[Bug 2068912] [NEW] Authd based authentication fields cannot be translated

We rely on authd-provided labels for most of things, but still there are
widgets elements at shell level that we should translated and that we
currently don't expose in the po files.

[Bug 2068744] Re: Launching ua status → An unexpected error occurred: list index out of range

2024-06-09 Thread Treviño
Oh... So, that's probably my local fault since I've a local script that
overrides `apt` in my path so that I actually end up the nicer `nala`
apt UI frontend...

So, I've fixed this locally.

However, I feel that it would be nicer if instead of calling apt, you
should probably use always /usr/bin/apt, or even better use the
python3-apt bindings instead of parsing apt results

[Bug 2068513] [NEW] /etc/pam.d/login still loads (as optional) pam_lastlog.so wich has been removed from libpam-modules

2024-06-05 Thread Treviño
Public bug reported:

Since version 1.5.3 of libpam-modules (commit https://github.com/linux-
pam/linux-pam/commit/357a4d), pam_lastlog has been disabled by default,
so we don't ship it anymore in ubuntu.

However /etc/pam.d/login still refers to it.

Thus it should be likely be removed from login pam config file too, or
in case use `module_unknown=ignore` to avoid warn since it's going to be
always missing.

codes whose size isn't matching the expected one and this may lead to a
wrongly generated texture (and potential memory access errors).

An example: https://i.imgur.com/x3P4dzQ.png

[ Test case ]

In order to test this from GNOME shell, many components have to be set
up that are harder to check so this can be easily simulated using a
simple test program that replicates what the shell does to generate the
image: https://www.pastery.net/uyzeca/

1. Download and run the test script:
   $ wget -O /tmp/shell-qrcode-tester.py https://www.pastery.net/uyzeca/raw
2. Run it with:
   $ python3 /tmp/shell-qrcode-tester.py
3. The qrcode should open in a new window and display correctly as
   https://imgur.com/dddTL6u.png (pointing to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell)

[ Regression potential ]

QrCodes are used only during web authentication that is not something
that is generally exposed to users, but this may potentially lead to
wrong or missing qr codes textures.

[Bug 2065141] Re: AMD CPU type 0x70f40 (ext family 0xa) unknown

2024-05-23 Thread Treviño
> I'm wondering if the mantic and jammy patches aren't missing the
change to src/counters-test/counters.c

When doing the patch I did grep on those trees for similar contents, and
there's not.

The file was added on 5.6.0 (https://github.com/rr-
debugger/rr/commit/de389f73cecaedb9e3f8f593bec00db80183993f) so not in
jammy for sure, while it was present in mantic (I had missed the rename
there it seems), but as the file states it's just a standalone test that
was nice to have but not fully required to get the fix landed.

[Bug 2066339] [NEW] Prefix is not exactly honored when installing with --prefix

2024-05-21 Thread Treviño
Public bug reported:

In a simple distutils project:

$ cat hello
#!/usr/bin/env python3 print("Hello world")

$ cat setup.py
from distutils.core import setup
setup(name='hello', scripts=['hello'])

Installing it with --prefix is not fully honored, as "local" is always
added (--root is optional, used just to make the reproducer easier):

$ python3 setup.py install --root=/tmp/py-root --prefix=/opt/py-prefix

$ find /tmp/py-root/
/tmp/py-root/
/tmp/py-root/opt
/tmp/py-root/opt/py-prefix
/tmp/py-root/opt/py-prefix/local
/tmp/py-root/opt/py-prefix/local/bin
/tmp/py-root/opt/py-prefix/local/bin/hello
/tmp/py-root/opt/py-prefix/local/lib
/tmp/py-root/opt/py-prefix/local/lib/python3.12
/tmp/py-root/opt/py-prefix/local/lib/python3.12/dist-packages
/tmp/py-root/opt/py-prefix/local/lib/python3.12/dist-packages/hello-0.0.0-py3.12.egg-info
/tmp/py-root/opt/py-prefix/local/lib/python3.12/dist-packages/hello-0.0.0-py3.12.egg-info/dependency_links.txt
/tmp/py-root/opt/py-prefix/local/lib/python3.12/dist-packages/hello-0.0.0-py3.12.egg-info/SOURCES.txt
/tmp/py-root/opt/py-prefix/local/lib/python3.12/dist-packages/hello-0.0.0-py3.12.egg-info/top_level.txt
/tmp/py-root/opt/py-prefix/local/lib/python3.12/dist-packages/hello-0.0.0-py3.12.egg-info/PKG-INFO

In fact in such case everything should be installed in
/tmp/py-root/opt/py-prefix prefix and not
/tmp/py-root/opt/py-prefix/local since a prefix is explicitly defined
and so there's no point to add an extra "/local" subpath.

---

In between the others, this breaks jhbuild builds as a test fails for
this specific reason (see bug #2066193 where the missing file is due to
the fact that it gets installed to $PREFIX/local/bin instead of $PREFIX/bin).

---

After some debugging of it, this related to the default scheme change
happened with python3.10 [1] which meant to always use /usr/local as
default and ensure that one should explicitly require for /usr prefix,
but in the case that --prefix= is used, the user request is now ignored
because:

 - /usr/lib/python3.*/_distutils_system_mod.py:
   1. Selects the scheme `posix_prefix` since we've requested a prefix
explicitly

 - /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/setuptools/_distutils/command/install.py
   1. Calls sysconfig.get_preferred_scheme("prefix") that now as per the said
change would return by default `posix_local` unless we're building a
  debian package.
   2. Replaces the variables to use the `posix_local` scheme

So, in order to fix this we may in theory change python3 packages to
make 1. to select another defined prefix say `posix_explicitprefix`, and
then making `sysconfig.get_preferred_scheme("explicitprefix")` to
instead return `posix_prefix`, but that would not be correct, because
being that a public API it should only support the allowed input
arguments for it ("prefix", "home" or "user").

