[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 577906] Re: No login screen at startup

2010-05-11 Thread wetneb
The segfault only happens when I run X -configure to create another xorg.conf
file. But I don't need to run this command anymore since the xorg.conf seems
good now.
The problem I have right now is that when I start the computer, GDM doesn't
show up even after a few minutes.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 574449] Re: random flickers on ubuntu lucid desktop

2010-05-11 Thread Saurav
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  Ubuntu release: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
  Edition: Desktop
  Architecture: i386

Expected behaviour: Steady desktop with no flickering during entire
  session.

  Actual behaviour: -
On the platform mentioned above, I experience random flickers on the desktop.
The flickering does not occur frequently (time interval of several minutes or
sometimes hours between two consecutive occurrences). The flickering has not
caused any problems till now apart from the visual interference and it occurs
at any time, not just when any particular windowed application is running. I
could not find any means of forcing a flicker to reproduce the problem manually
and since a flicker lasts only for a fraction of a second and is random, I
cannot get a screenshot. From what glimpses I have been able to catch on one or
two occasions, the flickers actually appear to be highly distorted snapshots of
parts of currently or previously open windows stretching across the whole
desktop for a fraction of a second and a few pixels high. However, because of
the instantaneous disappearance, I am not sure that they are actually ghosts of
windows. Sometimes it is so quick that all I can see is a line or a bar. Also,
because of the nature of the problem, I cannot determine its source. It might
be xorg, kernel (maybe KMS), GNOME, Metacity, Compiz, Nautilus or something
else altogether. My hardware and relevant software specifications are provided
below. I am booting with KMS enabled.
  Notes: -
  1. Searching the bug database, I only found bug #493707 somewhat similar but
the two do not appear to be the same and there are no blue dots in my case.
  2. I have come back to Ubuntu with GNOME after skipping version 9.10 so I do
not know whether this problem exists in 9.10.
  3. I have applied all updates that were available in lucid-security and
lucid-updates in Software Sources, Updates.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541492] Re: MASTER: [i845] GPU lockup (apport-crash) (Should KMS be blacklisted?)

2010-05-11 Thread Brian Rogers
The kernel patch from this bug might help:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27187

I placed a kernel with the newest version of the patch in my experimental PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~brian-rogers/+archive/experimental

If it helps, you can provide feedback in the upstream bug.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 577308] Re: computer freezes on screensaver after upgrade to 10.04

2010-05-11 Thread Max
OK, tried Workaround A, same problem but get blank screen instead of
flashing lines. Tried an earlier kernel and that gives me same problem
but screen freezes as is. So it appears that I am on the problem, but
don't have the technical ability to solve it. Tried Workaround C but
couldn't get the ppa to install.

Would it be best to do a disk format and clean install back to 9.x? I'll
lose some customization but get my computer back working again.

Thanks again for your help.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 578173] Re: [regression-release] Computer locks when switching screen

2010-05-11 Thread Leo
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xorg

  Since I upgrade to Lucid,

Cannot switch to virtual terminals with Ctrl+Alt+F1. The screen goes
  black, there is no terminal.

Starting another graphical section works. But when switching back the
computer gets locked by a black screen with a mouse pointer, and the
only way out is unplugging power.

Files will be attached later, I don't have the hardware here.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 577764] [NEW] Synaptic touchpad settings do change but have no effect on behavior

2010-05-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: synaptic

the problem occured with lucid upgrade, formerly it was ok (using
synclient + syndaemon did what it should).

With lucid neither synclient, nor kcm-touchpad nor xorg.conf changes
seem to have any effect on the behavior of the touchpad.

When i change the settings in kcm-touchpad module and check with
synclient -l the settings are indeed changed, however, they have no
effect, at least the sensitivity and enable/disable alltogether do not
work.

** Affects: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 578673] [NEW] Resume doesn't work on a Latitude E6410

2010-05-11 Thread Carlos Parra Camargo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Laptop:
- Latitude E6410 Core i5 with an intel video card.
- Clean Lucid Lynx install.

Problem: it doesn't resume at all, it seems that suspend in a correct
way but when i open the laptop trying to resume, i just get a black
screen.

