[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 761065] Re: [Sandybridge] Spurious *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... blt ring idle messages in dmesg when using compiz
On Lenovo g570 ubuntu 12.10 worked perfectly. After upgrade to 13.04 X-Windows started locking up (only the mouse cursor was reacting to mouse movements, but nothing else). The lockup occurs after couple of minutes working in gnome-classic-fallback window manager, no 3D activity was done at the time (at least intentionally). The X lockup is accompanied by messages like these in dmesg (every second or so): [ 533.963858] [drm:i915_hangcheck_ring_idle] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... render ring idle [waiting on 25899, at 25898], missed IRQ? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/761065 Title: [Sandybridge] Spurious *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... blt ring idle messages in dmesg when using compiz To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/761065/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1037610] Re: xorg nvidia crashes, ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64 bit
There is NO onboard graphics card on this mother board. lspci I posted shows this. I discovered the problem was compiz. After disabling compiz the crashes stopped. I am still running fluxbox with two monitors and I have full 3d support for applications, just not for the desktop. I am still using the edgers drivers. This week I may try to enable compiz to see if the bug has been resolved or not. My advice would be to try to disable 3d composition and see if that helps. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1037610] Re: xorg nvidia crashes, ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64 bit
It seems to be an X related issue. I tried to use former kernel ( 3.2.0-45) and the problem persists. If I remove /etc/X11/xorg.conf, everything is working fine. On my side i need compiz or at least 3D support such as OpenGL and i need an option in xorg.conf option AllowSHMPixmaps true to use EGL. Is there another way to enable this option ? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1037610 Title: xorg nvidia crashes, ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64 bit To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/1037610/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1037610] Re: xorg nvidia crashes, ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64 bit
you can use 3d support without using a 3d compositor for the desktop, this is the setup I use. I use fluxbox with two monitors, the Nvidia 660 and no 3d composition. My applications still have full 3d acceleration. The performance is actually better with a light weight like fluxbox and better without the overhead of 3d desktop features while allowing applications the same 3d capabilities they would have using gnome/unity/etc. So without using compiz you will still have the same opengl functionality as with compiz. I am not sure about EGL I will see what I can find specifically for that option. There are some commands you can use to verify 3d acceleration is enabled etc. glxgears glxinfo glxinfo | grep render nvidia-settings /usr/lib/nux/unity_support_test -p//this fails on my system because I do not have 3d composition enabled, but does not effect the 3d capabilities for applications, only for the desktop appearance/effects So I can completely verify that you have 3d for applications without a compositor if you are concerned about that. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1037610 Title: xorg nvidia crashes, ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64 bit To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/1037610/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1191426] Re: logout is slow, profiling reveals lots of CPU time in nouveau_connector_detect
This issue appears to be an upstream bug, since you tested the latest upstream kernel. Would it be possible for you to open an upstream bug report[0]? That will allow the upstream Developers to examine the issue, and may provide a quicker resolution to the bug. Please follow the instructions on the wiki page[0]. The first step is to email the appropriate mailing list. If no response is received, then a bug may be opened on bugzilla.kernel.org. Once this bug is reported upstream, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug- reported-upstream'. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1191426 Title: logout is slow, profiling reveals lots of CPU time in nouveau_connector_detect To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1191426/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1192219] [NEW] Unity Launcher Flickers and Crashes when re ordering icons
