[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 761065] Re: [Sandybridge] Spurious *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... blt ring idle messages in dmesg when using compiz

2011-04-25 Thread Felix Engemann
Have also tested this on a ASRock H67M-ITX with i3-2100T and i5-2500T.
Exact same symptom. I'm pretty sure now all Sandy Bridge internal GPUs
are affected, at least with H67 chipset. This looks serious to me as
almost all new PCs are sold with Sandy Bridge. Using development
Kernel 2.6.39 isn't a good solution for Sandy Bridge owners i guess.
Any chance to get the patch from 2.6.39 back in 2.6.38 ? I'm willing to
help with testing.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 755715] Re: [RV670] radeon 3870 X2 gives black screen if using extended desktop

2011-04-25 Thread Tormod Volden
Unfortunately there is no reference to radeon in that dmesg.txt. The one
in /var/log only contains the early boot messages. Please check the
/var/log/kern.log* files which are more complete, or run dmesg
dmesg.txt yourself. If there is still no radeon stuff in there, try to
insmod it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 749508] Re: Latitude E6510 : No Touchpad driver

2011-04-25 Thread Ed S
This is a relevant upstream bug
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14660 and there seems to be
some difficulty in getting an acceptable fix in place.

Linus' tree as mirrrored here does not yet show any change in place:
https://github.com/mirrors/linux-2.6/blob/master/drivers/input/mouse/alps.c

Someone from Dell did submit a (large) patch but it was not accepted.
See
http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=support+for+Intellimouse+Mode+in+ALPS+touchpad+on+Dell+E2

This has been running since August 2010. There seem to be issues
concerning suspend/resume and the more general applicability of the
solution. For a specific laptop, your best bet seems to be to apply the
one-line change from bug 754344 (although that doesn't give you a fully
featured touchpad)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 683165] Re: ugly permanent artefact on minimizing

2011-04-25 Thread Teej
If they are a different problem, it would be best to open a new bug report.
However, if the cause is the same it may all relate to one specific graphics
driver. Can you tell us which version of the nvidia driver you are using please?
Assigned to xorg for now.

Updating the description, I hope someone can fix this soon, quite a
serious regression.

** Description changed:

- second try , hope it does not crash total before I finish this, kernal
- unstable, constant black screens of death. It might have a relation with
- banshee. Happend aftyer using upgrade in synaptics. No this massage pops
- up after every resboot. Last time Screen black and music got in to a
- repeating loop, (like you sometimes had on a vinyl record that jumped a
- trace back)
+ Symptom: Desktop freeze and reboot loop.
+
+ Kernal unstable, constant black screens of death.
+
+ For the worst effected, how to reproduce:
+
+ 1) Make a natty amd64 ubuntu desktop usb boot up disk.
+ 2) Boot off the drive
+ 3) Upon the ubuntu live desktop loading the system will go into the freeze
and reboot loop.
+
+ For those who aren't so badly affected it will just appear as an error
+ message and they can continue on.

Seems slightly related to:

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=35502

For the worst affected (like me) who can't even boot into ubuntu 11.04
without the freeze loop, do the following:

After booting off the usb/cd drive, at the purple screen splash hit
enter, then hit F6, and select radeon.modeset=0 and boot like normal,
you should end up on the Ubuntu Classic Desktop, which you can then
install Ubuntu with, and proceed to install the proprietary drivers to
get the unity goodness.

Included in a separate bug:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/natty/+source/xserver-xorg-video-
ati/+bug/735126

The patches for this bug are included in 2.6.38.3, but unfortunately
will not make it into the initial release kernel. You can load 2.6.38.3
from https://launchpad.net/~kernel-ppa/+archive/pre-proposed.;

So natty will release with this bug.

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu

to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

The exact same thing happens to me on a clean beta Natty with only
Vmware Player (version 3.1.4 build-385536) installed on top of that. It
is not persistent and I have not yet figured out what triggers it.

As told above, running 'setxkbmap' gets all the keys working again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 770354] [NEW] Keyboard responds badly on some keys (bad symbols output)

2011-04-25 Thread l.mojzis
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

When I press certain keys, I expect I'll get the keys on the keyboard in
my layout, I get bad ones instead though. Even when it is the right
keystrokes that work well even in Windows and on Mac, even the symbols
are printed on the keyboard. This needs to be patched. Problem is the
symbols are mapped on different keys, some symbols have been duplicated.
Maybe new keyboard layout should be made, some users sure used to this
buggy layout. I made a new one where all errors I've found are already
corrected. I attach new layout in the patchfile.

lsb_release is not relevant as this problem persists at least for 6
years in every distro I used (Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, Linux Mint,
etc...)

P.S.: The patchfile was made from:

/usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/cz

Best regards
Lukáš Mojžíš

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 761575] Re: X-server hangs while starting some GTK programs

2011-04-25 Thread Martin Bretschneider
After having used Nvidia 270.41.06 for few days is seems very
problematic. The freezing of Nvidia 270.41.06 is known
(http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=160115) and there is
also a performance regression described in
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=161721. I would prefer
the old 260.19.06 of maveric and maybe the newer 70.41.06 only for
newer GPU that 260.19.06 does not support.

Compiz level and another at the FGLRX level), and this was putting a
huge load on the GPU with performance regression.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 370834] Re: QT apps don't refresh (update the screen) properly with compiz

2011-04-25 Thread Krister
In fact, enabling Force synchronization between X and GLX is no longer a
workaround...
this is a huge problem as it means KDE applications (and openoffice?) don't
work correctly.

fglrx 8.831 does not support xserver 1.10. You need at least 8.840.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 770094] Re: Problems with last radeon drivers

2011-04-25 Thread Bryce Harrington
Thanks for testing xorg-edgers, however that is a snapshot of the
upstream source code not something we actively maintain ourselves in
Ubuntu, so bugs with it should really be filed directly upstream at
bugs.freedesktop.org rather than here at launchpad.
