[Bug 772774] [NEW] Natty Installer will not let user type mount point
Public bug reported: When installing Natty using the Desktop CD and selecting to partition the disk myself, the disk partition editor no longer allows me to manually type in a mount point, e.g. /backup, restricting the selection to the entries in the drop-down list. However, I can workaround this by copying and pasting /backup into the field. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/772774 Title: Natty Installer will not let user type mount point -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 463347] Re: devices not detected -- too many open files
For as long as I can remember, going back several Ubuntu versions, I've been able to plug in my external USB backup drive and it has automatically mounted on /media/Backup and opened a Nautilus window. However, about 2-3 weeks ago this just stopped working and I have had to manually mount my external USB backup drive or reboot my laptop to get auto-mounting working again. Having found this bug report, running the sudo udevadm control --reload-rules seems to get auto-mounting working again. -- devices not detected -- too many open files https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/463347 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I also spotted this today. I was using a full screen terminal (less distracting) and I wanted to make the terminal have a solid colour background. [Bug 549078] Re: terminal transparency not changeable
It seems this might be something to do with the new Ambiance and Radiance themes. [Bug 532633] Re: [light-theme] please revert the order of the window controls back to menu:minimize, maximize, close
Personally, at the time of writing this, I do not like this change as it seems to be more a change for changes sake in an effort to simply be different. There seems to have been an element of groupthink in the design and decision process. This is a pity because for the most part, despite a few edge cases here and there, I actually quite like the look of the new Lucid themes. The top-left of the window is now overloaded and looks cluttered with the window buttons, window title, application menus, and icon bars. Even more so when the window is maximised and you have the Gnome Panel and Gnome Menu Bar in the top-left as well. The old Window layout was more balanced with the actual application icon, window title, and window buttons spaced across the top of the window. (I have not tried this with Gnome Shell yet, but I can foresee problems unintentionally entering the Activities Overview. And just to add to the confusion when using the Activities Overview a close button appears on the top-right of the window under the mouse.) Even after several days usage I am struggling to over come my muscle memory. I still instinctively move the mouse to the upper-right to maximise, minimise, and close my windows. When I then look at the top- right of the window to actually select the window button I want I have found myself momentarily confused (Hey, where are the window buttons?) before correcting myself (Hey, they are on the left now, remember.). I still get caught out using the maximise and minimise buttons. Perhaps this is being made more difficult because I am also using other computers running Windows and Karmic so the existing muscle memory is being re-enforced using these. Whatever the reason, I am finding it frustrating and it makes the time to perform the intended action longer. I am sure there are usability and GUI experts out there that would have a field day explaining why this is the case. Thankfully, unlike some other desktop environments, with Ubuntu I can change the theme and window button positions if I decide this change is not for me in the long-term. I guess time will tell. -- [light-theme] please revert the order of the window controls back to menu:minimize, maximize, close https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/532633 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 479679] Re: Nautilus hangs trying to generate thumbnail previews in folder
It's good to hear from others also experiencing this problem. I guess I should clarify my original description to make it clear that Nautilus does not hang, as in crash, it just seems to be forever trying to generate the thumbnails. Therefore, it would seem impossible to provide a backtrace. (Sorry, I could not find a better idiom to describe the problem.) The comments made so far confirm my experiences. Every Sunday evening, I go through my Home directory and Downloads directory deleting and (perhaps more importantly) moving new files, in readiness for my weekly rsync to an external backup drive. It is then, that I notice the problem described. I normally have to reboot my laptop to get Nautilus to behave as expected. -- Nautilus hangs trying to generate thumbnail previews in folder https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/479679 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 479679] [NEW] Nautilus hangs trying to generate thumbnail previews in folder
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus When using Nautilus in Ubuntu 9.10 I have noticed that it appears to hang when browsing folders that contain images and PDFs. When browsing a folder none of the image or PDF thumbnails are displayed and the GNOME throbber never stops animating, which suggests that Nautilus is trying to create the thumbnails, but cannot. The only way to view the contents of the folders is to disable the creation of thumbnails for other previewable files in the Nautilus preferences. I have only noticed this behavior in the the last few days and I am certain I had no such problems when I first installed Ubuntu 9.10.
