Hi warren, Thanks for your help to make Ubuntu better by reporting these observations. To be honest, I don't quite understand how it's a bug, though. Are you suggesting that there were no missing language support files, so there was no reason for the Incomplete Language Support dialog to appear? Please note that it doesn't talk about other languages, but merely about dictionary for spell checking etc. ** Changed in: language-selector (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1063402 Title: Ubuntu 12.04.1 i386 testing Alternate install after initial login the Incomplete Language Support dialog box appears. Gunnar I found the Incomplete Language Support dialog after install to be annoying that is one reason I filed the bug report. To the best of my knowledge I am suggesting that there were no missing language support files so there was no reason for the Incomplete Language Support dialog to appear. What test or check can be performed to verify the validity of my bug report? Thanks for your reply, Warren. What test or check can be performed to verify the validity of my bug report? I'm afraid I'm not able to tell. It's my understanding that everything belonging to the selected install language is not always automatically installed, which is the reason why the check takes place afterwards. I don't think there is anything abnormal with that dialog appearing. @Martin Can you possibly shed some light on this? ** Changed in: language-selector (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1063402 Title: Ubuntu 12.04.1 i386 testing Alternate install after initial login the Incomplete Language Support dialog box appears. [Bug 1063402] Re: Ubuntu 12.04.1 i386 testing Alternate install after initial login the Incomplete Language Support dialog box appears.
Did you install with or without a network connection? In the former case the missing language support packages should be downloaded during installation, in the latter case this dialog box should pop up and allow you to install them. If you accept, you will see the packages that are missing. Note that this isn't just translations. Language support also means dictionaries/spell checkers, some extra fonts and input support for some languages, the LibO help, and so on. There are not that many extra packages for English, but some exist. ** Changed in: language-selector (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1063402 Title: Ubuntu 12.04.1 i386 testing Alternate install after initial login the Incomplete Language Support dialog box appears. [Bug 1063402] Re: Ubuntu 12.04.1 i386 testing Alternate install after initial login the Incomplete Language Support dialog box appears.
I don't think I can't add anything insightful here, but I experienced this in my first login after installing Ubuntu 12.04.1 i386 with the alternate-installer CD image. During the install, I'd selected English as my language as well as a US English keyboard (the default choice). Clicking on the Run this action now on the popup dialog (same one that warren submitted), pulled up the Language Support dialog, in which English (United States) and English were both available.Further, the Install / Remove Languages... dialog had English indicated as installed -- so there did not appear to be meaningful changes to make as I wasn't interested in other languages. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1063402 Title: Ubuntu 12.04.1 i386 testing Alternate install after initial login the Incomplete Language Support dialog box appears.
