[Bug 1683889] [NEW] complete system freeze after update to 17.04

2017-04-18 Thread boskicinek
Public bug reported:

Since I have updated from 16.10 to 17.04 I am hunted by total system
freezes (i.e. cannot move mouse, screen content is not updated, cannot
switch to text terminal, even Caps Lock cannot be toggled). I have seen
this 3 times already, two times with Firefox active and once while I was
typing in Konsole, but with Firefox running in the back. Following log
is from the last time and it also mentions 'firefox' so I think this is
somehow relevant. From kern.log:

[Bug 1681941] Re: Most of Breeze icons are missing in systemsettings5

2017-04-12 Thread boskicinek
This was observed after update from 16.10. However I have managed to
find source of this 'bug'. I have some additional breeze icons in
~/.local/share/icons/breeze. For some reasons (probably because this was
needed at some point in the past) I also had corresponding 'index.theme'
file placed in this directory. File from previous version of Breeze icon
theme, which is a little different than current one. After removing this
file everything works as expected.

[Bug 1244948] [NEW] Bluetooth is stuck after suspend until WiFi networking is toggled

2013-10-26 Thread boskicinek
Public bug reported:

Hi!
After update from 13.04 to 13.10 I've started to experience weird issue. I'm
using bluetooth mouse and usually it works great. However if I suspend my
machine and then wake it up, mouse suddenly stop working. According to
bluetooth applet, mouse is still connected, but it does not work. I've found
workaround for this issue though: if I open network manager applet and switch
wireless network off and then back on, bluetooth start working again. However
another unexpected behaviour occurs: it sometimes unmount my SD card.
My machine is HP ProBook 4320s. Here's additional hardware info:

[Bug 796301] [NEW] ecryptfs broke couple of my files

Hi,

I'm experiencing problem with display on my laptop. Basically everything,

back to graphic mode is to reboot entire machine:/.

[Bug 582955] Re: Sound Blaster 5.1VX produces only iritating white noise

2010-08-28 Thread boskicinek
Hi, I just tried Ubuntu 10.10, version from 26.08.2010 and the bug is still
present - all I get from my Sound Blaster VX is only irritating noise.
I tried to run apport-collect, but unfortunatelly the network (wireless)
doesn't work for my on this version and everything keeps crashing all the time.

[Bug 582955] [NEW] Sound Blaster 5.1VX produces only iritating white noise

2010-05-19 Thread boskicinek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-source

This sound card uses CA0106 alsa module and on 9.10 as well as on 10.04 it
produces highly disturbed sound (almost white noise, but not random). More on
this topic can be found here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1102809 (Creative Soundblaster 5.1 VX
: Bad ( unusable ) Sound)
http://guide.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1104738 (White noise from Sound
Blaster 5.1 VX, amd64)

Possible fix can be found here:
http://mailman.alsa-project.org/pipermail/alsa-devel/2008-October/011333.html

I can't give more details right now, because that bug affects my friend's
machine, so I don't have access to it right now.
I guess all required info can be found here:
http://guide.ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=6947135postcount=1 (except the
kernel version, because it's still present on 2.6.32-22-generic).

But if it's really needed, I will provide more info.

[Bug 453812] [NEW] [karmic] regression: I can't turn off LVDS on my MSI Wind (Intel 945GME)

2009-10-17 Thread boskicinek
Public bug reported:

Hi!
It's seems that I'm unable to turn off LVDS on my MSI Wind. What's weird is a
fact, that I'm using my Wind with external monitor (VGA1) and, when LVDS1 is
disabled, screen suspend works (on VGA1).
This bug is easy to reproduce:
$ xrandr
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1440 x 900, maximum 4096 x 4096
VGA1 connected 1440x900+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 408mm x
255mm
   1440x900 59.9*+ 59.9*
   1280x1024 75.0
   1152x864 75.0
   1024x768 75.1 70.1 60.0 60.0
   832x62474.6
   800x60075.0 60.3 56.2
   640x48075.0 60.0
   720x40070.1
LVDS1 connected 1024x600+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 220mm x
129mm
   1024x600 60.0*+
   640x48059.9

$ xset dpms force off
[This turns off both screens for 1 second and then automatically turns it back
on - without any trace in dmesg]

$ xrandr --output LVDS1 --off
$ xset dpms force off
[And now everything works as expected]

I can provide more information on this, if needed. Just tell me what you
need.

[Bug 413185] Re: USB ports doesn't work on MSI Wind 100

Some additional info:
- my USB mouse works fine, when I start Karmic (now Alpha 4) with connected

Well, this was happening from time to time also on intrepid and hardy.

Any chance to have this driver by default in Jaunty? It looks like
nothing happens in this bugreport and it's strange, because from what
I've heard Ubuntu team wants to focus on netbook market. Well,
supporting this WLAN NIC is necessary to provide support for really many
netbooks users.

2009-02-10 Thread boskicinek
I can confirm this on my MSI Wind (Intel 945GM) on Jaunty Alpha 4. When
I start Jaunty with my external LCD display connected, Kubuntu set my
both displays to 800x600 (natvie resolution on Wind is 1024x600 and
1440x900 on LCD) resulting blank screen on Wind internal display.
Restarting KDM seems to fix this issue.

