[Bug 1712089] Re: Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 keyUnable to init server: Could not connect: Connection refused

2018-02-20 Thread jerrylamos
"Wayland" doesn't appear to care how many bugs they have created with
their philosophical decision to not allow actions like "sudo synaptic"
starting a graphical application from the command line. Is there any
rationale??

Thanks, Jerry

[Bug 1650750] Re: bluetooth connection keeps getting turned off after update

2016-12-20 Thread jerrylamos
This bug goes away with Zesty Zappos kernel.
Zesty fixed Xenial's bios problem.
Problem solved I'll use Zesty waiting to see if an update to Zesty brings the
problem back.

Trusty LTS no problem with keyboard, same PC, same keyboard, different
partition.

On Xenial LTS, All Settings -> BlueTooth -> Devices -> Anker A7721 ->
turn keyboard on, "On" flashes on screen and shuts right off.

Why did Linux turn the keyboard off??

Xenial used to stay on before last update.

Zero, what windows/selections/places do you use to do "Network browsing"?
What do you select with mouse and type in?

[Bug 1536841] Re: xenial can't access network printer 14.04.3 no problem

2016-05-04 Thread jerrylamos
With a lot of effort and million monkeys on the keyboard I was finally able to
get Xenial to access Windows 10 printer.
Yakkety Yak same problem all over again.
I'll flail around a bit and open another bug if necessary.
Conclusion, Ubuntu developers don't have a Windows 10 on their network to check
compatibility in the real world.

[Bug 1507255] Re: Garbled graphics in Wily with Intel GMA4500 chip

2016-04-08 Thread jerrylamos
A couple weeks ago I did a fresh install of ubuntu-14.04.desktop.iso LTS
and the garbled text bug 1507255 was back. Usual fix of

Section "Device"
   Identifier "Intel Graphics"
   Driver "intel"
Option "AccelMethod" "uxa"
EndSection

worked.

Xenial new installs have been fine lately. Putting that uxa fix in
Xenial prevents X windows from running.

[Bug 1507255] Re: Garbled graphics in Wily with Intel GMA4500 chip

2016-03-20 Thread jerrylamos
Starting in November 2014 Ubuntu X windows screwed up with
VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 4 Series Chipset Integrated
Graphics Controller (rev 03)
making Wallpaper badly hashed.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1507255
Then a couple months later even Ubuntu text badly garbled, illegible.
Workarond was:

/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf
Section "Device"
   Identifier "Intel Graphics"
   Driver "intel"
Option "AccelMethod" "uxa"
EndSection

So in every install since Nov. 2014 I've been making that change.
As of March 2016, that change screws up X windows and can't get desktop.

Voila, not needed, Xwindows now running fine. That took Ubuntu a year and a
half to fix.
Wonder how long ubuntu Xwindows will stay fixted

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1548977 ***

This bug is not the same as 1548977 so 1551003 should not be marked as a

1548977 reports missing items which are not missing on my Xenial such as
trash.

2016-03-12 Thread jerrylamos
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1548977 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1548977

This bug is not the same as #1548977 because Xenial Files here does
have "trash" while #1548977 says it does not.

I don't do "format" from "Files" so I don't know what that is in
#1548977.

Formatting I use gparted which has a whole lot more function for that
service.

So this bug is not the same as #1548977

[Bug 1551003] Re: Xenial Files cannot browse network

2016-03-06 Thread jerrylamos
The browse network function omitted from Xenial Files (Nautilus)

Easiest workaround apt-get install Nemo

Another workaround,
start Files
Ctrl l that's a lower case L
network:///

does browse network. Just hard for me to remember these command line
like commands. Prefer GUI

Note, nemo displays partition very useful to me as I test various levels of
ubuntu on several partitions. I might do an install every couple weeks or so
looking for bugs.

I don't know how to display partition with Files (Nautilus).

Thanks for looking at this problem.

2016-03-04 Thread jerrylamos
Installed Nemo file manager since Xenial Files does not have the Browse
Network feature that Trusty does.

With Nemo browsing the network just fine to Windows 10 was able to get
printer installed. Not a BIOS problem.

