[Bug 1951491] Re: Can't run snaps: .slice/session-1.scope is not a snap cgroup

2024-05-17 Thread Robbert Korving
So I had this same issue on two machines that are running Ubuntu 22.04.4
LTS Desktop with more or less the same software installed.

I run `sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade -y && sudo apt
autoremove -y && sudo apt autoclean && sudo apt clean && sudo snap
refresh` when I haven't been on any machine for a few days. I execute
that command in the terminal app right after I start my desktop session.

After that command firefox does not start. Slack shows a window for a
brief second and then disappears. After a few re-clicks on the program
in the start menu they both start again. While slack does completely
exit a few times after it started, after 3 to 5 times it recovers and
starts acting like it normally does.

Errors I see related to cgroup:
```
systemd[29657]: app-gnome-gnome\x2dkeyring\x2dsecrets-29897.scope: Couldn't
move process 29897 to requested cgroup
'/user.slice/user-1000.slice/user@1000.service/app.slice/app-gnome-gnome\x2dkeyring\x2dsecrets-29897.scope':
snap-store_ubuntu-software.desktop[36055]:
firefox_firefox.desktop[45624]:
/user.slice/user-1000.slice/user@1000.service/app.slice/app-gnome-slack_slack-60312.scope
 is not a snap cgroup
```

I have a hunch that something is in a wrong state after `sudo snap
refresh` maybe in combination with the updates installed by `sudo apt
full-upgrade`.

Let me know which kind of logs you like me to share.

[Bug 11334] Re: MASTER Copy-Paste doesn't work if the source is closed before the paste

2015-09-12 Thread robbert
Andrei (andrei-doom) on 2015-09-07: #320

Exactly. This is the point I'm always trying to make when talking to
Linux or Ubuntu fanboys. To them it's like the holy grail in operating
systems, but come on... if you can't even implement a proper clipboard.
This problem has always existed. Even years before Ubuntu existed this
bug already existed. Linux has never had a proper clipboard and they
just refuse to fix this. To them it's just the way it was designed and
that's what we have to live with. You don't like it? Well, that's your
problem, because they don't give a shit. This is just fucking insane!
How can these guys even take themselves serious?

No wonder they can't get any market share. Who wants to use such crappy,
buggy, amateurish piece of useless shit? Come on. A clipboard is one of
the core elements of an operating system. This should never fail. It
should just work. You write some text in LibreOffice Writer, you copy
this text and you immediately close the app (because that's a completely
logical thing to do, because you don't need this source app anymore,
because you're going to paste your text somewhere else) and then you
can't paste it anymore, because there isn't anything to paste. You just
copied this piece of text ONE SECOND ago and it's already completely
lost, forever! What the fuck?!?!?! Even a child can understand this is
absolutely ridiculous and this can never be the way you want copy/paste
to work. Still the developers (if you can even call this bunch of
useless amateurs "developers") of Linux and Ubuntu and their blinded
fanboys don't see it as a problem and refuse to fix it... or do they?
Maybe they just don't want to admit their design is flawed and they
don't want to admit they're not competent enough to fix this.

Anyway, just don't use this useless piece of crap. Just use a proper
operating system. Ubuntu and Linux in general suck so hard, even the
best porn star would be jealous. Just use Windows or OS X. Don't use
Ubuntu! Don't use Linux! It's absolute complete crap!

RE: [Bug 1364486] Re: PHP5.5 Crash on certain scripting code

2014-09-04 Thread Robbert
Robie,

Thank you for taking the time to look at my issue. You are right the PHP
bug I mentioned doesn't contain a patch.

