This is not a standard Google Talk account and so is not a duplicate bug. Google talk service works fine for my standard gmail accounts, but this is Google Talk for my domain http://www.google.com/apps/. I've confirmed that it's not a setting on Google's side as I can connect to it perfectly with Pidgin. I can import that account from Pidgin to Empathy and I get the same error.
