[Bug 1899233] Re: post login - no apps launched - virtualbox-dkms 6.1.10-dfsg-1~ubuntu1.20.04.1: virtualbox kernel module failed to build
I have the same issue and was not able fix this by using the repo version of virtualbox on Ubuntu 20.04. I found this guide on how to install the latest version of Virtualbox: https://linuxize.com/post/how-to-install-virtualbox-on-ubuntu-20-04/ I tried it and it worked for me, now I have Virtualbox 6.1.16 version installed and Virtualbox works just fine. [Bug 133133]
(In reply to M Lopez-Ibanez from comment #44) (In reply to Szczepan Hołyszewski from comment #42) I am starting to suspect developer malice here. That seems uncalled for. I agree that this is a bit too much, no malice involved; I think it's mostly due to lack of time/resourcesetc. Firefox developers working on Linux issues are very few and hard-working. Any official stats/references about how many Firefox devs are actually working on Linux? They need more love and support and not users throwing accusations. Also, if you honestly want to see support of Linux continued, you are shooting yourself in the foot with such a comment: Which developer wants to work on supporting an OS when users of that OS accuse them of malice? Scaring developers away is not the way to improve such support! The reality is that there are very few Firefox developers that use GNU/Linux, and all of them probably use GNOME/GTK. Again any references/stats? GTK developers have contributed at lot to Mozilla/Firefox, Well, the most obvious reason is that Firefox is built on GTK+*. I think if Firefox was built on Qt it would have gotten a lot of contribution from Qt devs, that's the nature of using a toolkit to build your software... whereas KDE has its own browser (Konqueror and now Rekonq). That's not really a point since GNOME has its own browser too, it's called Epiphany, a WebKit based browser (it's been renamed to Web lately https://wiki.gnome.org/Apps/Web/). The people that have tried to improve Firefox on KDE have done so by creating add-ons or distribution-specific patches. This is a quick way to get results but tends to bitrot and break sooner or later. IIRC those changes were submitted as bug reports upstream but were rejected hence the distribution patches/addons. The *only* way Firefox support for KDE will improve is if people using Firefox on KDE join Firefox development and do it. If you cannot do it yourself for lack of time or skills, create a kickstarter and hire a developer that can. If you do not have skills, money, or time, and you cannot figure out another way to help, then resign yourself in silence because it will probably get worse. This issue isn't KDE specific; the issue here is that there's no easy was to make Firefox use whatever file manager you set as the default in Linux. Even under GNOME you'd hit the same problem if you want to use a file manager other than Nautilus; you can configure GNOME to use whatever file manager you want but Firefox would ignore those settings. Firefox could use xdg-open (this was suggested in previous comments in this report) which is supposed to be distro-agnostic; given xdg* isn't perfect but it's better than using a dbus method that's only implemented by Nautilus under GNOME. Attacking developers, whining and useless comments (mine ones included, unfortunately) only make developers *less* inclined to follow bug reports about KDE. True, insulting devs isn't good any which way one thinks about it. But I think frustration can lead to such accusations flying around; the open-containing-folder feature misbehaving for anything other than Nautilus has been around for more than 8 years... that is rather a long time. /me going back to resign myself in silence :). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/133133 Title: Open containing folder is only working if nautilus is present To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/firefox/+bug/133133/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 133133]
(In reply to PhobosK from comment #36) I've seen the same issue in Fedora. My workaround was to sabotage the org.freedesktop.Filemanager1 dbus service by creating ~/.local/share/dbus-1/services/org.freedesktop.FileManager1.service and changing the Exec line to e.g. /usr/bin/false or /usr/bin/true; this is better since it's persistent and isn't affected by system updates... etc. This makes Firefox use whatever file manager I set in ~/.local/share/applications/defaults.list (see comment #31). Changing Exec to /usr/bin/dolphin somehow made open containing folder open the file manager, but the firefox UI gets sort of blocked/hung for a while, probably because firefox tries to query the capabilities of org.freedesktop.FileManager1 via dbus first, (just a guess). [Bug 133133]
Add to the above (about changing Exec to /usr/bin/dolphin) is that I get two dolphin windows opened, one at ~ and the other to the actual folder containing the file from the download manager/library, until the second window is opened Firefox is hung.
I first hit the org.freedesktop.FileManager1 issue a couple of months ago, so my memory is a bit hazy on the issue. In the workaround I posted in comment#37 the Exec line has to be /usr/bin/false, otherwise there's a delay before the file manager is opened. Most likely because /usr/bin/false returns an exit code 1.

