[Bug 540306] Re: Xsane preview window not working in Karmic

2020-12-18 Thread JPM
I had this happening with the Xsane preview window in Ubuntu 20.04.

Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS
XSane version 0.999
XSane apt package version 0.999-8ubuntu2 (amd64)

Solution was to open the preview window from the Windows menu, then
closing XSane with ctrl+q. After launching XSane again preview window
works correctly again.

[Bug 1893564] [NEW] Kernel issue and then system freeze when USB device goes to sleep

2020-08-30 Thread JPM
Public bug reported:

This issue is very closely related to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1871143

I have a microcontroller plugged into a USB port, doing CDC-ACM. I have
either Arduino or Cutecom open with a serial terminal to the device.
After some idle time the microcontroller will go into sleep mode and
therefore usb will stop working. On previous versions of Ubuntu the
serial port will close and the Arduino or Cutecom terminal will be
notified and closed too. On Ubuntu 20.04 this does not happen, and the
UI will lock up. After some time the entire Gnome session will lock up
and I need to force power cycle my computer.

I have kept dmesg tailing in a terminal when this happens and I see the
following log:

[Bug 1880723] Re: gnome-shell high CPU usage on Ubuntu 20.04

2020-05-26 Thread JPM
After an update and restart, switching desktops feels snappy again.
Looking at htop the cpu usage is still higher than expected. And strace
still shows many errors:

[Bug 1880723] Re: gnome-shell high CPU usage on Ubuntu 20.04

2020-05-26 Thread JPM
After logging out and back in the CPU usage seems lower, but without anything
but a terminal open gnome-shell is still the biggest user of the CPU at around
1-2% continuously. After gnome-shell the second highest user is:
Xorg vt2 -displayfd 3

I see there is an update for gnome-shell, so I will try an update now.

I see the calls and errors to recvmsg climbing. What does this mean, and what
is causing this?

[Bug 1879173] [NEW] Keyboard battery low notification

2020-05-17 Thread JPM
Public bug reported:

My wireless logitec keyboard is apparently at 10%. Every time I come
back to my computer and start typing I get a low battery notification
popup. This popup requires me to click on it to close it. Also an alert
sound is played when the popup is shown.

This is becoming really irritating as it seems to be impossible to
disable this alert and its sound.

[Bug 1798166] Re: “Mouse battery low” notification appears even when all notifications disabled

2020-04-28 Thread JPM
I'm using Ubuntu 20.04 and every time I start typing on my keyboard, the
"Keyboard battery low" alert pops up, obscuring a large part of the
screen. This is becoming really annoying. I do not want to completely
disable all power notifications as I'm using a laptop and need to know
when the laptop will die.

On a fresh Ubuntu 20.04 install I ran into this same issue. Tap to click
works fine on the desktop, but it does not work on the login screen. The
inconsistent behaviour can be very confusing.

Won't it be best to make the behaviour on the login screen and on the
desktop match?

[Bug 980766] [NEW] Remmina fullscreen jumps between workspaces

2012-04-13 Thread JPM
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 12.04, 64bit
remmina 1.0.0-1ubuntu5

Using a dualscreen setup with remmina open in fullscreen mode on one
workspace on one screen, switching to another worspace
(ctrl+alt+left/right) will make remmina jump to along, or to another
workspace. Clicking on the moved fullscreen remmina will some times make
it move back to the original workspace.

It should stay on the workspace/screen it was opened on.

[Bug 798747] [NEW] Time applet refreshes a few seconds late

2011-06-17 Thread JPM
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: unity

Ubuntu 11.04, 64bit
Unity 3.8.14-0ubuntu1~natty1

When running the 'date' command in terminal and comparing the output to
the Unity time applet, it seems like Unity updates the time a few
seconds after the real minute change. This delay can be anything from 0
to 10 seconds.

Unity should increment the minute immediately when the real minute
change happens, and not a few seconds late.

[Bug 775705] [NEW] Random logout in Ubuntu 10.10 64bit

2011-05-02 Thread JPM
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 10.10, 64bit

Since yesterday my computer randomly logs out and immediately displays
the gdm login screen. This happened 4 times already since last night.
Never before that. At least three of the times it happened right after I
clicked the cross at the top to close a window. All three times it was a
different program (pidgin, nautilus, chrome).

I'm using the default ubuntu theme with gnome.

I can not find anything in my logfiles that explaines this and all that
I have done in the past 48h was to update my system with apt-get update.
No new hardware or software was installed.

A summary of the log files around the latest logout is attached.