I've been searching around launchpad and others related sites with no luck.
I've already tested:
- Turn off DRI at xorg.conf. No results.
- Update xserver-xorg-video-intel to 2.11 (from ubuntu-x-swat ppa repository).
Same problem.
- I've tried 2.6.31-10-rt from official ubuntu repositories with the same
result.
- Also, I've tried 2.6.33, 2.6.34-rc6 and 2.6.34-rc7 from kernel ppa but it
seems that my laptop freeze on start with all of these kernels.

In general, my video card is a little anoying, Lucid doesn't works well with
this intel video card (no resume, no scroll on the touchpad by default, a lot
of problems with external monitors, ...). Anyway, let's start for the resume
issue!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 352322] Re: startx from CD boot fails on nvidia card

2010-05-11 Thread papukaija

Thank you for reporting this issue about xserver-xorg-video-nv. Starting
with Lucid, Ubuntu is transitioning to using the -nouveau video driver
by default instead of -nv. The reason for this change is because
upstream development for the -nv driver has been quite slow. We are
quite pleased with the upstream development speed for -nouveau, and hope
this will translate into swifter bug fixes as well.

Because of this, I'm closing this bug report at this time. I'm marking
it incomplete because what you describe is probably a valid issue, but we
do not have further plans to work on it in Ubuntu. If you would still like
to see this issue investigated, I would encourage you to file it
upstream at http://bugs.freedesktop.org/.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 573557] Re: nvidia-current 195.36.15 + kernel 2.6.32 + dual cards crashes system

2010-05-11 Thread Alberto Milone
@doctordruidphd
First of all, the fact that X starts (as you can see kdm) is a clear sign that
you're not experiencing the same issue any more.

Furthermore, as I said in bug #548362, installing the driver from the nvidia
installer must have left your system in a broken state (as you're not using the
alternatives system any more). See the following comment:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/548362/comments/37

At this point I suggest that you either keep using the nvidia installer
or that you perform a clean installation of Ubuntu and use only our
packages.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 578712] [NEW] Wake from Suspend slows desktop

2010-05-11 Thread OnEmAnArMy
Public bug reported:

Hello
i've installed fglrx proprietary driver for my ATI HD3450.
It happens that when, with those drivers enabled, waking from suspend all
windows and even mouse get moving slowly and with glitches.

I've found that changing desktop resolution and reverting back seems to
fix the issue.

I'm running an upgraded to latest packages ubuntu (which means, i've
just done dist-upgrade with no solved issue).

The opened driver does not have this problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 578588] [NEW] Installing ubuntu 10.04 LTS on IBM Thinkpad G41 results in bootup logo and then blank screen upon boot

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

After installing Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on my Thinkpad G41 I get a black
screen after the bootup logo, instead of GDM. In addition, pressing
ctrl + alt + Fnumber to bring up a console doesn't work, so
installing Lucid actually borks my system. This also happens when merely
upgrading from 9.04. Please fix this!

What happened: system became unuseable

What should have happened: system should have been useable

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 578735] [NEW] X does not start (hangs) with ATI radeon in Lucid

2010-05-11 Thread David Faure
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I upgraded a working karmic machine to lucid, and now during boot, the splash
remains and X never comes up.
I tried with no xorg.conf file at all, same thing.

From an ssh session I tried X -configure, and the same thing is happening: X
just hangs while trying to start.
Pressing Ctrl+C says
xf86OpenConsole: VT_WAITACTIVE failed: Interrupted system call
Not sure what this means though.

The videocard is ATI Technologies Inc RV515 [Radeon X1300], and it was using
radeon driver, back when it was working
( in fact I still have the Xorg.log from before the lucid upgrade:
http://www.davidfaure.fr/2010/Xorg.0.log.ok.before.lucid )
No idea what it's doing now, since it hangs almost right away, even in failsafe
mode. So I suppose this isn't video-driver related...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 578173] Re: [regression-release] Computer locks when switching screen

2010-05-11 Thread Leo
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xorg

  Since I upgrade to Lucid,

Cannot switch to virtual terminals with Ctrl+Alt+F1. The screen goes
  black, there is no terminal.

Starting another graphical section works. But when switching back the
computer gets locked by a black screen with a mouse pointer, and the
only way out is unplugging power.

- Files will be attached later, I don't have the hardware here.
