[Bug 521175] Re: Plymouth AND Automatic Login enabled system freezes
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 518352 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/518352 Wow, I'm nobody to teach anyone lessons but... ok, let's analyze this closure you just did: - You didn't wait for the user that reported the issue to confirm whether adding 'splash' solves the problem. - You didn't even ask the rest of the people (that have confirmed the issue) if they have that option disabled too. - You didn't wait not even 30 minutes to let anyone reply before you closed as duplicate. Confirmation, hello? - The descriptions in both bugs don't even match. Nothing there related to autologin just to put a minor example. Now just think for a second the amount of time these testers (specially vmc) have spent in giving you shitloads of information for you to incorrectly close this in 2 minutes for a minor suspicion of similarity with another bug (which fails to make complete sense in my humble opinion). My problems with these kind of freezes went lower until almost dissapear, but were still there with edgy, feisty, and now with gutsy. Hi. I had to uninstall it today because I need eclipse for my project and it's the only workaround that works. Till today I was using up-to-dated gutsy version (2.18.1-2ubuntu1). As I read, java vm is hiding its bugs by catching their own segfaults. Bug buddy also catches them and thus make eclipse crash. So what they did to solve is just catching the applications that don't catch the signals themselves. I suffered from crashes many times a day while changing from an opened file to another (not the bug of libgtk2.0, that was due to the tooltips). After uninstalling bug-buddy there's no more crashes (till now). If I can help in any other way, make me know. Mario, when you've got the workaround, post here the module lirc_gpio.ko (compiled for 2.6.22-8-generic). I'll write it to /lib/modules/ and try to load it. If it does, I'll test it with irw command. If all of that works, then I'll make the final test by undoing the changes to bttv I did and testing again with irw. BTW, if you make this work exporting those functions into lirc's source, I'll take a look at the code. [Bug 125384] Re: Lirc GPIO module not buildable on 2.6.22 kernel
Is that possible? Lost functions are provided by an external module (bttv), so if you want to implement those functions inside lirc_gpio, it should have access to the internal implementation of bttv. And that would require to export all the variables and functions that those 2 functions use, to be visible by lirc_gpio... Mmmm... I don't think it's a good idea. It's a lot simplier just adding that code to those 2 files in the kernel sources, IMHO. -- Lirc GPIO module not buildable on 2.6.22 kernel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/125384 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 125384] Re: Lirc GPIO module not buildable on 2.6.22 kernel
I think you didn't understand... Well, this is a problem with lirc, but it's because linux developers have dropped some functions from the BTTV module. There's a new API to be used, but lirc developers haven't change the code to adapt it. It's unlikely that they fix it before Gutsy is released (and maybe before Gutsy+1 even), so, in order to fix the problem I added the dropped functions in the kernel files. What I wan't is to add these lines in the kernel source, so BTTV module is built with support for lirc_gpio. So, the package affected is linux- source, not the headers. [Bug 125384] Re: Lirc GPIO module not buildable on 2.6.22 kernel
After reading posts in the mailing list of Lirc, and the bug you filed in launchpad, I started thinking about how to solve this problem. Well, I got it Now I'm running Lirc with 2.6.22 kernel using lirc_gpio module. I simply added the functions droped in the source code, recompiled some modules, installed them and recompile Lirc. Of course this is a temporal fix till Lirc devs adapt the code to the new API, but it's unlike that that's done before Gutsy is frozen, so this patch should do the trick. [Bug 91982] xchat-gnome wont start again after setting transparency background
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xchat-gnome I can't reproduce exactly the steps because I'm unable to open again xchat. I was changing the settings. The first one I changed was to set transparency as background. At that moment, the program crashed. When I try to open again it won't. Launching it from terminal sends this output: $ xchat-gnome 0 The program 'xchat-gnome' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadImplementation (server does not implement operation)'. (Details: serial 617 error_code 17 request_code 129 minor_code 5) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. [Bug 87687] Re: New git snapshot required for xorg 7.2/feisty
I've read all the post and I can't understand some statements... - We can't take this patch to the repositories.. because it can fail... Well... NOW it doesn't work at all. So it's better to have something that can fail (or not) rather than something that does fail - Changing this, can bring new bugs and it's too late No, it isn't. There are many (but really many) users with fglrx driver that are affected by this issue. And there's time to create a team (call it as you wish) at the forums to test the new packages and file bugs. Just creating and sticking a thread asking for support will work.. I'm sure, I would help too. - There's no time to solve this Better now than tomorrow :P The alternative is giving no support for XGL at all in Feisty. And that's not an acceptable alternative for many users. They surely will search for 3rd party repos (is that the security everybody wants for them?) or simply stay with Edgy till Feisty+1 At least that's what I think.
