Re: Science (Universe) gdal-bin missing EVHR / ITT ENVI binary format [RESOLVED]
This is resolved: The ENVI format is covered as one standard under 'RAW' formats. 'gdal-config --formats' just does not indicate the availability of this format as there are several formats lumped together under the banner of 'RAW'. I guess I should have just tried it before I blurted... Thanks, Peter Peter Willis wrote: Hello, The gdal-bin package for ubuntu 9.04 (and possibly 9.10 ??) appears to be missing the RSI/ITT ENVI file format capability. The package is labeled as being maintained by people on this list. My apologies If I am in error regarding the maintainers. If this *is* the location to contact the maintainers: This format should be added and included by default in any future updates of the package since it is one of the most widely used binary scientific data formats. In the mean time, what are the gdal build parameters used when compiling gdal for the package build? I would like to compile the package for my own use, adding the ENVI format to my build. If there is an updated package that contains this additional format that would be even better. [Lucid] Updating Open-motif to 2.3.2 in multiverse?
open-motif currently in multiverse is pretty dated and stuck at version 2.2.3. Open-motif is now at version 2.3.2 and has been out for a very long time (since around march 09). Many corporate home users are having to package 2.3.2 on their own or have it packaged for them to use clients such as Citrix reciever. The pain can also be seen on Ubuntu form posts such as this one: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1105855 More info on open motif: http://www.motifzone.net/ If this can be updated for Lucid LTS it would be a big help to many users. Though not sure who to talk with about getting it updated, so apologies if this has gone out to the wrong list. Hi Jerone, Jerone Young escribió: open-motif currently in multiverse is pretty dated and stuck at version 2.2.3. Ubuntu is shipping the package from Debian, and open-motif has been orphaned there, since 2006, so nobody is taking care of this package, right now (you can see http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=379258). This explain why we (Ubuntu and Debian) are shipping an old version. If this can be updated for Lucid LTS it would be a big help to many users. Though not sure who to talk with about getting it updated, so The best way for that to happen is that somebody adopt this package in Debian, rather than packaging it in Ubuntu. Do you volunteer? :-) Cheers, Fabrice -- Ubuntu-motu mailing list Ubuntu-motu@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-motu
MOTU documentation for beginners
Dear Sirs, I hope you are doing fine in the new year. I would like to share my concerns about the documentation material available for packaging software for ubuntu. I am an ubuntu user since June, 2007. As I am as computer engineering student, I deal with packages of programming languages libraries frequently. Unfortunately, most of the packages available in ubuntu repositories are outdated. I know that I am using unpopular libraries and projects, and the repositories contains most of the time stable releases. I am not blaming MOTU, as this is not the place as I can file bugs against the packages I want to be updated in launchpad. As I am obessesed with ubuntu and its community efforts, I would like to participate in. I remember that there is no 3 months go without trying to package some software and add it to my personal PPA. Every time I try to do so, I face a problem reading long detailed documents and it is always failing when it comes to signing the packages. Even with the support available in the MOTU IRC channel I could not manage it correctly for once !. My problem that the documentation available for the packaging procedure is long and detailed and it is more like guideleines and policies to do MOTU standard packaging. Even with the help of the videos, there are still a lot of details addressing licensing and manauals and packaging quality topics. As a beginner, I am more concerned with doing packaging correctly first, then getting the advantage of distributing the packages I make with my other machines or friends secondly. I believe that after knowing how to package, packaging professionaly would be a matter of following the guidelines. I would like to see the MOTU tutorials more friendly and contains a section for getting it done even in poor quality for the beginners and separate documents for the people who are planning to participate in MOTU efforts. Increasing the size of the people who know how to package and use launchpad for distributing their software personally will defintely increase the size of the MOTU team on the long run.
