[Bug 1470032] libpst: 1470032: please forward patch to new libpst project on GitHub

2022-01-20 Thread Paul Wise (Debian)
Martin Møller: since my last post on this issue, Carl Byington has
suggested I take over the libpst project and I have done that and have
moved the project to GitHub.

https://github.com/pst-format/libpst/

Please file an upstream issue explaining the problem. Please ensure you
attach a PST file & commands that can be used to reproduce the problem.

Please also file an upstream pull request for the patch. Please mark
the pull request as a draft since you mentioned it needs cleaning up.

If you're no longer affected by this or don't have time to forward
things to the new upstream then I may eventually try to work on it.

[Bug 1932523] Re: iotop can raise UnicodeDecodeError because /proc/pid/status can have non-utf-8 data in Name

2021-10-07 Thread Paul Wise (Debian)
Thanks, I have forward-ported the patch, added a commit message and
pushed the patch upstream:

https://repo.or.cz/iotop.git/commit/443737ec620a699286b9b2e44dbcaac53f553812

At some point in the next few weeks I'll make a new release, upload it
to Debian and get it synced to Ubuntu.

Since the patch is only a workaround, it would be good to have a proper
fix; guess the encoding using chardet or similar and coerce the bytes
into Unicode. Any help with that is welcome.

[Bug 1932523] iotop: crashes with UTF-8: thanks for the patch

2021-09-05 Thread Paul Wise (Debian)
Hi folks,

Mingun: thanks for the patch, I would like to commit it upstream, but I
need to know what author name/email I should use for the commit and
what commit message to use.

If you know how to use git and already have a local commit, please use
the `git format-patch @{u}` command get a patch file with that info.

Once the commit author/message are available, I will commit the change
upstream and later I will update the Debian/Ubuntu package.

PS: until this gets fixed properly in Debian/Ubuntu, you might like to
use the iotop-c package from Debian/Ubuntu.

[Bug 1799444] myrepos: 1799444: received signal 1

2019-10-13 Thread Paul Wise (Debian)
I've bisected this issue and it is caused by this commit:

http://source.myrepos.branchable.com/?p=source.git;a=commitdiff;h=15e7a50ac16554a8eafe659cc28621fcbb388e5a

I've found that is a simple solution is to turn off pty size handling:

   my $pty = IO::Pty::Easy->new(handle_pty_size => 0);

I'm not sure if this is the correct fix so I haven't committed it yet.

[Bug 1821272] [NEW] ubuntu-archive: devel is only a symlink rather than a suite

2019-03-21 Thread Paul Wise (Debian)
Public bug reported:

The Ubuntu devel suite isn't a proper suite, just a symlink:

   $ curl -s http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/devel/Release | egrep
'Suite|Codename'
   Suite: disco

I would expect this output instead:

   $ curl -s http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/devel/Release | egrep
'Suite|Codename'
   Suite: devel
   Codename: disco

People using devel in their sources.list get a warning from apt:

   $ chdist create ubuntu-devel
   Now edit ~/.chdist/ubuntu-devel/etc/apt/sources.list
   Run chdist apt ubuntu-devel update
   And enjoy.
   $ sed -i '/ubuntu/{s/#//;s/dapper/devel/}'
~/.chdist/ubuntu-devel/etc/apt/sources.list
$ chdist apt ubuntu-devel -qq update
All packages are up to date.

Thanks for the ping, I usually look at Ubuntu iotop bugs only when I'm
about to make an upload to Debian, which hasn't happened for a while
because Guillaume Chazarain hasn't made a release recently.

I think the issue is that iotop uses the current time to calculate
duration instead of using monotonically increasing time, which means
that when you change the time backwards, it gets a negative duration
and that causes some calculations to be incorrect.

Please test the attached patch and if it is correct I will include it
upstream and make an upload to Debian once stretch is released. The
patch can then be synced to Ubuntu. Please note that the patch relies
on Python 3.3 or later, so it won't work on anything older than trusty.
If it works then I'll try to make it work on more Python versions too.

This warning is actually occurring on a Debian wheezy system running the
Debian derivatives census. If you don't want to remove the unnecessary
Multi-Arch field then I suppose I can add a workaround to filter it out.

https://wiki.debian.org/Derivatives/Census

The warnings will also occur when using earlier versions of Ubuntu but
having vivid in sources.list for some specific packages that weren't in
utopic. The warnings will also occur when having a chdist for vivid on
Debian wheezy or Ubuntu utopic.

[Bug 66566]

2014-02-08 Thread Paul Wise (Debian)
So now there are two types of users: those who are annoyed by the
current default and those who would be annoyed by any change in the
current default. The usual way to deal with multiple differing user
requirements is to add configuration knobs to support them. Why is that
not a viable option?

[Bug 1179781] [NEW] If-Modfied-Since undhandled case causes apt lists corruption with https repositories

2013-05-13 Thread Paul Wise (Debian)
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

Users of apt repositories that use https will occasionally recieve an
error message and not be able to update properly:

W: Size of file /var/lib/apt/lists/partial/archive.example
.com_dists_precise_main_binary-amd64_Packages is not what the server
reported 0 25118

This should be backported to Ubuntu precise because some companies may
be delivering their internal apt repositories over SSL for security.

