I am using SMPP.
Where in kannel/sqlbox config do I set that parameter?

Storing number of SMS segments (submit_sms) in the database

2022-06-21 Thread Simon Peter Otandeka
Hey All,

I have a kannel-sqlbox set up. Wanted to know if it's possible to store the
number of segments (submit_sm) for concatenated or long messages in the
database. Is there a flag or field for that in sqlbox set up?

Thanks,
Peter

May his soul rest in eternal peace.
His contributions to the Kannel project will be missed.
He provided us with a lot of user support and most of us benefited from it.
May the Almighty judge him fairly.

Dear John,

Post some bearerbox logs showing the errors you are getting so that we can
assist.
Kannel doesn't stop sending after 42000 SMS.

Hi,

Please make sure you kill all the instances of bearberbox and smsbox before
you do a restart.
There is one still occupying port 13000 or any other port that are you are
using..

Re: broadcast

2015-11-26 Thread Otandeka Simon Peter
Hi John,

That's an encoding problem at either your gateway or SMSC. The most
probable culprit is the network's SMSC.
Try connecting kannel to another smsc and see if the same situation occurs
or not.

You have to install kannel-dev_1.5.0-0_amd64.deb and after that to

Re: Kannel 1.5 smsbox error

Hi,

1. Run bearerbox first before running smsbox something like
/usr/local/sbin/bearerbox -v 0 /etc/kannel.conf
/usr/local/sbin/smsbox -v 0 /etc/kannel.conf
2. Send us the full log at debug-level zero (/usr/local/sbin/bearerbox -v 0
/etc/kannel.conf)
3. Check that you reach your SMSC at the given port and connection is
stable.
4. Also check for file permissions.

Your sendsms url should specify the dlr-url, dlr-mask and most importantly
the smsc_id to identify the particular smsc you are sending the message
through.

Re: How to send sms to SMPP client

2013-05-06 Thread Otandeka Simon Peter
Hi Jeck,

It is possible as I have done it before. Your client (dev-server
192.168.1.59) should be connected to an SMSC. So an SMS sent from 0.29
will go through opensmppbox and then onto 1.59 that will send it to the
SMSC for delivery to the msisdn.

Go through the userguides and let us know where you are stuck.

Re: Need to download some CVS versions

2012-08-30 Thread Otandeka Simon Peter
Can this help?
SVN access to source code

You can look at the current development version of the sources directly
from our subversion control system. We use SVN, so you need to install that
first. (See for example SVNhome.org http://subversion.apache.org/ for a
source distribution, or your Linux distribution for ready-to-install
binaries.)

   1. Get sources using the following command

   svn co https://svn.kannel.org/project/trunk

where project is: gateway, sqlbox or opensmppbox.

   2. Later, when you want to check whether there have been changes, do the
   following:

   cd gateway
   svn up

If you want to send us patches, please send the output of svn diff. Please
send the patches as plain text attachments to de...@kannel.org

Check with your operator. The transmitter or receiver leg is failing. Or
else try to bind as transmitter/receiver and see the logs as they will tell
you what usually fails.

1- try to setup latest kannel bcz 1.4.3 is too old.

2- share your full config. You dont need to setup Rx and Tx separately.

Is there any way I can batch send a larger number of different messages to
kannel. The problem I have is that it takes quite a while to do lots of
 http
requests to sendsms, so I'm wondering if it would be possible to send
several messages in one http connection some way. I've tried to see if I
could use Http Keep-Alive but it seems it's not supported, or I have
 configured something wrong.

The kannel package comes with a sample and basic configuration file. Look it

2011-10-13 Thread Otandeka Simon Peter
Some of the questions to ask yourself are:-

1. Are the Internet connection speeds very good?
2. Is your SMPP connections always up and not intermittent?
3. What throughput have you set in the kannel config? I hope it is not set
to 3.
4. Anything in the logs (esp bearerbox and smsbox) that will give us more
clues on how to help you out?
5. You may need to re-design your app to cater for those delays but that is
something meant for private discussion and not Kannel mailing list.

 Hi all,

My client is located in Africa while my server is located in the US.

Messages are being delivered at a rate of 3 sms/second.

My server has at least 1GB RAM; 600GB bandwidth and enough HDD.

Might anyone know what other issues I should look out for that could
 be causing this long delays?
On my local test server, I get to sent 700+ messages per second but
 not on the live one.

 Any help will be appreciated.

Re: Remote Connectivity

2011-09-28 Thread Otandeka Simon Peter
Check your smsbox-access log file. It will provide more info why your URL
is failing.
Kannel is not receiving anything from your URL when it calls it and that is
why it is complaining.

You can post the logs so that we can assist.

Thanks,

 Hello Kannel Users,

Iam in a bit of a fix here.