Public bug reported: My desktop seems pretty stable but i can readily crash it. Steps to reproduce (on my system) try to click and drag icon in the unity launcher (attempting to reorder icons). first the unity launcher dock starts to flicker and shortly after the entire desktop flickers between a black screen and the desktop screen. This is followed but the display jumping around and often graphical corruption. The mouse pointer can be moved around fine as normal - but you cannot click on anything. At this point i need to reboot the system. I have also had the above happen when trying to install programs through software centre. As of now i am unsure if this is a bug with X or a bug with unity and im not sure where i should be looking to find logs or any indication of the source of the issue. Im willing to report debug info it anyone can tell me what i should be looking for. Christopher, Graham, In my opinion it does not make sense to assign this bug to me. I opened https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1185911 for the problem (which is still being processed). There is a 'small catch'. Up to now, I fail to test if kernel v3.10.0 still holds the problem. It appears that a change in the proc file system interface causes the nvidia driver not to build nor install. This is laid down in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics- drivers-173/+bug/1186786. I just wonder how that will solve... All taken together, as this bug is no more actual for Graham, I guess this one gets closed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1068601 Title: 10de:0322 12.10: Black screen with GeForce FX 5200 card To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1068601/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1077616] Re: 10de:0ca3 (EE) [mi] EQ overflowing. Additional events will be discarded until existing events are processed
So - I reported this bug over 7 months ago, and no sign at all of any progress? And its only ranked as medium? Surely it should be at the very minimum marked as high, or even critical. This bug, causing hard reboots to be required mutilple times every single day, creates a Ubuntu system that in the real world is unusable for day-to-day work. This bug was also reported on the NVidia Developer Forum 3 months ago btw, and it hasn't even been looked at there either. https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/537302/both-screens-black-xorg- at-100-cpu-overflow-errors-in-xorg-0-log-nvidia-driver-310-14-quadro- fx/#3821607 The signs for a successful resolution/fix, it seems, are not good. From my personal experience, NVidia proprietary support for Ubuntu is still unacceptably poor for my graphics card, as it was for my graphics card before that, and the one before that. Nouveau? Even worse, as it was for my previous graphics card, and the one before that. A totally unusable system, hard locking within around 40 seconds of desktop loading. All bugs reported elsewhere, some going back almost 4 years, not a single one ever addressed or fixed. After 8 years, and after countless hours, days and sometimes weeks of trying to put something *back* into Ubuntu, its business and its community, with a sense of huge sadness I've finally reached the point where I feel any further effort I put in is effort wasted. I had great hopes for Ubuntu, but I feel I can't live in self-denial any more. Ubuntu, for me at least, has been a failed experiment - and I have now lost all faith that that will ever change. Ubuntu, it appears, is never going to provide me with a stable operating system that meets my needs. Its quality and reliability are too woefully inadequate compared to its propritary competitors (MS Windows, OSX, Android). It doesn't matter what component is to blame for that, the end-user experience is the same - unacceptably poor. As such, I'm moving to one of Ubuntu's competitors, and its time for to close my Launchpad account. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1077616 Title: 10de:0ca3 (EE) [mi] EQ overflowing. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1191426] Re: logout is slow, profiling reveals lots of CPU time in nouveau_connector_detect
Joseph, I'm not convinced that a kernel bug report would be appropriate here. As I've pointed out, a surprising amount of CPU time is being spent in nouveau_connector_detect which is presumably in the Nouveau kernel driver. The Nouveau project tracks its bugs separately from the Linux kernel; see http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/Bugs/. I thought about filing this at Nouveau, but that Web page says If you are using packages from your distribution, send the bug reports to your distribution and not directly to us. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1192427] [NEW] upper-left x doesn't work in Fallback mode
Public bug reported: I recently did a clean install of Ubuntu 13.04. (I formatted my hard drive and installed Ubuntu and then did all the updates so my copy would be current.) I have gnome-session-fallback version 3.6.2-0ubuntu5. When I'm in fallback mode, when a window is maximized the three buttons on the top left of that window are not usable. Clicking the x (to maximize), the - (to minimize), or the square causes the window to lose keyboard focus, but the window does not get maximized or minimized or change size. I can still use the keyboard shortcuts (Ctrl-Q) to close the window, or I can go to File-Quit. For some reason this problem only appears to affect windows that are fully maximized when the program starts up. If a program starts up not maximized, I can use the controls to maximize and then un-maximize the window. But if I maximize the window, close the program, then start the program again and it starts maximized, the bug is active and there's no way to unmaximize the window. This bug does not happen when I'm in the the regular GNOME mode. I was able to produce this bug on my system with Firefox 21.0 and RhythmBox 2.98 and LibreOffice Calc and LibreOffice Writer. My apologies if I'm reporting this in the wrong place!
