing on the headset, then the volume controls should match
and control the headset volume, not the speakers.
Thanks!

[Bug 1608287] [NEW] No display output on Radeon HD 8470D AMD A6-6400K AsRock FM2A58M-VG3+ after upgrading to 16.04 from 14.04

2016-07-31 Thread Ivan Baldo
Public bug reported:

Everything was fine on this PC with 14.04, but it doesn't display anything on
16.04.
It doesn't hang because I am able to press CTRL+ALT+F1 and push the power
button and it shutdowns normally.
Booting with "nomodeset" works (with slow software rendering of course).
Upgraded the BIOS from 2.5 to 2.8 and using all the default settings: nothing.
Enabled xenail-proposed-updates and installed everything from there: nothing.
Tried some BIOS tweaks but didn't fix it either.
Radeon HD 8470D AMD A6-6400K AsRock FM2A58M-VG3+.
I have access to this PC (my father PC) once a week to try things.

[Bug 1575937] Re: creation of startup disk makes usb unwritable and unformattable

2016-05-28 Thread Ivan Baldo
I think that was the previous behavior in older releases.
Seems like a regression, why is it this way now instead of how it was before?
I only have one pendrive at all times with me and I always had Ubuntu in it and
my files, now do I have to carry two pendrives?
Thanks.

Re: [Bug 1081019] Re: Benchmark for disks always fails on 32 bit systems

2015-05-23 Thread Ivan Baldo
The good news is that the fix has been applied upstream, so it will
trickle down to Debian and then to Ubuntu I guess, maybe in next version
15.10.
Too bad that it took so long just for a one liner patch and a
simple test...

[Bug 1328965] Re: 3.13.0-29 kernel includes backport of 3.14 16-bit app restrictions but not override method causing wine win9x to fail

2014-07-11 Thread Ivan Baldo
It works!
Tested with 3.13.0-32-generic AMD64.
DOSEmu with Paradox application, I think it uses VCPI since it complained about
that before.
I don't know how to change the tag though.
Also, this problem is present in Ubuntu 12.04 though I migrated from that
hoping to fix the problem and I don't have it available to test now, maybe you
could backport it to that kernel too.
Thanks!

configuration allows to adjust the brightness but the display does nothing, it
is always at full brightness.
I may try some things esporadically since it is not my laptop, but I may take
a long time to try them :-(.

2014-05-19 Thread Ivan Baldo
In my humble opinion, several kernel options should be tested before each new
Ubuntu version to see what is the best one at the time.
This is one such option.
Isn't the CFQ scheduler in better shape in Ubuntu 14.04?
Maybe not, I am just asking :-).
Thanks for the info! :-)

[Bug 1297234] Re: Live session set wrong keyboard layout and time zone

2014-05-19 Thread Ivan Baldo
If I select Spanish then I expect a default of Spanish keyboard, not english,
and a second alternative of Latin American keyboard; English as a third
option
What is expected:
- select Spanish language.
- select Try Ubuntu.
- open GEdit.
- type ñ on my keyboard and get an ñ on GEdit.
Currently, when typing ñ we get ';' instead, because the keyboard is English
by default...
Regarding the timezone setting, it should be detected by using the users public
IP address automatically somehow.
I don't remember what happened in 12.04 but I think the keyboard was correctly
set to Spanish by default, the timezone not so sure though...
Thanks for improving this! Love Ubuntu Live :-)

[Bug 1178849] Re: Doesn't show on DevHelp

Hello Quinn!
Thanks for looking into this.
Though I don't understand what you ask.
DevHelp just doesn't show the GTK+2 book, only GTK+3, it doesn't crash and
there isn't a backtrace :-/.
If you install libgtk2.0-doc 2.24.17-0ubuntu2 in Ubuntu Raring does it show in
DevHelp 3.6.1-0ubuntu1 or is it something specific to my installation?
Thanks for your help!

[Bug 600676] Re: [Realtek ALC888] Recording problem

2011-07-14 Thread Ivan Baldo
I followed the advice of Daniel T. Chen:
$ cat /proc/asound/version
Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.24.
Compiled on Jul 13 2011 for kernel 2.6.32-32-generic (SMP).

It still doesn't work.
What else can I do?
Thanks.

[Bug 600676] Re: [Realtek ALC888] Recording problem

2011-07-14 Thread Ivan Baldo
I got a microphone, when trying with the 1.0.24 ALSA drivers it didn't work,
then downgraded again to the 1.0.21 drivers that come with Ubuntu 10.04 and the
microphone works.
So we cannot use the integrated microphone and ALSA 1.0.21 works better than
1.0.24, which is worrysome...
I have to return this laptop to his owner now so I cannot do more tests, this
is a new Ubuntu user, lets see how it goes, having to connect a microphone is
annoying because he uses Skype often... and I don't know how much time the
battery will last because the screen brightness adjustment doesn't work (see
#587081).
Lets hope one day vendors would test their systems with Linux and fix any
problems before they hit the market...
Sorry for the spam, have a nice day!!!