[Bug 644644] Re: Frequent PA crashes during playback - pa_stream_cork() failed: Connection terminated and pa_stream_writable_size(): Connection failed

2010-11-30 Thread JPM
Acer Aspire One D250 here.
Audio chipset: 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation N10/ICH 7 Family High
Definition Audio Controller (rev 02)

When I start pulse manually in a terminal with killall pulseaudio; pulseaudio
it gives this error, but continues to run:
E: alsa-util.c: snd_pcm_avail_delay() returned strange values: delay 8 is less
than avail 656.
E: alsa-util.c: Most likely this is a bug in the ALSA driver 'snd_hda_intel'.
Please report this issue to the ALSA developers.

I encounter the bug when playing an avi file in totem. VLC works fine. MP3 in
totem also works fine.
After reboot the first avi in Totem works fine, but any other one thereafter
fails. In the terminal where I manually ran pulseaudio it just says killed.

[Bug 631185] Re: gnome-network-properties does not set apt proxy correctly

2010-09-06 Thread JPM
In Part1, it is clear that gnome-network-properties writes the proxy
configuration to the /etc/apt/apt.conf file. This is correct, but the
Ignored Hosts is not written to this file. Therefore I see at least
Part1 as a bug in gnome-network-properties.

251811 might be ralated to Part2.

[Bug 631188] [NEW] Addition of Cape Town

2010-09-05 Thread JPM
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: tzdata

Ubuntu 10.10 and all before.
Version Installed: 2010l-1

When installing Ubuntu 10.10beta Maverick, it is very difficult to
click on Johannesburg as it is very near to Maseru, Maputo, Gaborone and
Mbabane. There is also no country boundaries or dots for cities on the
map. In Ubuntu-netbook, one can search for a city, but Cape Town does
not return any results. Why Johannesburg? It is not even the capital of
South Africa.

What should happen: Africa/Cape Town should be added as a possible
location to click on or to search for. People that are new to Ubuntu
might not know that Johannesburg is the timezone and location to choose
when in South Africa (Harare/Pretoria is the Windows one.). It is also
rather difficult to find the exact spot on the map to click to choose
Johannesburg, and the mouse pointer's tip is almost as big as the space
between Gaborone and Johannesburg.

[Bug 614076] [NEW] camE upload fail using passive ftp

2010-08-05 Thread JPM
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: came

camE uploaded fine with active mode ftp (passive ftp set to 0 in the
config file). Due to changes to our firewall I had to change it to use
passive mode (passive ftp set to 0 in the config file). The upload of an
image then fails after the SIZE and RETR commands with a 550 error (RETR
550 remote file not found).

After debugging I commented out line 1002 in webcam.c in camE's source:
/*curl_easy_setopt(curl_handle, CURLOPT_INFILESIZE, st.st_size); */

After this change, a compile and install, my passive ftp uploading works
fine.

[Bug 534225] Re: [lucid] setup_http_proxy_env constructs no_proxy incorrectly

2010-05-08 Thread JPM
Also got the problem here. I thought it to be Bug #432631, but this
description fits better.

export no_proxy=$(echo $no_proxy | sed 's/,$//')
Does help to alleviate the problem, but does not fix it. Thats why I think both
this bug and #432631 is the culprits in breaking apt through a proxy in 10.04.

We on a university campus, behind a proxy server, really want this bug
to be fixed. We have local ftp repo's and use http internet repo's. But
the ignored hosts in gnome-network-properties is ignored.

[Bug 478980] Re: cannot remove gnome-panel icons completely

2010-02-08 Thread JPM
Will this be fixed in 10.04?

I run Ubuntu on a few headless computers with very little RAM and
booting off flash drives. Turning off icons helped immensly. 9.10 is in
all aspects, except GUI, worse than 9.04. If I could, I would have still
be runnig 8.04 today. But sadly one needs drivers...

Maby Lubuntu 10.04 will be my next install.

[Bug 472245] Re: gnome-panel hangs with almost 100% CPU usage

2009-12-29 Thread JPM
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 187540 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/187540

I also have this issue at the moment. Ubuntu 9.10, 64bit. Gnome-panel
has a cpu usage of between 80 and 100% and is unusable.

I plugged one of my ntfs hdd's out yesterday. It does have a fstab
entry. Will replug it now and check what happens.

AND IT WORKED!

Everything is fine now. Thus, this is not a duplicate bug. This is a bug
samewhere between gnome-panel - fstab - fuse - ntfs-3g.

My ntfs-3g version is: 2009.11.14 integrated FUSE 27

My fstab line for the ntfs hdd looks as follows: /dev/sdb1 /media/250B
ntfs user 0 0
