[Bug 2063029] Re: Symlinks /bin, /sbin, /lib ... disappeared after root disk full

2024-06-01 Thread Matthias Meier
Following circumstance caused the strange behavior:

When the root disk went full, I tried to free disk space by deleting the
content of the /tmp directory (sorry, I forgot to mention this).

... and when using apt-btrfs-snapshot and doing a 'apt update' the btrfs
partition will be mounted under /tmp/apt-btrfs-snapshot-* .

So deleting /tmp actually deleted the root disk what crashed the system.

but it's needed to start building openjdk-8 on i386 on new releases.

the use case should be known to you, it didn't change over time. There
are legacy apps built for i386 only, also using the client VM for i386.

[Bug 2063129] [NEW] Argparse API change breaks argcomplete

2024-04-22 Thread Matthias Lüscher
Public bug reported:

Description: Ubuntu Noble Numbat (development branch)
Release: 24.04
python3-argcomplete: 3.1.4-1

Python argparse introduced an API change that breaks argcomplete. The upstream
version of argcomplete got fixed here:
https://github.com/kislyuk/argcomplete/commit/54a4846b3a774cd9037167898f3cce38ba9d58e8

I detected the issue using my python based tool edi. The issue can be
reproduced as follows:

1. Install edi according to
https://docs.get-edi.io/en/latest/getting_started.html#installing-edi-from-the-package-repository
2. Start to type "edi -v project" and hit tab for auto completion. The first
level sub command will be proposed instead of the second level subcommand.
3. Patch /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/argcomplete/packages/_argparse.py
according to the above commit.
4. Start to type "edi -v project" and hit tab for auto completion. The correct
second level commands such as "make" will be proposed.

** Affects: python-argcomplete (Ubuntu)

[Bug 2060811] [NEW] FFe updating lxml to the 5.2.1 release

2024-04-10 Thread Matthias Klose
Public bug reported:

updating lxml to the 5.2.1 release allows us to gid rid off the lxml-
html-clean module into a separate package lxmö-html-clean (already in
noble), and demote it to universe This module is responsible for almost
all CVEs in lxml in the past years.

Changes in 5.2.1 compared to 5.1.0:

5.2.1 (2024-04-02)
==

Bugs fixed
--

* LP#2059910: The minimum CPU architecture for the Linux x86 binary wheels was
set back to
"core2", but with SSE 4.2 enabled.

* LP#2059977: ``Element.iterfind("//absolute_path")`` failed with a
``SyntaxError``
where it should have issued a warning.

* GH#416: The documentation build was using the non-standard ``which`` command.
  Patch by Michał Górny.

5.2.0 (2024-03-30)
==

Other changes
-

* LP#1958539: The ``lxml.html.clean`` implementation suffered from several
(only if used)
security issues in the past and was now extracted into a separate library:

  https://github.com/fedora-python/lxml_html_clean

Projects that use lxml without "lxml.html.clean" will not notice any
difference,
except that they won't have potentially vulnerable code installed.
The module is available as an "extra" setuptools dependency
"lxml[html_clean]",
so that Projects that need "lxml.html.clean" will need to switch their
requirements
from "lxml" to "lxml[html_clean]", or install the new library themselves.

* The minimum CPU architecture for the Linux x86 binary wheels was upgraded to
  "sandybridge" (launched 2011), and glibc 2.28 / gcc 12 (manylinux_2_28)
wheels were added.

* Built with Cython 3.0.10.

2024-04-10 Thread Matthias Klose
Public bug reported:

please consider updating poke to 4.0.0. .it's a prerequisite for poke-
elf. Looking at that for having a working replacement for patchelf
--set-soname.

The package is in universe and has no reverse dependencies.

[Bug 2060779] [NEW] patchelf --set-soname broken on non-amd64 architectures

2024-04-10 Thread Matthias Klose
Public bug reported:

patchelf --set-soname broken on non-amd64 architectures.

This is seen at least for fckit. the build fails later in
dh_strip/debugedit/readelf, however when removing the "patchelf --set-
soname" call, and replacing the second patchelf call with chrpath, the
dh_strip succeeds.

Adding an account gets stuck. Calendars won't update.

2024-02-27 Thread Matthias Dieter Wallnöfer
Today I got the update notification to the latest snap release
22.0.6261.39. So I have tried that one with a fresh profile and my old
one and fortunately both are working now. So I guess the issue has been
fixed, thanks a lot!

[Bug 2055040] Re: Software rendering under Wayland mode

2024-02-26 Thread Matthias Dieter Wallnöfer
1. Confirmed.

2. I am not able to respond to this question since I have started to use
the experimental snap for a while now. The intention was to get the
smartcards over OpenSC to work as stated here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1967632/comments/57

3. Done, please have a look at the attachment.

[Bug 2055040] Re: Software rendering under Wayland mode

2024-02-26 Thread Matthias Dieter Wallnöfer
The output is:
> tracking: latest/edge

Exactly, I had the impression that some interactive websites with
animations ran particularly slow and the CPU fan began to become very
noisy. htop revealed the CPU's load of nearly 100% due to the chromium
processes. This was the reason that I have tried to retrieve the same
websites on the Firefox browser (always with the official snap and
Wayland as a compositing manager) where I hadn't any difficulty at all.
So I have checked the chrome://gpu's output and noticed the cause.
