[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 739976] [NEW] package fglrx 2:8.801-0ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: fglrx kernel module failed to build

2011-03-22 Thread Julio Leal
Public bug reported:

Well, I did a upgrade using the command line, from 10.10 version to this
development version. But for some reason, I could not use yet the
AMD/ATI video driver. I configure manually the X.org to use the VESA
driver, because even using the ATI opensource driver, I got some
instability.

2011-03-22 Thread Ubeer
I still have crashes with the latest packages. Here is the output of the
dmesg commands:

dmesg | grep 'Linux version'
Linux version 2.6.38-7-generic (buildd@rothera) (gcc version 4.5.2
(Ubuntu/Linaro 4.5.2-6ubuntu4) ) #37-Ubuntu SMP Mon Mar 21 14:19:35 UTC 2011

dmesg | egrep drm.*ERROR
[8.494710] [drm:i915_report_and_clear_eir] *ERROR* EIR stuck: 0x0010,
masking

Most of the time the machine will halt within minutes to an hour.
Happens often when I'm downloading updates.

If I can be of more help, please let me know.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 432814] Re: Touchpad: Action for middle and right click is reversed since jaunty

2011-03-22 Thread hp_user
Lucid was almost a year ago. Shouldn't this be an open bug against
Maverick (stable) or even Natty (impending LTS release)? Or have we
blown those deadlines, and now we have to shoot for 11.10?

This is still a daily frustration for me. Getting all three fingers to
land at the same time for my second-most-used-click is nigh impossible.
In modern releases, not even the old synclient hack works anymore. We're
left out in the cold.

I love Ubuntu, which is why it pains me to see a major UI bug that
affects UX on a minute-to-minute basis take more than 1.5 years to
resolve.

Just one more comment: at first I thought that it could be due to

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 432814] Re: Touchpad: Action for middle and right click is reversed since jaunty

2011-03-22 Thread Yuri Khan
In GNOME, they decided that it is more appropriate to provide a hook
that will run a user-customizable script when an input device is added
or removed. The xinput or synclient invocations shown above can be added
to this hook. So, for all intents and purposes, this bug can be
considered “Fix Committed”.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 726369] Re: graphical glitches in menu (natty)

2011-03-22 Thread Lucazade
it looks like it is related to XServer with no backfill functionality

https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/xserver-no-backfill
This PPA contains a variant of the xserver with background initialization
disabled. This will result in background corruption (video garbage) in windows
or new objects, however it also gives a performance boost, and on some drivers
the corruption isn't noticeable.

This is imho a major issue for natty release because it affects
Classical Session

** Description changed:

- When I open a menu I get graphical corruption, some artefacts.. it seems
video memory is not clean or has some issue.
- This issue appeared with Xorg 1.10 (from its first rc release) and it is
present in a virtual machine and also using a Nvidia or Intel gfx card so it
seems not related to graphic drivers.
+ When I open a menu I get graphical glitces, also metacity decorator is
+ corrupted.
+
+ This issue appeared with Xorg 1.10 (from its first rc release),
+ it is reproducible with different graphic drivers (ati, nouveau, nvidia,
gma500, vesa, vbox),
+ it is present with metacity and with metacity compositor, only with compiz
activated is no more present.

this is a video with the problem:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1338581/artefacts.ogv
a thread in ubuntuforums with some comfirmations:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1696211

** Summary changed:

- graphical glitches in menu (natty)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 432814] Re: Touchpad: Action for middle and right click is reversed since jaunty

2011-03-22 Thread hp_user
It sounds like the hook script feature provides a framework for a fix,
but not an actual fix for this bug. Has 1/2/3 behavior been restored?

I guess I'm looking for a legitimate bugfix or a declaration from the
Ubuntu maintainers that 1/3/2 (left/right/middle) is the new Ubuntu
multitouch standard. If they pick 1/3/2 as the new standard, we can
either start lobbying for change, lobbying the GNOME maintainers for a
better mouse settings GUI, or build out a separate mouse behavior
customization tool.

How do I mark this bug as Needs Closure? =)

2011-03-22 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker

When I start transmission it freezes completely after few seconds.
Freeze doesn't happen when I run transmission-gtk through gdb (with handle

Doesn't happen in transmission-qt either.
Also happens with transmission 2.22 from ppa.

Attached gdb backtrace log, gdb attached to already frozen transmission-

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 734615] Re: Transmission-gtk freezes on blocklist update

2011-03-22 Thread Juho Teperi
Yes freeze is permanent, I have left transmission running for long times
and it hasn't recovered.

I already did some tests without Nvidia before reporting this, but couldn't
manage to get Nouveau work then.
Apparently it wasn't enough to blacklist nvidia but had to also select right
libGL with update-alternatives.
And indeed, with Nouveau freeze is not happening.

The wacom-pen2.record file seems fine here, and looking through the
file, there is nothing special happening with the y axis (grep for 0003
0001 in the file). In other words, this might still be due to some
other fu in your system.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 740387] [NEW] graphical corruption with multiple drivers and classic desktop

2011-03-22 Thread Marc Deslauriers

When using classic desktop, I am seeing graphical corruption from
incorrect damage handling. This happens on my Thinkpad T61 with binary

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 717114] Re: [i945gm] Screen Corruption with new Xorg stack with terminal programs

2011-03-22 Thread Bryce Harrington
Closing as fixed since the linux task is closed, and has been validated
by several people.