I have installed kannel on ubuntu server and is working just fine. The
server is connected to 3 different SMSC operators via smpp. I have setup
another remote server which is on the Local Area Network(192.168.1.30) which
is connecting to the Ubuntu server via the Playsms Web Interface. Am running
some short codes which are defined on the main Ubuntu server with connection
to SMSC operators. I want when a message comes to the main ubuntu server
with Keyword Mwamba to be routed to the other server I have installed which
is on the Local Area Network(192.168.1.30). Now since this server is behind
a router, I opened port 80 on the router and directed all traffic coming
through this port to go to the 192.168.1.30 machine.
Below is an extract from my kannel.conf

 #Mwamba Service
 group = sms-service
 keyword = mwamba
 get-url = http://router public IP Address/check.php?a=%as=%sp=%pk=%k
 strip-keyword = false
 omit-empty = true

The check.php script is hosted on the 192.168.1.30 machine.

When I send a message from my mobile phone with mwamba as keyword, kannel
 log shows the following:

Hello Benjamin,

You need to specify the system-type in your smsc configs. For this, you
will have to get from your SMSC engineers.
It could be SMPP, VMA, CMT or any other depending on what you are given. It
could be even left blank.

If you don't mind, email me privately and may be able to help with the
vendor.

Thanks,
Peter.

First back up your configuration file. Afterwards prepare a new one based
on the old one. Some parameters could have changed names and others
deprecated. So go through the current user guide as it will advise you on
what to add/remove. Afterwards install kannel 1.5.0 and test it with the
new config. If you get any problems, we are here on the list to help.

I would like to kindly ask whole community to review my inquiry and help me
 with the following concern.

Currently I am using pretty old version of Kannel, which sometimes crashes
 a
bit. I have reviewed all logs and release notes and all birds told me that
time for a change to 1.5.0. has come. I am just wondering if my current
configuration is going to work with new release. I am not using any special
patches or features, except this allowing me to receive delivery reports
 via
 different SMSC than MO messages.

Does anybody have an idea how to prepare kannel to be upgraded to 1.5.0
 with
these elements (config, features) in mind? Would it work if I install
 kannel
from a package and try to run from the different location but with current
config? How this is going to affect kannel database (for this I am using
 postgresql)?

 Thanks in advance,
 Miros

Re: message_payload handling

2011-08-11 Thread Otandeka Simon Peter
Thanks Nikos.

However I realised Kannel uses the *more_messages_to_send* tlv to inform the
MC that there are further messages to the same destination SME. Is it
correct to assume that all SMSCs support that tlv parameter?

Anyway I can configure it to use the *message_payload* tlv or it is not
possible at all?

Thanks,
Peter.

On Wed, Aug 10, 2011 at 8:25 PM, Nikos Balkanas nbalka...@gmail.com wrote:

 Hi,

Currently kannel sends only short_message. It will read both
message_payload and short_message. The reason is that message_payload is
used for SMPP 3.4 and higher, whereas short_message is used by all.
According to SMPP spec, short SMS (255 chars) should use short_message.
Larger SMS may OPTIONALLY use message_payload. Therefore, your provider
should support short_message, if he is SMPP compliant. Talk to them.

What version of Kannel did you install? If you installed 1.5 version then
the folder it should be there.

Alternatively you can compile with the sources. For example if your

You can run the configure command as * ./configure

SMPP Box Question

2010-11-21 Thread Otandeka Simon Peter
Hi All,

I have managed to come up with a set up SMSC(Telco) --- Kannel(smpp
account from telco) SMPPBox SMPPBox client (another kannel)
set up.

However my question is if I have many smppbox clients (short codes), how do
I route SMSs(to and from) separately to each of these? I don't see where
to configure the short code in the smpplogins.txt or opensmppbox.conf.

And how do I connect sqlbox to smppbox?

Thanks,
Peter.

Re: Interactive SMS apps with different operators

2010-10-04 Thread Otandeka Simon Peter
Hi,

Anything can happen between your application, sms gateway, smpp gateway(if
any) , smsc and probably some other node within the telecommunications
network like the msc. However first rule out that the problem is not your
side.

Do you send a reply within 5-10 seconds from your sms gw to the smsc even
when there is a delay on receipt of the message to the phone?
Do you get any acknowledgement from the smsc?
Do you actually have a stable connection between the sms gateway and smsc
(operator)? You may want to do some routing tests.

Post detailed bearerbox logs that the kannel users can go through and
advise.

BR,
Peter.

 Hi,

Stipe's SMPPbox and openSMPPbox are very similar. Strictly speaking they
are proxies, not servers. In other words, eventually they will need an SMSc
to send SMS. All SMS are sent through SS7 (legacy phone network) to reach
mobiles. After all mobiles are phones and live in SS7. All provider SMScs
have one leg in SS7, the other in SMPP (or similar network). You need to
have registered a band of phone numbers to be considered a provider.