I am using Ubuntu 11.04 and I am not affected by this bug anymore on that
version.
I don't know about the other versions of Ubuntu.
Feel free to close this report unless you want to test and fix it in 10.04 LTS.
Thanks.

[Bug 643916] [NEW] Update to 1.28.1 in Lucid to fix bugs.

2010-09-20 Thread Ivan Baldo
Public bug reported:

I am particularly affected by https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=457990
in an application I am developing.
I don't know if it affects other applications in Lucid.
Though updating seems like a good idea since that release only fixes bugs.
Thanks for considering.

Re: [Bug 395565] Re: atheros wifi not working with kernel 2.6.31-1

2009-11-02 Thread Ivan Baldo
That card is handled by the driver ath5k now.
The problem is that it doesn't work on Karmic with its kernel 2.6.31
(don't remember Ubuntu version but the latest one as of yesterday).
To solve it, I had compiled manually a 2.6.32-rc5 kernel and it
worked beautifully.
Maybe you can do that too, or try to force the install of madwifi,
or try to use ndiswrappers.
Ideally Ubuntu would update its kernel with the bits that fix this
card from the ath5k driver, lets cross our fingers :-).
Good luck.

ones) are automatically listed, but this time they don't appear on that
list (nVidia drivers are listed and installed, so it works fine). They
 neither appear on Synaptic

Re: [Bug 99547] Re: [apport] depmod crashed with SIGSEGV in strcmp()

2009-09-08 Thread Ivan Baldo
This doesn't seem related to the depmod problem.
First try removing the package
linux-restricted-modules-2.6.28-15-generic.
If the error persist when trying to remove that package and if you
know posix shell scripting, then edit the
/var/lib/dpkg/info/linux-restricted-modules-2.6.28-15-generic.postrm ,
put debug statements to see where it fails and try to avoid the error or
ignore it.
If the error persist when trying to remove that package and if you
don't know posix shell scripting, then delete the file
/var/lib/dpkg/info/linux-restricted-modules-2.6.28-15-generic.postrm.
Then try to remove the package again, it should work now.
After that, install both packages again: sudo apt-get install
linux-image-2.6.28-15-generic linux-restricted-modules-2.6.28-15-generic.
Hope this helps! Good luck!

Re: [Bug 99547] Re: [apport] depmod crashed with SIGSEGV in strcmp()

2009-09-02 Thread Ivan Baldo
Hello.
You can fix it by removing the kernel that is giving problems, then
removing the directory /lib/modules/VERSION_OF_THE_KERNEL_REMOVED, then
reinstalling the kernel.
DKMS has a caching system for modules also, so if the problematic
module is one generated by DKMS and it has a corrupt cached version, you
must tell DKMS to rebuild all its modules or clear its cache, I don't
remember how I did that though and I don't have access to an Ubuntu
machine right now, but if someone asks then I will try to give the
proper instructions.
Hope this helps anyway.
Bye.

El 02/09/09 12:32, Matt Zimmerman escribió:
To those asking for a workaround:

The situation which triggers this crash is a corrupt or invalid module in
/lib/modules. Naturally, depmod should not crash, even in this case, and
that is the bug which is now believed to be fixed in Karmic.

In order to work around the problem, it's necessary to remove or replace the
invalid module. I don't have a step-by-step recipe to hand for this at the
moment, so if you don't know how to do this, just sit tight until someone
posts one. If a workaround is available, it should be added to the bug
description at the top so that it's immediately visible to everyone.

[Bug 330834] Re: Depmod segfaults when configuring linux-image-2.6.28-8-generic

2009-08-18 Thread Ivan Baldo
Try this:
sudo depmod -a 2.6.28-8-generic

If you run only
sudo depmod -a

it updates the modules database for the running kernel, not the kernel
just installed, the command above maybe gives you more information.

Hope this helps.

[Bug 18928] Hardy 8.04 Beta, selected Spanish and assumes I live in Spain

2008-04-12 Thread Ivan Baldo
When booting Hardy 8.04 Beta with the alternate CD it immediately shows a list
of languages to choose from, so I chose Spanish.
But then during installation, it never asked where I live and assumed that I
live in Spain, then it asked for my timezone but it showed only timezones from
Spain.
Being able to select Spanish language right from the boot menu is a good thing,
but then, when the installer starts, please allow to select the country, the
