[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 876179] Re: Nvidia - dual-screen setup almost impossible
To add to Nathan's previous description regarding auto-reset, it is *sometimes* possible to enable/disable multiple monitors without a reboot, but it requires one to try to perform the change (hitting Apply) twice. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 838577] Re: GNOME Shell display problems with FGLRX
This only means that the fix is released, not that it is available. So far you would have to install fglrx from the ATI website manually. This means download and compile, see wiki for more information. Best is over an existing fglrx so that all the xorg stuff is right. So you should have installed version 11.9 before by additional drivers function. Just uninstall the old fglrx and double click on the new one for installing. Do the same with the control center. Thanks Seth. Installing the deb in comment #492 finally enables touchpad scrolling on my Asus 1830T. Edge scrolling work fine now. Two finger scrolling is a bit more difficult. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 877905] Re: After upgrading Xserver video does not work properly
I believe I am experiencing the same problem, and it has been reported by another user on the Ubuntu forums: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1864567 The symptom is that no GLX application will run. For example, compiz reports: compiz (core) - Fatal: Root visual is not a GL visual compiz (core) - Error: Failed to manage screen: 0 compiz (core) - Fatal: No manageable screens found on display :0.0 And, glxinfo reports: X Error of failed request: BadLength (poly request too large or internal Xlib length error) Major opcode of failed request: 153 (GLX) Minor opcode of failed request: 17 (X_GLXVendorPrivateWithReply) Serial number of failed request: 17 Current serial number in output stream: 17 However, there are no errors reported in my Xorg.0.log, including loading of GLX: (II) AIGLX: enabled GLX_MESA_copy_sub_buffer (II) AIGLX: enabled GLX_SGI_make_current_read (II) AIGLX: enabled GLX_SGI_swap_control and GLX_MESA_swap_control (II) AIGLX: GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap backed by buffer objects (II) AIGLX: Loaded and initialized /usr/lib/dri/r200_dri.so (II) GLX: Initialized DRI2 GL provider for screen 0 As reported in the Ubuntu forums thread, the two users there are running the 2.6.38-12 #51~lucid1-Ubuntu SMP kernel, one with pae and one generic. The problem appears with both the intel i915 driver and radeon driver. Reverting to the prior versions of xserver-common and xserver-xorg-core does restore GLX functionality, so it seems that the update is causing the problem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/877905 Title: After upgrading Xserver video does not work properly To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/877905/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 838577] Re: GNOME Shell display problems with FGLRX
For me it works ok. I have got a 5750. Are you sure you installed the correct preperitary driver of the ATI web site? You probably have the open source driver running. The version should be 2:8.892 as shown in synaptics and must be enabled by xorg, means shown active in the additional drivers dialog. I just had some trouble to install the compiled drivers by the softwarecenter. Not it is installed and still cannot find the control center in unity. I have to call it manually. Dont know why. Maybe it does not work with manually installed applications. BTW Gnome Shell is still less mature that unity. A lot of functions is missing. To make it work one has to install a lot of stuff. Best is the ppa by webup8.org and follow their hints. For me I rather stay at unity. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/838577 Title: GNOME Shell display problems with FGLRX To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/fglrx/+bug/838577/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

You have been subscribed to a public bug: I have tried a clean install of ubuntu amd64 on an 2009 (early 2010?) imac 27 with ATI/Radeon graphics. Install works fine, but there is no way I can get X running. A default boot gets some of the way, then presents a blank screen, which I can't get past (the OS still appears to be running though) I have tried the nomodeset radeon.modeset=0 kernel options, but there is no failsafeX in the recovery menu anymore, which got me through last time. I have tried dropping into a shell to install the fglrx drivers via jockey-text, but this doesn't seem to work either. ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Can't get X running on 27 iMac (Radeon gfx) in 11.10 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/877820 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 877695] Re: Desktop does not revert when unplugging external VGA with nouveau
** Summary changed: - [Latitude E6510] Desktop does not revert when unplugging external VGA with nouveau + Desktop does not revert when unplugging external VGA with nouveau ** Description changed: - Testing the E6510 with Oneiric. I have discovered that neither external - VGA nor Display port work with the nvidia driver from nvidia_current. I - have also discovered that DisplayPort does not work with nouveau. - However, External VGA does seem to work with nouveau. BUT the problem - arises when you unplug the external display. + Testing the E6510 (7383) with Oneiric. I have discovered that neither + external VGA nor Display port work with the nvidia driver from + nvidia_current. I have also discovered that DisplayPort does not work + with nouveau. However, External VGA does seem to work with nouveau. + BUT the problem arises when you unplug the external display. I've managed to recreate this every time by doing the following: 1: Verify you're running nouveau 2: plug in a monitor via external VGA on the 6510. 3: Verify desktop has been extended. I do this simply with CTRL+ALT+Arrow to open the switcher. When configured for dual desktops, you'll see each quadrant split into two with a blue bar under the Primary desktop. 4: Unplug the monitor 5: wait a few seconds and then do CTRL+ALT+Arrow to open the switcher and notice that the desktops are STILL split into two as though the monitor was connected. 6: open something that creates secondary popups. Typing ubuntu-bug xorg in a terminal window does great. You'll notice that while the main apport window may or may not appear on the visible screen, if you open the switcher again, you'll notice that popups are appearing on the extended display, and without the external monitor, there's no way to get to them. You can further confirm this by plugging the monitor back in and you'll see the popup once that monitor comes online. This is a blocker as well because once this happens, the only way to restore usablility is to reboot. I tried unity --reset and tried simply logging out and back in to restart X. Both cases resulted in the system freezing, necessitating a reboot anyway. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 878235] Re: System unusable after update
@Rick What issue are you referring to specifically? Is there a bug reported for this? If there is, and the downgrade fixes the problem, then this bug can be marked as a duplicate of it. Otherwise, a bug describing the problem specifically should probably be reported, and this could be marked as a duplicate of this bug. @Ken Sharp Since this bug requires more information in order to be worked on by a developer, including the information that Rick has requested (whether or not downgrading xserver-xorg-core and xserver-common works around the problem), I am marking this bug Incomplete.