The thing is that the required code (that's causing the PHP bug) was
tested with PHP version 5.5.12 and up and with those version it works
just fine. Looking at you remark about minor PHP versions I don't ask
you to update the minor version, but to a newer revision (at least
5.5.12). Looking at the PHP changelog (http://php.net/ChangeLog-5.php)
for versions 5.5.10, 5.5.11 and 5.5.12 I can't see any feature change
that affects backward compatibility. I attached the changelog for your
convenience. Do you agree? If so, can an update to version 5.5.12 make
my day?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

We cannot update 14.04 to the latest PHP version because my
understanding is that they include feature changes in minor version
updates, and this is unacceptable for Ubuntu's stable release users who
expect behaviour to not change during the lifetime of a stable Ubuntu
release. If I'm wrong about this and there's an upstream policy that
says otherwise, please do correct me.

However, we can cherry-pick bugfixes from PHP's stable branch, but I
don't see a reference to any fix in the upstream bug. Please can you
point me to the fix in PHP's stable branch VCS?

For reference, our full rationale, policy and procedure for stable
release updates is here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates

[Bug 890783] Re: git gui shows error Spell checking is unavailable

Just had this problem on 12.04.

I would be nice if an install of git-gui would inform check-language-
support that it needs aspell and the aspel dictionary of your language.

[Bug 874774] Re: could not mount /dev/mapper/cryptswap1

2012-09-17 Thread Robbert Korving
I just installed http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/precise-
updates/main/installer-i386/current//images/netboot/boot.img.gz

and chose home encryption during the command-line installation. I get
the same message could not mount /dev/mapper/cryptswap1 M for manual S
for skip during boot. The only thing I did is sudo tasksel install
lubuntu-desktop.

Now I read here that it's fixed, but I can't see the solution between all the
code.
Can somebody sum up the steps to manually fix this problem?

I'm familiar with sudo and vim and I'm looking for something like.
1. Use sudo command --options
2. Open /etc/file-that-should-be-changed and change remove-bug=false to
remove-bug=true

It would help me and also the next person who googles this problem.
Thank you!

[Bug 948812] [NEW] Brightness control works, but stutters for ASUS K40IN

2012-03-07 Thread Robbert Kooiman
Public bug reported:

When i raise or lower my screen brightness on my ASUS K40IN laptop, it
seems that there are two kinds of brightness control. It's hard to
explain, so if you do not understand it yet, here is my explanation from
my question in the forums
(https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/189813):

I think my laptop (ASUS K40IN) has built in brightness control over any
OS. When I press Fn + F6 (Increase brightness) The brightness first
increases a bit and in a fraction of a second lowers a little after
that. This might be confusing, so I'll try to explain it in percentages.

For instance:

My brightness level is 0
I press Fn + F6
ASUS sets it to 0+20 = 20
Ubuntu sets it to 0+12,5 = 12,5
I press Fn + F6 again
ASUS sets it to 12,5+20 = 32,5
ubuntu sets it to 12,5+12,5 = 25

And so on and on. (This is also true for lowering the brightness)

So I can adjust my brightness, but it stutters a lot. I would like to
disable the ubuntu brightness adjustment, so only the standard built-in
adjustment remains. How do I do this?

Im using ubuntu 11.10
I wasn't able to find the package name N: Unable to locate package pkgname

[Bug 865885] Re: implement proper clipboard in wayland

2011-10-04 Thread robbert
Users of this crappy operating system have been annoyed by this bug
since... well, actually since the first release. After all those years
they failed (actually refused) to implement a proper clipboard. I've
lost all hopes. I don't think Ubuntu or Linux in general will ever get a
proper clipboard. The developers are just stupid and keep on sticking to
their old fashioned habits of the early '90s. They don't listen to the
users and only want to keep on using Linux the old fashioned way. They
don't want a proper clipboard, so a proper clipboard will never be
implemented in Ubuntu of Linux in general.

That's exactly the reason why Linux will NEVER get more than 1% of
market share. The market share of Linux is at 1% for years now. In all
those years its market share didn't grow a single bit. Mac OS X keeps on
growing. Why? Because their products just work. People use it and see it
just works and they keep on using it and recommend it to family and
friends who also keep on using it.