As per this, I feel the best way to handle this is instead in the
setuptools module so that we can check once again if --prefix has been
used and react accordingly.

Sorry I put the wrong link even on editing...

I meant https://askubuntu.com/questions/1510951/do-release-upgrade-
from-22-04-to-24-04-deleted-systemd-resolved but as you noted is
definitely lp:2063464 which I still noticed since I went through dist-
upgrade manually.

[Bug 2066218] Re: 0a5c: 58xx USB device doesn't receive suspend interrupt from USBD Linux Driver/controller

2024-05-21 Thread Treviño
I feel this is because the device is not in the libfprint list of
unsupported devices, for which we still apply the auto-suspend mode.

The device is now added to
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/libfprint/wiki/-/wikis/Unsupported-
Devices and so once we sync that doc with the libfprint code, it will
not leak anymore even if the driver is not installed.

Let me know if that's something else, but if that's the case then it's
only about fixing libfprint to generate an udev/hwdb rule for that.

2024-05-20 Thread Treviño
This is related to https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/ubuntu-
desktop-s-24-10-dev-cycle-the-roadmap/45120 right?

Since I manually upgraded a machine and after the upgrade:
 - systemd-resolved wasn't there
 - resolvconf was still installed
 - no domain resolution was working

Once I manually installed systemd-resolved, all the above were fixed.

EDIT: Fixed link

[Bug 2065070] [NEW] Keyboard accessibility dialogs not working

2024-05-07 Thread Treviño
Public bug reported:

[ Impact ]

Enabling a keyboard accessibility feature using the keyboard (like, e.g.
keeping a modifier pressed for 8 secs, or pressing a modifier 5 times in a row)
used to trigger a dialog in the shell to confirm the change.
In GNOME 42 this is no longer the case.

Upstream issue: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/2306

[ Test case ]

- Keep Shift pressed for 8 seconds

- A shell dialog popin up showing:

 Slow Keys Turned On

You just held down the Shift key for 8 seconds. This is the shortcut
for the Slow Keys feature, which affects the way your keyboard works.

Output of
  journalctl /usr/bin/gnome-shell

Should not contain

  TypeError: Clutter.KeyboardA11yFlags is undefined

[ Regression potential ]

Mutter does not compile (this change only implies different includes) or
introspection data is missing

[Bug 2059819] Re: Regression: Jammy to Noble, right clicking on some icons shows dropdown on left side of screen

2024-04-30 Thread Treviño
** Description changed:

+ [ Impact ]
+
In ubuntu jammy and previous releases, right clicking on appindicator
icons brings up the menu below the appindicator with appropriate gnome
theming. In ubuntu noble, right clicking on some appindicator icons
(example: barrier) results in the menu appearing on the left side of the
  screen without proper theming.

  See attached image.
+
+ [ Test case ]
+
+ Note: this only tests the appindicator-side that may have lead to
+ "activating" the application, it's not something that will fix the
+ applications issues that is a QT bug.
+
+ 1. Start a QT application with indicator
+(after gnome-shell has started; e.g. clementine, barrier...)
+ 2. The applindicator menu with shell theme should appear
+ 3. No activation happens on the application (e.g. the window is not opened)
+
+ [ Regression potential ]
+
+ Mouse events aren't properly exposed to the indicators

[Bug 2059818] Re: Regression: Jammy to Noble, set_label no longer functions

2024-04-25 Thread Treviño
** Description changed:

+ [ Impact ]
+
In ubuntu jammy and previous releases, set_label can be used to set the text
to display instead of an appindicator icon. In ubuntu noble set_label no longer
functions at all.

https://gjs-docs.gnome.org/appindicator301~0.1/appindicator3.indicator#method-set_label
+
+ [ Test Case ]
+
+ - Download the test indicator and its dependencies:
+ * wget
https://github.com/ubuntu/gnome-shell-extension-appindicator/blob/master/indicator-test-tool/testTool.js
+ * apt install gir1.2-appindicator3-0.1
+
+ - Run the test indicator:
+ gjs -m testTool.js
+
+ - Ensure the indicator icon shows up (it has an ubuntu icon)
+ - Click on it and activate the "Set Label" item
+ - A random numeric label should show next to the icon
+
+ [ Regression potential ]
+
+ The icon is not visible anymore

[Bug 2060816] Re: App grid icon is Ubuntu logo, need to find override

Marcos,

Are you sure that you're running the latest version of the yaru-icon-
theme *and* of the ubuntu-dock?

Also are you running the ubuntu session?

If one of these conditions aren't met, then the normal icon will be
shown.

figure out when those calls such as eject_with_operation are
happening... Let me try again if I can reproduce, otherwise maybe when
you've time (next week though), ping me at @3v1n0:matrix.org so that
maybe we can do some more interactive debugging :)

2024-04-18 Thread Treviño
Well that's the focus ring, IIRC Is there also without yaru so it
doesn't seem a downstream (only) bug (if any to me):

FYI we're going to provide a way to override this by defining a new
gnome shell session (you can inherit the ubuntu one) and the icon should
be named `view-app-grid-${currentMode}-symbolic` e.g. `view-app-grid-
edubuntu-symbolic`, otherwise the default (view-app-grid-symbolic) will
be used

[Bug 1976204] Re: system freeze and gnome-shell reports multiple stack trace

So, attaching with gdb should happen when it's hanging, assuming that's