Entered a bug against Ubuntu Files, confirmed, missing browse network
selection caused by a "bot" whatever that means.

2016-03-04 Thread jerrylamos
Not fixed in 14.04.4 LTS. 14.04 originally did not have this garbled
problem, but a fresh install of 14.04 does.

Should I enter a new bug against 14.04 LTS since this Xenial bug is
fixed? 14.04 is supposed to be supported until 2019 I think.

[Bug 1404247] Re: Vivid Wallpaper hashed

2016-01-31 Thread jerrylamos
I tested
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/

Wallpaper badly garbled.

Images from ubuntu O.K., but any text sent by ubuntu badly garbled
unreadable.

Fix in comment #41 works fine.

Do note, 14.04 LTS had been running fine until 1/29 update screwed up network,
so I
re-installed 14.04
Surprise, 14.04 now garbled too. Fix in comment #41 worked fine.

It's a bit of a struggle. Booting the .iso text from ubuntu unreadable.
I've done enough installs to guess what the choices are.

Re-boot after install complete, text from ubuntu badly garbled, I have
to muddle around to find the fix #41 and reboot. Now fine.

Christopher, will try kernel 4.5-rc1.

Current status on two pc's, xenial can set up the printer, print test page,

Release the page and it never prints.

14.04 LTS on the same pc, different partition prints fine.

2016-01-30 Thread jerrylamos
14.04 still printing fine. Actually, yesterday's ubuntu update screwed
up the network on 14.04 so I did a fresh install, printer works fine.
All the same hardware just a different partition from 4.5 RC1

4.5 RC1 printer installs O.K., connects, do a print, and all it gets is
processing/pending

forever

Attached is screenshot

I could do an ubuntu-bug with the "processing" if there's any one
who could see why it is stuck.

[Bug 1536841] Re: xenial can't access network printer 14.04.3 no problem

2016-01-25 Thread jerrylamos
Tried the xenial 4.4 kernel listed in #3.

Connected to network printer settings says O.K. jpg files read fine
from the networked XP.

Submit print job, queque shows "completed", but nothing ever prints
except from 14.04 which works fine.

Booted another partition with xenial 4.3.0-7, connected to printer, says
O.K. jpg files read fine, the network connection O.K. for files.

Submitted print job. queue shows "completed" but nothing prints, except
from 14.04 which works fine.

Any clue what to try next? Thanks.

[Bug 1507255] Re: Garbled graphics in Wily with Intel GMA4500 chip

2015-11-15 Thread jerrylamos
My comments on entry #13:
gedit 20-intel.conf
Copy in the lines starting with Section and ending with EndSection:
[code]
Section "Device"
   Identifier "Intel Graphics"
   Driver "intel"
   Option "AccelMethod" "uxa"
EndSection
[/code]
save
quit
sudo cp 20-intel.conf /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d
enter your password

Check to see if the entry made it into the directory O.K.:
cat /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf

Now /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d is read once on boot so you have to reboot for
it to take effect.
What this configuration does is tell X11 to use the method "uxa" an older
section of code, since on this pc the newer code "sna" screws up.

If this configuration doesn't work for you, then delete the
20-intel.conf entry in /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d

Now Xenial and Wily install .iso's are a real bear to read on this Lenovo M58p
because of the garbled text. On finish of install, before I do a reboot, I use
the install ubunto to make the conf.d entry into the target ubuntu install.
That's a bit tricky.
Let us know how you do.

2015-11-08 Thread jerrylamos
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1507255 ***

Finally a workaround was posted on Launchpad. I've been battling this
bug for 11 months:

#sudo nano /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf

#Add the following lines
Section "Device"
   Identifier "Intel Graphics"
   Driver "intel"

Option "AccelMethod" "uxa"
EndSection

#reboot

[Bug 1507255] Re: Garbled graphics in Wily with Intel GMA4500 chip

Comment #8 works in Xenial Xerus as well.

Yay, I can read the screen, wallpaper is right, wonder how long the fix
will work.

