[Bug 966122] Re: White rectangle in top left corner
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 940603 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/940603 I am seeing the exact same thing, and have so for a while. From what I can tell it has to do with Chrom{e,ium} 18.x and notifications. The white box appears when I have a gmail notifications specifically. I have been seeing this for a while, and have been trying to figure it out. From what I can tell it is not a window as you can click through it and I can't use Alt-grab to move it. It simply seems to be a region of the screen that won't repaint. Video memory corruption? Ah, I also noticed it has a drop shadow, so it kind of acts like a window - or maybe compiz is simply treating it as one. For troubleshooting I exited Chromium (18.x) and the white rectangle doesn't go away. Even exiting all apps doesn't make it go away. It does go away if I logout and back in again. I then installed the stable version of Chrome (which was at the time 17.x). I didn't see this for a while, but it returned when Chrome was upgraded to 18.x. Further, I noticed it appears after a gmail notification comes up. Specifically, I had several gmail notifications appears in a row and the white rectangle appeared. I exited Chrome, logged out and back in again and tried to reproduce by having several people ping me in IRC (I am using a web- based irc client) but couldn't make the rectangle appear. This morning I got a single notification from gmail and the white rectangle appeared. This appears to me to be a problem with Chromium, but I'm struggling to get good troubleshooting information as I can't get any information on the window. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/966122 Title: White rectangle in top left corner To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/indicator-appmenu/+bug/966122/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 940603] Re: white box randomly shows up at top left corner blocking applications from using stuff under it
I can't seem to get the rectangle on the white box with the same dimensions. Also, I've tried using Super-d when the blue rectangle looks like it is where the last Chrome notification came up and I get no output in ~/.xsession-errors. I'm not sure what super-d is supposed to do as it never seems to have an effect on ~/.xsession-errors. Should I be running compiz from the command line? [Bug 949024] [NEW] The same region of my screen goes blank
Public bug reported: I haven't figured out when exactly this happens, but it happens frequently. At some point I notice a white rectangle overlaid in the upper right corner of my screen. It doesn't seem to be caused by any application because quiting all applications doesn't make it go away. The only way I can make it go away is to either logout and login again, or restart compiz from a terminal. I run: `compiz --replace /dev/null 21 ` In a terminal to restart compiz. Even after doing this the blank white rectangle will re-appear at some point later. Sorry I can't pin point how to reproduce, but let me know if there something more I can get you. [Bug 949040] [NEW] After disconnecting a second monitor compiz can't find certain apps in the current workspace
Public bug reported: I plug in my monitor into the VGA port and have Chromium running with multiple windows. I drag some of the Chromium windows to the secondary display then later on I disconnect the secondary display without moving those windows manually back to the primary display. It use Alt+Tab to go to another application window (not Chromium) and when I got to Alt+tab back Chromium doesn't show up. It does show up in the launcher on the left, so I can switch to windows that way but it still doesn't work in Alt+tab. For some reason if I switch to another workspace and then back to the first workspace it now recognises Chromium. I've used Chromium as an example, but I have seen this with LibreOffice and Firefox. [Bug 947025] [NEW] Windows maximise only on the secondary display
Public bug reported: Often when I try to maximise a window that is on the primary display it will move to the secondary display instead. Here is what I did just now: I have a Chromium window that I want to move from the secondary display to the primary display, so I drag the window over to my primary display, and drag the title bar to the top of the screen. Result: The window maximises, but on the secondary display instead. Same scenario, but instead of dragging the window to the top I use the window controls to maximise the window. Result: The window maximises, but on the secondary display instead. Same scenario, but I try to maximise on half the primary display by dragging to the left (or right). I'm doing this just to test really. Result: It works as expected and the window changes dimensions to fit in the left (or right) half of the primary display. Workaround: If, after dragging the window to my primary display, I resize the window to make sure that it fits fully w/in the dimensions of the primary display it will maximise on the primary display as expected. Therefore, I suspect the problem is that some part of the window is hanging off-screen and Compiz assumes I want to move the window to the other display. This is a poor assumption, and quite honestly very frustrating. My secondary display is quite a bit larger than the primary and this means this scenario happens frequently. [Bug 831436] Re: Upon opening GNOME Activity Journal never gets past Loading journal