[Test Case]

Install apt-transport-https and setup an apt repository delivered over
https. Do some updates and eventually the above error will happen.

[Regression Potential]

I've patched the Ubuntu precise version of apt and found no issues.

[Other Info]

This was reported to Debian first and is fixed in Debian unstable:

http://bugs.debian.org/705648

The maintainers of apt in Ubuntu have not yet synced this to saucy.

[Bug 999535] Re: clamav-unofficial-sigs: 999535: fixing in LTS

2012-05-24 Thread Paul Wise (Debian)
AFAICT, clamav-unofficial-sigs is in universe so I don't think it is
supported by Canonical for LTS releases so I doubt they will do the
update. I am not a member of Ubuntu so I cannot do any updates outside
the normal automatic copying from Debian to Ubuntu. I only look at
Launchpad in case there are some bugs that might apply to Debian.

[Bug 999535] clamav-unofficial-sigs: 999535: using obsolete version

2012-05-21 Thread Paul Wise (Debian)
This has been fixed in the latest version that Ubuntu automatically
imported from Debian by dropping msrbl from the default list of sigs. I
would suggest one of the following solutions:

Set mbl_dbs= in the configuration file.

Install newer version from newer LTS, probably compatible with lucid.

Request a backport to lucid:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuBackports

Upgrade to the latest LTS, lucid is quite old.

In any case the bug is fixed so I am closing it.

[Bug 897411] iotop 0.4.4 is in precise/universe

[Bug 897411] Re: iotop crashes every start

2011-12-24 Thread Paul Wise (Debian)
iotop 0.4.4 has reached Ubuntu, so iotop will no longer crash.

Linux itself now requires root privileges to access the information
required by iotop. This was changed in response to the discovery of a
security issue (CVE-2011-2494) caused by exposing the taskstats data to
non-root users.

2011-11-02 Thread Paul Wise (Debian)
As I wrote in the Debian bugreport about this, Linux no longer allows
non-root users to get at the per-process I/O throughput information
needed by iotop, as a result if it causing security issues
(CVE-2011-2494):

https://lkml.org/lkml/2011/10/1/170

The crash itself will be replaced by an error when iotop is next
syncronised from Debian.

[Bug 724022] Re: [Pkg-fonts-devel] Package naming preference for non-ttf formats (eg. PSF)

2011-07-15 Thread Paul Wise (Debian)
I guess you didn't notice, but in Debian we are moving to a new font
package naming policy. We are getting rid of the format-specific
prefix for font packages and going for fonts-[foundry-]fontname, where
the foundry is completely option and should only be used for
disambiguation purposes.

Also, do the tools for building console fonts still exist in Debian? I
thought they were removed long ago and that we can no longer build

[Bug 724022] Re: [Pkg-fonts-devel] Package naming preference for non-ttf formats (eg. PSF)

Having binary packages all called f-[f-]name but with different
contents (for example, TTF, vs. PSF) doesn't work.  I would appreciate
some guidance, or suggestions on how to disambigute these.  For
example the inclusion of 'psf-' or 'console-' as a prefix, or postfix.

I think I would be putting all the formats in one package, or using
fonts-[foundtry]-fontname-console.

Are PSF files also used on the console on FreeBSD or Hurd?

[Bug 785390] Re: iotop crashes with UnboundLocalError

2011-06-27 Thread Paul Wise (Debian)
An update:

Looking at the code, it is a bug in the Python curses wrapper, that is
fixed in python 2.7:

http://bugs.python.org/issue5622

As a workaround until this is fixed or Ubuntu switches to python 2.7,
please install python2.7 and run iotop like this:

python2.7 /usr/bin/iotop

Does that work for you or is there some other error?

[Bug 791051] Re: Chromium B.S.U game's start screen lettering is blocked and blurred

2011-06-16 Thread Paul Wise (Debian)
I guess you mean this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nyWFrk9nL-A

Here are 3 games you can try:

Warzone2100
Neverball
Supertuxkart

Please run these commands in a terminal and paste the output:

lspci
dpkg -l | grep xserver-xorg-video
glxinfo | grep ^OpenGL

There is the Debian games team, who maintain many of the games in Debian
(and Ubuntu copies our packages automatically):

I cannot reproduce this on Debian with GNOME 2 running on an Intel GPU
with Intel drivers.

Which graphics card do you have?

Which graphics driver do you use?

Which desktop are you using?

Are you using desktop compositing?

Does it happen when you disable compositing?

Do any other OpenGL games have this issue?

I need to know how you messed up your system so badly that a file can
exist and not exist at the same time.

I very much doubt this is a graphics driver problem.

Please run these commands:

which warzone2100
ldd /usr/games/warzone2100
ldd $(which warzone2100)
cat /etc/ld.so.conf /etc/ld.so.conf.d/*

Please attach the full strace output not just part of it.