If others are still seeing text corruption issues, it's likely there is
are multiple rendering bugs going on, or else that there is something
hardware-specific going on. In either case, best next action for you is
to file a new bug (you can file against xorg if you want, although like
this one they may technically be kernel bugs.) Include a screenshot or
photo showing the corruption.

** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu Natty)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 740387] Re: graphical corruption with multiple drivers and classic desktop

2011-03-22 Thread Bryce Harrington
Even though it may look the same, let's handle the issue on the -intel
box here and the -nvidia issue on a separate bug report (different
upstreams, etc.)

Are both of the attached screenshots for the -intel box?

In the first screenshot I notice overlapped icons and a black smudge
over the trashcan. Is it just the latter which you consider to be
corruption, or both?

** Description changed:

When using classic desktop, I am seeing graphical corruption from

nvidia driver, and my Thinkpad T510 with the intel driver.

Both screenshots are from the -intel box.

The black smudge over the trashcan is the corruption, the overlapped
icons is normal.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 726438] Re: Can't login after standby since 2:2.12.0-1ubuntu5.2

2011-03-22 Thread mrvanes
I think the problem is not related to the intel driver version
2:2.12.0-1ubuntu5.2 bump, but to these bugs in kernel 2.6.38 that
apparently have not been fixed completely yet?

https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23472
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31803

I therefor consider this bug invalid.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 740461] [NEW] Striping, Tearing, Flashing on video display when using SiS video driver

2011-03-22 Thread 9Sageev George
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Please see https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/297335 for full information. This
report was filed so that Ubuntu developers would know that the bug in the x.org
SiS driver currently exists in the Lucid distribution. It appears that the bug
has never been resolved. The only workaround has been to use the VESA driver
instead.
Release: Lucid Lynx, 10.04.2 (with latest updates)
Expectied Behavior: Correct video output, with resolutions up to and beyond

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 727620] Re: [Radeon HD 5650 and 5470] Driver crash during recovery boot and in normal boot (Regression from 2.6.38-3 to -4)

2011-03-22 Thread Johan Fornander
I have a theory... Maybe there is a race condition between the intel and
ati driver involved here? My notebook starts up in two seemingly random
configurations, or three including the radeon crash:

1. X server is on VT8 - unable to unload radeon module because it is in
use (by some framebuffer I guess). I am also unable to switch to
consoles VT1-7. If I use vga_switcheroo to switch to integrated gpu in
this mode then radeon crashes.

2. X server is on VT7 - I can unload the radeon module and use the
consoles VT1-6. vga_switcheroo works and I can also use acpi calls to
turn off the gpu.

3. The radeon driver crashes. Forcing reboot through RSEIUB.

This makes it difficult to control the temperature since I cannot know
if the radeon module is in use or not (i.e. I might or might not be able
to use the vga_switcheroo, or unload the module and use a specific acpi
call to shut of the gpu).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 560433] Re: [clarkdale] Xorg freeze

2011-03-22 Thread Joshua
I'm also seeing the freeze and the errors posted by Marcello Romani.

I have Intel DH57JG board with i5 650 processor. Nothing else on the
board (using the integrated graphics).

Using Ubuntu 10.10 and 2.6.35-28-generic.

This issue progressed for me to the point where it would occur very
frequently and even when only booted into BIOS. Intel suspected a board
problem and replaced it but I'm still seeing the issue, though not as
frequently with the new board. I've only had the replacement about a
month so time will tell if the performance degrades again. I may also
looking into trying a different processor.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 738352] Re: s-video - TV grey only (should be PAL)

2011-03-22 Thread Bryce Harrington
Is this a recent regression or has it always been this way? If it is a
regression, when did you first start noticing it behaving this way.

Note from your xrandr output, 'NTSC' is not a supported mode. You can
try these values:

mode: PAL
supported: PAL PAL-MPAL-NPAL-Nc
   NTSC-M NTSC-J

Some won't be valid for your region of course, but do any of them work
properly?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 353126] Re: Compiz / vnc screen refresh with nvidia-restricted driver/VirtualBox/ATI fglrx driver using X.org

2011-03-22 Thread rambamram
I can confirm that I'm also having this issue on 10.10 x32 with nVidia
drivers.

Was having this issue with 10.04 as well.

yes with Visual effects disabled you can get Client side info but with
visual effects enabled it does not automatically disable when someone
connects.

If you setup a vncserver :1 and higher the issue does not present
itself...it only affects the main Desktop vncserver :0

in earlier versions there was a built in visual effects auto disable
when VNC connected to the main desktop...but not since 9.14.

2011-03-22 Thread faBIUz
I have the same bug with Ubuntu 10.10 and NVIDIA graphic card GeForce
8400M GS on DEll XPS M1330. My actual kernel is 2.6.35-28-generic and i
used old NVIDIA driver 173 and now i use the newest driver downloaded
from NVIDIA web site 260.19.144 but i have the same problem. When the
bug is manifest the mouse pointer is flashing and the screen, the
keyboard and the mouse pointer are out of control. I can only restart
the system with an hard reset. This is a very important and serious
problem because isn't possible predict when bug appears and when i see
the initials symptoms of the bug it's too late for save the documents
opened because in a few seconds the system is fully out of control.

Thanks for testing Ubuntu and sorry you ran into this bug, but we're
asking 8xx testers to work directly with upstream - file a bug at
bugs.freedesktop.org or post to the xorg mailing list on freedesktop.
At the distro level we're focusing on 9xx and newer chips only.
