[Bug 651586] Re: Mozilla Thunderbird and Firefox spellcheck has too many languages

2014-06-03 Thread komputes
I really hope so. Spell check in default mozilla applications is bulky
and needs to simplified.

Mozilla developers, please have a look at how Chromium handles the the
same task, I am honestly impressed. (see attachment)

** Attachment added: How Chromium handles the the task of selecting spellcheck
languages available to the user. Attachment: chromium_fixed_it.png

[Bug 263435] Re: Cannot use firefox keyboard shortcuts when flash object is selected

2014-03-30 Thread komputes
** Summary changed:

- Firefox cannot close tab (using Ctrl-w) when flash content is selected on page
+ Cannot use firefox keyboard shortcuts when flash object is selected

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: flashplugin-nonfree

- Firefox cannot close tab (using Ctrl-w) or switch to next tab (using
- Ctrl-Tab) when flash content is selected on page.
+ Firefox cannot close tab (using Ctrl-w) or Quit (using Ctrl-q) or switch
+ to next tab (using Ctrl-Tab) when flash content is selected on page.

  Steps to reproduce:
  1) Open a new Tab
  2) Go to a website with flash content (in this case youtube.com)
  3) Selected the flash content by clicking on it (in this case click on play)
  4) While the content plays, press a keyboard shortcut (in this case Ctrl-w to
close the tab)

Result: The shortcut is not registered by firefox, the tab remains open
Expectation: The shortcut should be registered by firefox, the tab should
close

A good way of knowing that selecting the flash content is at the root
of the problem: if you select a part of the page that is not flash
content (in this case empty white space at the right or the left of the
video) followed by Ctrl-W, the tab closes.

  Version Information:
  Ubuntu Hardy (2.6.24-19-generic)
  firefox 3.0.1+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.3
  flashplugin-nonfree 9.0.124.0ubuntu2

[Bug 1103042] Re: network-manager service stopped at boot

2013-01-23 Thread komputes
What you see in the logs is from me running sudo dhclient eth0
manually and sudo service network-manager restart.

I do not have any connectivity at boot, Network Manager service is
stopped at boot. The indicator only shows up after running sudo service
network-manager restart.

[Bug 1103042] [NEW] network-manager service stopped at boot

2013-01-22 Thread komputes
Public bug reported:

The network-manager service does not start up automatically at boot.
This is only after an update. This seems to affect two machines with
different hardware. I've also noticed at boot that on both machines it
waits a long time for network configuration.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Install Ubuntu 12.04.1 Server 32-bit
2) Reboot
3) Install ubuntu-desktop and lxde packages
4) Reboot
5) Log in graphically

What happens:
In Unity network-manager does not show up
In LXDE it does show up but clicking on it says NetworkManager service not
started
(If this is not reproducible, run update-manager and then and reboot with the
latest packages)

Expected:
Network Manager should start with the session, nm-applet should be visible.

Workaround:
sudo service network-manager restart

[Bug 789242] Re: Startup Disk Creator requiring multiple authentications.

2013-01-22 Thread komputes
The issue where usb-creator fails if the user is not there to
authenticate promptly to Installing the boot loader password prompt is
also discussed in Bug #859539 and Bug #722019. It seems to depend on
MAX_DBUS_TIMEOUT.

File /usr/lib/pymodules/python2.7/usbcreator/install.py, line 215, in
install_bootloader timeout=MAX_DBUS_TIMEOUT)

Is there any way this could be changed to avoid this time out?

[Bug 763774] Re: Twinkle systray notification icon rendered outside panel in unity

2012-07-30 Thread komputes
Hi Jonathan, I would like to object to the decision to remove twinkle
from the archives. Even though it has been 3 years since the last
release, I would like to inform you that this is a solid piece of
software. It is well written and I use it daily. I would ask for a
reconsideration. Could you point me to the reference which states this
program is being removed from Ubuntu archives?

[Bug 1024955] [NEW] Changing volume while parec records monitor causes sound to studder

2012-07-15 Thread komputes
Public bug reported:

Changing volume while parec records monitor causes recorded sound to
stutter (synonyms: lag, jump, skips). This was tested on audio coming
from Firefox/Flash as well as VLC. Both applications produce the same
result.

How to reproduce:
1) Use the following script which finds the monitor pseudo-device and records
its output to a file using sox.