Linux is also recommended by Linux users, but after using it for a few
weeks or a few months, everyone realizes it's just crap. Within a few
months most users have encountered so many bugs they won't use it
anymore. When you first install Ubuntu or any other distribution you
think: Yeah, this is actually quite good. but that feeling doesn't
last for long. Within two months you get so annoyed of all those bugs,
you just want to throw your computer out of the window.

Linux will never be a mature operating system and it will never get more
than 1% market share. At least, not as long as those developers refuse
to implement even the most basic features an operating system should
contain. Unless they get their head of their asses Linux will stay an
amateuristic operating system for ever.

[Bug 11334] Re: MASTER Copy-Paste doesn't work if the source is closed before the paste

2011-10-04 Thread robbert
For everyone who wants this bug to be fixed in this crappy, amateuristic
operating system: It will never happen.

The only way to solve is this problem: Buy a Mac or install Windows.

I'm confident a big number of people who subscribed to this bug of
clicked Affects me too have already solved this problem by just not
using Linux anymore. Most people who try Linux, uninstall it again
within a few months, because they get so annoyed by all those bugs.

Of course not. In the Linux world bugs it's common to not fix bugs. Just

[Bug 778926] Re: Launcher placement on dual monitor setup with primary monitor on the right

2011-06-21 Thread Robbert Brak
How about being able to move the Ubuntu button to the right as well? As
far as I can see there is no specific need for it to be on the left.

As for you can move mouse to the top left corner of the primary monitor
to un-hide the launcher: this is true, but it requires VERY precise
mouse handling. The cursor needs to be at the EXACT left top corner of
the primary monitor. One pixel more to the left and the mouse is on the
secondary monitor (and the launcher does not show itself), one pixel
more to the right and the launcher is only partially shown, disappearing
as soon as you try to click on an item in the launcher. So this is a
rather user-unfriendly workaround.

[Bug 532633] Re: [light-theme] please revert the order of the window controls back to menu:minimize, maximize, close

2010-03-18 Thread robbert
Can people please stop complaining about the window controls being on
the left side? Windows has them on the right side, but it’s completely
illogical to have them on the right side. The GUI of Windows is
completely illogical and causes it’s users to get RSI, because of all
the mouse movement when working in Windows.

To start an application, you’ve got to go to the lower left corner of
the screen to click on the Start button. Then you want to do some tasks
in this application, so you’ve got to go to the upper left corner to get
to the File menu, the Edit menu or the icons on the toolbar. Then you
want to close the application and you’ve got to go to the upper right
corner to click on the X. Then you want to start another application and
you’ve got to go all the way back to the lower left corner.

This is completely illogical and causes RSI, because of all the mouse
movement. Apple already figured out it’s better to have the window
controls on the left, because everything else is on the left (menu bar
starts from the left, icons on the tool bar start on the left and tabs
on a tab bar start from the left). Gnome already figured out it’s better
to have the Applications menu on the top of the screen, because
everything else is on the top of the screen (menu bar, tool bar and tab
bar are all on the top of the screen, so applications are more quickly
accessable when they’re on the top too).

Moving the window controls to the left is the best decision Canonical
ever made. The applications are on the upper left corner, the menu bars,
the tool bars and the tab bars are all on the top of the screen and most
of the time only the left part of these bars are filed with menu items,
icons and tabs (especially since resolutions of computer screens are
getting higher and higher). Most of the clicks are being done in the
upper left area of the screen, so it’s completely obvious to have the
window controls in this area too.

Even before the first screens of this new button layout appeared I
already made the change myself. I’m running Ubuntu with the window
controls on the left for more than a year now and mouse movement has
been reduced. Now everything is just in one place (the upper left area
of the screen). Before I moved the window controls to the left side, I
was constantly moving my mouse from the left side to the right side of
the screen when opening and closing applications. Completely illogical.
The left side is definately the right place for window controls.

[Bug 90729] Re: Disk Mounter can't unmount fuseiso mounts [Feisty, Hardy]

2009-03-05 Thread Robbert
* Install fuseiso (sudo apt-get install fuseiso)
* Create a mountpoint (mkdir ~/cdrom)
* Mount an iso (fuseiso myiso.iso ~/cdrom)
* Go to Nautilus, set your sidebar to Tree, right click on the 'cdrom' you have
just mounted, press unmount and you get the error above.

