Re: [Bug 9068] Re: Serial mouse/mice not autodetected
This bug is old, and was opened at a time when the use of mice with serial ports was common. The fact that he is still present today demonstrates the inefficiency in the past (and to some extent still today) of the team to solve this problem. After performing a test with a serial mouse in the latest version of the Windows system (Win8 Pro) it worked automatically. * * *Rodrigo Varella Rahmi* On Tue, Nov 6, 2012 at 2:27 PM, Tommy Trussell tommy.truss...@gmail.comwrote: I started to comment that Ubuntu 12.10 doesn't autodetect my paper tape reader and punch, but decided that's too snarky (plus I don't really use them). It probably doesn't autodetect Hollerith card readers, either. ;-) It's possible I may no longer own the systems I previously used to test THIS bug -- I suspect the hardware now in my office has no serial ports, and the serial mouse is missing, too, so I would need to scrounge both a serial card and a serial mouse. My real point is that in order to address this bug in a satisfactory way, the folks with the technical skills and the folks with the hardware MUST intersect. Despite being in one group in the past, now I am no longer in either group. :-( It doesn't help to note how many minutes, days, months or years this bug has been open... there are fewer and fewer folks who have the hardware to test it, so this is not the place to look for help. I was just searching http://ubuntuforums.org/ to see if there are any active threads that mention serial mouse and there are a few (most regarding graphics tablets). Most of the helpful comments in this bug include forum links, SO the forums might be where the technical knowledge and hardware ownership are most likely to intersect. -- You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to a duplicate bug report (68315). https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/9068 Title: Serial mouse/mice not autodetected To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/casper/+bug/9068/+subscriptions -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/9068 Title: Serial mouse/mice not autodetected To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/casper/+bug/9068/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 90152] Re: Beagle loses file index on restart
The real problem may be my slow hard disks. The real time that beagle take to finish is about 1 minute, in a normal work day, but the cpu time is about 10 seconds. Maybe the init script is sending SIGKILL to it very earlier. I'm using beagle 0.2.16 and doing some tests, but still my index is ok. One strange thing is: when I run beagle-shutdown, even after I run it a second time and it report the daemon isn't running, I can see beagled and beagled-helper with 'ps aux', this is normal ? Re: [Bug 90152] Re: Beagle loses file index on restart
Thanks for your answer. Normally I don't quit my apps with SIGKILL, but in this case appear that beagle isn't exiting cleanly. When I sent SIGTERM to it, several times it take a lot to shutdown. I guessing it don't is exiting cleanly on restart, because of this I report its the same with SIGKILL, forcing it to not exit cleanly. Now I'm using upstream beagle, and i will report if anything changes. But the real problem with Edgy's version in my system is, beagle don't exit cleanly a lot of times. Sorry for my english. On 06/03/07, dBera [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: kill -9 (kill -SIGKILL) should never be sent to any program which is not hanged. Ever tried sending SIGKILL to any filesystem or kernel process ? You should use SIGTERM or SIGINT. kill -9 can not be handled by the process and so beagle exits with an inconsistent state. Even if the issue in the gnome bug is fixed, there is a high chance that after kill-9, your existing index will have to purged and everything re- indexed. On a different note, why do you have to restart beagle ? [Bug 86844] Floppy don't detected , don't auto mount, don't show volume name, very strange behaviour
Public bug reported: Problem : My problem is, i have a lot of problems with floppy disks in my machine, some problems here are probably bug duplicates, but I will point the original bug. My floppy drive isnt't auto detected, so I need to add a entry for my floppy drive in /etc/fstab (/dev/fd0/media/Floppymsdos,vfat,ext2,ext3,hfsdefaults,user0 0). I don't remember seeing some bug reports about this. Floppy disks aren't auto mounted. I need to click in the computerfloppy icon. Sadly it don't go to the mount point, going to / as reported in another bug, so I need to click a second time in computerfloppy to open it (in bug #33620, the reporter said the clicking twice produces nothing, so its a little different). Another irritating problem is: gfloppy fail to succesful format a floppy that have bad blocks, it only warn the user about the block location and stops, the floppy don't mount anymore, needing to reformat it without check for bad blocks. Floppy disk labels aren't show in computerfloppy or in desktopfloppy, like in a cd for example, so this is a non consistent gui behaviour. And to finish this novel, sadly novel, (good times when i remember Mac OS, I don't really wan't to say this, but I'm furious). Gfloppy don't format a floppy in hfs, so the user need to go the terminal. I really don't use much floppy disks, but we are in 2007 in the hd era, so floppy support must be at least very good. [Bug 69203] Add erroneous dns server in /etc/resolv.conf
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: dhcp3-client My native language is not english, but I will try to help. This package is a dependency of ubuntu-minimal, when installed it simply add an wrong dns address (10.1.1.1) to /etc/resolv.conf when I connect via pppoe my adsl router, obligating me to comment that line, if not my connection became much slow (latency to find the servers). Otherwise I simply remove this package as I don't need it. I really like to help in this. Thanks for attention. [Bug 68980] X server frequently don't shutdown correctly.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg My native language is not english, but I will try to help. This is a very strange bug. Several times when I end my gnome session the x server fail to stop, obligating the user to alt+sysrq+k to stop it. If the user try to go to console (any tty) it will encounter a messy screen with partial previous content of x server screen (very strange). Sometimes If the user has gdm login screen open and he try to go console, the x server simply restart (only if the console screen are messy, normally this don't occur). I try some changes in my xorg.conf (like limiting the resolution to 1024x768) but don't help. I have PCHIPS M748LMRT motherboard (Yeah its really bad) and SIS 620 graphical adapter running with the sis xorg module and vesafb in the console. I'm disposed to help in find a solution dor this. ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- X server frequently don't shutdown correctly. https://launchpad.net/bugs/68980 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 63292] Serial ports don't work together in oldworld
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.15-26-powerpc My native language is not english, but I will try to help. To reproduce simply make a serial connection (maybe ppp) with one of the ports and next made another connection with the other serial port you will percept a slow down when have activity in both ports (is practically impossible to became with the connection established for more than 5 minutes). This problem occur in all 2.6 kernels that I try (2.6.8, 2.6.10, 2.6.15,2.6.16 and 2.6.17). In kernels 2.6.15 and up this problem is still more bad because the serial ports operate so much slowly (reported in bug #63289).
