reopening as per comment #8. @Sebastian, I suggest you disable
whoopsie-path instead "systemctl disable whoopsie-path" and then reboot
to get a clean "systemctl --failed"

for those who are like me looking for the "Privacy" GUI control panel
mentioned in comment #5, make sure you have the "activity-log-manager"
package installed

[Bug 1962052] Re: core dump on start

2022-02-27 Thread Rolf Leggewie
I can confirm the problem. This is a regression with the latest release
in jammy. The previous one was still OK. There were many FTBFS
releases before 3.5.2+ds-1 so I had a hard time confirming the last
working release in jammy. I gave up and reverted back to the one from
impish and the problem is gone. I am fairly certain that there was at
least 1 working version in jammy before.

@mhodson: why did you remove six from this ticket? The affect I

@racb: thank you for having a thorough look. you are spot on in #10,
the problem is present only focal2jammy, not impish2jammy.

Thus, one possibility to deal with this situation is instead of
completely dropping the breaks is to erlax them to exclude the python
version from focal. Let me know if this is preferrable and I'll happily
provide a debdiff.

  The same PPA for impish & focal work just fine

  Thoughts?

  Continually running repeatedly sudo apt update && sudo apt dist-upgrade
  -y eventually forces the downloads to occur ok and the upgrades can then
  be installed ok

[Bug 1960264] Re: 503 errors for Jammy PPAs

2022-02-25 Thread Rolf Leggewie
I can confirm that acng running the version in jammy triggers the
problem with PPA in the clients it serves (which may or may not be
running jammy). Going by the fact that the version from impish when
installed on jammy does not have this problem and runs fine otherwise,
it looks like a regression.

Maybe it's best to downgrade the version in jammy back to the one from
impish until a solution can be found. I'd to see an LTS see the light
of day with this regression.

[Bug 1961340] [NEW] httpx in jammy is broken

2022-02-17 Thread Rolf Leggewie
Public bug reported:

The package in jammy cannot even successfully run the quickstart

example output below.

httpx from pip works fine and thus the suspicion is that the problem is
fixed in a later release which currently isn't migrating from -proposed

[Bug 1957790] Re: NVIDIA CVE-2022-{21813|21814}

2022-02-15 Thread Rolf Leggewie
It appears that this change might have introduced a regression.

Please have a look at bug 1960499 and bug 1960621.

| From Ubuntu package list for nvidia-driver-*, any

| 495, 510  -> 510
| 460, 465, 470 -> 470
| 455   -> 460

[Bug 1959485] Re: reproducible crash in jammy: Uncaught exception: ../../src/ui.cc:1549: void auto_fix_broken(): Assertion "resman->resolver_exists()" failed.

2022-02-04 Thread Rolf Leggewie
I don't currently have access to the machine that exhibited the problem
but I was indeed able to reproduce the issue without any problem from a
jammy pbuilder chroot this way.

[Bug 1959485] Re: reproducible crash in jammy: Uncaught exception: ../../src/ui.cc:1549: void auto_fix_broken(): Assertion "resman->resolver_exists()" failed.

2022-02-04 Thread Rolf Leggewie
Thank you Axel, for having a look.

I am in the process of creating the requested information and will make
it available to you privately. Not sure if that's necessary, though as
it should be fairly easy to reproduce this problem.

1) create jammy chroot/VM
2) add focal to sources.list
3) install autoradio, python-is-python2 and python3-six from focal
4) sudo aptitude and try to update autoradio (I assume this will trigger the
resolver, let it choose to upgrade autoradio to jammy and keep the other focal
packages around)
5) I was surprised to find that despite choosing a resolution from aptitude
resolver, aptitude shows broken packages at this point
6) hit g and witness the crash

[Bug 1958518] Re: split some large, lesser-used firmware files into -extra package

2022-02-02 Thread Rolf Leggewie
Juerg, thank you for picking this up and my apologies for the late
response.

You are of course right that there is no scientific answer or approach
to this question. I'd simply look at the biggest directories with ncdu
and make a decision if I thought that hardware was common when going
down the list from top towards the bottom (first few entries only, of
course).

Let's be clear that this is not about stopping to support anything,
upsetting anybody or break things or make things harder for people.
Anybody who has the default of installing recommends by default will not
be affected by this at all. It is about choice, for people in a
scenario with limited ressources who'd like to trim some fat. Those
people would need to make a conscious choice to remove the unnecessary
(for them) packages. I certainly won't need support for netronome on
any of my machines and would not install the package that contains it if
it were optional.