So I stopped in the zeitgeist daemon (`zeitgeist-daemon --quit`), backed up my zeitgeist database (~/.local/share/zeitgeist/activity.sqlite) and deleted my zeitgeist database. Then I started zeitgeist-daemon again (`zeitgeist-daemon --replace`) and started gnome-activity-journal. Now gnome-activity-journal starts fine, but of course I have no history. I stopped zeitgeist-daemon, restored my backup of the zeitgeist database and started zeitgeist-daemon in debug mode this time (`zeitgeist-daemon --log-level=DEBUG --replace`) and piped stdout and stderr to a file. I see the former behaviour in gnome-activity-journal (stuck at Loading Journal) and as I watch a tail of the log file I see after about 10 seconds a bunch of dbus timeout errors. I will attach the log file. According to zeitgeist-daemon the database is fine: [DEBUG - zeitgeist.sql] Core schema is good. [Bug 828586] [NEW] Bluetooth mouse no longer works, but is listed as Connected
Public bug reported: Yesterday I upgraded some of the bluetooth components and now my bluetooth mouse doesn't work. When I click on the bluetooth indicator and mouse over Bluetooth Laser Travel Mouse I see the option to Disconnect (indicating the system thinks it is currently connected). I tried restarting the bluetooth service with `sudo service bluetooth restart` and that does not resolve the issue. I then tried removing the device from the configured devices list in the GNOME Bluetooth Settings and re-added it but this still did not resolve the issue. [Bug 828593] [NEW] Gwibber window scrolls too fast when using the scrollbar

[Bug 819684] [NEW] No video after logout on Lenovo x220
Public bug reported: Not every time, but many times when I logout the screen goes blank and never comes back. I try switching to a text login (i.e. vt2) and I still get nothing. The only way to rectify the situation is to switch to a text vt - even though there is no video - and press the power button to initiate a controlled shutdown (not a hard power off). [Bug 818018] [NEW] gnome-keyring-daemon refuses to start
Public bug reported: I have just done a fresh install of Ubuntu 11.10 from the daily live CD from 29th July 2011. After installation, I could not connect to any wireless network or even my mobile broadband connection. I restored my home directory to see if maybe it was just the lack of a keyring and that still didn't help. Checking the wireless connections I noticed that a) none of my previously saved networks were listed and b) the one I had been trying to connect to was listed, but had no password filled in. I filled in the password for the WPA2 network and connected just fine. I checked seahorse to see if the password was saved and was informed seahorse couldn't connect to gnome-keyring-daemon. When I try to start the gnome-keyring-daemon from the command line, here is what I get: $ gnome-keyring-daemon gnome-keyring-daemon: error getting process capabilities, aborting I'm not sure how to debug this, so please let me know what other information I can give you. [Bug 791169] Re: Picture disappearing when Display Port is connected
Fwiw, I had the same problem, but also couldn't get things working in Windows. I updated the Intel drivers in Windows and now it works in Ubuntu. [Bug 794013] [NEW] When in dual-screen mode desktop is not painted / repainted with second generation Sandy Bridge graphics
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: unity When connecting an external monitor the panel appears at the top of the external monitor, but the desktop area is completely black. In addition, there is a black strip at the top of my primary screen. As I mouse over the launcher on the left the tool tips appear and never go away and some of the icons are scrambled. Will attach a screenshot that will likely demonstrate the conditions. I tried using the Ubuntu, Ubuntu Classic, Ubuntu Classic (No effects) and Unity 2D sessions and only the Ubuntu session exhibited this behaviour. Dual monitors worked fine in all the other sessions, so afaict this is not a problem specific to xorg, the Intel drivers or compiz (though I can't conclude it doesn't involve those components). [Bug 788532] [NEW] U1 music store plugin severely delays banshee startup
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: banshee Everytime Banshee starts a blank window appears, then after a few seconds it turns grey and stays grey for about 20 seconds, then finally the UI populates. I ran Banshee with --debug and piped the output to a log file using tee. I watched the log file while Banshee starts and as soon as all the plugins are loaded the U1 music store plugin start iterating over every music file I have purchased checking whether it has been copied to ~/Music. If the file already exists then the log says something like not copying because this file already exists in ${HOME}/Music/. During this exhaustive check is when Banshee's window goes grey (which is I think Compiz telling me the window is not sending updates and inactive). As soon as those checks end, Banshee paints the window and I can use Banshee. I thought maybe the problem was that the files didn't need to be in ~/Music, so I deleted any