It's because those drivers simply sucks. I have exactly the same
problem. I don't know why, but sometimes changing wireless channel in
your AP helps. You can also try to reset card/drivers with script I've
wrote (see attachment).

[Bug 246141] Re: no support for realtek rtl8187se

2008-11-29 Thread boskicinek
After I sent a love letter to realtek, they sent me updated drivers
(see attachment). Package is still named r1023, but the date has changed
(from 0928 to 1118) and of course the source code. I'm using it right
now and it works much more stable for me than the old one, although I'm
still getting huge latencies from time to time.

You can also get deb package I prepared for 2.6.27.10 kernel:

[Bug 261635] Re: laptop key errors in messages on advent 4211 (badged msi wind)

2008-11-17 Thread boskicinek
Same issue here. This is more serious because it's probably keeps LCD from
turning off.
Try to do this in terminal:
# sudo dmesg -c
(This will print debug information and clear the buffer, so next time you
execute dmesg it should give you empty output)

# xset dpms force off dmesg

It will give you this output:

[ 697.792010] atkbd.c: Unknown key pressed (translated set 2, code 0xf7 on
isa0060/serio0).
[ 697.792037] atkbd.c: Use 'setkeycodes e077 keycode' to make it known.
[ 697.795261] atkbd.c: Unknown key released (translated set 2, code 0xf7 on
isa0060/serio0).
[ 697.795271] atkbd.c: Use 'setkeycodes e077 keycode' to make it known.

and what is worse, it won't actually let you keep your screen off. Instead it
will:
1. turn off LCD for a second or two
2. Blink image of your desktop for a second
3. Blank your LCD (You will see black screen, but with LCD backlight still on)

I'm using MSI Wind U100

Try to change your AP channel to something lower and ESSID to something

same configuration, except ESSID and channel. 1st have 12 letters in

works on 8th channel. First one works like charm, but no matter what I
do (turning your Wind off (reboot is not enough) and on solves problems

[Bug 198141] Re: [hardy] [regression] acpi is totally broken on hp compaq nx6110/intel i915

2008-05-28 Thread boskicinek
Well everything is working fine now. It turned out that I had some serious
problems with my hardware (motherboard, to be more specific) including dying
USB hub (see my other bug reports for more details). After disassembling my

work fine. Very nasty bug, because it happened at the same time when I

[Bug 163481] Re: Gutsy: USB devices stop working

2008-05-18 Thread boskicinek
Well, I'm really sorry, but it looks like this is rather hardware related
problem. I was very frustrated yesterday, because it looks like kubuntu's
fault, but as it appears it was a coincidence. I'm almost sure that my laptop
have some problems with connections somewhere on my mainboard, because my USB
controller dies when I'm moving my laptop. The same goes for wireless card (I
get ipw2200: Firmware error detected. Restarting. in dmesg) and sometimes
even with my touchpad. Sometimes my computer even hangs on X loading.
I thought it was Kubuntu live, because I probably just didn't move my laptop
when I was on LiveCD. Right now I believe it's almost certainly invalid bug
report. So sorry once again for taking your time.

[Bug 163481] Re: Gutsy: USB devices stop working

2008-05-17 Thread boskicinek
Please, change importance of this bug to high, because very weird things are
happening with my USB right now. My mouse like dying, when switching from vt to
X server even when wireless is disabled. That's not all - when I booted today
to kubuntu 7.10 LiveCD in which, as fair as I remember, everything was working
fine my USB devices was behaving very weird as well. I often have to turn off
my machine (rebooting is apparently not enough) to restore USB ports in my
NX6110 (but in most case rmmod uchci_hcd modprobe uhci_hcd works).
Right now I'm very disappointed with (K)Ubuntu 8.04 - ACPI doesn't work
anymore (it works perfectly in 7.10 and earlier) and acting very weird
(constantly turning on and off my display etc.) and now this bug, which makes
my USB devices unusable.
My experiences with 8.04 are even more sad when you consider that I'm using
8.04 since Alpha 3 and I was reporting ACPI problems in march, but without any
response (here's bug report:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/acpid/+bug/198141).
Please fix this as soon as possible.

2008-05-11 Thread boskicinek
I believe it's not necessary a hardware problem. In my case (HP NX6110)
it's probably some bug related with ipw2200/networkmanager and probably
also WPA/WPA2 (wpasupplicant), because I started using WPA yesterday and
at the same time my problems with USB started. Even more: when I
disconnect with my WPA AP and turn off wireless card (Intel Pro Wireless

2008-05-08 Thread boskicinek
Well, sort of. After commenting out /etc/network/interfaces I can see
and connect to wireless network, but I'm unable to get on boot
connection, because it appears that setting my home wireless network as
activated on boot with Manual configuration option doesn't work -
Kubuntu simply doesn't store any of my settings.

And one more thing: Now, when I'm using knetworkmanager, I'm getting
disconnected from time to time. I didn't notice this behaviour before.