#!/bin/bash
#This script requires sox, if not installed, run sudo apt-get install sox
command first.
# Get PA sink monitor name:
MONITOR=$(pactl list | grep -A2 '^Source #' |  grep 'Name: .*\.monitor$' | awk
'{print $NF}' | tail -n1)
# Record monitor output
echo Recording from $MONITOR
echo Press Ctrl-C or close window to stop recording
parec -d $MONITOR | sox -t raw -r 44100 -sLb 16 -c 2 - ~/output.wav

2) While it is recording, play with the volume controls (top panel
volume/speaker icon) to bring the volume all the way down, and then all
the way up using your mouses scroll wheel or touchpads scroll
functionality.

Result: recorded sound stutter or lags

Expected: monitor device is not linked to output volume therefore sound
should be recorded without interference from regular system use.

Question: Trying to find the cause of the interference is beyond me.
Could this issue be related to sox? If so, could someone recommend or
test this script with a different program?

[Bug 1006575] [NEW] firefox does not remember file browse window size

2012-05-30 Thread komputes
Public bug reported:

Not sure if this is related to Bug #876862 as it is particularly about
the window that shows up when you browse for a file on your computer to
upload.

The size of the browse window is not remembered. I use a 9 inch screen
at a resolution of 1024x600. The browse window is bigger in height than
600px making it that I can't the the buttons Cancel and Open as well
as the file type filter. If I maximize the window it works well, but
then I have to repeat this action every time as firefox does not
remember the size of the window from the last usage.

Would be nice to know how to set it by default. Anyone?

Try the following command to launch the Multimedia Systems Selector:
$ gstreamer-properties

Under the Video Tab, for Default Output select X Windows System
(X11/XShm/Xv). Please let us know if this works.

[Bug 959868] [NEW] Please respect the meaning of the word Eject

2012-03-19 Thread komputes
Public bug reported:

The current wording is incorrect as the term Eject indicates the media
will be thrown out [1] (such as a CD).

= SD CARD =
Unity shows Eject
Nautilus shows Unmount

= USB DISK =
Unity shows Eject and Safely Remove Drive
Nautilus shows Eject and Safely Remove Drive

Neither SD Card or USB Disk devices actuallyEject. What actually happens:
SD - User inserts/clicks the card into reader. After **Unmounting** the card,
the user must pull/click the card out
USB - User inserts the drive into USB socket. After **Safely Removing** the
drive, the user must pull the drive out

[Bug 941229] Re: deadlock: GStreamer-WARNING **: wrong STREAM_LOCK count 0

2012-03-18 Thread komputes
Hey Jacob, I changed the importance to Medium as I am seeing this as
well on all my computers (large range of hardware), and because it is
completely hindering the use of Banshee there are other testers
reporting this as well. I think the bug is hiting a non-critical
application and it seems to have an upstream patch so it should be
simple enough to correct.

** Patch added: deprecated-threads-fix-race-in-GStaticRecMutex.patch

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/glib2.0/+bug/941229/+attachment/2889963/+files/deprecated-threads-fix-race-in-GStaticRecMutex.patch

- deadlock: GStreamer-WARNING **: wrong STREAM_LOCK count 0
+ Scrubbing seek bar causes Banshee, Rhythmbox and Totem to freeze. Error:

hardware and drivers you are using. I will try to assist you.

[Bug 958799] [NEW] nautilus search keeps reverting to first keyword searched

[Bug 958825] [NEW] Ubuntu installation footprint should be below 4GB (optionally)

[Bug 958805] Re: LightDM has issues restarting when xdm is installed

2012-03-18 Thread komputes
** Description changed:

When I run the following command:

  $ sudo service lightdm restart

on a system which has lightdm (installed, in use) and xdm (installed,
not in use), I get an error message in TTY7:

ot starting X display manager (xdm): it is not the default display
  manager

  Expected lightdm to restart.

It's stuck there and I can either reboot at that point or press ctrl-
alt-f1, log in, and run the command again.
+
+ Removing xdm does not resolve the issue, as I get stuck on TTY7, but I
+ no longer see the error.

[Bug 789242] Re: Startup Disk Creator requiring multiple authentications.

2012-03-18 Thread komputes
This still affects me in Precise 12.04 LTS Beta. What bothers me is that
I get two dialogs:

1) Password to erase a disk. Behaviour of formatting the disk is inconsistent
with Disk Utility which does not need a password.
USB creator needs a password for com.ubuntu.usbcreator.format

2) Password for Installing the Bootloader times out and then the
installation fails if I'm not there to put in the password.