[Bug 1507255] Re: Garbled graphics in Wily with Intel GMA4500 chip

2015-10-29 Thread jerrylamos
How do I tell if this Lenovo M58p has the Intel GMA4500 chip?
Wily gives me fits with hashing. Can't read text even.
Xenial slightly better. Text sent out by Ubuntu is totally hashed. Text I
type in on the terminal window is readable. Wallpaper and images are hashed
unintelligible.

Current workaround, this is Xenial with 3.17.8031708 installed from Ubuntu
Kernels:

Wily and Xenial linux images badly garble screen.

Installed this from Ubuntu Kernels on top of Xenial:
linux-image-3.17.1-031701-generic_3.17.1-031701.201410150735_amd64.deb

Works just fine, but means I'm not testing Wily or Xenial.

[Bug 1404247] Re: Vivid Wallpaper hashed

2015-10-20 Thread jerrylamos
Latest Wily:
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 15.10"
Linux Lenovo2 4.2.0-16-generic #19-Ubuntu SMP Thu Oct 8 15:35:06 UTC 2015

model name : Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 4 Series Chipset
Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)

Wallpaper badly hashed. Files > Pictures > select jpg displays just
fine.

Some screen text displayed fine, other text hashed such as top line
Close Min Max

Files > Home badly hashed, select Screenshot and displays fine even
after closing Screenshot.

Typing in some text unreadable hash, mouse click outside the window
text now readable.

Wily kernel must be using different X calls.

Best solution is Trusty Tahr linux image on top of Wily.

2015-09-25 Thread jerrylamos
Public bug reported:

Wily Beta 2 .iso booted O.K,, started install, could not understand time

[Bug 1404247] Re: Vivid Wallpaper hashed

2015-09-21 Thread jerrylamos
Shotwell display badly hashed.

Image Viewer display just fine.

Both on the screen at the same time in the attached screenshot.

How do I get the display routine used by Image Viewer to be used by
Shotwell and Lightdm?

Note, part of screen behind the images shows badly hashed unreadable
desktop.

I update most days, verify bad screen display, then reboot Wily using
the Utopic kernel and all is fine.

[Bug 1404247] Re: Vivid Wallpaper hashed

2015-09-12 Thread jerrylamos
Comment #36, this is a desk top so the display is hooked to the VGA
port. I think there's only one display port on this Lenovo M58p.

Interesting, boot with Wily kernel,
Background Wallpaper hashed
Settings Appearance Wallpapers thumbnails hashed
Files Pictures displays same jpg fine
command line Gsettings fails screen all brown does not display the desired jpg
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background picture-uri
'file:home/jerry/Pictures/Shark_Island.jpg'

Reboot with Utopic kernel
Background Wallpaper still hashed
Settings Appearance Wallpapers thumbnails fine
Wallpaper displays just like Files Pictures
gsettings still fails: brown screen instead of the desired jpg
with Utopic kernel,
Settings Appearance Wallpaper works fine.

How come with Wily kernel Files Pictures jpg's display fine but Settings
Appearance Wallpapers is hashed?

What's the difference in the code to display with Files vs. Settings Appearance?
Even in Settings Appearance, the little monitor picture is O.K. but the
thumbnails are all hashed?

Thanks.

[Bug 1490543] Re: gsettings fails to set wallpaper

2015-09-12 Thread jerrylamos
as of Sept 12 Wily updates gsettings still fails to work, reverts to
default brown screen.

Installed Utopic kernel on Wily, now Settings Appearance Wallpaper
displays jpg fine. With Wily kernel displays unreadable.

gsettings settings fails with Utopic kernel on Wily.

With Utopic kernel on Wily,, Settings Appearance Wallpapers sets
Wallpaper O.K.

Nothing in syslog or .xsession-errors or Xorg.0.log when gsettings
fails.

Is there any way to get something back from gsettings when it doesn't
work?

[Bug 1404247] Re: Vivid Wallpaper hashed

2015-09-10 Thread jerrylamos
Wily getting worse and worse.

Much screen text hashed unreadable. A couple weeks ago it was just
Wallpaper.

Do note, Files Pictures select jpg displays jpg just fine. Settings
Appearance all hashed.

