[Bug 1874886] [NEW] Ubuntu 20.04 I cannot set different default application for .zip and .mcsz files

2020-04-24 Thread Vijay
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 20.04 I cannot set different default application for .zip and
.mcsz files

I right click a .zip file in Nautilus, go to "Properties" and choose
Archive Manager, but now the OS will try to open all my .mcsz files with
Archive Manager. I right click a .mcsz file and select MuseScore, now
all .zip files open in MuseScore (error).

I would ideally like to open .zip files with Archive Manager and .mcsz
files with MuseScore by default. Is this fixable or a bug?

Thank you,
Vijay

[Bug 1313513] Re: mountall does not honour _netdev

2017-01-27 Thread vijay
In ubuntu 14.05.5 I am running into the same issue. I have a iscsi
device added in fstab with _netdev switch but doesnt' seem to work.
system just hangs at boot, i have to go into recovery mode to comment
out the filesystem to get the system to boot.

Interested in what others have done as a work around ? appreciate
inputs.

Thanks,
Vj

[Bug 1220146] Re: Need support for new Ralink Wifi card - Mediatek 7630 [14c3:7630]

2014-01-15 Thread Vijay
I've been stuck with the same problem for several days now. The make
file for the MT7610U v 3.0.0.2 driver downloaded from the mediatek site
lists MT7630E as one of the supported devices. However the source
compiles to a file named mt7650u_sta.ko Loading this driver using
modprobe does not seem to do anything.

D/L link for the driver
http://www.mediatek.com/_en/07_downloads/01_windows.php?sn=501

Can anybody help with this?

Thanks

Vijay

Re: [Bug 1042069] Re: Jumpy Mouse Cursor using Thinkpad X230 Touchpad

2012-10-18 Thread Vijay Ravikumar
Yes, thank you! It worked beautifully for me too (I stuck with the 32 and
just increased the cursor speed slightly under system settings).

On Thu, Oct 18, 2012 at 8:44 AM, Ilya Schurov i...@schurov.com wrote:

Thanks, Andy! Seems to work fine. I had to use 256 as VelocityScale
(with 32 it's too slow for me), and it makes synaptiks unusable, but
 everything else is fine.

[Bug 959591] [NEW] Sound is lost when trying to fix Mic

2012-03-19 Thread Vijay SA
Public bug reported:

For many days, the microphone in my laptop was not working. When i
connect USB webcams which has Mic inbuilt in them, that Mic worked
without drivers. But onboard Mic on my laptop never worked.

Later i found that it is not working in Windows vista too. So at that
point i concluded it is an hardware issue. But before doing that itself,
i was wrongly assuming it was an issue of Ubuntu(10.04) and was randomly
checking the net to find a solution.

Then i landed on this site - http://10xforce.blogspot.in/2007/06/ubuntu-
microphone-problems-and.html

and did whatever mentioned there, to find in last that i totally lost
the audio in my laptop! Only after that i read the comments in the blog
and found one more guy posted same issue!!! Without reading that, i went
ahead with the instructions on that blog and now lost my audio :(((

Kindly help me sort this issue :)

[Bug 783582] Re: [Aspire 3830TG, Conexant ID 506c, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all

2011-09-24 Thread Kris Vijay
--SPEAKER MIC FIXED WITH KERNEL 2.6.38-11
-

The issue appears to have been fixed with the new kernel update. mic
appear to be working ok

So here is the scoop. I have a Acer 4830t was having no sound issue.
So I followed Markus's (#86) advise (thanks btw). I got the speaker to
work but had some issue with crackling/cracking sound while using
internal mic.

I recently upgraded from kernel 2.6.38-8 to 2.6.38-11. I decided to
check if the alsa modules had any patches applied -- so I uninstalled
alsa-hda-dkms-acer3830tg_0.1_all.deb ran depmod rebooted. Viola --
speaker, headphone jack work.

Further the internal mic seems to work without crackling/cracking sound

(FYI my
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf has
#options snd-hda-intel model=acer
options snd-hda-intel model=targa-2ch-dig -- not sure if its needed)

[Bug 790538] Re: pam update causes cron to stop working with Module is unknown error

2011-05-31 Thread Vijay Krishna Ramesh
Colin, that seems like a horrible solution - you now have everybody's
apt claiming they need to get a package that 404s, causing apt-get
upgrade to fail. I understand a buggy package was released, but once
that has been done, you can't just remove the package itself (while
leaving reference to it as here's the latest version of libpam)...

if a fixed version isn't quickly on the way, if nothing else you should
release 1.1.1-2ubuntu2 as 1.1.1-2ubuntu5.3 or whatever, so that people
who have already installed 1.1.1-2ubuntu5.2 can upgrade to a working
version, and people with 1.1.1-2ubuntu2 aren't prompted to install
1.1.1-2ubuntu5.2 that doesn't exist...

i'll add the caveat that i'm not intimately familiar with the release
process for ubuntu, but it seems that once a release is publicly
accessible, you can't just rollback - you have to move forward to keep
in line with every possible path (in this case, people who already
installed the buggy 1.1.1-2ubuntu5.2 and people with 1.1.1-2ubuntu2 who
are now being prompted to upgrade to 1.1.1-2ubuntu5.2).

