Kyle...can you give me a clue on what you are doing

I have a

I have the latest serial monkey driver from the daily CVS and it still

It worked! :D

I used wpa2 with aes, truncated the key to 20 characters and it sprang
to life. Although with this method I have to use the key i inputed into
the router directly instead of using wpa_passphrase ssid key to
generate a code to use in the interfaces file.

Thanks very much. I look forward to someone actually fixing the entire
thing.

2007-12-25 Thread hendrikwout
I also have a D-link DWL-G122 C1 usb pen. The rt73usb.ko module doesn't
work for me at all, even when no encryption is used (I had a very
unstable connection ones with a lot of messages in dmesg and I had to be
really close to the access point). I switched to the driver rt73.ko from
the ralink site. That worked, but as mentionned above, it does work with
NetworkManager and I have to configure by command line. So every time I
put my laptop in standby and resume it, I have to reestablish connection
by hand. :(

I've tried also the windows driver through ndiswrapper. That worked also
, but not with the NetworkManager again.

[Bug 95889] Re: rt73 wifi not working out of box

I CAN CONFIRM THIS, same issue since dapper
Same problem here with my Belkin F5d7050-4 rev 3002:
Bus 004 Device 003: ID 050d:705a Belkin Components
I think it is a driver conflict:
Does not associate!
creates wlan0/wmaster0 and refuses to connect/associate but is able to scan,
serialmonkey drivers work fine only for wep, something was changed in the
kernel that crashes wpa connections...
This is a tough card, there are four known verions of this card.
802.11g F5D7050 v.1 Prism54
802.11g F5D7050 v.2 rt2x00
802.11g F5D7050 v.3 man: 050d dev: 705a rt2x00 --- my

802.11g F5D7050 v. 4001 ?
?
802.11g F5D7050 v.4 man: 050d dev: 705c ZD1211

As you can see by the table there is only 2 known device ids. However v. 2
is still believed to use the ralink chipset which is support under PCLinuxOS
2007. Version 4001of this card is unknown and the v. 4 uses the ZD1211
chipset which is also support under PCLinuxOS 2007. If you haven't purchased
this card yet but want to. Take extnreme caution in making sure there's a
decent return policy at the store. As by looking at the box you may not know
what version you will be stuck with.

[Bug 95889] Re: rt73 wifi not working out of box

2007-10-17 Thread warsocket
I would still prefer that they just pick the driver (with source) form the
ralink site.
That driver just works, the only problem is that it shows up as a wired nic in
network manager and you have to configure the ssid and key in a text file
/etc/Wireless/RT73STA/rt73sta.dat

and that you can only scan with iwpriv rausb0 get_site_survey

So driver work fine but just not compatibe with nm and standard scanning
methods.

But in my opinion that's still better then the rt2x00 driver wich
intergrates in nm and allows scans but just cannot connect you to the
wireless network.

In my eyes is
nicely integrated but not working VS partially integrated and functional.
and then I (and i think a lot of people) would prefer functional over not
working, even if its less integrated.

I can confirm this bug in the release of Feisty. I have a D-Link G122

like when I type in my username and password the key gets 'stuck' and
will repeat the input with the stuck key until you press backspace.

The solution I have used is based on the Wiki link on
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=375848, which asks me to
blacklist both rt73usb (the next one that gets loaded after you
blacklist rt2570) and rt2570. rt73usb IS NOT able to connect to my WPA
network and says the security on the network is not supported, although
it works on Windows XP (just to show the wifi adapter is WPA capable).

After compiling rt73 and loading it, the Network Manager does not show
any Wireless networks. I am able to get it to connect to my AP through
entries in /etc/network/interfaces.

I am able to see the interfaces in iwconfig and ifconfig after I load
the rt73 module.

Hope this helps.