The errors you get if you do not enter the password, or cancel are
cryptic to average users (dbus, policykit errors).

[Bug 958952] [NEW] Wording makes it seem that Apport lets you modify essential parts of your system

2012-03-18 Thread komputes
Public bug reported:

When Apport requires root access, the dialog says :

The application 'Apport' lets you modify essential parts of your system
Password: [ ]

What is incorrect is that apport lets you modify your system instead
of root access is needed to access restricted info

Usability wise, many people will say what is apport? We wouldn't want
the answer to be it's a tool that helps you modify essential parts of
your system we would rather say it's a tool that collects information
on your system and reports a bug. Is it possible to to customize the
apport authentication dialog to provide a more human explanation?

I have assigned this bug to the unity package.

Willem, could you please run the following command in a terminal to
upload apport information to this bug (includes release, version
numbers, logs etc.):

$ apport-collect 557104

Once done, you can change the status of the bug back to New.

In the future, you can use this command to report a bug:
$ ubuntu-bug package-name

eg:
$ ubuntu-bug unity

Thank you.

Nicosierra, could you kindly either indicate the release and package version or
simply execute the following command, as it will automatically gather debugging
information, in a terminal:
apport-collect 952293

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-

[Bug 939768] Re: Can't use Ctrl+SPACE to bring up Guake 0.4.2-7 (Precise)

2012-02-23 Thread komputes
This seems to affect Unity 2D as well. When I press SPACE the terminal
comes down. I did some tests to see if the Ctrl key was pressed down
(hardware) and it is not. I also tried selecting some text and pressing
'c' to see if it would copy, it did not. This appeared after installing
yesterday's daily development image, followed by running updates today
and then installing guake.

[Bug 868755] Re: Always starts ro (read-only)

2012-02-09 Thread komputes
Thank you for taking in consideration the usability concern for the
recovery menu in 12.04. I suggest that something along the lines of
Access Recovery Menu be the verbose explanation for the remount/rw
action. I know we're working with limited space here so we may need to
get creative.

Do you know what specific usability changes are proposed for 12.04?

Feel free to re-open this bug if you would like to track this as a
usability bug and not a request to boot directly into the recovery menu.

[Bug 53797] Re: Single/Double clicking inconsistent running KDE apps under Ubuntu

2012-01-28 Thread komputes
Hello Joseph,

It has been some time since this bug has seen any activity. The bug has
not been assigned to a package, so perhaps we can find the correct
package by better understanding what type of configuration files needs
to be provided by the Ubuntu project.

As well, please be sure to test 11.10 and 12.04 Alpha to make sure this
issue is still present in its same form in the latest releases.

[Bug 868803] Re: Can't calibrate webcam or monitor

2011-10-15 Thread komputes
I still can't calibrate webcam or monitor even with argyll gnome-color-
manager.

When changing monitor profiles, the color temperature does not change.

When I try to calibrate my webcam it prompts me to download
shared-color-targets.
The package fails to install as it doesn't exist.
The process fails with the error: Failed to calibrate, failed to match
display.

I have changed the status so that this can be reviewed by John.

The reason for this action is that that this also affect users
presenting on SVGA projectors (800×600 pixels), not to mention a those

Please note that as a workaround, gnome-shell does support 800x600.

3rd party packages. I was able to install google-chrome-stable
14.0.835.202-r103287 deb from the chrome website on Oneiric Beta 2.

[Bug 803917] Re: Do not appear in Startup Applications

2011-10-09 Thread komputes
This seems to affect Ubuntu Oneiric only (compared to previous releases as well
as Fedora 16).
I'm having a hard time explaining how to disable a hidden item for one user in
Startup Applications?

Would it be possible to expand gnome-session-properties to ignore
NoDisplay value:

$ gnome-session-properties --hidden

This would be a much simpler workaround compared to editing multiple
files (that may be written over by an updated package).

[Bug 871492] [NEW] Copy process pauses/interrupts on file conflict

2011-10-09 Thread komputes
Public bug reported:

Copy process pauses/interrupts on file conflict. Ideally we would want all file
conflicts would be managed before the copy starts and not during the copy.

Conflicts would be queued for the user to make a decision, while

[Bug 461058] Re: notify-osd needs a privacy mode

2011-10-08 Thread komputes
Please note that this is not yet fixed in Oneiric's unity.

It has, however, been corrected in gnome-shell (see attachment).