Can sqlbox sit in between opensmppbox and kannel??

Why am asking this is I need sqlbox to store the logs as I want to connect
several clients over SMPP through smppbox.

 Thanks,

 Hi Nikos,
 Thanks for the reply.
 I understood now.
HLR is ok but whats the role of pstn/ss7 in the said model.
secondly I read from forum that stipe our kannel architect maintains a
server.how its usefull and why we should use this.

 Hi,

Of course you need a provider (SMSc). Kannel is an ESME, not an SMSc. To
 be
an SMSc, you need to talk HLR, SS7 and have allocated a good number of
 phone

but then I`m stuck, sessions remains open until it is droped by Core
Network.

Anyway if you have any conf sample would be a lot of help.

Hey all,
we are using kannel as gateway for USSD services with success.
Generally if you want to use just USSD strings conf may look like
this:

group = smsc
smsc-id = MVNO-USSD-STRING
smsc = smpp
host = 10.10.10.10
port = 5014
smsc-username = foo
smsc-password = bar
system-type = VMA
service-type = EA
log-file= /var/log/kannel-ussd/ussd_strings.log
log-level = 0
wait-ack-expire = 1

If you need menu based services just change:
service-type = CR

It works pretty with Hu*wei USSDC.
Soon I'll be ready to release HTTP backend which can be used in
sms-service (nifty GUI, menus, games, polls, etc.).
If you are interested in such solution just let me know - i'll try to
speed things up ;-)

Can you paste your cgi-bin sendsms url? You could be missing something.

Are you able to bind successfully?

Ok thanks, what's the best header to send in.
 Content-Type: text/html; charset=utf-8 or
 Content-Type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1

Do I need to config kannel to expect a particular type, I noticed

time I send a request with the either header above I have a PANIC

 Hi Mike,

Kannel is very explicit about its problem. The HTML header
Content-type
you are submitting with your javascript (or more likely don't send
at all)
is invalid. The header of course is not part of the URL which
seems to be

 OK.

You can see the headers you are sending to kannel either by a packet
analyzer like tcpdump, or by starting bearerbox and smsbox at the
shell at

 maximum verbosity:

 bearerbox conffile
 smsbox conffile

 Nikos

Also it rejects having keyword and keyword-regex when put together in

Any advice is appreciated.

Re: Newbie question: sending sms thru http

2008-08-07 Thread Otandeka Simon Peter

Julius,

I do not think Kannel can send email by itself.

You have to receive the SMS first, then whatever language you are
using in your application, use its sendmail function to send the email
to the recipient.

Your get-url should be able to receive the whole string and then you
can pass on the message(sms) to the application to email it.

Some telcos can allow you to use sms2email and send an email thru http.

The thing i really don't get is how can i send the http???
What do i need? what is cgi-bin/sendsms in get-url? is that contrib/

Can i do that with this?

html
 head

 /head
 body
 form name=temp method=get action=http://localhost:13013/empty.html

 input type=text name=to value=+56456456 /
 textarea name=msg rows=4 cols=20

 /textarea
 /form
 /body
/html

empty.html is just empty file... and set
   get-url=http://localhost:13013/empty.html?to=%pmsg=%r;

can i do that not using the contrib/sendsms?

Thanks... more power to you guys and gals...

Edit: May I add... im doing sending a sms from http to a gsm

Julius,

The files do not exist at all. Make sure also the file or file path
( I normally use /var/log/kannel/smsbox.log) has the right permissions.

But it also seems your bearerbox is not fired up. First startup the
bearerbox then smsbox after.

You seem to be binding reciever only and not transciever(receiver
+transmitter). See SMSC configurations in userguide.

Also ensure you are connections to SMSC are stable. It might keep

Re: receiving Mo message and execute a programme

Hi Rim,

Please read again the userguide especially on sms-service
configurations.

Your shell command/script might not be working. Could try using a
URL(get-url) instead to process your messages.

Hope I have helped.

Cheers,
Peter.

Re: SMSC Information

2008-07-23 Thread Otandeka Simon Peter

Victor,

You can get in touch with a telco preferably in the region you want to
do business with and can give you access to their SMSCs for commercial
purposes.

They should provide you with SMSC connection parameters which you can
easily configure in your Kannel config and be able to start your
business.

That is the easiest way.

Cheers,
Peter.

two smsc connections

Hi People,

Like having one in transciever mode and another not?

Have tried one but it keeps rejecting the transciever mode when I add
it in config it refuses to connect. The two configs are for different
shortcodes.

