[Bug 1577197] Re: Pulseaudio bluez5-util.c: TryAcquire() failed - Operation Not Authorized
so, in order to get sound I have to: * start blueman applet (default applet connects to ... something on the headphones, because they say "device connected", but not to some audio thingy, or at least pulseaudio doesn't pick it up unless I use blueman and tell it to connect to the audio sink on the headphones) * start headphones * sometimes open sound settings and click on the headphones so the sink shows up - it's listed in sound settings, but doesn't show up in pacmd list-sinks * run a2dp.py awesome! Does anyone have a way to automate this, or at least remotely stab a pulseaudio developer? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1577197 Title: Pulseaudio bluez5-util.c: TryAcquire() failed - Operation Not Authorized To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bluez/+bug/1577197/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1577197] Re: Pulseaudio bluez5-util.c: TryAcquire() failed - Operation Not Authorized
in my case I have to do rmmod btusb; modprobe btusb it looks to me like every new release of Ubuntu manages to break Bluetooth audio in some way that is new and creative and ever-increasingly difficult to automate away: * 14.10 and before - volume wouldn't be restored, sink wouldn't switch; solved by having a script listen to dbus for a headphone connection event and tell pulseaudio to set the default sink and restore volume * 15.04 - no sound unless I disconnected and reconnected again; put that in a script * 15.10 - needed to connect manually, but at least the rest worked; solved by having a script look if the phones are connected, do a l2ping to see if they are available and connect; occasionally I'd have to rmmod btusb; modprobe btusb * 16.04 - this issue; I only managed to upgrade yesterday, I still haven't found a pattern to this madness -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1577197 Title: Pulseaudio bluez5-util.c: TryAcquire() failed - Operation Not Authorized To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bluez/+bug/1577197/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Many thanks, Oleksij! [Bug 1402401] [NEW] Xorg freeze when switching to text console and back
Public bug reported: Sometimes the computer becomes unresponsive after switching to a text console and back; this seems to be an Xorg and / or kernel driver crash (there is a backtrace in dmesg that seems to be from Intel drivers). The rest of the system worked fine, I could SSH into it and restart Xorg. Re: [Bug 986675] Re: [n10] GL_ARB_vertex_buffer_object not supported, compiz worked perfectly before upgrade (from 11.04)
So it may have been an update-alternatives failure (they keep changing the name, before it was gl_conf, now it's a RSI-inducing x86_64-linux-gnu_gl_conf), and switching to / from the nvidia stack fixed the links. What's weird is that it's been failing partially somehow (I _had_ OpenGL support, just without one of the features needed for unity), and nothing else was complaining / exploding (which should happen in case a .so file isn't where it's supposed to be, right?). It looks like something the post-install script can double-check. So, now that oneiric is released and stable, this may be a good point for you to upgrade and re-test if this issue is still present there. I did some testing, there is a band aid in oneiric but it's not fixed: display-properties won't let me set up the monitors the way I need them, instead forcing me to put them on top of each other (highly awkward to use if they are _next to each other_ on my desk) If it's solved in the new release and you think it's worth backporting the fix, please indicate that. Or if having the fix in the new release is good enough, feel free to close out the bug (or let us know and we'll close it.) If it's not solved, leave the bug report open. I can't promise we'll get to it (we get way more bugs filed than we can usually get to), but your testing and feedback can help out if and when we do. I'm not sure what to do; there is a solution, but I feel it's inadequate as it doesn't address the underlying problem, which is compiz using a single texture for the whole desktop (tiling the desktop to fit the video texture size or using a separated texture on each monitor are the two most obvious solutions to someone like me, who doesn't know anything about graphics programming) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/776978 Title: everything on screen is garbled apart from the top bar (2 monitors, different resolutions, unity, natty) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/776978/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 830949] Re: [Intel N10 Graphics] Plugging in external monitor to VGA port makes both displays corrupted with thick slanted lines
may I say that crippling options so that we can't use external monitors at their native resolution is not a solution? the solution to this problem is breaking the desktop into tiles smaller than max texture size, doing compositing/transforms and then combining them afterwards for display (or something more clever someone who is an actual graphics programmer can come up with, this seems the most straightforward approach to me) rant and no, saying screw you, get a real computer is not a solution either; my Atom 570 netbook has plenty of power (dual core + HT = 4 virtual cores) in a small, cheap and light package, I'm not giving it up for a 4 kg 17 inch monster with the nvidia mobile card du jour (it also has a nvidia ION2 which eats about as much power as the rest of the system); it's sad that Intel chose to cripple both the video card (2048x2048 max texture size) and the CPU (can't address more than 2 GB of RAM -- maybe they have a thing for 2^11), but the former can be overcome by smart programmers and the latter by SSD (seek times approaching zero make swapping significantly less painful) /rant -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/830949 Title: [Intel N10 Graphics] Plugging in external monitor to VGA port makes both displays corrupted with thick slanted lines To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/830949/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The terminal window is drawn without opacity (it's rectangular, the not-rounded- anymore corners are ~black). What's more, on unity-3d, when I get a screen that wide, the desktop basically breaks and plays dead. This is on a Atom netbook, Intel N10, so it seems consistent that this issue comes with lower end intel chips. @Colin can you confirm that U3D still works as expected? @Sabin, you too, please? To me it looks more and more as a hardware / driver issue. Unity 3D (Compiz, actually) is unusable on dual monitors if the desktop exceeds the maximum texture size (which, for Intel cards and a few others, is 2048x2048); Unity 2D is ok if I don't use compositing (apart from some artefacts that are drawn on the primary monitor when the secondary/external one displays a menu), gnome terminal is drawn on top of everything otherwise. While it may be a hardware limitation (Intel seems to have made a habit out of this, Atom chips can't use more than 2G of RAM, for instance), is it really that hard to paint separate monitors in separate textures? (disclaimer: I don't know what I'm talking about, I know nil about the way compositing is done). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/788607 Title: gnome terminal hiding other windows and screensaver with dual screens To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity-2d/+bug/788607/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: I'm not the original author of the question, but I've got the exact same problem (Acer Aspire One, 1280x720 + 1440x900 external); this is the main thing that keeps me on Lucid (it's the gf's laptop I am experimenting with) Hello, I'm working with a portable computer, with another screen attached to the vga port. I work with both screens. I updated Ubuntu desktop from 10.10 to 11.04. After the update, both screens were corrupted, excepted the upper bar. When I've disconnected the external monitor and rebooted, everything worked file. Each time I tried to reconnect the external monitor, both screens were unreadable, excepted (sometimes) the upper bar and the new launchbar at the left of the screen. If i shake the mouse on the screen, some fields are redrawn and become visible. I've then installed 11.04 from scratch (reformat and reinstall). The problem is the same. The screen on the portable computer is 1400x1050, and the external screen is 1680(?) x 1050 [Just for completeness, my home directory is on another partition. So if something about displays were written to that directory by ubuntu 10.10 (and is now incompatible with 11.04), I don't know were it is, and don't know how to remove it. ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/776978 Title: everything on screen is garbled apart from the top bar (2 monitors, different resolutions, unity, natty) -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

after 2 days, regular (heavy) usage and several suspend/resume cycles, I think I can safely say that the issue doesn't happen with the upstream kernel; also, there seems to be way less swap usage than before (it barely went over 600 MB, while in the same period the old kernel manages to fill 1.5G - that, with 2G of RAM) going back to the stock kernel, as the nightly one seems to trigger a bug in udevd which causes it to max out the CPU (at least people on LKML seem to think it's an udevd bug) hth -- resume from suspend-to-ram results in heavy swap thrashing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/582272 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 582272] [NEW] resume from suspend-to-ram results in heavy swap thrashing
Public bug reported: With default settings (vm.swappiness=60), wakeup after a few hours of suspending results in heavy swap thrashing (looks like all memory is being copied to swap and then read back); this is even more problematic for me, since 1. I am on a 2 year old (MLC) SSD, which will eventually take a hit from this 2. it's a JMicron one, which means I see something like 70-80% IOWait, and everything moves like crap Setting vm.swappiness to 0 fixes this, but causes me other problems (with preemptive swapping disabled, IOWait lockups happen if I fill all the available RAM, and that usually happens when I'm working). My theory is that some timer goes bananas, and after resuming the lernel thinks all applications haven't been used for x hours, hence they should be committed to swap in order to free memory, and then all of them are being used again, so they need to be brought back... so far, my fix involves setting vm.swappiness to 0 before suspend, and back to 60 after resume, I attached the script that does it (place in /usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 Package: linux-image-2.6.32-22-generic 2.6.32-22.33 Regression: Yes Reproducible: Yes ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-22.33-generic 2.6.32.11+drm33.2 Uname: Linux 2.6.32-22-generic i686 AlsaVersion: Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.21. [Bug 258059] Re: Upgrade to Intrepid broke X (I830WaitLpRing timeout)
in my case, X works fine for a while and then crashes when I start Mozilla Thunderbird; subsequent attempts by gdm to restart X fail and the screen is unreadable (looks like it sets a wrong refresh rate or smth... all static and lines - also on text console, when switching to a text console I catch a glimpse of the dialog box that tells me X keeps crashing (I think)) Sometimes a restart solves the issue and Thunderbird starts fine afterwards, sometimes it takes 3-4 restarts. relevant lines from /var/log/messages: Nov 17 16:23:49 shire kernel: [ 326.591451] Xorg[5627]: segfault at 6572662f ip b7b97d64 sp bfab8110 error 4 in libdri.so[b7b94000+8000] Nov 17 16:23:50 shire bonobo-activation-server (iacobs-6646): could not associate with desktop session: Failed to connect to socket /tmp/dbus-tMQlBwGrFx: Connection refused Nov 17 16:23:57 shire kernel: [ 334.126791] Xorg[6683]: segfault at 6572662f ip b7a87d64 sp bffa62b0 error 4 in libdri.so[b7a84000+8000] Nov 17 16:24:06 shire kernel: [ 343.450106] Xorg[6704]: segfault at 6572662f ip b7b84d64 sp bf8a43b0 error 4 in libdri.so[b7b81000+8000] Nov 17 16:24:16 shire kernel: [ 353.025771] Xorg[6730]: segfault at 6f6f6269 ip b7a22d64 sp bfa42550 error 4 in libdri.so[b7a1f000+8000] Nov 17 16:24:19 shire kernel: [ 356.285800] mtrr: base(0xd000) is not aligned on a size(0x7b) boundary Also attaching Xorg.0.log (the last crashed one... [Bug 193216] Re: fusion-icon crashed with AttributeError in module()
the dependencies should list compiz-gnome (formerly compiz-gtk) as a side note, as an XFCE user I am horrified by the number of deps a systray applet is pulling - couldn't it do without them? -- fusion-icon crashed with AttributeError in module() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/193216 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