This bug is also present in netboot installer (text mode, version 20101020ubuntu227, 02-Apr-2013), confirmed 5 minutes ago. I use 3 HDDs, two of which are mdraid mirror. The swapoff -a trick didnt work for me, but as Roman Yepishev (thanks rye!) suggested, feedeing two OKs to /var/lib/partman/outfifio helped: echo OK /var/lib/partman/outfifio Each OK produced this dmesg line: kernel: [timestamp] brtfs: open /dev/sdf1 failed After two OKs, got into partitioner menu, and the business could be done as usual. Now, /dev/sdf1 is just one of the mdraid (ID:FD) partitions, and it is ext4, WTF brtfs fails on it? Could this be a brtfs module problem? [Bug 1090608] Re: TrackPoint on ThinkPad X1 Carbon Not Working After Hard Reboot
I'm now experiencing issues with audio playback skipping just after suspending my laptop (although I had suspended it several times before without running into any such issue). I've tried multiple audio players, but I'm getting the same result in all of them. I've tried restarting PulseAudio, but that didn't help. I'm running the 3.7.0-030700-generic kernel you told me to install. Do you think this new problem is related to this TrackPoint issue, or should I create a separate bug for it? In any case, I won't reboot the machine or suspend it again, so that tests can be run if necessary. ** Description changed: Hardware: Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Software: Xubuntu 12.10 x64 I have my laptop set up to suspend on closing the laptop lid. Upon opening it, sometimes (only twice so far total) the screen does not turn on correctly. I know that Xubuntu is still running, because when I re- close the lid, I see the expected changes in the suspend lights on the outside of the lid. In any case, this forced me to hard reboot the machine by pressing the power button for several seconds. I've had to do this once in the past, at which time I rebooted without any problems, and things worked as before. But this time, after starting up, the TrackPoint was no longer working. When I checked in the Xfce settings manager, the TrackPoint device was no longer included in the Mouse and Touchpad section of the settings. Only the touchpad is still there. I haven't rebooted the laptop since, so if there are any boot logs you want, let me know. --- ApportVersion: 2.6.1-0ubuntu9 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USERPID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: srunni 2419 F pulseaudio srunni 2422 F xfce4-volumed /dev/snd/controlC29: srunni 2422 F xfce4-volumed DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.10 EcryptfsInUse: Yes HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=381968bb-c044-483c-8627-a18f8d87b55b InstallationDate: Installed on 2012-11-28 (17 days ago) InstallationMedia: Xubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal - Release amd64 (20121017.1) MachineType: LENOVO 3443CTO MarkForUpload: True Package: linux (not installed) ProcEnviron: TERM=rxvt-unicode PATH=(custom, no user) XDG_RUNTIME_DIR=set LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcFB: 0 inteldrmfb ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-3.5.0-19-generic root=/dev/mapper/xubuntu-root ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.5.0-19.30-generic 3.5.7 RelatedPackageVersions: linux-restricted-modules-3.5.0-19-generic N/A linux-backports-modules-3.5.0-19-generic N/A linux-firmware1.95 Tags: quantal Uname: Linux 3.5.0-19-generic x86_64 UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) UserGroups: adm cdrom dip lpadmin plugdev sambashare sudo vboxusers dmi.bios.date: 09/11/2012 dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO dmi.bios.version: G6ET59WW (2.03 ) dmi.board.asset.tag: Not Available dmi.board.name: 3443CTO dmi.board.vendor: LENOVO dmi.board.version: Win8 STD DPK TPG dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Information dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: LENOVO dmi.chassis.version: Not Available dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnLENOVO:bvrG6ET59WW(2.03):bd09/11/2012:svnLENOVO:pn3443CTO:pvrThinkPadX1Carbon:rvnLENOVO:rn3443CTO:rvrWin8STDDPKTPG:cvnLENOVO:ct10:cvrNotAvailable: dmi.product.name: 3443CTO dmi.product.version: ThinkPad X1 Carbon dmi.sys.vendor: LENOVO + --- + ApportVersion: 2.6.1-0ubuntu9 + Architecture: amd64 + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.10 + EcryptfsInUse: Yes + InstallationDate: Installed on 2012-11-28 (24 days ago) + InstallationMedia: Xubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal - Release amd64 (20121017.1) + MarkForUpload: True + Package: linux (not installed) + ProcEnviron: + TERM=rxvt-unicode + PATH=(custom, no user) + XDG_RUNTIME_DIR=set + LANG=en_US.UTF-8 + SHELL=/bin/bash + Tags: quantal + Uname: Linux 3.7.0-030700-generic x86_64 + UnreportableReason: The running kernel is not an Ubuntu kernel + UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) + UserGroups: adm cdrom dip lpadmin plugdev sambashare sudo vboxusers -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1090608 Title: TrackPoint on ThinkPad X1 Carbon Not Working After Hard Reboot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1090608/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1090608] [NEW] TrackPoint on ThinkPad X1 Carbon Not Working After Hard Reboot
Public bug reported: Hardware: Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Software: Xubuntu 12.10 x64 I have my laptop set up to suspend on closing the laptop lid. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1090608 Title: TrackPoint on ThinkPad X1 Carbon Not Working After Hard Reboot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1090608/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1010766] [NEW] NVIDIA Ion Overscan Rendering Settings Retention Problems
Public bug reported: I'm encountering 2 related issues with overscan on my HTPC (Zotac NVIDIA Ion mobo), which I'm using with a 73 Mitsubishi DLP TV. The machine's running Xubuntu 12.04 x64. My NVIDIA driver version is 295.40-0ubuntu1. First, overscan settings are not retained across reboots at times (there is no clear pattern for when they're lost). When they're not, the overscan adjustment option is no longer available in the NVIDIA settings app, as can be seen in the following sets of screenshots: http://i.stack.imgur.com/lXg2s.png (option is available) http://i.stack.imgur.com/uBIRc.png (option is lost after reboot) Second, when playing video using VDPAU hardware decoding (in SMPlayer, in my case) with overscan correction applied, after a short (~10 mins) but arbitrary period of time, display output is almost completely lost from the screen, except for a small strip at the top. The size of the strip depends on the amount of overscan correction that has been applied. When no correction is applied, this does not happen at all. When full correction is applied, the output is completely lost. Since my DLP TV's screen is slightly curved, full overscan correction is not applied, meaning that a small strip of display output can be observed at the top. If I manage to blindly return to the NVIDIA settings app and reduce the overscan, the size of the visible strip will increase, until the whole screen is visible when overscan has been removed entirely. The problem goes away entirely when X is restarted. [Bug 836250] Re: [Oneiric] [Regression] Intel Corporation Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 poor networking, packet loss and very slow Lenovo X201 and T500 laptops
After upgrading to kernel 3.0.0.16 I am able to connect my laptop at 150Mbps using iwlagn and my desktop at 300Mbps using rt2800pci. Both speeds were not possible before kernel update. The problem now is that my laptop connects in g speed (54Mbps) after waking up from suspend.