Below are the two configs:-

group = smsc
smsc = smpp
smsc-id = smsc1
host =  ***.***.***.**
port = 5200
transceiver-mode = false
#interface-version = 33
receive-port = 5200

smsc-username = ***
smsc-password = **
#address-range =
preferred-smsc-id = smsc1
denied-smsc-id = smsc3
throughput = 20
source-addr-ton = 0
source-addr-npi = 0
dest-addr-ton = 0
dest-addr-npi = 0

Other config:-

group = smsc
smsc = smpp
smsc-id = smsc3
preferred-smsc-id = smsc3
denied-smsc-id = smsc1
host =  ***.***.***.**
port = 5200
ransciever-mode = true
recieve-port = 5200
system-type = smpp
smsc-username = **
smsc-password = **
throughput = 20

#dest-addr-npi = 0

Hi Aarno,

Looks like you cannot reach the server itself.

Have you tried to check your routing? Can you trace route up to the
specified server?

Try and also telnet the specified port . Their firewall could be
blocking you.

First rule out such issues.

Hi Engel,

Please tell us how far you have reached.Probably we can pick from there and
see what to do.

Can u recieve an SMS from the SMSC?

Is your URL able to recieve the message, store it in a db or anywhere else
and probably interpret it?

Can you be able to respond back and send a message to the phone?

What stage are you on now?

Send us your logs probably access, smsbox and bearerbox logs.Probably they
can provide an easier way to interprete the problem and we respond.

from what i read so far, your smsc will use http requests

so, you need to set smsc of http type

http://kannel.com/download/kannel-userguide-snapshot/userguide.html#AEN2227

so the scheme would be
smsc --http-- yourbox

so you need to set smsc of http type in a view to receive the MO traffic

example
group = smsc
smsc = http
system-type = generic
smsc-id = fake_http
smsc-username = Engel
smsc-password = Linus
port = 13315
send-url =
theURLwhereYourProviderWillWaitForMTTrafficInitiatedByYOurApplication

status-success-regex = sent
status-permfail-regex = failure
status-tempfail-regex = retry later

so, according the manual, the
http request from your operator should looks like
http://kannel_box_ip:13315/?username=Engelpassword=Linusfrom=MSISDNHEREto=youraSSIGNEDRECIPIENTtext=SMSHEREtimestamp=2008-01-22+14%3A17%3A24
kannel will respond with plain text Sent. and http header 200 OK

i would say its good idea to read the manual, there are a lot of examples
in it.

Hi, Engel,

the problem is not the wrong path etc.

you need to understand that the send-sms url set in the kannel config is
virtual

kannel do not serve any requests not described into the config.
The sms-service GET/POST/XML url needs to be created by you though.

So, just use the example config files of kannel first.

Hi,

I think the problem is that Kannel is looking for the wed document in
the wrong place. Is there a way to tell it
where to start looking? The document is currently in the Apache root
(/var/www/), I thought that is where Kannel would start looking but
obviously I was wrong.

Hello All,

How do I blacklist numbers so that they are not sent to when Kannel sends it
messages.

Can I have like a text file, kannel first checks before it sends messages and
wont it slow down message sending.

Peter

RE: System error

2007-12-27 Thread Otandeka Simon Peter
Thanks Alejandro,

It is actually the SMSC that is misbehaving and bringing the error.

My SMSC operator confirmed.

Cheers

Simon

Simon,

That error is being sent by the SMSC. It's usually an euphemism I don't
really know what's happening (as most system errors out there).

We've experienced similar behaviour with a couple of carriers, and they've
never managed to find out what was happening. It's not a kannel fault, but
(at least in our case) a problem on the other side.

What could be done to solve it? Nobody really knows, since it's a generic
error not related to a specific problem. I'd suggest you to talk to the SMSC
operator and ask him what he sees on his side, maybe his logs are a little
bit more specific than the system error you get.

Hope it helps,

Alejandro Guerrieri

Separate Logs

2007-11-05 Thread Otandeka Simon Peter

Hello guys,

I need your help.
I wish to have two separate log tables.
One for holding successful SMSs and another to hold failed ones.

At the moment, i have one log table that stores any message that hits.

What is the easiest way I can do it.
Do I have to change anything in my configuration?

Peter

Hi guys,

Are there Kannel versions which donot support those parameters in conf.

When I set them and restart kannel, it just fails to send at all.

I have the latest stable release of Kannel.

Could there be a problem with my installation or it is Kannel having a bug?

Split messages charged more than once

2007-10-19 Thread Otandeka Simon Peter
Hello all,

We use MT billing.
However if a message is longer than 160 characters, the subscriber is charged
more than once for the number of messages got.
I tried to set concatenation=true so that it is reassembled into one long
message by the recieving device but still it charges more.
Is there a way I can change anything in my conf to ensure a subscriber is
charged only once.

Regards
Peter
