Hi vloggerian. Thanks for the warm welcome. My name is Pinot. I may be the first vlogger from Indonesia joining this group. Please forgive me for my vlog language, since I'm not that good in English 'verbal language'. As I said to Jay, I hope my video medium can tell the story better and universally. I'm a video hobbyist since I was a kid. My first attraction with video was when my father made a documentation about total solar eclipe in Indonesia (1983). Though the betamax video itself is now fully-damage, I've transferred the video into miniDV and did a little restoration. It still viewable and worth a look. http://pinot-videoroom.blogspot.com/2006/08/gerhana-11-juni-1983.html YouTube link : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Es-WZLzjKTE Looking forward for knowledges and expriences with you guys. I met some Indonesian solar eclipse chasers 1 year ago in Egypt, I moblogged my entire eclipse-trip over a Textamerica.com mobile-blog: http://solareclipse.textamerica.com/?_ctgry=22896 It was taken at a camp in Sallum (Egypt/Libya border, landmines all over the place from WWII), where various international groups had eclipse sites. One of my goals in my eclipse-trip, is International Outreach: locals (my guide was Bedouin) foreign eclipse-chasers. I met eclipse-chasers from Slovakia, Germany, Italy, Japan. I have a very technical program, was supposed to be with the Science Group. (didn't happen because of intense security, due to Egypt president Mubarak observing there). But, I took this day to be more human interact with fellow eclipse-chasers. I spent some time with the Indonesian group, they were very well equipped with photographic equipment. Some Italians followed me to my site outside the compound (safety against land mines), next to a mausoleum: http://solareclipse.textamerica.com/?r=4511666 dropped off some breakfast. I slept overnight there under the stars. You can browse the above site, see the various nationalities I met. I met Russians at Abu Galloum (camel ride N. of Dahab) http://solareclipse.textamerica.com/?_ctgry=23124 Italians Americans (Giza Pyramids in Cairo) http://solareclipse.textamerica.com/?_ctgry=23121 Germans (Dahab). I really enjoyed the young kids I met, especially at Dahab: http://solareclipse.textamerica.com/?_ctgry=23123 [ I finally broke them down from their hawking souveneirs to tourists mode, we became friends. I bought them Kosherie, ate together http://solareclipse.textamerica.com/?r=4528623_ctgry=23123 I also went inter species, shared my breakfast with a cat..blogged that! ] I ended up at Dahab by accident, after the person sitting next to me on my Lufthansa flight (American girl, sociology major @UC Berkeley, Muslim convert w/Egyptian husband) recommended it to me. http://eclipsechaser.blogspot.com/2006/03/lufthansa-flight-584- frankfurt-to.html [ I ended up communicating with her another girl (N. California, exercise spa owner) over email up to eclipse-day, about eclipse observation sites. Internet Connectivity in action, I made friends along the way we were communicating in-transit in a 3rd world country! If this can happen in Egypt, the concept of One Planet, One Community has arrived ] The cultural experience was terrific, was able to blog it with Same- Day coverage. Uploaded content that evening from Internet spot. I've done it LIVE from Baja/Mexico, over the local phone services (international charges are expensive). I also text/picture/video-blogged using a Blogger blog: http://eclipsechaser.blogspot.com [ eclipse video hosted by Blip.tv ] You can see my entire trip ( other blogs) at: http://www.comet-track.com/eclipse/secl06/secl06.html I was amazed that during my entire Egypt trip (Cairo hotel, Marsa Matrouh, Sallum, Dahab/Red Sea), that there was Internet access everywhere. Whether it was: - small hotel in Cairo (free Internet, courtesy to guests) - condo in Marsa Matrouh (free dialup) - Bedouin home in Sallum (free dialup) - Internet Cafe in Sallum (sharing over a dialup connection!!?) - Internet Cafe in Dahab/Red Sea (high bandwidth) - Web geeks @Frankfurt Int'l airport http://solareclipse.textamerica.com/?_ctgry=23127 - Connexion satellite Internet on Lufthansa flight (LIVE blogging!) http://solareclipse.textamerica.com/?_ctgry=23126 I just now realized I should have had a presentation of the above made at last weekend's Pixelodeon. Mobile-Blogging Video-Blogging at March 29/06 Egypt Eclipse...massive Culture Science experience I should have had someone at least do it for me..NUTS!! [ I was out-of-town video-blogging a wacky offroad race: http://corracing.blogspot.com http://www.jumplive.com/07corrcv6/index.html ] I missed a chance to network with some luminaries @Pixelodeon..double NUTS!! This could have led to further projects. There's a solar eclipse next