files in ~/Music that were already in ~/.ubuntuone/Purchased from Ubuntu One/. On next startup the log file showed the check w/o the not copying messages and Banshee started somewhat faster (but by no means fast). I noticed I missed one file so I deleted that file in ~/Music and reran Banshee and watched the log file. This time again all the files were back in ~/Music and Banshee took forever to start. This may have one other side effect. I noticed that many of my purchased songs show up multiple times in my Library. For instance, I purchased a song call Hello by Martin Solvig and that appears in my library five times. Looking in ~/Music I see the file has been copied multiple times so I have the same file name with (n) appended to it. If I delete the dups they just reappear over time. This all seems very broken and wrong. 1. Why does the U1MS plugin need to check every time for purchases it has already recognised? 2. Why do the files need to be copied to ~/Music when it could just watch ~/.ubuntuone/Purchased from Ubuntu One/ 3. Why do I keep getting multiple copies of purchased songs even after I delete the duplicates? Will attach my latest log file. [Bug 788532] Re: U1 music store plugin severely delays banshee startup
OK. The problem was that I had checked the option to copy music to my library when importing. I unchecked that option and cleared out all the duplicate files in the file system as well as in my music library. Now startup is much faster. I guess the base bug is invalid, though this is still pretty broken behaviour. Seems like a problem in Banshee where it shouldn't import a file multiple times. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/788532 Title: U1 music store plugin severely delays banshee startup -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 745780] Re: multiple prompts from gnome-keyring
Ok, working though this I have a work-around, but not a solution. Someone else can probably come up with a cause. :-) I have two keyrings: login and default. In the file ~/.gnome2/keyrings/default the default keyring is set as default, and that is where all my passwords reside. The problem is that Ubuntu is expecting my passwords to be in a keyring called login. If I delete the login keyring then the keyring is recreated, but is of course blank and is *not* set as the default keyring. The way I got things working was to delete ~/.gnome2/keyrings/login.keyring and renamed ~/.gnome2/keyrings/default.keyring to ~/.gnome2/login.keyring. Then I edited ~/.gnome2/keyrings/default to say login is the default. This might be a roundabout way of doing things, but this worked for me. Now I just have to figure out why I'm not getting prompted for my keyring password at all - even though that keyring definitely has a password. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/745780 Title: multiple prompts from gnome-keyring -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 745047] Re: unity-panel-service crashed with SIGSEGV in g_cclosure_marshal_VOID__ENUM()
A bit more information on this bug. It appears this only happens when Mirror screens is enabled - which is the default behaviour. So anytime you plugin a new external display or change an existing display to mirror screens you can trigger this bug. I didn't see it on my external monitor on my desk because it was setup as an extended screen. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/745047 Title: unity-panel-service crashed with SIGSEGV in g_cclosure_marshal_VOID__ENUM() -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 750404] [NEW] screen does not adjust correctly when moving an external monitor from left to right orientation
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: unity I plugin an external monitor and have a window maximised in the secondary display that has a larger resolution than my primary display. I open the gnome-display-properties tool and the secondary display is currently configured to be oriented to the left. I move the secondary screen to be oriented to the right and click [ Apply ]. Now I see part of the window that was maximised in the secondary display over in my primary display, and there is a large black area of my secondary display that is black. I will attach a screenshot for illustration purposes. Running `unity --replace` will fix the issue. [Bug 745780] [NEW] multiple prompts from gnome-keyring
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-keyring According to bug #637702 I should file a new bug for this. I'm using Ubuntu 11.04 up to date as of yesterday (29th March 2011). I get multiple prompts to unlock the keyring Default when logging in. Once I authorise the first prompt I can connect to the my choses wireless network and afaict there are no adverse effects to cancel the remaining prompts. It is not always a fixed number, but I am usually prompted five times for the password. Occasionally it is just two or four, but it doesn't seem to be consistent. When I open Seahorse I see I have two keyrings, login and default, and default is the default keyring. The login keyring has no passwords (afaict) but deleting it doesn't help. In fact the login key is just recreated on next login. I checked for autostart files and have deleted them from various places (~/.config/autostart/, ~/.kde/Autostart). Not sure where to go for troubleshooting.
