[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 774978] Re: xserver seg'd [945GM]
I am having the same trouble with an i915. My system is stock everything (upgraded from maverick to natty) except running the PAE kernel and the ubuntu classic gdm session. A freeze sometimes occurs within about five minutes of booting up and logging in, but doesn't happen at all if the session survives longer than that, as it usually does. I don't use Firefox, so it's not caused only by that. A freeze can happen randomly even when just popping up any menu. Then it restarts the session using tty8 and doesn't crash again. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 777669] [NEW] Cannot click to highlight or interact with random files after upgrading to 11.04
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Using the Ubuntu classic desktop and looking through my documents, pictures, music files and other files through xorg I noticed that in every directory there are now a few files that I cannot click on at all. To reproduce: - Click on Places at the bottom of the desktop, and open Documents, Music, Pictures, or any other place with a lot of files. - Click on each file, one at a time, and find that eventually you will run into a file that will not respond to left or right clicks (the file will not highlight when you click on it, nor will a context menu appear when you right-click on it). Usually there will be two files in a row that you cannot click on, or there will be one file that will only to, say, one out of every five clicks and a file right below it that will never respond to clicks. Sometimes opening a terminal window and renaming the unresponsive file (via the mv command) will make it responsive again. Rebooting x-windows (ctrl + alt + backspace) does not fix the problem. If one file is made to be responsive usually another will become unresponsive. Even when a file is unresponsive you can still highlight it using the arrow keys, and open it by hitting enter. The unresponsive files are no different in permissions, ownership or file types of the files in the same directory that are still responsive. I know this description may be hard to follow; a video of the behavior is included. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 777669] Re: Cannot click to highlight or interact with random files after upgrading to 11.04
It seems to be more than just files that are unresponsive. For instance, there will be random pieces of text on a webpage that are unresponsive to mouse clicks (I have included another video), and even areas of the text box I am adding this comment into are also unresponsive (the mouse pointer will turn from a text mouse pointer to a simple arrow when I hover over specific areas of this text box, and clicking in these areas will produce no result). It appears that from window to window it may be the exact same space that is unresponsive. Maybe there is some kind of invisible dialog that is blocking mouse input when the pointer is over it? ** Attachment added: out-2.ogv https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/777669/+attachment/2114052/+files/out-2.ogv -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/777669 Title: Cannot click to highlight or interact with random files after upgrading to 11.04 ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 731424] Re: X crashes when I set a Python Tkinter edit control to display a long text string in 25pt DejaVu font
Thanks, I installed Bryce's 2 .deb files with dpkg -i, and now X no longer crashes when I run the above Python script (or the application I'm developing that I hit this in). But as you say there are still problems displaying the text. The characters are displayed only when they are selected with the mouse's click and drag to select text function, and even then it seems to depend on the exact mouse movements used to make the selection (paint from right to left usually works, left to right sometimes). Still I think it's a good idea to keep the fix for the X crash even if we can't get to the bottom of the Tk problem, because an X crash is vastly more serious than a text display problem. (A Tk problem makes one app hard to read, but an X crash might kill 25 other windows with unsaved data!) Thanks.
