I also noticed on July 3rd thereabouts, was a change for 'lz4', that was
approved.
 Not sure if I had this error then. I just started noticing around July 7th.

[Bug 1835660] [NEW] initramfs unpacking failed

2019-07-07 Thread vmc
Public bug reported:

"initramfs unpacking failed: Decoding failed", message appears on boot
up.

If I "update-initramfs" using gzip instead of lz, then boot up passes
without decoding failed message.

2019-06-20 Thread vmc
I found out it only occurs using Kubuntu 19.10 and ubiquity version
19.10.5, which it now uses.

The current Ubuntu 19.10 still uses ubiquity 19.10.3 and it installs
correctly

exec startlxqt
===.bash_profile:===
#
# ~/.bash_profile

if [[ -z $DISPLAY ]] && [[ $(tty) = /dev/tty1 ]]; then
exec startx -- vt1 &> /dev/null
fi
===getty===
sudo systemctl edit getty@tty1
add the following text:
[Service]
ExecStart=
ExecStart=-/sbin/agetty --skip-login --noissue -a vmc %I $TERM

To verify that getty is correct:
cat /etc/systemd/system/getty@tty1.service.d/override.conf

This happened on lubuntu dated, 10/14/18, 12:33 AM. Not sure if there
has been an update since then, and this only happened on this dated ISO.
All the previous ISO's were fine.

I installed exactly as I always have, following Calamares lead all the way to
the end.
I'll try again soon, and let you know the results.

I noticed that after installing, my home/.config had some files with
ROOT access only. Once changed back to my user and group, then the
desktop wallpaper settings were honored again.

The PCManFM settings keep getting reset. If I change ".config/pcmanfm-
qt/default/settings.conf" to reflect what settings I want, it keeps
resetting, even after I close the file manager and reopen.

[Bug 1788068] Re: lubuntu cosmic lxqt-panel world clock truncated in 12-hr format

2018-09-06 Thread vmc
Here's how you can reproduce it:
(1) Remove or disable sddm
(2) Install getty autologin: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/getty
(3) Reboot.

Here's my files to allow getty-auto-login:

===.xinitrc:===

[[ -f ~/.Xresources ]] && xrdb -merge -I$HOME ~/.Xresources
exec startlxqt

===.bash_profile:===

#
# ~/.bash_profile
#
[[ -f ~/.bashrc ]] && . ~/.bashrc
if [[ -z $DISPLAY ]] && [[ $(tty) = /dev/tty1 ]]; then
exec startx -- vt1 &> /dev/null
fi

===getty===

sudo systemctl edit getty@tty1
add the following text:
[Service]
ExecStart=
ExecStart=-/sbin/agetty --skip-login --noissue -a  %I $TERM

===then cat to make sure its correct===
cat /etc/systemd/system/getty@tty1.service.d/override.conf

This work in EVERY LXQT except Lubuntu (manjaro, Sparky)
It works with Xubuntu also.

2018-08-11 Thread vmc
I've went through every thing. Removed everything I normally removed,
installed chrome, removed sddm and installed systemd autologin.

No SWAP errors whatsoever. This was installed from today's ISO. There
was about 80% needed from zsync.

So either it was fixed from a previous updated file or initramfs was run
correctly. After removing sever packages initramfs was run and the swap
along with the uuid was mentioned. No error was reported.

[Bug 1785450] Re: lubuntu Job swap.target failed with result 'dependency'

2018-08-11 Thread vmc
It occured to me that I do house cleaning before I check the swap error.
Today I decided to instead boot from lubuntu's grub menu then check.
Here's the results:

vmc@vmc-pc:~$ journalctl|egrep "timed|swap"
Aug 11 07:38:33 vmc-pc kernel: zswap: loaded using pool lzo/zbud
Aug 11 07:38:38 vmc-pc systemd[1]: Activating swap
/dev/disk/by-uuid/39f23cab-3322-438e-becd-56e468346656...
Aug 11 07:38:38 vmc-pc kernel: Adding 2047996k swap on /dev/sda5.  Priority:-2
extents:1 across:2047996k FS
Aug 11 07:38:38 vmc-pc systemd[1]: Activated swap
/dev/disk/by-uuid/39f23cab-3322-438e-becd-56e468346656.

No error. Its either fixed or something I do afterward that effects the
swap. There's a lot of programs I remove and grub maintenance that might
affect swap. I'll swap on boot after each step, and see if I can narrow
down exactly where swap error occurs.

[Bug 1785450] Re: lubuntu Job swap.target failed with result 'dependency'

2018-08-07 Thread vmc
I found out that if I slow down the boot process by using ctrl-s, swap
appears to pass:

Aug 07 06:13:02 vmc-pc kernel: zswap: loaded using pool lzo/zbud
Aug 07 06:13:07 vmc-pc kernel: Adding 2047996k swap on /dev/sda5.  Priority:-2
extents:1 across:2047996k FS
Aug 07 06:13:07 vmc-pc systemd[1]: Activating swap

/dev/disk/by-uuid/39f23cab-3322-438e-becd-56e468346656.

It appears to be a "race" condition. somewhere it test for swap before
it should have. If I leave the boot to run normally, it fails.

I found also the following journal messages relating to SWAP:

I'm not sure why its reporting SWAP partition timed out, when several
other distros use the same SWAP without 'timed out' messages.

[Bug 1784198] [NEW] lubuntu bash preferences too big

2018-07-28 Thread vmc
Public bug reported:

lubuntu 18.10
LXQt version 0.13.0

When I open bash and select Preferences. The Terminal Settings is much
taller than the screen size. I can't see the OK-Cancel-Apply buttons. I
need to use the mouse from the top of screen and reduce the size
manually.

I expect the settings size to be within the parameters so the bottom of
the settings screen show.

See attachment.

Just to add, my error is on MBR, and lubuntu is actually installed. The
error occurs right at the end, apparently cleaning up after itself.
