[Bug 484952] Re: using konsole as default messes with Nautilus console operation

2010-02-03 Thread Charles Harris
I also notices that Konsole no longer uses the --ls option, maybe this
is what is causing a problem with optn-terminal?

[Bug 423648] Re: Package heavily out of date

2010-01-06 Thread Charles Plessy
Hi Stunts and Fabrice,

Indeed, libqt4-dev and other packages in Lucid are already in version
4.6 and clustalx does not like this. I confirmed in a PPA that clustalx
fails to build currently in Lucid
(https://launchpad.net/~plessy/+archive/plessy/+build/143).

About the patch (there is only one, http://patch-
tracker.debian.org/patch/series/view/clustalx/2.0.12-1/hardcode-
accessory-file-locations.patch). Its purpose it to let Clustal X find
accessory files like the help when it is invoked from /usr/bin.

Have a nice day

It seems some font is missing to me. I searched the web and found some
articales to recommand me to install the CMAP and I then installed all
cmap-adobe-japan1 related packages. but still got no luck getting it to work.
I am wondering if the fonts are missing on the cmap-adobe-japan1 package.

[Bug 486412] Re: Transmission hangs while downloading data over 4 GB on encrypted file system

2009-11-29 Thread charles
The problem is that p2p involves a very large amount of random reads and
writes. By running a BitTorrent client on an encrypted filesystem,
you're generating a lot of overhead by constantly encrypting downloaded
blocks and decrypting other blocks to upload them to peers.

I understand and sympathise with your problem, but I'm not sure that
this is a Transmission problem, or even a solvable one.

[Bug 486408] Re: Transmission downloading the torrent data again after crash

2009-11-24 Thread charles
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better

It sounds like the lost data was caused by the filesystem becoming read-
only. I don't know what caused that to happen, but it's beyond the
scope of Transmission. That might be a question for the ext4 people?

Are you able to reproduce this issue on a stable, writable partition?

I don't know. The Ukrainian team's email is allegedly u...@li.org but
that's not a valid address.

You might want might to contact someone listed at https://launchpad.net
/~ubuntu-l10n-lt and ask them if they could take a look..?

translations portion of Launchpad

2009-11-11 Thread charles
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How
to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

I still don't understand. :)

Transmission doesn't have any way to move all the torrents at once...
you can move them one at a time with the Set Location feature, but it

Do you know how the files got moved?

[Bug 479351] Re: Tramsmission broke and lost all my torrents (data)

2009-11-11 Thread charles
Odd that this happened with Transmission 1.75. It's got at least two
safeguards to prevent this:

1. When a torrent's resume data changes (including what's been downloaded, and
what directory it's been downloaded to), Transmission saves that data in the
.resume file.
2. If Transmission thinks it downloaded data for a torrent, but then can't find
that data on startup, it should stop the torrent and give the error message
Can't find local data. Try ``Set Location'' to find it, or restart the
torrent to re-download.

Just to confirm, are you certain that this happened with Transmission
1.75?

Did you re-add the torrents by hand after restarting Transmission?

[Bug 475602] Re: Emacs calendar mode: M-x diary fails to produce diary listing, shows diary file instead

2009-11-10 Thread Charles Curley
RTFM. That's what I did. It turns out that diary-display-function is a
variable. While it has been used as a list in the past, the doc warns
that that use will go away. Apparently it did. I tried initializing it
as follows:

--
(setq diary-display-function 'diary-fancy-display)
--

instead of the old code:

--
(add-hook 'diary-display-function 'diary-fancy-display)
--

The new works just fine.

This was after upgrading to the latest version of emacs23 in karmic-
proposed, per
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/emacs22/+bug/415101. I don't
know if that upgrade affected this problem or not. See comment 42 for
details on how to do that.

[Bug 475602] Re: Emacs calendar mode: M-x diary fails to produce diary listing, shows diary file instead

2009-11-05 Thread Charles Curley
Eliminating the fancy diary display allows display of the diary.