See attached screenshot.

Do note with hashed unreadable text as in gedit, selecting screenshot
may clear up the text, after screenshot unreadable again.

Status says "Incomplete" What would you like?

Thanks.

[Bug 1404247] Re: Vivid Wallpaper hashed

2015-09-10 Thread jerrylamos
Kernel:

linux-image-3.17.0-031700-generic_3.17.0-031700.201410060605_amd64.deb

works fine installed into Wily.
I think it's one of the last Utopic kernels

So my drill is, update or install latest Wily, verify screen display is
all screwed up,

Then install a kernel that will work.

I'm not a developer so I've got no way to find what changed (lots!) that
would affect screen display.

[Bug 1404247] Re: Vivid Wallpaper hashed

2015-09-10 Thread jerrylamos
Thanks for looking at the bug.

I switch between Mily looking for bugs, and LTS when I can't get
something done with Mily because I can't read the screen.

I might try another kernel from kernel-ppa/mainline.

I don't know how to downlevel X to say, whatever it was in November 2014
when everything was fine.

Very strange when Mily Files can display a jpg just fine, then Desktop
and Terminal get it all screwed up. Must use different routines.

I have run other flavors. I come back to Unity when I can. I'm used to
how to get things done with Unity.

[Bug 1404247] Re: Vivid Wallpaper hashed

2015-09-09 Thread jerrylamos
Update complete Wily as of display.

Appearances Background all pictures horizontally hashed, both the ubuntu
supplied ones and my jpg's.

Wallpaper horribly hashed and will not recover even with multiple
wallpaper settings. which used to clear things up until the changes of
last week.

Files Picture viewer looks just fine.

Not only the wallpaper, but the text windows hashed unreadable.

Worst yet.

Earlier Wily much better, 14.04 LTS perfect.

[Bug 1492603] Re: Unity buttons off left side of screen with 9/4/2015 update

2015-09-08 Thread jerrylamos
I typically use 1280 x 720 resolution easier for me to read.
That's a resolution where after last week's update the screen is shifted left,
black margin on the right, and unity buttons fall off the left. Hide is off.
If I change to 1368 x 768 the unity buttons are visible.
The monitor will actually support 1920 x 1080 but I'd have to use a magnifying
glass.

Looks like X doesn't support resolutions it used to for this hardware.
Wily Display options in settings:
1920 x 1080
1360 x 768
1280 x 960
1280 x 720 my preferred for readability
1024 x 768
800 x 600

If I shift back to a Wily a month old works with that level kernel.
Looks like X + linux has dropped support of 1280 x 720.

BTW, at the moment this is 14.04 LTS. Runs great. I'll shift back to
doing battle with Wily later today.

[Bug 1490543] Re: gsettings fails to set wallpaper

Whatever was changed to day really messed things up. Gsettings still
fails. Turns wallpaper to brown however terminal window screen text
garbaged. Never did that before today's updates.

There seem to be a number of logs - is there any of what updates were
installed today? I couldn't find any in /var/log

Screen is messed up. Let me try today's Daily Build which likely
doesn't have today's updates. Might work better

[Bug 1404247] Re: Vivid Wallpaper hashed

2015-09-02 Thread jerrylamos
Opened a bug for gsettings failure described in comment #26:

gsettings fails to set wallpaper 1490543

Gsettings fails on both the Lenovo M58p with the hashing problem
Gsettings also fails on Acer 5253 laptop which does not have the hashing problem

In both pc's Settings Appearance Wallpapers Pictures folder works, but
on the Lenovo may have to be repeated several times.

which is the latest I saw, dated 8-30-2015.

gsettings still fails, wallpaper turns into some brown default.

Settings Appearance still works.

This is the code that fails that worked fine a couple weeks ago:

#!/bin/bash
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background picture-uri
'file:home/jerry/Pictures/Shark_Island.jpg'
exit 0

I also tried this gsettings on an Acer Laptop with Wily updated
recently, gsettings fails the same way.

Note that the linux-headers-4.2.0-040200_4.2.0-040200.201508301530_
is a bit of a bear because the desktop icons fall off the left of the screen so
it's pretty hard to guess where the icons are.

