[Bug 2064689] [NEW] Fix inaudible HDMI/DP audio on USB-C MST dock

2024-05-02 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
HDMI/DP audio isn't working on Dell's USB-C dock.

[Fix]
Leave Maud/Naud as is, since the hardware programmed the right value
already.

[Test]
HDMI/DP audio always comes out from the USB-C dock after the fix is
applied.

[Where problems could occur]
The commits affects _all_ HDMI/DP audio that connects to Intel GFX. So
all of them are affected hence the regression risk isn't low.

Therefore let the commit sits in OEM kernel first. Stable kernels can
pull in this fix after it's getting thoroughly tested.

OK, it's likely caused by mutter upgrade, but let's make sure that's the
case. Can you please downgrade the mutter to verify the old version
works?

Please run `sudo apt install libmutter-10-0=42.9-0ubuntu5 mutter-
common=42.9-0ubuntu5 gir1.2-mutter-10=42.9-0ubuntu5` to downgrade
related packages.

[Bug 2060422] [NEW] Avoid creating non-working backlight sysfs knob from ASUS board

2024-04-07 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
Backlight sysfs knobs created by asus-wmi don't really work, hence
systemd-backlight services are in failed state.

[Fix]
Ensure the backlight device are really present

[Test]
With the fix applied, the backlight sysfs knobs are not longer present
under /sys/class/backlight, so there's no more failed systemd-backlight
service.

[Where problems could occur]
Though highly unlikely, but if there's working device that is created
even when the WMI read is 0x, the device will be missing.

[Bug 2059263] [NEW] Fix acpi_power_meter accessing IPMI region before it's ready

2024-03-27 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
ACPI error can be found in kernel message:
[3.717920] ACPI Error: No handler for Region [SYSI] (ab9e62c5)
[IPMI] (20230628/evregion-130)

[Fix]
On Dell systems that have IPI0001 device, ensure IPMI region is ready
before acpi_power_meter invokes any ACPI method.

[Test]
With the patch applied, no such error can be found in kernel message.
acpi_power_meter sysfs also works correctly.

[Where problems could occur]
If asynchronous probe is disabled, the device drivers that probe after
acpi_power_meter needs to wait until the completion is done, hence the
boot time might be slower.

[Bug 2051074] Re: Mirror mode doesn't work when panel only supports one refresh rate with reduced blanking

2024-03-12 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Verification steps:
1) Enable proposed
2) sudo apt install mutter=45.2-0ubuntu4 (and other mutter binary packages)
3) Reboot
4) Connect external monitor to the affected system
5) Switch display modes to mirror mode
6) Observe the mirror mode can be set successfully. So the issue is resolved.

[Bug 1976503] [NEW] Power cycle USB ports on shutdown/reboot

2022-06-01 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
USB storage can be stuck in USB reset loop after reboot. More reboots
don't help the situation, unless it's re-plugged.

[Fix]
Power cycle USB ports on system shutdown/reboot.

[Test]
The USB storage survived 300 times of reboots, and it works under each
reboot cycle.

[Where problems could occur]
One potential problem I can think of is S5 WoL over USB ethernet. Since
the port power and its associated ACPI power are turned off, WoL may
stop working, if WoL over USB is a thing.

[Bug 1976438] [NEW] Fix sub-optimal I210 network speed

2022-05-31 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
I210 may not reach maximum speed on Intel Alder Lake platforms.

[Fix]
Following the datasheet to ensure I210 is not in idle state when CPU is
using PCIe link to perform TX.

[Test]
With the fix applied, the I210 TX/RX speed can reach ~94x MBps.

[Where problems could occur]
Since this changes how hardware idles, it can slightly increase power
consumption.

According to AHCI spec v1.3.1, "7.3 Native Hot Plug Support", once LPM
is enabled the hotplug needs to be disabled.

So I agree with 2), I think we should write document and let users know
how to change the LPM for hotplugging detection.

For 3) I don't think we need to change the way it works, because there
can be lots of corner cases to cover, and not all servers need AHCI
hotplug feature. We just need a good documentation to instruct users how
to disable it.

4) is kicking the can down the road, the same issue will re-appear once
those servers get upgraded.

[Bug 1971933] Re: [Regression] Unable to wake laptop using trackpad input

2022-05-22 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Please find the input device node via sysfs and enable the wakeup.

For instance, on my laptop I can do this to enable wakeup:
# echo enabled >
/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:15.0/i2c_designware.0/i2c-0/i2c-SYNA30B3:00/power/wakeup