--
  ;; (if ( emacs-major-version 22)
  ;; (add-hook 'diary-display-function 'diary-fancy-display)
  ;; (add-hook 'diary-display-hook 'fancy-diary-display)
  ;; )
--

However this has problems, as blocks of dates are shown with the block
code, not the dates. e.g:

--
%%(diary-float t 4 3) 17:20 leave for Business After Hours, 17:30, various
places.
--

Apparently the non-fancy diary display uses folding mode, which has
problems for copy and paste.

[Bug 431217] Re: package ttf-mscorefonts-installer 2.6 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2009-11-01 Thread Laurent CHARLES
To me it seems a pb of DNS time out.

I solved the pb with this workaround/dirty patch.

In the file /var/lib/dpkg/info/ttf-mscorefonts-installer.postinst (coming with
package first install),
I removed the DNS time out in watchdog line 148 to get
  if ! wget --continue --tries=1 --connect-timeout=5 --read-timeout=300
 $QUIET_ARG --directory-prefix . --no-directories --no-background $URLROOT$ff
 ; then
instead of
 if ! wget --continue --tries=1 --dns-timeout=10 --connect-timeout=5
 --read-timeout=300 $QUIET_ARG --directory-prefix . --no-directories
 --no-background $URLROOT$ff ; then

But I can not tell you why it failed with this package and not with
others.

Does this work hack for others as well?

I should probably have written Does this hack work for others as
well?... sorry.

FYI, I've successfully applied the hack on a second machine just installed.
It works.

[Bug 129285] Re: dmraid and LVM are incompatible

2009-11-01 Thread Charles Duffy (M1)
The patch referenced in comment 22 appears to operate as advertised,
removing /dev/sd[a-z][0-9] entries corresponding with the RAID members.

I am, however, somewhat concerned -- there are still numerous references
to the underlying partitions based on the identity of the underlying
hardware, such as
/dev/mapper/1ATA_ST3320620AS_9QF8SL{J8,RF}-part{1,2,3,4,5}, and I don't
see anything in the default lvm.conf which would remove such entries
from consideration.

[Bug 254758] Re: osm2pgsql fails to import data

2009-10-28 Thread Charles Curley
I don't know if that problem is still reproducible, but this one
certainly is:
http://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/dev/2009-July/016133.html. Note
the advice at the bottom: roll your own. Compiling from source solved
*that* problem. I conjecture there's been a change in the data format
between the two versions.

Also note the dates on the email and in the package.

[Bug 460620] Re: Transmission Version 1.76 is Available

2009-10-26 Thread charles
This is a bug fix release that solves many major crashes and data loss
problems.

Yes and no. Krzysztof applied the two most important patches already,
and the steps to tickle most of these bugs were pretty esoteric. 1.76
is really just a clearinghouse of assorted bugfixes that we wanted to
release before 1.80.

This is a bugfix only release so it would be nice if it got folded in at

[Bug 460733] Re: Transmission bit-torrent doesn't honor speed limitation preferences

2009-10-26 Thread charles
Thank you for taking the time to report this and helping to make Ubuntu
better.

I've known Transmission to fluctuate above the speed limit for a brief
period, and don't consider that to be a serious bug. But if you're
getting =sustained= 75 KB/s or more when the speed limit is set to 10
KB/s then that would be a problem.

Things to check:

* Are alternative speeds turned on? (Is the turtle icon lit?) If so, what
are there settings?
* Do you have any per-torrent speeds set? Are any of them set to ignore the
global limits? (See the Properties - Options dialog for each torrent)
* When Transmission goes up to 75 KB/s, is it for a moment or two, for 10
seconds or more, or is it a constant, sustained speed?

[Bug 159396] Re: apt-file can't find Contents on /cdrom

2009-10-24 Thread Charles Curley
I pulled in ubuntu-9.10-rc-server-i386.iso, and built a virtual machine
using that. I set up the openssh server only. I did not use an apt-cache
installation. Using the supplied sources.list, I installed apt-file.

Does it matter how large the torrent's files are?