[Bug 1490543] [NEW] gsettings fails to set wallpaper

2015-08-31 Thread jerrylamos
Public bug reported:

until recent updates,

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background picture-uri
'file:home/jerry/Pictures/Shark_Island.jpg'

reset wallpaper to the desired picture. Most of the time Wily boots to
a horizontally hashed wallpaper which used to be corrected by doing
gsettings once or twice or three times, now I have to go to settings >
wallpaper > to set the jpg several times until it clears up.

Now gsettings fails, gets the original brown screen. gsettings is
broken failing to set the desired wallpaper.

[Bug 1484083] Re: Don't work autologin after update lightdm

2015-08-16 Thread jerrylamos
This is Ubuntu Unity which had the autologin failure in spite of install
specifying autologin and settings autologin as well.

As in Post #11 now fixed, just commented out the line.

Problem occurred this week with fresh install of Wily .iso daily build.
Also occurred on my laptop with just Wily updates.

Forcing login also caused massive multiple xserver resets which screwed
up wallpaper. Wallpaper was fine, no idea why just logging in caused
xserver resets much more complex than settings wallpaper does.

[Bug 1485274] Re: Screen locking issue - automatic login ON but must enter password anyway

2015-08-16 Thread jerrylamos
Ubuntu forum post fixed problem on Lenovo. Will try Acer next:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2290845p=13339649#post13339649

Xubuntu failed using autologin.
The fix is to remove the line autologin-session=lightdm-autologin from
/etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf, as that option has been unimplemented, per post#8
from this
bug report. #1484083

I'm using Ubuntu Unity fix worked for me as well.

'file:home/jerry/Pictures/Shark_Island.jpg'

Doesn't do anything. Used to reset wallpaper.

Have to go to System Settings Appearance Wallpapers Picture Folder
select the jpg and it works. May have to do it a couple times.

Why is wallpaper just fine on boot, then after log in gets screwed up?

Thanks for any ideas.

[Bug 1484226] [NEW] Wily after log in wallpaper hashed

2015-08-12 Thread jerrylamos
Public bug reported:

As of .iso daily live fresh install yesterday,

Boots to correct wallpaper.

Log in, screen flashes must be some kind of xorg reset, and then
wallpaper hashed.

gsettings no longer works:

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background picture-uri
'file:home/jerry/Pictures/Shark_Island.jpg'

Doesn't do anything. Used to reset wallpaper.

Have to go to System Settings Appearance Wallpapers Picture Folder
select the jpg and it works. May have to do it a couple times.

Why is wallpaper just fine on boot, then after log in gets screwed up?

Thanks for any ideas.

[Bug 1406802] Re: Vivid Unity Wallpaper horizontally hashed

2015-07-21 Thread jerrylamos
Certainly still affects Wily:

DISTRIB_RELEASE=15.10
DISTRIB_CODENAME=wily
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION=Ubuntu Wily Werewolf (development branch)
Linux Lenovo2 4.0.0-4-generic #7-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jul 9 15:17:01 UTC 2015 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
model name : Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz
model name : Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 4 Series Chipset
Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)

not as bad as 15.04 since 15.10 sometimes comes up with correct
wallpaper display while 15.04 practically never does.

14.04-2 LTS runs just fine, thank you. Watching the updates which I do
daily, xserver-xorg-intel updates seems to be the most likely to affect
the display.

I change wallpaper back and forth between two copies of the same jpg,
different names, like so:

#!/bin/bash
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background picture-uri
'file:home/jerry/Pictures/Shark_Island.jpg'
exit 0

A bit of a pain but livable for a tester used to half baked releases
with problems.

[Bug 1404247] Re: Vivid Wallpaper hashed

2015-06-29 Thread jerrylamos
Wily O.K. for a couple weeks and I had my hpes up. Then got dread update:
xserver intel update

Now wallpeper usually boots horizontally striped hashed, sometimes boots
wallpaper O.K.

I don't know how to down level xserver intel?

