Hello Alexandru,
Thanks for sharing. The reason could be that the VM is using IDE instead of
virtio. Please stop the VM and add the key "rootDiskController" with value
"virtio" and see the difference. You'll have to ensure that virtio drivers are
installed on the VM so that it would be able to detect the disks.

Thanks,
Jayanth

I don't have a template yet, actually this vm was installed from a Windows ISO

Or something more advanced would be needed, like a galera cluster?

2024-05-23 Thread Jayanth Babu A
Hello Alexandru,
Thanks for sharing. The reason could be that the VM is using IDE instead of
virtio. Please stop the VM and add the key "rootDiskController" with value
"virtio" and see the difference. You'll have to ensure that virtio drivers are
installed on the VM so that it would be able to detect the disks.

Thanks,
Jayanth

Hi Jayanth,

I don't have that key. In the settings section of the vm there are 2 keys,
Message.ReservedCapacityFreed.Flag and rootdisksize.
I don't have a template yet, actually this vm was installed from a Windows ISO
(that is registered as Windows PV in ACS) and I was hoping to transform it into
a template with cloudbase-init, but since the performance is so bad I didn't
get past the updates phase...

Subject: Windows VM performance in ACS

Hi everyone,

Is there anything that must be done to improve the performance of Windows VMs
in ACS? I tried to deploy a W10 instance, with the virtio drivers, and the
performance is very, very poor (for example it took almost 3 hours to install a
CU, the actual setup took about 50 minutes and so on). The hypervisor kvm on a
HP server, with ssd's for storage. In other apps there are those hyper-v
enlightments that can be enabled for Windows guests and it really makes a
difference, but I have no idea if this is a thing in ACS too. If someone has
some info on this, please share.

Thank you!

Hi Ian,
Yes. In this case, the ACS management server doesn’t need any additional
configuration but you’ll have to take care of CPVM and SSVM (optionally) like
Ruben suggested. Also see [1] where you should have a CA signed one instead.

Thanks for the info, do you mean running ACME on the reverse proxy? Anything
needing to be configured on the ACS management server?

Thanks

Ian, this is easily achievable by means of an ACME client (Certbot) and running
ACS management behind a reverse proxy. You can write a hook to upload a
certificate to the CPVM as well. (
https://checkpoint.url-protection.com/v1/url?o=https%3A//cloudstack.apache.org/api/apidocs-4.16/apis/uploadCustomCertificate.html=NTI4NzIzY2NiZTM4YzE1Yw===N2JiM2Q5ZTFmY2NiZDUwYTkxM2U0ODY5MmM2MjhlNjNkMWY4ZjlhNTQ0MWFjMDQwNTAwYWU1YzI4NDEwNjllMQ===Y3AxZTpueHRnZW5pbmZpbml0ZWRhdGFjZW50ZXI6YzpvOmU1YWQ3MDZjNDAzYjhiMGQzNTM0MmZhMjcyZGIyODFhOnYxOnA6VA==)
Just be mindful that the CPVM requires a wildcard certificate.

Hello Niclas,
May I know what is the version of CloudStack, is it 4.19?

Let us say we keep the "browse" functionality aside for now, are you able to
start and manage the VMs, images and ISOs from CloudStack?

You also said that you managed to restore a backup, how much loss are we
talking about here?

Hello,

I have had a disk failure on my NFS server which hosts primary and secondary
storage. I have managed to restore a backup and the file structure is back on
the primary storage on the NFS server. However, it seems Cloudstack has lost
the reference to it, Primary storage is showing as “up”, but when I click
browse, it’s empty. I have validated the NFS connection and can mount the
primary storage to a test folder, so it appears there is some relation between
cloudstack and the primary storage volumes that’s disappeared.

I am in a bit of panic mode here, so it’s possible I missed something but are
there any steps I could take from here ?

Thanks

Re: Understanding Secondary Storage Traffic

2024-03-29 Thread Jayanth Babu A
Alright. CephFS and RBD stay in different Ceph pools. To clarify, this is how
CloudStack does it

  1. Upload of Guest Images and ISOs: The secondary storage VM mounts the NFS
share (from CephFS) and writes the images to CephFS pool.
  2. Instance Launch for the first time: The RBD image gets created from the
QCOW2 (or compatible) stored in NFS (CephFS). This is performed by the
hypervisor which mounts the NFS share and creates a RBD image.
  3. Disk Snapshots: Hypervisor mounts the NFS share (also does the format
conversion from RAW to QCOW2) and stores it on NFS share (CephFS).

Now coming to your question, there is no inter-pool copy in Ceph for any
transactions, so consider some additional copying over secondary storage and
hypervisor plus protocol translations between RBD and NFS. A secondary storage
instance is bound on the “management” network of hypervisors so can make use of
your 4 * 100 Gbps in presence of a trunk for management and other networks.

In case you’re planning for external NFS server by any chance, please plan your
network interface of the NFS server in such a way that the secondary storage
and hypervisors are able to serve all the 3 points mentioned above at the scale
of the infrastructure.

Jayanth Reddy

Hello Community,

i am planning a cloudstack hyperconverged cluster with Ceph as primary and
secondary storage.

I already know that snapshots, volume backups and images are transferred via
secondary storage interface, but I have problems in understanding the correct
flow.

Maybe someone can explain it to me , because i need to understand which loads
are transferred via secondary to size the interface correctly.

