so even if the MTRR errors don't affect the drm subsystem, the resulting
EDID is faulty. You might want to try a newer or later kernel (-pae
flavour) from the mainline ppa at

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/

Mint 12 is based on Ubuntu 11.10, so it used 3.0.x. If that kernel
works, then this is definitely a problem in the precise 3.2 series.