Wallpaper can be fixed by alternately doing the following once or twice
or three times ...:

#!/bin/bash
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background picture-uri
'file:home/jerry/Pictures/Shark_Island.jpg'
exit 0

alternately with

#!/bin/bash
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background picture-uri
'file:home/jerry/Pictures/Shark_Island2.jpg'
exit 0

same jpg with two different names.

Other jpg's fail similarly including default wallpapers.

Note, similar to bug #1406802

Lenovo M58p desktop here,

Whatever reason, Wily running O.K. here. I took a .iso in case of a

2015-06-03 Thread jerrylamos
Updated Wily today to kernel:
3.19.0-20-generic #20-Ubuntu SMP Fri May 29 10:10:47 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64
x86_64 GNU/Linux

Eight times out of nine booted with normal wallpaper. Hashed once which was
readily fixed with command line:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background picture-uri
'file:home/jerry/Pictures/Shark_Island.jpg'

Getting better, waiting for the next dread update. This is U+1 after
all. There's always LTS which runs fine, thank you.

Booted 15.04 Mate .iso and the wallpaper was hashed. See attachment.

Installed Mate in another partition, booted, wallpaper hashed.

Rebooted, wallpaper O.K.

I suspect Mate 14.04 would be O.K. Have not tried it.

[Bug 1406802] Re: Vivid Unity Wallpaper horizontally hashed

2015-05-30 Thread jerrylamos
I run standard Ubuntu and am not familiar with MATE. A couple years ago
I may have tried it briefly in another Linux distro. I forget. Months
ago I tried Lubuntu which as I remember didn't have the hashing
problem. I think it uses LXDE. There's Kubuntu, Gnome, ... however many
variations of Ubuntu.I've tried NEXT a couple of times but it didn't
do much so I don't know if it has the problem. Now there's Snappy I'
ve no clue what desktop it has or just command line?.

I use out of the box Ubuntu U+1 looking for bugs that would be
applicable to the most (?) users. Unity has had lots of
bugsincluding this one..

How is MATE installed? Can I switch between Mate and Unity desktops or
do I do an install?

How is MATE removed after testing it? example re-installing standard
Ubuntu or just starting Unity?

Thanks.

BTW, my impression this bug is closely tied to xserver or to how Ubuntu
Unity is using xserver. I have other pc's with different hardware and
different video chips that don't exhibit this problem. This Lenovo M58p
has an Intel 64 bit dual processor 3 GHz and is the fastest of my pc's.
All is not great with 15.10 on the other pc's example an Intel 32 bit 3
GHz Compaq which has annoyingly slow video with 15.05 and 15.10 but
14.04 video is quite usable. I've forgotten which video benchmarks
might be more believable to the Ubuntu Devs?

[Bug 1406802] Re: Vivid Unity Wallpaper horizontally hashed

2015-05-19 Thread jerrylamos
Wily 15.10 is much better than 15.04. About half the time Wily comes up
O.K., if not maybe one set wallpape fixes it.

There've been Wily xserver updates to xserver - one of the xserver
updates made hashing wallpaper worse, next update now much better than
15.04.

Of course 14.10 and preceding levels of Ubuntu are fine.

I've seen mention of a BIOS update perhaps could affect this, perhaps
not. If the update process screws up I've got a dead computer. Not
willing to risk it at the moment.

[Bug 1404247] Re: Vivid Wallpaper hashed

2015-05-19 Thread jerrylamos
Bios update is in 1404247 - if it screws up I've got a dead computer.

1410 and before run just fine.

November and before 1504 ran fine. Win7 just fine. (Well, pretty slow
it's Microsoft)

1504 December and on to now pretty bad. I have to set wallpaper
multiple times.

At the moment, Wily much improved - maybe half the time boots to good
wallpaper just fine, the other half needs one set wallpaper.

Seems to be sensitive to xserver. Any way to try 1410 level of xserver
in 1510?

Thanks, Jerry

As of 17 May Wily update,

Now, hashing much harder to get rid of by multiple set wallpaper.

How do I tell if the bug fix is in Wily? If so, it doesn't work. If
not, when can I try the fix?