[Bug 214015] Re: faulty update of linux-image-2.6.24-15.27

2008-04-12 Thread boskicinek
I have the same problem with stuck splash. The fault is in wrong menu.lst
generated by new linux-image. I thought it's an obvious bug, when I was
updating to 2.6.24-15.27, but I'm in the middle of the update right now and
linux-image 2.6.24-16.30 is trying again to write wrong menu.lst. The problem
is in root UUID. My root UUID is 1fd1a(...)516, and linux-image wants to
replace it with 11fa612f-f549-4e6e-8c71-257d6bdedbb9. This is exactly the
same UUID I found in menu.lst examples:
(...)
## ## Start Default Options ##
## default kernel options
## default kernel options for automagic boot options
## If you want special options for specific kernels use kopt_x_y_z
## where x.y.z is kernel version. Minor versions can be omitted.
## e.g. kopt=root=/dev/hda1 ro
## kopt_2_6_8=root=/dev/hdc1 ro
## kopt_2_6_8_2_686=root=/dev/hdc2 ro
## kopt=root=UUID=11fa612f-f549-4e6e-8c71-257d6bdedbb9 ro
(...)

So I guess someone made a mistake here.

[Bug 201949] Re: [hardy] security policy problem after upgrade

2008-03-22 Thread boskicinek
apparently solution to this bug is to execute:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure hal
sudo dpkg-reconfigure dbus

I also executed: sudo dpkg-reconfigure hal-info, but it's probably not
necessary.

[Bug 198355] [NEW] ipw2200: no wireless networks after installation in network-manager

2008-03-04 Thread boskicinek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

Hi,
I have this problem since feisty. When I'm using kubuntu LiveCD network manager
works fine - I can see wireless networks, connect to them, etc. However, after
I install kubuntu to my hdd stops working - knetworkmanager doesn't display
any wireless networks, Connection Status shows me No active device,
disabling/enabling Wireless doesn't work either making network manager
completly useless for me. I can setup wireless network in kubuntu system
settings, I can connect to any wireless network with Wireless Assistant app,
but knetworkmanager (and also nm-applet from Gnome) just simply doesn't work.
The only thing I'm changing during installation is host name.
Here's some additional info:

[Bug 198141] [NEW] [hardy] [regression] acpi is totally broken on hp compaq nx6110/intel i915

2008-03-03 Thread boskicinek
Public bug reported:

Hi,
I have some serious problems with ACPI on HP Compaq NX6110. Short summary:
Hibernate: works
Suspend to RAM: suspend is sort of OK, but wake up is totally broken
Lid button: totally mess

As I said, hibernate is working, but it's probably not part of ACPI and it's
the least useful option on laptops anyway.
When I try to use Suspend from guidance-power-manager menu nothing happens
(except that guidance is locking my session, but it has nothing to do with
ACPI). I thought it's hal/dbus fault and I installed hibernate package and try
to use my working hibernate configuration from feisty. When I run sudo
hibernate suspend seems to works. The disk and screen are turning off and I
get usual leds blinking meaning that the machine is suspended. But when I hit
Power button it doesn't wake up - backlight never lights up, leds are turned
off etc. But after repeatedly pressing power button somethings happen (hdd and
other leds are blinking, WiFi led lights up) and then I get reboot.
And about Lid button: it works, but really strange. After I press Lid button
everything looks fine - guidance give me proper notice (laptop lid is closed,
blanking screen now) and my display is turning off. Then, when I open lid it
lights up, but after a minute guidance detect closed lid again and my display
is turning off again. The only way to stop this behavior is sudo
/etc/init.d/acpid stop - stopping guidance/dbus/hal doesn't help. And there's
also something wrong with the display, because when I try to watch movie in
mplayer using xv output while using AC adapter, backlight level is changing
automatically to level that is used while on battery only and stays that way
until I press acpi buttons for changing backlight. Definitely weird. And it
gets better: lid butto seems to work fine when I'm on battery only.

For the record: everything worked fine on feisty. I tried Alpha 3, 4, 5
and up to date hardy, but it's still broken.

[Bug 188424] [NEW] [hardy] sudo unable to resolv hostname

2008-02-02 Thread boskicinek
Public bug reported:

Hi, I recently installed Hardy Heron Alpha 3. During the install I
changed hostname to, say, myhostname. After reboot I wasn't able to
use sudo, because it was giving me error: unable to resolv hostname. My
problem, and solution is identical to this:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/9471, except the mentioned one is from
2005 and is closed as fixed.

** Affects: sudo (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 188429] [NEW] [hardy] hal lid button cosntantly turning off display

2008-02-02 Thread boskicinek
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hal

It's very hard to tell if this is a hal problem, but it's my best guess, so
forgive me if I'm wrong.
I have this annoying problem since alpha 3: after I press the lid switch in my
laptop by closing the display, Ubuntu starts to constantly turning off my
display every 30 seconds, despites the lid is not pressed anymore. It's
extremely annoying and the only solution I found is sudo /etc/init.d/hal
stop. It helps, but usually not for long, since hal appears to start again (by
something else in my kubuntu installation probably) automatically.
Also the display is turning off after I press my WiFi card (ipw2200) kill
switch (!).
Some additional info:
$ sudo dpkg-query -l|grep hal