In my setup I ve 2x nics with each 2x 100Gbits ports for eph cluster network
and public network. So in sum Ceph has 400Gbits on each host. So now the
documentation says that cloudstack will transfer snapshots/images/backups via
secondary storage. But I don't get it because the data is hosted by ceph and
ceph has a capability of 400Gbit. So when I for example use 30Gbits for
secondary storage will this limitate snapshots/images/backups to 30Gbits? Or
does it mean that cloudstack use the secondary storage network for management
things, but the data are still transferred by ceph?

secondary storage will this limitate snapshots/images/backups to 30Gbits? Or
does it mean that cloudstack use the secondary storage network for management
things, but the data are still transferred by ceph?

Bharat, see if you can start using the isolated network to get the full
experience of CKS. In shared network you should only rely on connecting to node
ports or have an external load balancer (outside of CloudStack) balance the
traffic to the node ports where any service like traefik runs.

Thanks,
Jayanth

Hi,

Just my 2 cents.

If you use NodePort, you need to know which worker node the pod is runing
on. It is a problem if there are multiple nodes. To solve this problem,
LoadBalancer can be used. cloudstack creates a load balancing rule to the
NodePort of all worker nodes. So the service can be accessible no matter
where the pod is. However, this only works with Isolated networks, as
shared networks do not support Load Balancer.

traefik may work for you, I did not look into it yet. Another way is as I
have suggested, use kubectl port-forward to access the services with
ClusterIP.

Hi Wei,

In shared n/w the traefik ingress is needed or only nodeport is enough for that!

Hi Bharat,

If you deploy a CKS cluster on an isolated network, please ensure the
public Ips (which include the endpoint IP of the CKS cluster, and Load
balancer IPs) are reachable from the management server.
The management server configures the k8s nodes (controller/worker) via the
port -222x of endpoint IP.

If you deploy a CKS cluster on a shared network, Load balancer is not
supported.
If you create a K8s service with nodeport, you can access it by :.
If clusterIP is used, to access the service, you need to run "kubectl
port-forward" on the controller node.

Hi Jayanth,

My point is not among the vm’s. Concern in the shared network, as what the IP
allocated in that range is having latency.

Day before yesterday, the network is working fine.

Re: CKS Storage Provisioner Info

2024-02-27 Thread Jayanth Babu A
Hello Bharat,
Please confirm if you’re using self-signed or a signed certificate from trusted
CA on your management server API endpoint. The error indicates that the CKS
cannot complete the TLS handshake due to the common name or SAN mismatch.
It is usually advised to put Trusted CA signed-certificates and have the proper
domain names or SAN that match the certificate. Please change the endpoint
domain name accordingly in the global configuration setting “endpoint.url” and
ensure the CKS nodes or network is able to resolve and connect to it.

traefik service is in pending state as I have 1 control and 1 worker node.

kubectl get svc

NAME TYPE CLUSTER-IP EXTERNAL-IP PORT(S)
AGE

kubernetes ClusterIP 10.96.0.1443/TCP
39h

nginx-nodeport NodePort 10.110.79.87 80:30918/TCP
15h

nginx-serviceNodePort 10.110.244.170 80:32180/TCP
17h

traefik LoadBalancer 10.107.145.95
80:32289/TCP,443:32426/TCP 17h

Inside the cluster the CLUSTER IP was continuous change by the
SVC, I just login again and I saw that the CLUSTER IP is different from
yesterday.

Hi All,

Thanks for helping out for the storage provisioner.

In CKS service I am able to bound PVC as ReadWriteOnce with Leaseweb CloudStack

Is there any opportunity in the cloudstack with other driver that I can bound

I tried with Leaseweb and got below warning

Re: DDOS Attacks from my virtual Router

2024-02-12 Thread Jayanth Babu A
Hi,
I'm not sure if this is due to dnsmasq update and there are currently no
security advisories that describe this. IIUC, the origin of these kind of
events is more from the VMs provided to the customers or external folks and not
from the components of cloud itself.

Thanks,
Jayanth Reddy

Update:

So since I ran updates for dnsmasq in all system vms, the issue seems to be
solved. Our DC hasn't complained again. So it seems the vm templates need an
update?

Please capture on 53/UDP as most of the DNS stack uses UDP by default.

I looked the screenshot, No NAME means that the IP hasn't undergone STATIC NAT
to a VM, which is okay wherein perhaps there could be port forwards or Load
Balancer instead. The VR should assign the IP on its interface if it is
acquired in the network. If I may ask, how are you concluding that IPs are
unassigned elsewhere, have you performed basic reachability tests? Your case
could be one of the below

1. That IP could be SNAT for that network.
2. Or there was an assignment to one of the VMs previously as STATIC NAT and
later released. Please check your events.

I run version 4.18.1.0 currently, oddly there was an update for dnsmasq so I
applied them to all systemvms. I clean restarted the guest networks and so far
everything seems to be running fine. If I pick up issues, I will destroy the
routers so that cloudstack can recreate them again.

In the meantime, I am running the tcpdump as recommended in the vritual router
and will keep an eye on it, as mentioned there seems to be no movement on port
53 so far and I also asked the DC to provide an update on this after the
changes I have applied.

In any case, attached is a screenshot of the IP address that are allocated but
zero VM associated, I checked all of them and these IPs show up no where. I
have no loadbalancers, proxies nothing. Just simple setup, with two virtual
routers, one SSVM and one Consolevm. The rest are VM instances. I am going to
check the git url you provided and query the DB to see what these are.

Hi,
Allocated means that it is assigned somewhere. You'll need to check the Public
IP Address tab. Use the shared GH issue for exceptional case.

The VR does bind only on the internal network. No, manually updating packages
on VRs and System VMs might produce strange results. Please provision them
again.

Thanks