[Bug 1406802] Re: Vivid Unity Wallpaper horizontally hashed

2015-05-12 Thread jerrylamos
Still very much there on boot of vivid and wily.

Do note, nautilus pictures select wallpaper once or twice or three
times wallpaper displays correctly as it does on 14.10, 14.04, etc.

I made a command line version which works sometimes:

gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background picture-url
'file:home/jerry/Pictures/Shark_Island.jpg'

What's different now in the set wallpaper script or exec or whatever
devs call it? Vivid was fine in Nov., in Dec. Vivid changed something
in the code. Anyone have records or any way to compare what changed in
Vivid in Set Wallpaper?

Any way for me to put previous set wallpaper routines in Vivid and Wily?

Thanks...

I looked at the Lenovo support site.
The BIOS upgrade is for Win7 64 so I'll have to boot that ( if Ubuntu Grub

work.
Of course if a BIOS update fails I've got a dead computer.

[Bug 1405867] Re: Settings Appearance Wallpaper does not change wallpaper until Nautilus process is killed and restarted

2015-03-18 Thread jerrylamos
Fixed for me here, I'm the originator of the bug report.

I still have another wallpaper bug #1404247 on every boot the wallpaper
is hashed horizontally. Files Pictures select a jpg set as
wallpaper fixes the wallpaper until the next boot.

[Bug 1406802] Re: Vivid Unity Wallpaper horizontally hashed

2015-03-09 Thread jerrylamos
Yesterday installed Nov 11 Vivid .iso in another partition. Wallpaper
works fine. As of mid December to present, every boot wallpaper screwed
up on Lenovo M58p

Files Pictures select jpg set as wallpaper a couple times get
correct wallpaper display.

Reboot, all screwed up again.

What's different in the Set Wallpaper packages between Nov. 11 and mid
December that screwed up the display? Any way to compare the two since
they are in two different partitions?

[Bug 1404247] Re: Vivid Wallpaper hashed

2015-03-08 Thread jerrylamos
Comment #11 found earlier vivid wallpaper works fine. (as does 14.10, 14.04,
...)
Nov. 10 vivid .iso fresh install on another partition.
Boots with wallpaper O.K. every time.

Vivid as of mid December updated/installed wallpaper screwed up on every boot.
This is a vivid apt-get update, apt-get dist-upgrade as of early March.
Wallpaper still screwed up on every boot.
Files Pictures Select jpg set as wallpaper
has to be done maybe twice and then wallpaper O.K.
Kernel 4-RC2 or 3.19-7 no difference, wallpaper screws up on boot, then set
wallpaper a couple times to get good wallpaper.

Both the older good vivid and the latest vivid are installed in separate
partitions.

Any way to tell what packages are involved in set wallpaper and how to
tell what changed?

Thanks.

[Bug 1404247] Re: Vivid Wallpaper hashed

2015-02-25 Thread jerrylamos
Comment #7, where is the update history found?
Likely hundreds of updates in December.
This install is a couple days old, still has the problem.
What packages are involved in Set Wallpaper?
Any way to put Set Wallpaper back to early December? All my vivid iso's are
now in February.

[Bug 1404247] Re: Vivid Wallpaper hashed

2015-02-23 Thread jerrylamos
Testing vervid I do updates most days and installs every couple weeks.
Typically there are a whole pile of packages (!) so us users don't install
package by package so we can't tell which caused the trouble.
I reported the bug on Dec. 19 and the bug persists on every update and every
couple weeks a new .iso install still has the bug example this one zsync'd a
couple days ago.

Now of course 14.04 and 14.10 and earlier 15.04's do not have the bug.
Neither does Win7.

The closest I can get to the bug is:
Boot
Wallpaper hashed. Drop down windows O.K.
File Pictures right click on desired jpg - I've tried a number, both mine
and the ubuntu wallpapers
Set as Wallpaper
After one or two or three tries the wallpaper is correct, no hash.

What packages are involved in Set as Wallpaper?

Thanks for looking at this bug.

I run ubuntu vivid 64 on this Lenovo M58p. I haven't tried ubuntu vivid
32.