[Bug 773582] Re: Windows blank to white after being resized larger

2011-05-01 Thread vijay
I have seen the white-out-on-Increase-size in many apps, including
Banshee, Movie player (Could not go full-screen), and Firefox.

I saw an Internet board posting that said this works if you revert to Version
173 of the Nvidia (Additional Driver).
(Needs reboot).
I have done that, and so far so good - Window resizing seems to be working!

[Bug 123755] Re: pstats module missing in python 2.4 and 2.5

2011-01-06 Thread Vijay Krishna Ramesh
Copying a response from the Debian mailing list linked above that
includes an email from James Roskind, the original author. The basic
problem is that the profiler module restricts copying altering the
code to work done in python or for a python module - as such, it is too
restrictive to fit into Debian's (and thus Ubuntu's) standard repos.
Unfortunately, the company who owned the copyright has since been bought
by Disney then dissolved, so it isn't likely that anybody with the
authority to update the license will be found. Really, the best bet -
other than just notifying users that they'll need to find this package
elsewhere (such as the multiverse repo) - would be to rewrite the
library from scratch. It doesn't seem like that complicated of a task,
but at the end of the day, whether it is worth it or not is a different
question.

Anyhow, cutting pasting the post from the Debian list, including
Roskind's response:

I contacted Jim. His response follows:

I'm a strong supporter of Opensource software, but I'm probably not
going to be able to help you very much. I could be much more helpful
with understanding the code or its use ;-).

To summarize what I'll say: I don't own the rights to this stuff. ...
but I don't believe there are any patents that I was ever involved
with that might encumber this work.

I would note that my profiler code is really very rarely used in
commercial products, and it is much more typically used by developers
(I guess a developer toolkit, if sold, would use it). I'm pretty
delighted that the code has found so much use by developers over the
years. As I noted in the intro to the documentation, I had only been
coding in Python for 3 weeks when I wrote it. On the positive side,
it exposed many weaknesses in many developer's code (including our own
at InfoSeek), as well as in core Python code (subtle bugs in the
interpreter) that surely helped everyone. Even though I was a newbie,
It was VERY carefully crafted,, and I'd expect that it would take a
fair amount of effort to reproduce it (and that is is probably why it
has not been changed much... or at least no one told me when they
changed/fixed it ;-) ).

With regard to why I probably can't help much.

First off, InfoSeek (holder of the copyright) was bought by Disney,
and I don't know what if anything has eventually become of the
tradename. There is a chance that Disney owns the rights... and I
have no idea who to ask there :-/.

Second, I took a look at the Copyright, and it sure seems pretty
permissive. I'm amazed if folks want something more permissive.
This is what I found on the web for it:

Copyright © 1994, by InfoSeek Corporation, all rights reserved.

SPECIAL, INDIRECT OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES OR ANY DAMAGES WHATSOEVER
RESULTING FROM LOSS OF USE, DATA OR PROFITS, WHETHER IN AN ACTION OF
CONTRACT, NEGLIGENCE OR OTHER TORTIOUS ACTION, ARISING OUT OF OR IN
CONNECTION WITH THE USE OR PERFORMANCE OF THIS SOFTWARE.

As I recall, I probably personally created the terms of the above
license. I used a similar license on my C/C++ grammar, and Infoseek
just added a bunch of wording to be sure that they were not at risk,
and that their name would not be used in vain (or in advertising
material). I think they were also interested in limiting its use to
Python but I

[Bug 566631] Re: Mouse and keyboard stop working after selecting user [LUCID]

2010-05-13 Thread vijay
I have the same problem too. nvidia geforce2 MX400 card. Problem
persists with both noveau and nvidia binary 96 driver. Reinstalling
driver does not help. using the system by going through safe mode and
booting into low graphics mode. this way it does not freeze, but poor
screen resolution.

Please help.

[Bug 141445] Re: Internal microphone not working on intel-hda (Realtek ALC262) in gutsy (and intrepid and ...)

2009-12-18 Thread Vijay
Its working now :) Thanks TundraMan and shadowfoxx.

In my Lenovo-300 Y410, I had to set Node [0x19] Pin VREF to 50 to make
the microphone to work. Also, I kept Val[0] and Val[1] to '0' to reduce
noise. I'm happy that I need not reboot to windows just to make skype
and gtalk calls.

[Bug 141445] Re: Internal microphone not working on intel-hda (Realtek ALC262) in gutsy (and intrepid and ...)

2009-12-17 Thread Vijay
Hi TundraMan,

I tried your method of my Lenovo-3000 y410 running Ubuntu 9.10, but it
did not work. All that Skype records is a lot of noise from microphone.
Am I missing something? Do I need to reboot the machine for changes to
take effect or something? Also, the python scripts you used are stored
in /dev/shm which will be erased on reboot, is that fine?

Vijay