Using unmount in the gnome disk mounter applet does not give any errors
in Intrepid, but doesn't unmount either.

I'm using Ubuntu Intrepid on an AMD64.

[Bug 178247] NFS mounts doesn't work well

I'm using the crossmnt option on my server (Debian), so I don't have to add 10

[Bug 13199] Re: Drag n' Drop directories from File-Roller is somewhat tricky

2007-09-10 Thread Robbert
The problem that dnd to a nfs mount doesn't work have to do with the
following issue: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=475296 and
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/file-roller/+bug/138486

Because file-roller threats nfs mounts as remote and shouldn't do that
because nfs mounts are transparent. I have attached the patch for that
issue.

I build nautilus (2.19.91 on Gutsy x86_64) with the patch and it seems

charm, also to other nautilus windows.

But it doesn't work while dragging them to a nfs mount or an other
remote location (for example ssh). It says Cannot extract archives in a
remote folder foldername. But i can extract them to a remote
location with the extract button in file-roller.

[Bug 138486] File-roller is threating a nfs mount like a remote filesystem

2007-09-09 Thread Robbert
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: file-roller

When opening files on a nfs mount the files are getting copied to my
homedir (~/.fr-[randomhash]). This problem exists since the the ability
to open files on gnome-vfs was introduced.

It looks like that copying the archive to homedir is necessary for files on for
example a ssh remote location since unrar, unzip etc doesn't support files on a
ssh remote location. But file-roller is threating files on a nfs mount exactly
the same way, what is rather unnecessary. Because it takes a lot of time before
a big archive is opened.

Extracting is really slow this way, since the file have to be copied to my home
folder, get extracted and copied back.

[Bug 138486] Re: File-roller is threating a nfs mount like a remote filesystem

2007-09-09 Thread Robbert
I found out that the problem is in the following piece of code (file-
utils.c line 1253):

gboolean
uri_is_local (const char *uri)
{
GnomeVFSURI *vfs_uri;
gboolean is_local;

vfs_uri = new_uri_from_path (uri);
g_return_val_if_fail (vfs_uri != NULL, FALSE);

is_local = gnome_vfs_uri_is_local (vfs_uri);
gnome_vfs_uri_unref (vfs_uri);

return is_local;
}

gnome_vfs_uri_is_local says that a nfs url isn't local, what means that
file-roller is threating it as a non local file. But file-roller should
threat it as a local file, since nfs is mounted transparently.

This means we have to add another check or it is a nfs mount, and then
return true. I'm not really into gnome_vfs what means that I don't know
to well which function i should use for that.

[Bug 138486] Re: File-roller is threating a nfs mount like a remote filesystem

2007-09-09 Thread Robbert
Well, i made the following change:
is_local = strcmp(gnome_vfs_uri_get_scheme (vfs_uri), file) == 0;
Instead of using gnome_vfs_uri_is_local I check whether the scheme is equal to
file. If the schema is file, the file could be transparently accessed by the
filesystem so we could threat it like a local file.

I've included a patch.

I've found a way to work around this issue which is more the Debian way:
* Download make-vmpkg from the Debian unstable repositories.
(http://packages.debian.org/unstable/misc/vmware-package)
* Download vmware-any-any (http://knihovny.cvut.cz/ftp/pub/vmware/)
* Create a kernel source package from the any-any tar.gz with make-vmpkg
(make-vmpkg [name of the tar.gz file you've downloaded].tar.gz)
* Install the source package (sudo dpkg -i [name of generated deb file].deb)
* Create a kernel binary package with module-assistant (sudo m-a auto-install
vmware-any-any-kernel /usr/src/modules)

No thanks ;). I'm running Ubuntu Feisty.

The only way to unmount it is: fusermount -u /path/to/mountpoint
